I was driving from Phoenix Arizona to Tucson Arizona, about 1: 45 min drive, October 23rd, 2021, and all of the sudden the check engine lights turns on, and its getting hot, and the engine shuts down, I lose all power to the Steering , and brakes, now, i am going about 45 in a 75 lane, but people going 80 plus. and we are about 20 miles from home. WE finally able to pull over and check it out. I added water and let it cool down for about 30 mins, We took the frontage road driving around 30-35 miles per hour.. the light was on still but not over heating, till we got to the house when we saw the temperature going up, we shut it down,,, The next day i drove to a Mechanic close to the house, they ran the tests, and was advise that the engine had water in the motor, due to the engine being defective, they did tell us, that they have seen these a lot, in the edge and Escape, coming to their shop, took it to another mechanic (Ford Certified) and told us the same thing, no Good and you need to replace the engine at a cost of $6000- up to $8000.00, it only has 94k on the engine. they are seeing this across the USA. Its very dangerous, because when going 75 plus and your calls stalls out and slows down fast and cars and trucks had to go around us, some fish tailed almost out of control, we could have caused a MAJOR Pile up had not the car started for us to get to the side . God was with us, please look into this, We have the car parked, because we cant afford a new enginge. and still m

Broken Flywheel. 5 year/60,000 miles Warranty ended by date 4 months prior to diagnosis. Car currently has 57,000 miles. Took to dealer for engine rattle diagnostics exam. Was told it was the flywheel. Ford Technician stated it’s a common mechanical problem for this kind of vehicle. Ford is refusing to cover the repair. No prior warnings or messages presented to driver before or while engine rattle occurred. Was told to trade in the car as the flywheel can damage the engine thus totaling the vehicle.

Flexplate and Torque Converter caused the car to shake and lose power. It was confirmed by Ford Dealership and repairs through Ford Dealership. There were no warning lights, just a rattling sound from motor. The flexplate was replaced once already before this incident when the car was under warranty at 60,000 miles. It was replaced again this time at 98,000 miles.

A check engine light came on, I called Ford, told them what it was and took the earliest appointment was over a week away which they said was fine since it was just the regular check light. I Five days before the appointment, I started my car (push button), it didn't start, so I took my foot off the brake, waited a minute, put my foot back on the brake and tried starting it again, the car started but smoke started pouring out of the back of the car and the engine died. I had it towed to Ford and they said that coolant got into the fourth cylinder which ruined the engine, requiring an entirely new engine ($7000) on a six year old car Safety was put at risk because if this happened while I was driving instead of parked this could have caused a serious accident. This is a common problem among this model of car (and some other, similar models from Ford).

Vehicle engine light came on and car made loud noise when started. Brought to dealership. 2 issues with car. Coolant leaked into the engine which could cause a fire. Needed a new engine. Flex plate was cracked which could cause the vehicle to stop moving abruptly causing a crash. Flexplate and parts needed to be replaced. Flexplate issue has been recalled in the 2017 Ford Edge. Issues on-line show that this is common in 2015-2018 Ford Edges.

My sunroof literally exploded while I was sitting in a parking lot. Nothing hit the car, I didn't have a collision or fender bender. Literally sitting in the lot I heard a loud 'explosion' and the crack just started at the back of the sunroof and worked its way to the front near my head. Totally random and unexpected and happened for no reason. I read that now the ceiling/roof is compromised and in a rollover I am not protected from the glass falling in on myself or my children.

Sitting in my car this morning and turn the rear defroster on and out of no where my back window explodes from the inside out. Nothing was touching it or fell on it. Alot of people have this same issue but Ford won't cover it. Luckily my daughter wasn't in her rear facing carseat or I'd be one super angry mom. seriously a safety hazard, what if we were driving down the road and it exploded causing us to swerve and cause serious injuries to ourselves or someone else, who'd be liable then.

Filed Sep 25, 2021PA

I purchased FOUR (size 245/60R18) Firestone Destination LE2 tires on May 2, 2019 from my Ford Dealer (Washington Ford) to replace original equipment tires that were wearing down. Mileage on the car at the time was 22047. The tires were rotated on November 22, 2019 (mileage on odometer was 27687 or 5600 miles since purchased), the tire were rotated next on November 11, 2020 (mileage on odometer was 34465 or 12,400 miles since tire purchased). Currently the odometer reads 42,365 and all 4 tires have 5/32" tread depth as measured by the Firestone Dealer on 9/23/2021. Essentially the tires have 20,000 miles on them and are wearing out prematurely for a tire with a 500 treadwear rating and a supposed 60,000 mile warranty. The car has noticeably less traction and has hydroplaned twice during rain events while travelling on the Interstate roads during the pas 14 days. The local Firestone dealer told me there was nothing they can do to pro-rate the mileage until the tires are worn down to 4/32 tread depth. The TIRES ARE UNSAFE NOW. During my tire inspection on 9/21/2021 the Firestone manager indicated that I may have to go through my Ford Dealer to replace the tires????!! An internet search reveals a majority of complaints relating to POOR TREAD WEAR for the Destination LE2 tires.

Engine. Engine started to leak coolant into #2 cylinder engine was miss firing and stalled. upon having inspection done by local mechanic per Ford's service bulletin was needing a long block replacement. If this unit was 1 year newer would have been under warranty. this stinks there is apparently a problem and I bought a used vehicle with a 60000 mile warranty and next year had a 100000 mile warranty. Ford knew something.

On 7/27/21 I was on vacation in southern VT. After shopping I started the car up to wait for friends & family to get back so we could return to where we were staying. After about 5 minutes I was about to pull onto the street when my car’s warning system activated that Coolant Is Over Temperature. The temperature gauge was all the way in the red zone. After shutting the car down for about 15 minutes the temperature came down & I drove the car to a nearby garage so they could assess. The next morning they reported smoke came out of tailpipes as well as coolant. The car was towed from there to Ford of Greenfield where they found coolant in the spark plugs. The engine needed to be replaced due to this serious defect. The safety issue is this situation could have been much worse had we been driving in an area where there were higher speeds and significant traffic. This crack in the engine has caused worse issues (I’ve heard of fire in some instances, luckily not this one).

For 2 months, now, when I fill my gas tank, the vehicle fails to start. After several attempts it chugs then fires up. 2 days ago it started to make a strange humming noise that would last about 5 seconds then stop about 3-4, then come back. Sometimes the hum lasted longer. Happened for a good 5 miles. Then, as I’m driving, the engine starts choking and the rpm gauge is bouncing. Then it sounded like it wanted to shut off so I immediately pulled over. I called a local Ford dealership. I took it there and the garage manager says it sounds like a fuel pump and scheduled me to come in this week for a diagnostic or code check. Didn’t say it wasn’t safe to drive.

I had a Ford dealer diagnose an illuminated dash warning stating “Adaptive Steering Fault” along with a steering wheel that was turned 90 degrees to the right while the vehicle was tracking straight ahead. During this time, the vehicle's steering would also exhibit momentary losses of power assist accompanied by clicking noises coming from the steering wheel. The dealer’s diagnosis returned a faulty steering wheel with complete steering wheel replacement being the remedy. This was quoted as as a $2,500 repair!! Through manufacturer goodwill, I would be on the hook for 50% of that which is still ~$1,250 on a vehicle with only ~36K miles! Further, I quickly discovered that this issue is well-known for my model to the point that Ford has issued service documents to address complaints (Customer Satisfaction Program 19B04 - Supplement #1 and TSB# 16-2066, 03 November 2016). Customer Satisfaction Program 19B04 - Supplement #1 even states “Service Action: Dealers are to replace the adaptive steering wheel assembly. This service must be performed on all affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner.” I negotiated with Ford customer service to have them cover a larger part of this exorbitant repair cost but to no avail. Should a customer not expect a vehicle’s steering wheel assembly to be manufactured in a way as to last the life of the vehicle? The symptoms of this failure, momentary losses of power assist, clicking noises, steering wheel off-centered, should be considered a s

As I was driving to work on i95N near Springfield, VA, the "coolant high temperature" warning light illuminated on my dashboard. as I was in rush hour traffic, I slowed down and moved right to diagnose the issue. i was able to exit the highway and immediately enter the lot of Sheehy Ford, Springfield VA. The dealer inspected my vehicle while I obtained a ride to work, then called me later to explain the issue. Their testing revealed error code P0301. the service advisor told me that Ford TSB 19-2346 "coolant intrusion into long block" was the issue and the recommended repair is to replace the engine. I called Ford customer service and was advised that there was no recall for this known problem and that my car was out of warranty (@70K miles). as such, Ford would not cover any of the repair expense. The Ford dealer has ordered a new engine and advised me that it will cost $7500 for parts and service. I can ask them to keep the engine for inspection, but I need to know soon. Safety was put at risk by an unforeseen issue without advance notice or warning that occurred in heavy traffic at high speed. In retrospect, I did notice excess exhaust from the vehicle prior to the incident and some difficulty starting, but there no other warning. This occurred less than 30 minutes prior to the warning light activation.

This vehicle has a design flaw within the engine. The engine and head gasket had a leak that caused the vehicle cylinder to fill with engine coolant, and caused the vehicle to unexpectedly misfire, overheat, and stall. I have also read accounts of other individuals vehicles catching fire. Thankfully this has not happened with my vehicle, however, it did stall out in the middle of the road during rush hour. As a result it was taken to FORD and they informed me that the entire engine would need to be replaced as a result of the failure.
