I'm writing to report a serious incident involving my Chrysler Pacifica with less than 70,000 miles. Recently, the engine light came on with error code P0303, leading to violent vibrations and power loss while I was driving my children to school. This hazardous situation nearly caused a major accident. A diagnostic at the dealer revealed a blown head gasket, raising concerns about the safety and reliability of this vehicle model. I believe this issue might not be isolated and could pose a widespread danger. I'm reporting this incident to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to request an investigation into potential design or manufacturing flaws that could endanger drivers and passengers. Safety must always be the top priority. Therefore, I am taking the initiative to report this incident to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) because I believe that it is imperative to investigate the extent of this issue. It is my hope that through such an investigation, we can uncover any potential design or manufacturing flaws that could pose a significant danger to the driving public. Safety should always be the paramount concern when it comes to automobiles, and it is my fervent hope that by reporting this incident, we can prevent similar incidents from occurring and ensure the safety of all drivers and their passengers. I urge you to take this matter seriously and to conduct a thorough examination of the Chrysler Pacifica to determine whether

Continue issue with stop/start system failure that drains batteries to the point of total power loss, even at high rate of speed. An audible ticking sound, engine misfires resulting in bucking and surging, decreased engine performance, hesitation, loss of power. Start/stop system has been investigated by dealership multiple times. Power loss and engine misfire were reported as the result of the start/stop system failure. However it has been a reoccurring problem with continued worsening symptoms. The safety of myself, my passengers and other travelers is at risk due to the unexpected bucking, surging, hesitation and power loss that occurs during traveling. Problem has not been reproduced at service center as it has been “solved” by replacing batteries and not investing further. Vehicle has been inspected by qualified mechanics. Warning lamps have recently alerted but the problem of engine bucking, power loss, surging, hesitancy have preceded the warning lamp. It has been at least 8 months of engine concerns and 2 years of power concerns that were reported to dealership and only 1 month of the warning light indicating a problem.

The check engine light came on, upon inspection at our mechanic we discovered our head gasket was blown. Searching for recalls online I found several other owners of Chrystler Pacifica that have the same issue of blown head gasket at relatively low mileage. Contacted Chrystler and there is no current recall for any of those components.

Computer Code P258B - Electric Vacuum Pump - After fixing code P000B with an oil change, the P258B code caused the check engine light to come back on and after further investigation found that the wire that comes from the pump looks like it has started melting. The external wiring casing is no longer covering the wires and the piece plugged into the pump looks like its splitting. I finally found the part through the Mopar site but is referred to as an Air Pump: Product ID: 68274999AD. Luckily the car has not stalled or caught on fire. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance reps, or others. I plan on ordering the part to install myself as personal funds don't allow me the luxury of taking to the dealer to have this done. I will keep the part if the manufacturer wants it to inspect.

I have a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica that keeps dying. I bought my Pacifica new from the dealer and now it has 100K on it. Since we bought it, I has a tendence to dye on us from time to time. The past 5 years we have owed it, we have been through 4 batteries. This past week, my Pacifica decided not to start. The battery was only 8 months old. We had it towed to the dealer, where they said there was a problem with the sensors in the shift knob that goes into the transmission. The mechanic said, he has see a few of the same problems with 2017-2022 Pacifica's. The dealer said I would have to take it to a transmission place to have the transmission looked at. Sees like many Pacifica have this problem with the shift knob sensors.

The engine was having misfire on cylinder 5. This turned out to be a head gasket leak, the local Chrysler dealer confirmed the diagnosis and proceeded to replace the entire engine head. If this was not abruptly fixed, then the engine would overheat and lockup mid drive. There have been many other similar reports on this site indicating the same problem on either cylinder 3 or cylinder 5 -- these sit in the back of the engine bay (transverse engine) and get the hottest. There seems to be a general defect in the cooling causing very premature head gasket failure which can be a dangerous situation if not handled extremely promptly

Engine temperature suddenly rose to the point where an alarm appeared on the display (no prior warning or prior instance of this). Allowed temperature to cool, drove vehicle home gently. Subsequent examination showed coolant level in reservoir below minimum with no physical evidence of leakage. Obtained correct manufacturer-specified coolant, topped up and continued to monitor. Pattern developed where the coolant level would be at minimum after approximately 200 miles of driving, vehicle appeared to be operating normally otherwise. Continued to top up coolant level as necessary, still no sign of any physical leak. Vehicle then began to produce error codes for misfire on either Cylinder 1 or Cylinder 3 - no discernible “pattern” to the codes appearing or clearing. Vehicle was subsequently examined by an independent repair facility who determined that the cylinder head for cylinders 1, 3 and 5 is warped.

The van stopped while driving without warning in traffic, luckily I was able to coast to the side of the road and there was not a vehicle directly behind me or my family and myself would have been in an accident. Even now it does not have a check engine light on we had the battery checked and alternator and they are both good. I’m not sure what else would cause the vehicle to stop while driving with out warning. It completely turns off just suddenly without any warning. This is dangerous and could cause an accident. We are having it towed to the dealership today to hopefully repair whatever caused the dangerous shut off. I will revisit and if able upload whatever I am told the problem is.

The vehicle sometimes abruptly shuts off when it is stopped while running such as at a traffic light. It also abruptly shuts off when at a low speeds (0-5 mph). This occurs after the car has been operating for several minutes. This presents a safety hazard because the unexpected shut off can occur when the car in a precarious traffic situation. A quick message flashes on the display before the shut off. Usually too quick to read but seems to say something like, “service electronics”. Occurs at at least once a week. Car is driven 7 to 10 times per week so this incident occurs at least once out of every 10 trips. These incidents have been occurring for at least 2 months.

I have 2017 Pacifica with just under 80,000 miles on it. I had a check engine light come on which was a 5th cylinder misfire. I had the plugs/coils replaced and oil/filter done. After 2 days the service engine light reappeared with the same diagnosis(5th cylinder misfire). I took it back to the shop and they discovered coolant leaking and the smell of it burning. They believe it was a blown head gasket. The car is now at a Chrysler dealership to confirm the bad news. Chrysler needs to step up and resolve this issue with a recall or some type of reimbursement.

P0420, P0303 and P0203. I checked online for the meaning. I saw that everyone with the same car had the same issue. And before this issue I been noticing low coolant so I always top up the coolant. I noticed everyone say is the head gasket that went bad. Base on all the information and the complaints people made regarding this code i don't need to take it to a dealership for diagnostic, I am sure it is the engine head gasket that's bad.

Transmission has been problematic for the past two years. We have had it checked twice but nothing can be found during the inspection. It shifts very roughly by jolting you forward when you are accelerating from a slow speed or at times when you are coasting as well with no foot on gas or break. You feel jolted as if you were rear ended by another vehicle. I was driving with my family, to include 3 young kids, on interstate I95 on 8/19/23 when the vehicle suddenly jolted 3 times and then the check engine light came on. I was not able to pull over right away, and when I tried to press the gas the engine revved high but the vehicle barely moved. After putting my hazard lights on I was eventually able to pull over and turn the engine off. After a few minutes I restarted the car, the check engine light was on. I got off the next exit and had a mechanic take a look and the P0732 code “Gear 2 Incorrect Ratio.” showed. The interstate is highly traveled and we were in very real danger. I was scared for my family's life, as well as those around us because we had NO CONTROL over how the vehicle was behaving and could not accelerate to a proper highway speed. The vehicle has now been towed to a local transmission shop. Other Pacifica's have been recalled with this error code, there is even a TSB # 21-008-21 from Mopar regarding this exact issue dated 3/12/21. Their lack of action put my family's lives at risk as we could have been hit by a tractor trailer on the 70 mph highway due to th

While driving on the highway, our car started to make a jerk, like it was having trouble shifting gears, which is weird because we were driving through Kansas and the road was smooth and flat. Then suddenly the car lost power, but did not turn off. Pressing the accelerator did nothing. We turned on the emergency flashers and pulled over to the shoulder, shifted into park and then turned the car off. We waited a few moments then restarted, everything appeared fine. We started to accelerate and merge back into the highway when it started to happen again. This time, our dash reported a message of "shift into p to start." We again pulled over, waited even longer, and restarted again. After about 5 miles, it did it again. After several occurrences of this, we eventually looked to have it towed to the nearest dealership. However, now it also has trouble starting. This is incredibly concerning, losing power going 75mph.

The engine has cut off 3 other times stopped at red lights, but those times, the lights stayed on. I was able to immediately turn the engine back on. I was coming home from work and I was waiting to make a left turn onto a road named Vincent Rd in Orlando, FL which meant that I had to cross 3 lanes of highway. Once all traffic was clear I started crossing 3 lanes of highway and the van started making a loud grinding sound when pressing on the gas. The vehicle moved forward into the first lane of traffic and would not go anywhere from that point. I was stuck on the highway now with oncoming traffic and idiots would not stop. Of course the cars that were in the lane that I was in had no choice but the other two lanes were not stopping until somebody offered to push me across the other lanes to a parking lot. All I can say is God Bless my mailman as he is the one that actually pushed me across the highway. In my opinion, I feel that this could have been more serious. I had to have the vehicle towed to Greenway Chrysler where it was determined an axled failure on the left front wheel. Bottom line is that this situation could have been really bad but thankfully it was not. I know there have been issues with the 2017 Pacifica's over time and I believe axle failure is one of the major issues.
