Engine misfire, spark plug issue, blown head gasket
After smelling a burning smell when driving, an independent service center diagnosed that the engine oil cooler had failed causing the engine oil and antifreeze coolant levels to drop low enough that continued driving could seize the engine. The sparkplugs were damaged and a head gasket could be required as well. If not for the burning smell, the van could have stopped suddenly in busy traffic on the highway with my kids inside. The vehicle can be inspected anytime. I have not yet contacted the manufacturer. No warning lights went on. The only indication was a burning smell that I first thought was the new rear brakes I had installed.
This car has a blown head gasket at 123,000 miles. It seems this is a VERY common problem with this car and something that is clearly a factory defect. I have heard of this problem with many of these cars and a lot of them occur at less than 100,000 miles.
I am experiencing an issue where the air conditioner blows hot air intermittently and now just blowing hot air. It seems to be a known issue with the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica but there doesn’t seem to be a recall for my van. I also noticed that there seems to be an issue with the coolant leaking which after some google searching also seems to be a known issue. Please advise.
Engine loose power because coolant is entering the cylinders due to a defective head gasket. Failed at 110,000 miles . Need engine replacement $6000 for a used engine
The auto opening passenger side door was only opening half way and stopping. Aware that there might be a component that prevented proper function we stopped the door by using electric eye and opened the door manually. This worked fine. We were traveling when this issue started. When we returned home I was unloading the van. It opened half way and started to close. I stood in the door to get it to stop closing. When it stopped I took the handle so I could close the Door this action triggered the motor. The door finished opening and fell off. I caught it. I was by myself and had no children with me. I had groceries near by that I used to prop the door. I was then able to assess the situation. There are two small rollers that run under the back window. They are hooked to a hing that folds and unfolds when door opens and closes. When the door malfunctioned the door fell out of the back window track and fell toward me. I am a strong adult and was able to catch the door. It twisted off the bottom too. After trying to get the door back on the body of the car I gave up and called an auto body shop. They were unable to come out at that time the temp was -8 degrees. I looked at the working door on the drivers side. I was able to get the rollers back in the track enough to get the car into the shed. I packed the door with towels and rugs to keep it on the car. The next day the auto body shop staff came out. It took two men to get the rollers back into the track. If they would not have b
The vehicle was diagnosed with a short in the electrical steering cable. It started off with just a minor glitch when steering which caused the car to simply caused the car to shift into neutral but was quickly resolved by shifting the gear into park and then into drive. This resulted in a really major glitching in system while steering to where the car was shifted into neutral in the middle of driving and will not turn off the van or allow you to shift the vehicle into park. It also caused the windshield wipers to stay on without the ability to turn them off as well. This is an extremely dangerous issue for a commonly used family vehicle especially one travels the highway everyday. I’m just grateful we’re in our neighborhood going at a low speed with little to no cars traveling. On the highway this could have caused serious vehicular damage due to accidents and injury or fatalities for the person who has to push the car out of the road and the family riding in the car from impact. This Negligence of the manufacturer will cost my family $4521, which is just simply unfair. Im requesting thorough investigation on this matter with the a recall on all vehicles who can possibly have this issue as well.
From the date of purchase, the check engine light came on and was told it was a software/computer issue. 3 months into having the car it stalled on the freeway. ABS light came on, and engine repair, and several other lights. I was told it was the two batteries, the AUX and the car battery. Replaced both at the dealer. A year and a half later, the car stalled again pulling out of my garage. A-light with circle and exclamation point came on. Turned car off and the A light turned off. Now engine light comes on and off whenever. Had it looked at and it is showing a repair for fuel line kit, which was repaired last year and mechanic said it does not need to be repaired, another software/computer error. Engine light will stay on for a day and turn off for a week, then turn back on again. Car has been serviced so many times at the cost of $200 per visit to the dealer. I am afraid it will stall on me again and the issue is not repaired and falls under the recall for 2017 models that were stalling.
The vehicle first malfunctioned 09/2022. All the signals on the dashboard came on including the wipers. Then the vehicle wouldn’t accelerate and stopped while driving in the middle of the road. I got it towed to a Chrysler dealership and they had it for 4 four months and couldn’t maintain power within the van. After 4 fours I received the van back and it was driving good. Recently, while out of town on 12/16/2023 the van began to run hot for the first time and I parked it. The next day it wouldn’t start and I got it towed to a nearby shop on 12/18/23 and I was told it was my starter. I replaced the starter and the shop said it was something with my engine due to white smoke coming out the exhaust pipes. I got it towed again to a nearby Chrysler dealership on 12/19/23 and they confirmed after doing the diagnostic, the service shop said I needed a new engine because the coolant leaked into the cylinder heads blowing the gaskets. I asked what caused this issue and they stated overheating. The vehicle has never shown signs of overheating such as smoking or the gauges going up until that night which was a brief 5 minutes because I parked the van. I have researched and seen multiple cases like mine in both circumstances with this same kind of vehicle and not1 recall has been placed. I maintenance the vehicle as required and believe this is a manufacturing issue.
Noticed a wet spot on my driveway under my car that was not going away, the first mechanic that looked at it could not find the problem and initially thought it might have been condensation. A few weeks late the spot was becoming much larger and check engine light came on and the code indicated that there was an issue with the oil pressure. Upon taking it to be looked at by another mechanic it was found to be an issue with the oil filter housing resulting in a substantial oil leak. An oil leak can be dangerous both due to the slippery nature and the fire risk it presents, in addition it can cause further issues with the engine.
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while accelerating from a stop sign the vehicle downshifted and idled abnormally high. The check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with a second gear ratio failure, and the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 103,000.
2017 Chrysler pacifica has had multiple major engine failures. First was 2021 head gasket failure which lead to a new engine. Now 2023 the exact same thing has happened again. Engine temperature warning light came on got car towed. Head gasket failure again. This van is unsafe engine design is horribly flawed leading to multiple engine failures
When going to accelerate, the car will not shift into gear. It g Jerks and it takes a few seconds to physically move foward. There are times when turning onto a road or highway it will not accelerate as it should.
Head gasket and Rear valve cover gasket replaced. Still smelling burning oil. Started with check engine light for misfire on cylinder 5. 75K miles on vehicle. There is a rough idle and loss of power at interstate speeds.
There was a flashing check engine light and shaking engine. Found out there was a misfire at cylinder 5. Dealership found coolant inside the cylinder.
Head Gasket has failed on the engine which resulted in radiator blowing out in the middle of traffic stranding my wife and four kids on the side of the road for hours. Seems to be a common issue with the Chrysler 3.6 engine in 2017 models and possibly 2018 models.
Blown engine gasket
Head gasket failed, causing the engine to overheat and damage to occur. Luckily, my wife was able to move safely off of the roadway. The vehicle was taken to LaFontaine CDJR in Walled Lake, Michigan, for repair. They confirmed that it was indeed a head gasket failure and the repair total would be around $6000. Research shows that this is a frequent problem with these vehicles, with numerous reports online.
Check Engine light came on in October 2023. Code indicated misfire cylinder #5. Dealer could not reproduce problem in shop. Returned vehicle with instructions to drive until check engine light came back on. 800 miles later light came back on. Dealer reported code was misfire cylinder #5 again on Nov. 22, 2023. Also found coolant in cylinder indicating blown head gasket. Recommended repair was engine replacement as Chrysler did not recommend head gasket repair. Cost $11,500. Engine has 56,000 miles on it. Power train warranty was 5 years/60,000 miles, so just out of warranty for time but not mileage. Problem could result in total engine failure while driving, putting driver and passengers at risk of injury or worse. Problem was confirmed by dealer on November 22, 2023 and vehicle is currently at dealer service center awaiting repair decision. My research shows that there have been many reported failures of this vehicles' engines with the identical symptoms and repair recommendations. Many Owners who opted for head gasket repair often ended up having to have engines replaced anyway. My vehicle has been dealer-maintained on schedule since I purchased it, as I had an oil change and basic maintenance contract on it that expired September 2023. It gave no indication of any problems before the initial check engine light in October. Never overheated or any other warnings that it had a failing engine. A properly maintained engine should not fail at 56,000 miles.
Electrical problems since purchase (new). Warranty repairs by 2 dealers. The rear lift warning buzzer went out causing me to be hit in the head and getting black eye. The buzzer is out again, but not repaired as the part has been on back order for months. Dealer said over 100 of the same part by various dealers on the back order. This is a major problem as car purchased for use with my dogs and w/o buzzer they also are not warned when ‘door’ coming down. For the part to not be available for so long is unacceptable and since covered under paid warranty I think Chrysler is neglecting the warranty owners. Also, since the part has failed before, they are aware it’s a faulty part but have not done anything to keep the part stocked,
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle started to sway from left to right, and a message displayed reading "Stability Control System Fault". No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the rear passenger’s side cradle was fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000.
Van keeps shutting off while stopped at stop light and stop signs.
Our driver side sliding door can only be opened with the fob and overhead button located in the front of the vehicle. If the driver becomes unconscious or the vehicle is on fire the back passengers have no way to get out of the van. It cannot be manually opened from the outside or the inside. It is a very serious safety issue!!
While driving 70 mph on freeway passing a semi the engine shut off. Had steering and braking but no power. Managed to pull over without getting hit. Dash message "put in park, press brake and press start. Major panic attack as we were 200 miles from major town in the desert. Started car drove about 5 miles and it did it again. Dealer claims to never heard of that problem. Since getting home I've not taken vehicle on freeway. Utterly terrifying.
While driving down the highway the steering wheel locked up while making a slight turn on the highway.
It got a check engine light for a cylinder 3 miss fire. It has been found to be caused by a faulty head and gasket by Jamie’s Auto Service in Noblesville IN. This issue is also on many forums with tons of people suffering from this.
Engine overheating, leaking coolant, Engine 3 misfire, apparently it is a common issue. I have two children I drive around every day and almost had an accident when my engine started overheating. Cost of repairs outweighs current value. Check engine light is constantly on because of this. Car shaking when starting up, etc. This is too common of an issue for it not to be recalled at this point. I have had this vehicle less than 1.5 years and I've already replaced the compressor, the spark plugs, cleaned the fuel injector and body, and have had a mechanic run diagnostics on it multiple times.
Hey everyone! I hope you're all doing well. I wanted to share an issue I've been facing with my 2017 Chrysler Pacifica, which I bought brand new back in 2017. Unfortunately, I'm currently experiencing a lack of heat while driving, and it turns out that the engine head gasket is blown and leaking coolant. It's quite disappointing to learn that this seems to be a common problem, with an ongoing lawsuit related to it.
Transmission appears to not know what gear to go into, or misses a gear shift altogether. Creating a period of higher rpms with no power to the wheels. This is a safety concern as it has happened when pulling out into travel lanes.
Like many other Pacifica owners, my LED light on the passenger side flickers repeatedly when the vehicle is first started and then turns off.
Engine code for misfire fixed and still has a shake, looking like head gasket. Transmission jerks upon shifting.
Had engine issues a few years back around 87,000 and was fixed at Chrysler in Sarasota FL. Rods and other engine parts had to be replaced and engine was running hot. On 11/4/23 our vehicle is again experiencing the same engine issue at 105,000 miles. From what I have read on threads many costumers have expressed similar issues. I have an appointment on 11/7/23 with the local dealership in Knoxville.
I received a P0303 engine misfire code. I have noticed a very slow coolant leak. Thankfully I noticed the leak before the coolant ran out or else the car could have overheated and left me in a very dangerous situation. My mechanic ran a test and confirmed that there is a blown head gasket. My vehicle has ~85,000 miles and from what I have read that is very few miles to be having a head gasket fail.
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact was driving approximately 60 MPH, when the check engine warning light illuminated and the temperature gauge indicated that the engine was overheating. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that coolant had leaked into the 3rd cylinder. The engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.
I have a 2017 pacifica with 40,230 miles on it and has a blown head gasket .called chysler customer support to file claim on 10/12/23 .van is at dealership for a week now waiting to hear from chrysler
Sharp jolting of the vehicle when going from second to third gear constantly
1. When making turns to the right, the steering wheel sticks and requires a strong tug to the left to free it. Has happened on at least five separate occasions. Also sometimes just sticks slightly. 2. Caused car to swerve into next lane. Fortunately there was no other vehicle there at the time. 3. Have taken to dealer 3 times, but they are unable to replicate issue. 4. Has not been inspected. 5. No warning lights or symptoms.
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle briefly lost motive power before suddenly accelerating quickly, causing the contact to brake hard and bring the vehicle to a complete stop. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The electronic throttle control warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired, and the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The contact was informed that the brake sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. After investigating the failure, the contact related it to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V348000 (Electrical System), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 80,000.
While driving vehicle, car shifted to neutral then park then neutral, while in drive moving down road. Numerous warning came on including "service shifter", check engine, front end collision sensor, abs brake sensor, along with a message to put car in park before shifting . The day before a warning of service shifter came on and the car was unable for a few minutes to shift out of park. Then the codes suddenly went off. Took it to auto zone to check codes and it said no codes were found or stored. First time was September 25, 2023. The next time when it shifted itself out of drive while driving was September 28. Drove home from getting checked for codes with nothing showing up. Drove 5 minutes on October 2, and a bunch of random codes flashed. Took to shop and they found no codes. All warnings went off. Said nothing anyone could find wrong. Said nothing showing up and was fine to drive. October 5 was driving home, 526 miles later with no warnings , and suddenly stopped driving while in motion on road. Same codes flashed. Shifter stopped working. Car wouldnt start or shift. Completely broke down. Had to be towed to dealership. They say transmission needs to be replaced and it is only 500 miles out of warranty. The same 500 miles we had to drive to get it to throw codes. Had previously taken in when I thought transmission was problem when it was dropping gears. They said software update. Continued dropping gears after they "fixed it" and when I called they said it had to relear
On or around September 11, 2023, our 2017 Chrysler Pacifica began to stutter and shake upon ignition. On September 27th, the high engine temperature alarm came up. The coolant reservoir was empty. We filled it up and scheduled an oil change and diagnostic. The Check engine line did not come on for the mechanic during the diagnostic and oil change. The oil change was on September 29th. Shortly after the oil change, the Check Engine line came on again, and on October 5th, the high engine temp alarm came on again. The coolant reservoir was empty again. I filled it again, and drove it to another location. Within a matter of hours, the coolant reservoir was empty again. I scheduled a maintenance visit with our local Chrysler Dealership. I told the dealership the Check Engine light was on and that the reservoir for coolant appeared to be leaking and I had filled it up 3 times. I was informed that the Check Engine light is a Cylinder misfire, and that the car may need a tune up. Upon hear this, I asked the service advisor if they had check the reason for the leaking coolant. I was in disbelief that this was not done as per my original comments. After checking on the coolant leak, the dealership noted that there was no external coolant leak. An internal coolant leak is indicative of a leaking or damaged head gasket. The vehicle purchased in 2017 has 66,000 miles on it. This defective component at this low mileage has put my family at risk of a major accident and will continue to do s
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH, the vehicle independently jumped forward without the accelerator pedal being depressed. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,329.
Bought the vehicle in 2020 (Second Owner) from a wholesale dealer and owned the vehicle for about 3 years. Bought with only 20K miles and currently has 55K on Odometer. Car one day wouldn't start. Had it towed to first Chrysler dealer and told it was a bad starter. Paid for starter and fuse replacement and told it filled the shop with smoke indicating a bad head gasket probably caused by a warped engine block. Had it towed to a second chrysler for addition opinion/look where they speculated it "dropped" exhaust/intake valve requiring a new engine/engine replacement. This vehicle is essentially a lemon and people are reporting many issues whith the 17-18 Chrysler Pacifica's. It has been in shops for over a month.
Unknown. My back up camera is intermittently not working
Need new engine after rough idling.
The gear shifter, which is a knob to put the vehicle in gear, sometimes locks in the "P" Park position. When this occurs, the vehicle cannot be moved, and the occupants are potentially stranded. This first occured about the middle of August 2023. After some moments, the shifter came back on and we were able to drive the vehicle to the dealer, who replaced the gear shifter module at a cost of about $700. The problem reoccured within a few days of the repair. The dealer again replaced the module (at no cost to us). The issue has not been resolved. The gear shifter continues to intermittenly lock in the Park position. The dealer has simply given up on trying to fix the problem. They indicate they have performed substantial diagnostics and are unable to resolvce the problem. We cannot rely on this vehicle to not strand us somewhere. Thus, we believe it is a safety issue.
When driving, car completely shuts down. Usually happens when we are slowing down or stopping, but has also happened when accelerating. No lights come on and never happens when we take it to a mechanic. Happened 10x today alone but 5x over last seven days. We thought it was an issue with the auxiliary battery, but continues to happen. 130k on 2017 Pacifica
Diagnosed by certified dealership as having a warped cylinder head causing coolant to leak into the combustion chamber. Occurred at about 73,000 miles. Based on research I've done, this seems to be very common, yet Chrysler has neglected to do anything about it. It the problem seems to occur just after the standard warranty expires, leaving customers on the hook. It puts safety at risk because it burns coolant and releases that exhaust into the air and ruins engines.
Powertrain Stalls randomly when moving from first to second gear and when changing in and out of park. Vehicle also has loss of power and freezing electronics. The entertainment system and navigation system may stay frozen until vehicle is restarted and in some cases may not turn off even while vehicle is not in a powered state.
I received P258B warning and further diagnosis came to know that C0021-02 and C1252-92 warnings. While applying breaks i am getting hissing noise and break pedal pushes me back where i have to apply lot of pressure to stop the vehicle. This is happening only when i press the pedals hard. I did diagnosis and noticed that the break vaccum pump fuse gone and replaced the same again it blown. Then realized that that the Vaccum pump it self is not working and the same is ordered and replaced. Now the vaccum pump issue is fixed but still the break pedals are hard and getting hissing noise while applying breaks. Now i may need to change the break booster to get this fixed.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
