I have a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. There have been multiple instances recently where my car has stalled and lost power while on the road. There was a recall on it (U01) in 2018, for the powertrain control module because it was stalling and losing power. I completed the recall and did not experience issues again until the last month or so. I had taken my car in for service because it kept lurching forward when trying to accelerate from a stop. They did an update, and since then I have had multiple occasions when I lost power. I took it to the dealership after each instance and it has not been replicated, however they did see the error codes and tried to reset the vehicle. Last week they took the computer back to factory settings to try to fix it. This is a very dangerous situation since my car slows down and completely turns off in the middle of traffic. We are lucky we have not been hit by another car yet. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms prior to the power failure.

Check engine light appeared on my control panel of my 2017 Pacifica on 3/7/2022. I took my vehicle to Tires Plus to have it fixed. The code that the computer was giving was P000B. It was in the shop for 3 days, they checked and tested all sensors and finally determined that it was R/R CAM PHASER SYL and 0504778AD Timing Solenoid. New parts were installed on 3/12/2022 at $125. I returned on 3/17/2022 after the check engine light came back on, the technicians thought it was a issue with the reset of the check engine light. On 3/19/2022 I returned yet again for the check engine light. Tires Plus was unable to determine what the problem and recommended that I take it to the dealer. On 3/24/2022 I took my vehicle to the dealer for the same issue. They charged my $340 to reprogram and clean the cam shaft sensor. 3/28/2022 the check engine light is on yet again and have appointment to drop back off on Thursday 3/31/2022
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that the vehicle was leaking oil. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the oil filter housing was fractured and leaking. The oil filter needed to be replaced; however, the part was on back order and was not yet replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 57,000.
Around 35,000 miles - MIL light came on showing DTC P000D (Camshaft Position Slow Response Bank 2). Followed by rough up/down shifts, lack of power on acceleration, lack of downshifting as expecting, and rough idle at low speeds. Code self cleared and MIL disappeared. Engine oil checked and changed. Code came back/self cleared until vehicle was taken to dealer at 47,317 miles. Below service was performed - included checking the camshaft - sensors and replacing the PCM under warranty. Now at 52,000 miles and six months later - DTC P000D, rough shifts, lack of acceleration and rough idle have come back. Dealer does not have any availability until 4/23 - however an appointment has been made. DTC comes and clears. But rough shifts persist. 08-24-2021 -47,317 Scheduled Maintenance Vehicle Inspection(S) Check Battery Inspect Brake System Tires Good - Green Diagnostic System Test Cam Shaft Rental Sublet Lube/Oil/Filter Fuel System Service
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while reversing two days after purchasing the vehicle, the electronic shifter was placed into DRIVE however, the vehicle would not move. The warning message "Service Shifter" was illuminated. The contact continued to engage the electronic shifter until the vehicle responded. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred and the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the vehicle was purchased. The dealer then towed the vehicle to an authorized Chrysler dealer, where the vehicle was diagnosed with an electrical wiring failure. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken back to the dealer again to be repaired. The dealer repaired the vehicle; however, the failure reoccurred while driving. The contact stated while driving at 60 MPH on the highway, the vehicle suddenly stalled, almost causing other vehicles to crash into the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was purchased and then the vehicle was taken to a second Chrysler dealer; Frontier Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Fiat (5801 TX-327 Spur, Lubbock, TX 79424). The second Chrysler dealer diagnosed the failure as an electrical failure. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the second dealer who notified the manufacturer of the failure. The manufacturer advised the dealer to replace the battery. The battery
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while driving below 20 MPH, the engine revved and the vehicle jerked. The contact stated that he slammed on the brake pedal to prevent a collision. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on two separate occasions. The dealer informed the contact that they could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The contact stated that upon investigating, he determined that the failure was related to the transmission. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 34,000.
MY 2017 CHRYSLER PACIFICA STARTED LEAKING OIL AT 69000 MILES . I NOTIFIED CHRYSLER AND WAS TOLD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A CHRYSLER DEALER AND THEY WILL CHECK IT OUT , THEY DID, AND FOUND THE ENGINE OIL COOLER LEAKING OIL.THIS IS A VERY BIG SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE THE ENGINE CAN RUN OUT OF OIL AND SEIZE UP AN EXPRESSWAY DRIVING 65 MPH AND CAUSE DEATH OR OTHER SERIOUS INJURY. NO VEHICLE SHOULD EVERY LEAK OIL AT ONLY 69000 MILES, THIS IS A SAFETY DEFECT AND ALL 3.6 CHRYSLER ENGINE SHOULD BE RECALLED. I HAD TO PAY 969.00 TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS PROBLEM. SINCERELY, [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
When accelerating slowly from a dead stop, the transmission will sometimes hesitate/ pause to shift and then shift with a hard bang. Most often this happens while accelerating in the 10-20 mph range but will sometimes happen while in the 20-30 mph range. It only happens if accelerating very slow. Quicker acceralation-no problems.
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated the START/STOP feature failed to work properly. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled when the brake pedal was released. The driver had to restart the vehicle. The contact disabled the START/STOP feature. Additionally, while driving at night in the rain the vehicle overheated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The coolant was low, and coolant was added. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the check engine and coolant lights were illuminated. The battery was faulty, and the START/STOP feature was inoperable. A pressure test was performed however, the mechanic was unable to locate a coolant leak. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and diagnosed that the EGR cooler valve was cracked. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
Foam headrest became unglued and broke. I have 2 identical car seats this happened to one in Sept and now one in Dec. based on google search seems like it’s a common issue.
The steering wheel sticks when you’re straightening back out from going around a curve. It doesn’t happen all the time but when it does it will continue for several days or weeks and then stop. It has been a continuous thing for months.
A head gasket malfunction causes fumes to get into the coolant system and overheat the vehicle.
The transmissions in these vans have a serious problem. I have done research in the Pacifica forums and found many users are experiencing issues with the transmissions. My particular issues are: 1. Sometimes the vehicle jerks between lower gears especially when starting. The danger in this is when trying to go from a stop the vehicle will hesitate and then jerk extremely hard. It's startling and also dangerous when not expecting it. 2. At interstate speeds the transmission will not shift gears sometimes. This causes the van to slow down rapidly especially on hills. The dealership has looked at my particular van multiple times and they have "reprogrammed" the transmission multiple times but the problems still exist.
As I am driving the vehicle will jerk forward. It feels as if it has been rear ended but no such collision has accrued. It also does this when I am sitting at a red light, then when I begin to accelerate it acts as though it is going to stall.
Steering sticks when going around light curves, wheel must be forced back out of stuck position. I've been following this thread and it seems to be an ongoing, unresolved problem with this car. This started a while after we bought the car (certified pre-owned). It has not yet caused an accident. No warning lights. https://www.pacificaforums.com/threads/2017-steering-problems.48061/page-3 We did have a battery completely die and have to be replaced, I don't remember if the problem started before that or not.
Hard shift when down shifting at lower speed that causes intense jerk of vehicle.
When pulling into traffic from a stop the transmission seems to try and go into third gear then drops back into second gear. This happens randomly but the result is that the car stops for a few seconds after pulling into traffic. I have complained about this problem to the dealer from the time of purchase. They have done extensive work on the transmission. As the car has aged the problem has become progressively worse. The dealer is now telling me that Chrysler knows the transmission has a problem but it is not endangering the public. The problem is random but we have to be very careful when pulling into traffic because we never know when the car will hesitate and/or stop after pulling into traffic. The problem has occurred randomly since purchase. The date entered below is the date of the last occurance.
Vehicle hard shifts, and occasionally loses all driver power input while driving. The loss of power last occurred during a left-hand turn across traffic, when the car suddenly stopped accelerating through the intersection with oncoming traffic and coasted through, finally regaining power after crossing the street. Vehicle was taken to dealership, and dealer verified this is a known issue. Dealer stated there is an updated software package which addresses this issue, and it is not covered under my 100k mile CPO warranty.
Very hard shift of automatic transmission at slow speed from stop at about 15 MPH. Strong jerking motion poses dangerous pause in acceleration and control of ability to steer.
The steering wheel continues to get stuck/stick when turning curves. Happens whether I go right or left and at different speeds. This has been happening for over a year now.
Delayed engagement and hard shifting when driving in lore stopped. Especially noticeable when driving in there city, stop and go traffic.
Paint bubbling on the hood, possible corrosion. Could lead to further damage and lead to latch failure if it continues to spread.
When I was driving at local road around 20 miles per hour, the engine suddenly shut down. My car was stopped in the middle of road. I had to shift the gear to park and restart the engine and go. This has been happened three times in the past two months.
Brake booster issue. Makes a hissing sound when braking and almost to the point where i will hit the car in front of me. At a stop light the brake pedal will rise and car will move forward although im pushing down.
The vehicle will hard shift after a stop at a stop sign/stop light. Once you have started going, it's like the transmission is playing catch up and not responding to the gas pedal being pushed and the rpms going up, and once it catches up, the vehicle jerks forward as the transmission catches in the gear and it feels like you're being rear ended in a pretty hard accident.
THIS IS THE 2ND TIME I HAVE REPORTED A COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS NOISE ISSUE. FIRST ISSUE 10/2020. THERE IS A LOUD BUZZ WHEN UNLOCKING THE VAN DOORS. VAN CAN BE ON OR OFF. ALSO MAKES THE NOISE WHEN EXITING THE VAN. IT'S AN INTERMITTENT THING THAT GOES AWAY, LIKE AFTER REPORTING IT AROUND NOV 2020. NOISE BEGAN AGAIN AUG 2021. ANNOYING AND EMBARASSING AS IT CAN BE HEARD FROM OUTSIDE TOO.
On July 26 when starting the car the entire dash lit up and all possible dash lights began to flash, the RPMs would go up and down, speedometer would move up and down. It literally looked possessed. Turned the car off. Later that day went to start the car again (to bring it in if possible) and the car started fine. Started driving towards the dealership. At 30mph the car began to accelerate on its own. Thankfully no cars in front as I slammed the breaks and pulled over. The dash lights again went haywire. Pulled over and shut car off. Turned back on and drove the mile home (13 miles to dealership). Next day we again brought it into the dealership and the car made it. They were unable to duplicate and stated there were 100's of codes and they don't know where to begin. The dealership sent me home. Almost a month later exactly the vehicle went crazy. This time I grabbed my cell phone and recorded it. Turned the car off and had it towed to the dealership. It did not do it again. They have had it now going on over two weeks and are unable to duplicate the issue. Again, they stated there are 100s of codes and don't know where to start. The car is not safe for driving. Once the dash goes crazy all control is lost. We have an extended warranty. We love the features of the car, but with five kids we do not feel safe driving it on the highway until they look into this. I have read at least two others with similar issues, but the dealership says they only work with Chrysler Engineering
We were about to turn left onto a busy highway. Pulled into traffic and vehicle stalled with 2 adults and 4 children in the car. While stuck in the middle of the high way with oncoming traffic from both sides we started honking the horn and waving traffic to stop. Husband noticed a blinking “D” light on the shifter knob and an alert on the dash that read something like “shift to park”. Due to the incline of the road we rolled backwards off the highway. We luckily were not hit by oncoming traffic but completely terrified by the situation. Had that highway been as busy as it usually is we would be dead. Shifted back to park. Was then able to drive vehicle the half mile home. Brought vehicle into dealership where after 2 weeks they were unable to to recreate issue and found nothing wrong. Stalling with no prior warning is a known recall for this vehicle but the recall was supposedly fixed on January 11th of 2018. This did not fix the stalling issue obviously. We refuse to drive vehicle again and take the chance of killing our family. After many conversations with Chrysler care we are 3 weeks out from incident and they have been of no help. This vehicle is not safe to be driven. After reading many forums there are many complaints of this recall not fixing the issue. Chrysler needs to be held accountable. I refuse to be a test dummy for this vehicle.
1.What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The power steering wheel and YES 2.How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I have to drive with alert the whole time because I will not know when the steering wheel will stop working and if it stop working while taking corner or I have to turn the wheel very fast I wont be able to do so.which might cause an accident to me or hit other people. 3.Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? we took it to one place but they wont be able to identify it because it happens randomly. and we drop it at the dealership to check it but it has been 2 days since I dropped off but they did not do the inspection yet. 4.Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No 5.Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? The power steering wheel warning light will come up randomly while driving slow, fast or start and stay at the same place but it will not show up right away when you first start. It first appear around a month ago.
Stop and start function car shut down in traffic you have to place car in park and restart also stop and start function not available .
While traveling on a dry highway, with good tires/new tires, and decelerating from 45 mph and approaching a red light, and a moderate, but firm pressure on the brake to bring the van to a full stop, the speed decreased to 15 mph, with the tachometer stable at 800 rpm and then to 10 mph, with both hands on the wheel, left foot on the dead pedal, and right foot on the middle of the brake pedal. As the speedometer made the transition at 10 MPH, the tachometer surged to 1500 RPM and then to 3000 in under 3 seconds, which cause me to initiate an emergency action drill of stabbing the brake pedal hard three times and rotating the transmission control to the lowest gear. The transmission refused to shift lower, and the control of the vehicle turned on oa wrestling match and the tachometer surged from 1500 RPM, them 3000 RPM, then 4500 RPM, and then 6000 RPM, each time the vehicle acting like it was repeatedly being rear-ended at a speed exceeding 15 MPH. The engine could not be disengaged and aceelaretd uncontrollably to over 40 MPH, through a busy intersection, and required over 24 hard break stages over a 10 second period to actually stop the car, and the engine refused to disengage until stopped. Once the car was restarted it immediately surged forward trying to fight through the hard applied brakes. The cruise control was never on the entire time. I then stut down the engine once I was able to wretle it to a stop with the engine climbing to over 4500 RPM. I then took this vehicl
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start after several attempts with the STOP/START unavailable message displayed on the instrument panel. The contact replaced the battery however, the failure returned soon after each battery replacement. The contact also stated that the vehicle independently accelerated while driving at various speeds. The contact stated that the vehicle also stalled while depressing the accelerator pedal. The service shifter and service electronic stability system warning lights were illuminated on the instrument panel. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle would not accelerate above 25 MPH while driving. The contact was forced to use the hazard lights and slowly drove the vehicle back to her residence. The contact called the local dealer and was informed that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V348000 (Electrical System) and 18V395000 (Electrical System, Equipment). The manufacturer was also notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
I bought my 2017 Chrysler Pacifica in 2018, and it would randomly jump gears while accelerating or stay in a higher gear. The dealership could not duplicate the problem for months. In May 2019, it threw a check engine light code of P0732. This was then repaired at a Chrysler dealer. It started doing that same thing again in January 2021. In September 2021, it threw the same check engine light code of P0732.
I have twin boys, I let them out of their car seats after returning from daycare. I took bags in my house and returned to find my door off the upper track and hanging from the lower attachment causing much stress to the bracket and and scratching my exterior paint. From the door opening and closing so many time off the track. This occurred after my son said he hit that button on the door a few times. This door could of easily fallen off or hurt one of my sons. Very scary! Also I found numerous other Pacifica forums that say the side windows have broken on there vehicles after this same type of event has happened. I am very concerned, this is my daily driver for all 3 of my sons who are all under 4yrs old. This heavy door could of caused serious damage to one of my sons. Please help me resolve this problem. Also now I have scratches on my paint from the door going back a forth which is visible from the outside.
The rear passenger door opens on its own. Several times I have returned to my car and found the rear door opened. After researching it, this is a know problem by Chrysler and they never recalled the vehicle. Thanks god i did not have my car or any valuables stolen. The link to the forum where hundreds of folks have mentioned this is at https://www.chryslerforum.com/forum/chrysler-voyager-town-country-21/passenger-power-door-opens-while-parked-22516/
1) Steering - when driving, the steering wheel almost feels “stuck” when turning and going at least 40mph. It feels like it has to be “jerked” back to straighten it out causing concern for over correction. Took to Chrysler dealership and was told they could find nothing wrong but did an update on my power steering. Seems to be happening more often. 2. Power train - while taking off from a stopped position or driving slowly (ie: parking lot) the vehicle shifts so hard it feels like you’ve been rear ended. Again Chrysler dealership could find nothing wrong but this also happens frequently.
VEHICLE MOTOR OR TRANSMISSION LURCHES AND STALLS, WON'T STAY IN GEAR, STOPS FOR NO REASON IN TRAFFIC, SLAMS INTO GEAR. BUT WON'T ACCELERATE. ARRIGO CHRYLSER DEALERSHIP IN FORT PIERCE FLORIDA STATED THEY REPAIRED ISSUE WITH COMPUTER RESET OR REPROGRAMMING BUT DID NOT RESOLVE. CONTINUES TO STALL AND LURCH AND LOSE POWER.
The start/stop feature says to service the system and it effects how the vehicle drives. There’s no pick up and the RPMs are messed up. I have had it to the dealership 5 times and they’ve fixed a few things but the problem persists.
This car was bought used in 2020. It had less than 15000 miles on it at that time and was still under original warrantee. I took it to a Chrysler dealership for some minor repairs which they resolved. I informed them that there was a rapid acceleration issue which they couldn't resolve. For the last year it has continued. It only happens at low speeds an is definitely not a pedal issue I recently happened while pulling into a handicap spot and I hit a pole. It was fortunate that it wasn't a crosswalk or some on could have been seriously injured.
The wiring harness on the sliding doors allow the wiring to become frayed and makes the door not close properly. See YouTube videos on this model car door malfunctioning. When attempting to close the door, the door closes and then reopens until you repeatedly close it.
While driving vehicle with cruise control set to 55 vehicle stallings, losing power steering, and loses all driver-assist features, to include traction control, blind spot monitoring, power steering, forward collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control, airbags, and other systems. Send back to dealership three times to two different dealerships and for same
My wife said that she was pulling into a parking spot and did not have her foot on the accelerator as she coasted into the spot. The car accelerated by itself she had to step hard on the brake to get it to stop before she hit another car. It was not a problem with a floor mat since they are snapped into place and do not come close to the pedals. I do see that similar problems have been reported on this type of vehicle with no satisfaction received. This incident is the 2nd time it has happened according to my wife. She does most of the driving around town.
Lane assist and Forward Collision Warning would intermittently turn off along with the passenger window automatically going down. Vehicle would also seems to glitch and restart at the same time. After this taking place for a couple of weeks, now the vehicle has twice completely shut off while driving. The engine, screens, dash, etc. all turned off and the it was automatically put into PARK. Vehicle will restart and everything seems back to normal once it is restarted.
We smelled gas on the passenger side and noticed there wasn't a ton of power being given to the engine. Once we got to our destination the gas smell was stronger. We arrived back at our house and the gas smell was really bad at this point and noticed there was gas coming over the headlights. We popped the hood and there was gas everywhere. We got very lucky and the van did not catch on fire. The fuel supply tube (68210442AA) was shooting gas out from a hole in it and it would land a good 20-ft outside the vehicle. This could have killed myself and my family. We went to find the part and come to find out chrysler "redesigned" the part but there is no recall on this part yet.
1st time on highway kept pulling to right on my oil change told dealer. He said he couldnt find anything and no warning light came on. 7/2020 I believed it was a safety issue to have no control and car was pulling and locking Havent traveled to far with pandemic. Went away for awhile upstate and driving home it worse so bad just driving and changing lanes it locked up and was hard to get it back in my control to turn to right it just shaked shimmed. i was really scared not to be able to drive my car smoothly. no inspection just the dealer the first time no warning or light came on
Everytime I accelerate the car is slow to pick up speed and jumps and jerks like the transmission can't shift gears. It has also stalled out in the middle of intersection as if it couldn't get into gear. Took to dealer reset transmission but it still isn't right. Taking to another dealer this seems to be a problem with several owners the car only has 32k and I bought a year ago never had this much issue with past cars
I tried to start my Chrysler Pacifica in the morning. The car would not start, and all of the vehicle's dashboard warning lights came on at different times when i pressed the On/Off ignition button. There was no clear, or coherent error message being displayed about what was wrong with the vehicle. Every warning light came on and off. The vehicle's computer module appeared to have malfunctioned. I was finally able to start the car, and brought it to the dealer for checking. The dealer informed me it was simply a low battery problem, but could not explain to me why all of the warning lights on the dashboard and console came on and off. Nothing in the owner's manual explained this sort of issue. I feel very unsafe with this vehicle, as the computer can display warning messages randomly, and disable the vehicle.
This is my 3rd problem to be reported to NHTSA on this 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The "L" gear should typically slow down the vehicle when engaged, especially going downhill, so that you can use the transmission to slow the car down and use less braking. On a recent trip on I-5 the Grapevine, i used the L gear to attempt to slow down the vehicle on a steep and long descent. Instead of slowing the vehicle down immediately upon switching to L, the vehicle actually sped up 10 to 15 mph initially before it starts to slow down the car, creating a very dangerous situation especially when vehicles in front of me were slowing down too on the descent. I took it to the dealer, and they actually replaced the TCM because of another dangerous problem (see Complaint 11405469, March 2021) with the vehicle. I have tried the "L" gear again after, and it still does the same thing. The dealer says they cannot replicate the problem because there is no downhill where they can test for this problem.
The rear lift gate locking mechanism failed while driving causing the lift gate to open in traffic. There is no manual lock or release for the lift gate.
Power steering failure while driving. I have to pull over which is very hard, turn off/on car until power steering engages. I have owned the vehicle for 14 months and it has happened about 8 times over that period. Other Chrysler Pacifica's have power steering recalls, but my model does not.
Reading these
NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
