I was stopped at an intersection & the transmission lights went out, the knob froze & the car would not move. I was stuck there for 45 minutes before it decided to start & go into gear. The readouts on the dashboard kept flashing Service shifter,Service transmission,Service airbags, parking brake unavailable, ACC unavailable the tachometer & speedometer & heat & gas gauges were going to the top then dropping back to zero. This is not the first time the vehicle has acted up. When I have been driving on the Highway the transmission has acted as though it could not shift. I would press the gas & the tachometer would go up over 3000 but the speed would not go over 35mph. This problem has been ongoing since October 2022. Getting more frequent as time goes by. I have had it into Tacoma Dodge/Chrysler several times & they keep telling me they can’t diagnose the problem. It is unsafe to be on the road in a vehicle that can freeze up at any minute, but it is my transportation & I have appointments etc. that I must go out to.
2017 Chrysler Pacifica complaints
Owner reports filed with NHTSA about this vehicle, newest first and reproduced as filed. They are unverified accounts: one proves nothing, and a pattern across many is the thing worth reading. Back to the full 2017 record →
Steering sticks consistently when going around curves, usually around the 10 and 2 areas. Vehicle steering has to be manually forced back to midline. Occurs more frequently the longer the drive and usually at speeds only over 30mph.
While driving my vehicle, it suddenly stalled and told me to put it in park. I was driving approximately 25 miles per hour. I had to pull over and put it in park. It then allowed me to restart. There were no warning lamps and happened spontaneously. I have not had the issue reproduced but this wad part of a recall for this vehicle in 2018 that seems to have returned.
I was stopped at a light and the car flashed all its lights and shifted me into park. After it started right back up but the check engine light came on and stayed on. It did this another two times as well and is very dangerous for me driving with my kids. prior to this issue I had to replace shutter and head gasket (Coolant leak). This car has so far cost 6K in repairs.
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the temperature gauge fluctuated between hot(H) and normal(N). In addition, the vehicle hesitated upon depression of the accelerator pedal. The contact discovered that the coolant level remained low. The e vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where leaks were discovered in the oil housing and the radiator. The contact's husband replaced the spark plugs; however, the failure remained. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the mechanic discovered a misfire in cylinder #3. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 81,000.
The steering wheel on the vehicle sticks periodically when you are executing a slow turn or adjustment of the vehicle. This is particularly the case on the highway, when you are engaged in a slow turn of the steering wheel when changing lanes or when adjusting your position within a lane. The wheel will stick and then jump into the position that you wish the wheel to be in. This particularly happens in the 11 to 1 position of a turn or adjustment. This is not particularly noticeable in lower speed driving or around town. This issue has been ongoing over a year. We have had it in 4 times and no one can find anything. Upon researching online there have several complaints of this exact issue. See other complaints here. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
More often than not, At roughly 17, 25, and 35 MPH, the transmission will disengage to shift, take its time to get into the gear it needs, and clicks into gear very rough. When this happens it is hard enough to slam you back into the seat, which has caused me to swerve pretty bad. I have taken it to a dealership, and they say its a known issue and the only "remedy" is to update the vehicle, but it wont actually fix it, it will keep on happening.
The car struggles to shift from 1st to 2nd due to a software issue with the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The software has been flashed multiple times, but the issue persists. When the vehicle struggles to shift gears, it stops accelerating and jerks into the next gear with great force. This causes the car and passengers to jolt. I have almost been hit multiple times when this happens when crossing lanes of traffic or when another car is behind me and the car suddenly jolts. This happens anywhere from a couple of times a day to a couple of times a week. The issue is more prominent around the speeds of 22 to 30.
For MANY years we've struggled with hard shifting by transmission. When brought to dealer, they couldn't find anything wrong. We also complained about a continuous ticking sound from dashboard when vehicle was turned off. It lasts for several minutes. We are now experiencing brake pedal issues where brake pedal fights against the foot when trying to push it down...and uncalled for instances of windows auto lowering. Only now am I learning that there have been several recalls for these items and we've never been informed. When looking up our VIN for recalls, the site say we have "0" unfixed recall items, even though we've never been informed of the recalls.
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH and approaching a stop, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact stated that the “Shift to Park to Restart” message was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact shifted the vehicle to park and restarted the vehicle; however, the START/STOP warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the infotainment system became inoperable however, the vehicle operated as needed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and both batteries were replaced; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that no failure was found. The manufacturer provided no additional assistance. The failure mileage was 58,000.
Vehicle will stall unexpectedly while driving
I purchased 2017 Chrysler Pacifica in 2021, I started having issues my vehicle after my 30 day warranty expired it seemed on and off at times now more noticealbe the START/STOP feature failed to work properly. The vehicle stalled when the brake pedal was released I had to restart the vehicle. The contact disabled the START/STOP feature. Additionally, while driving at night in the rain the vehicle acted up or started to blow hot air from the AC unit at 75 degrees with out the option to change it only way to restart was to turn on and off the vehicle. I also had problems with the coolant being low, and coolant was added. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the check engine and coolant lights were illuminated. The battery was faulty, and the START/STOP feature was inoperable. A pressure test was performed however, the mechanic was unable to locate a coolant leak. The vehicle was taken to two mechanics EGR cooler valve was cracked and my engine was damaged as well as the pistons. The vehicle had to have the whole engine replaced which was an expensive expense I had to pay out of pocket, the dealer did not cover the damage. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 104, 000 or so. I still do not feel safe using this vehicle it is my family vehicle, please advised. I have invoices but not at the moment I had to replace the engine, the battery, the cool
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and continued driving. The contact stated that the failure recurred on two occasions. The contact stated that on the third occasion, a message to park and to restart the vehicle was displayed; however, the vehicle failed to restart at first attempt. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the failure was related to the fuel pump. The vehicle was not repaired. An unknown dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 53,000.
Brake system is not functioning correctly. The pedal completely depressed, car does not stop. Requires pumping brake pedal once or twice to stop vehicle. This is a concerning safety issue. Took the care fir service, no issue was found. Vehicle still not braking correctly.
The vehicles steering wheel is binding intermittently, the power steering seems to come on and off. It can happen at any speed.
As has been reported by a number of other owners of this vehicle, the steering wheel on the vehicle sticks periodically when you are executing a slow turn or adjustment of the vehicle. This has been happening on this 2017 Pacifica for about 12 months now. I feel that this puts the safety of occupants at risk. I have had this checked out by my regular service station.
Blown head gasket
Losing power like the vehicle is in limp mode. Flashes the “service lights” for multiple things including shifter, airbags, breaking system, etc. it has set the park break while in motion as well. When a computer is attached is brings up can c bus codes and implausible assisted driving codes. Also will not go into reverse when this is happening. Sometimes the shifter doesn’t work either.
When it shifts or shifts too early, it makes a loud noise from the transmission.
The electronics system experiences issues while driving. Particularly, the passenger front window rolls itself down at random intervals while driving. This can happen several times during a drive. These incidents at times are accompanied by a flickering of the dashboard display and a message that says to service the electronics system. The window is also often difficult to roll up as it engages the bounce back feature multiple times. The incidents have occurred at multiple driving speeds above 30mph. These incidents cause a major distraction while driving because of their unexpected and abrupt nature. The abrupt sound distraction from wind while the window is open also distracts the driver from focusing on driving. As a result, this malfunction is unsafe.
Engine 3.6l non-hybrid has bad head gaskets/heads causing misfire and dangerous potential for vapor lock and engine failure. This is a known issue and there is a recall for the exact same vechile and engine up to 2016. Mine is a 2017 so its not covered in the recall for the exact same condition with the exact same engine. Spoke to manufacturer today they looked at offering some assistance in the price to fix the known issue, unfortunatley I bought the car used (paid over $25,000 in 2018) due to this the manufacturer can not assist in anyway. This is a known issue that is well documneted online by thousands of upset customers. I have no choice but to pay an exorbitant amount to have it fixed before it vapor locks going down the road and hurts my family.
P303 issue but the dealer is asking to replace whole engine.
This happens every single time we drive our Pacifica: Per many other complaints available online, the current gen Pacifica (2017-present), when equipped with ADAS such as lane keep assist, has a steering issue as follows: -under varying conditions, the vehicle's steering wheel will "stick." This issue typically follows a small steering input of 10-25 degrees in either direction. -When the steering wheel sticks, it presents 2 major safety issues: 1) the vehicle maintains its course and could collide with objects or veer off the road and 2) the sticking of the wheel is so severe at times that the counter-steering required to correct the "stick" presents a danger of driving into oncoming traffic. -Yes, Dodge of Boerne, TX, and it was "fixed" by securing a ground wire on the vehicle, but the problem continues to persist -Just dealership listed above -No Here are selections of other reports on this issue: https://www.pacificaforums.com/threads/2017-steering-problems.48061/ https://www.pacificaforums.com/threads/2017-steering-issue.50528/ https://www.pacificaforums.com/threads/the-steering-wheel-tries-to-turn-by-itself-when-driving-on-uneven-roads.23538/ https://www.carproblemzoo.com/chrysler/pacifica/2017/steering-problems.php I am guessing this issue is what was addressed at our service appointment, but it did not solve our specific issue: https://www.mlive.com/news/2019/05/fca-recalls-198k-pacifica-minivans-due-to-potential-issue-with-power-steering.html
The van began to run rough in the mornings when I first started up. I initially thought a tire was flat. But all tires were fine. It did this several mornings but then would begin driving smoothly as normal about 2-3 minutes after the drive started. A little less than two weeks later the check engine light came on for the first time. It ran roughly but lasted a little longer; maybe 5 minutes. The check engine light would go off. It did this a couple of times. The third time, the check engine light came on and started blinking. Then maybe 20 minutes into the drive the van began to overheat. I turned on the heat and the gauge went down to normal right away and drove as usual. The check engine light stopped blinking but stayed on. No problems for the rest of the hour-long drive. The next day, the same thing happened while i was on the highway. It started overheating, but the overheating lasted longer and intensified at higher speeds, so I had to drive about 24-35 on an expressway. I took it to a Fiat Chrysler Auto/Mopar Service repair shop immediately. The manager suspected that there was a crack in the cylinder and coolant was leaking into possibly the engine or somewhere else. They said they've seen this same crack, in the same location on many other Chrysler Pacificas. They took pictures (see attached) and sent it to FCA/Mopar. It took several weeks for an FCA/Mopar Inspector to come out. But once they did, they confirmed a crack and the van required a new engine. I'm told th
We keep receiving a service shifter error. We have taken it to the dealership 4 times. When the error comes up we are not able to change the gears. After a while, it starts to work normally again. Now as we drive it we get a bunch of error codes and it is hard to press down on the gas. Today when my husband put it in reverse the car did not move.
The steering wheel is consistently sticking. I have had tires replaced alignments done the rack check however the problem persists. The steering sticking can cause my vehicle to enter oncoming traffic if it sticks to ard and i jerk it it could also cause an accident. There is currently no recalls in affect for my vehicle. It has been inspected by 3 independent shops. No warning lights or other problems have been noticed.
UNKNOWN, BEST ASSESSMENT: The car does not have a standard condensate drain line. It uses a pan that fills with water and then uses the blower fan to blow the water dry. It will only work as expected if the passenger turns off the air conditioner before they arrive at their destination. In hot climates such as Phoenix, Arizona, the air conditioner is on the entire time the vehicle is running. Due to this design, it causes mold to grow in the air conditioner. This presents a breathing health and safety risk that can lead to a driver having difficulty breathing, which could lead to the driver becoming unconscious, which can lead to a fatal crash. I am willing to have my vehicle inspected upon request. I have found that this hazard is putting others at risk through numerous online forums where people complain to the dealership about the mold and they spray it with an air freshener that doesn't solve the problem. This has not been inspected by others. There are no warning messages on the screen or dash.
Since buying our Pacifica it would shift really hard and shake the car. Upon taking it into the dealer they said it was a common problem and there’s nothing they could do for it. Now, with only 64,000 we have a broken head gasket. There are many complaints of this online right around this mileage and it should definitely be recalled.
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that after operating the rear power sliding doors to open, she then depressed the button to close the rear power sliding doors; however, as the contact's relative was entering the vehicle in between the power rear sliding door closing, the sliding doors failed to stop when the contact depressed the OPEN/CLOSE button to stop the doors from closing. As a result, the sliding power door continued to close shut on the relative’s right calf, requiring medical attention. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 86,295.
Cylinder 6 began misfiring causing my vehicle to shake violently and losing any acceleration. I was on a busy hwy during rush hour and was unsafe in a 55 mph zone where I was only able to coast. 4 months later, cylinder 5 began misfiring, causing jerking during start up with my 5 year old in the vehicle and I'm pregnant at 4 months. Now one week after cylinder 5 being fixed, the Pacifica bas a blown head gasket. Tons of smoke, tons of shaking and jerking. A super unreliable and unsafe vehicle for myself, my child, and my unborn child.
The electrical interface components stopped working spontaneously; the speedometer and RPM gauge dropped to zero, the windshield wipers turned on, and all of the "check engine" type warning lights lit up on the dash (check engine, seatbelt, airbag, battery, etc). The warning messages started popping up one after another on the dash, for example, "Service Trans Stop Safely Shut Off Engine to Engage Park," "Stop/Start Not Ready Due to Outside Temperature," "Park Brake Temporarily Unavailable" etc. I tried to put the car in Park, but the round shift knob locked in Neutral. I could not turn off the engine with the ignition button (keyless ignition). There was no way to turn off the engine without opening the hood and disconnecting something manually. Everything spontaneously went back to normal for about 15 minutes, then it happened again and has not gone back to normal since. The photos I am attaching were taken during the first incident, during the second incident, and in between the two incidents when the electrical was working again.
Our 2017 Chrysler Pacifica's check engine light came on. We took it in and the dealer replaced the spark plugs. Two days later the light came back on. They are telling us its a cylinder misfire and cylinder 5 is filling with coolant. They are charging us thousands of dollars to fix this issue. The car is not safe to drive until this is fixed. We have researched and found that this is a very common issue with these vans. Chrysler needs to be held accountable. They could have fixed this issue with a recall instead of waiting for our safety to be compromised and then spending thousands of dollars for the repair.
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who was unable to determine the cause of failure. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 54,215.
The component that failed was the engine. Blown Head Gasket. Had engine light turn on, too to dealership They found error code P0305, cylinder 5 misfire. upon more investigation, spark plug clean, found coolant on cylinder 5. Technician at the dealership found a warper right cylinder head warped and the engine cracked. The vehicle was inspected by the warranty company AUL Corp. They found that the car overheated. There were never any warning lights, lamps, or messages of a hot overheating engine. All of a sudden one morning I turned on the car and the engine ight turn on. The car was shaking and waned to stall. immediately took into dealership. This engine blown head gasket issue in these engines are a known issue to Chrysler We have to pay $13,000 to get it fixed. AUL Corp inspected the vehicle but they did not want to give us a report of their finding, they just told us the claim was denied because supposedly we drove the car while overheating. We did not drive it, there were no warnings of a hot engine
I bought the 2017 Pacifica Limited new from Mt. Ephraim Chrysler, Dodge, Ram in Mt. Ephraim, New Jersey. Within a few months of owning the car, I encountered multiple problems which kept the car off the road and raised concerns about the reliability of the car. I kept taking it back to the dealership for servicing, but never felt like they fully addressed the issues that I had explained. I then took it to Turnersville Chrysler, Jeep, Ram for help. Since then, they have been servicing the vehicle. I had the car three weeks ago because it was running sluggish. They kept it for a day and made some changes to see what was going on with the car. I brought it home, drove it a little more and then had to have it towed back into the dealership. I was then told that they would have to tear down the engine to diagnose the issue. They determined that there was an internal coolant leak and that I would need to replace the engine. I realize that there are 114,000 miles on the car HOWEVER- the car has been meticulously maintained and the issue that I now face is not due to lack of care. This is an issue that I feel Chrysler should be held accountable for and take responsibility for the repairs. I have already reached out to your customer service department and am disappointed that my inquiry for goodwill assistance has been declined. This is unacceptable. I shared that I was not satisfied with that response especially since there are many others who have reported this issue as well and it
Unbeknownst to me, there was water pump leak which led to overheating, and eventually coolant being dumped into the engine. Originally diagnosed as a P0305 cylinder 5 misfire. Teardown revealed that the water pump had been leaking for quite some time, causing subsequent follow on damage. Engine needs to be replaced and AUL Corp will not cover the damages. We are a family of four, and would regularly transport other family and friends. Luckily we were without any incidents however, this is a safety issue that needs to be addressed in regards to these faulty Chrysler engines. I have read enough claims and horror stories in regards to the Chrysler Pacificas and am in shock that there was never a recall or a extended warranty for owners like myself who is now stuck with unsafe van, that doesn't work, and requires too much money to fix. We loved the van however, this experience has told me to steer clear from AUL Corp, and any Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep vehicles for forever.
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that after the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V348000 (Electrical System), the feature became inoperable. The START/STOP feature warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where an unknown repair was completed; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that while attempting to drive from a complete stop, the vehicle failed to respond while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that at the second attempt, the vehicle lunged forward. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring. The dealer was contacted and charged a diagnostic test fee. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 8,892.
During driving an orange check engine warning light is turned on. In 5 minutes from then, a red warning message "engine is overheating" turned on, I stopped immediately in the middle of the road and this warning message turned off. I checked for coolant and saw an empty container. No engine coolant warning light were turned on previously warning me of the coolant issue. I didn't use the car and added coolant Later that day I tried to use the car and it was operating normally. My car was sitting in the garage for a couple of days while I was waiting for the appointment to do the diagnostic. In two days the check engine warning lamp turned off. On the day of my appointment the car didn't start and was towed to the dealership for the check up. After series of diagnostics I was told engine is locked up and needs to be replaced. My car had only 75000 miles at that moment and just 3000 miles from the last oil change.
Car was serviced for a gas leak at a Chrysler Dealership the previous day. The next morning, I was driving at a low speed (<20 mph) when an error message appeared "Car must be in P (park) to place in drive." I switched to P and tried to restart the engine. It turned over several times but never restarted. A police officer had to manually disengage the transmission and emergency brake to put the car in neutral and roll it to a turn lane (rather than in heavy traffic). The car was towed to a dealership and is still being diagnosed. We had no driving issues prior to the car stalling this morning, even with the previous gas leak mentioned above.
Driving the car and the engine shuts off. Car then says to shift into park. No error readout occurs
The driver-side sliding door will continue to open when trying to close it. When we activate the auto-shut, it will close all the way, beep, and then open back up. Nothing obstructs the sensors or the door. Shutting the door multiple times will eventually shut on its own. We have found the vehicle with this door open overnight and at various other times. It opens on its own without pressing any button.
While turning to the intersection the van stop suddenly. On the dashboard there's a flashing "shift to P to start" message. There were no signs and warnings before it happened and there were no symptoms as well. This incident is very scary especially my three kids are with me as I just picked them up from the school. It also cause traffic in the intersection and frustration from the other drivers because everyone was accelerating and had to make a sudden stop. I believe that this is an electrical problem and it is a total safety hazard. It could be a major accident if this happen while driving in the freeway. Now I am scared to drive this van and very worried for the safety of my family.
First showed up as a misfire in cylinder #3 check engine light. Found out it was coolant leaking in to combustion chamber due to warped head/head gasket leak on rear side of the engine (cylinders 1,3,5). We have 85K miles on it and had to pay $5400 to repair and ~$1000 in rental car fees while in the shop for two weeks.
On the highway the temp gauge went all the way to hot and then immediately went back to normal temp. We pulled over on the shoulder of the busy highway and let it sit for a bit, and it never showed hot again and stayed in the normal range. Drove 5 more miles to home and checked the coolant and it was almost empty. We filled it and kept checking it every day. Had to add more every other day till we could get it in to a mechanic. a few days later the engine idled rough and check engine light came on. Took to mechanic and he said code P03305 showed as a mis fire in cylinder #3. He replaced the coil pack and spark plug and did a pressure test on the coolant system to see if he could find the leak. He said I could find a leak and bet that it was a crack head leaking coolant into cylinder #3. Ran better for another week or so while we were waiting for our appointment at the dealership to have them look into where the leak was. 2 days before our appointment at the dealership, we had the same rough idle and code P03050 saying misfire in cylinder #3. I replaced just the spark plug and then took it to the dealership. They misdiagnosed the problem as the reservoir was leaking. After they replaced it, we were back 2 weeks later with the coolant still leaking somewhere. They eventually found the head was warped due to excessive heat and coolant leaking into the #3 cylinder. This van has around 73,000 miles on it. After researching, it seems Chrysler has a faulty engine that is causing peo
-stalling out in the middle of driving (on 270 with the kids in the car, forced me to put it in park and turn it off and back on) - unable to start car initially, error message stating that the power brake is on (it's not) an unable to switch gears to get car to start (this took 10 minutes to fix with kids in car in parking lot) - car will not accelerate at appropriate speed, leaving me stuck at a stop sign or when the light turns green (again, kids in car) - power doors not opening/shutting, needing to manually open and close - heating/AC blowing out at random intervals, inconsistent air flow - random dashboard buttons lighting up indicating there are problems, but then the buttons diminish
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while the vehicle was stationary, the turn signals activated independently. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact also stated that the key fob would deactivate the horn. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 108,454.
I bought this Pacifica used 2 months ago and was told there were no issues with it by Carvana. During this time frame I have taken it to 2 mechanics to have it looked at for running rough. Was told it was my fuel sensor needing replaced. We tried replacing that and less than a week later my transmission is now saying Gear 2 incorrect ratio. I have put approximately 6000 miles on it in a 2 month period. The vehicle only has 61050 miles on it. The transmission acts like it is slipping when I’m trying to drive it or other times it will jerk really bad which was mentioned to both mechanics when they looked at it.
Engine light stays on and Carmax and Chrysler Dealership keep telling me nothing is wrong. Noone can fix it. I never know is my car is safe. Will it blow up. I want my money back or want them to fix it.
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to CarMax where it was diagnosed; however, the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the oil needed to be changed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was determined that either the fuel filler, filler neck, or filler tube failed and could not be repaired or replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 56,054.
Our van did not have any prior issues but last week the head gasket went bad and the engine would not start. we purchased this vehicle brand new and barely had any issues with it. If this would have happened on the road my wife and kids would of been stranded. The vehicle is at a Chrysler Dealership and at first they thought it was the starter, but determined that it was the head gasket because there was fluid in the oil. the Engine light came on right before the car wouldn't start. I did see there is a class action suit for this type of van and year.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
