2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV

Defect. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV vehicles. The pedestrian alert sound system may not produce a sufficient change in volume between the vehicle being stopped and moving at low speeds. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 141, "Minimum Sound Requirements for Hybrid and Electric Vehicles."

Risk. A vehicle that fails to make sufficient sound may result in pedestrians being unaware of an approaching vehicle, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy. The vehicle's body control module software will be updated by a dealer, or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 17, 2025. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N252527170.

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving, the vehicle experienced phantom braking. The failure caused the brakes to lock up. The contact and the child seated in rear in a car seat sustained whiplash and seat belt bruises. The failure mileage was 50,500.

Driving at 50 mph car applies brakes for no reason

We have occasional issues with the car coming to a very abrupt stop for no apparent reason. Typically this will happen when going through an intersection or pulling into our garage. Auto braking has been disabled in the system settings for quite some time, and in fact, each time we get in the car we see a warning that forward anti-collision braking is off. This has happened twice withing the past 4 days and we have concerns that if it continues to be a more frequent issue it will cause an accident. I recently spoke with another GM owner who told me they are experiencing the same issue so I thought I should log a complaint to hopefully help instigate a recall/fix.

Automatic emergency breaking engaged while driving through an intersection when there was no danger or incoming car or need for it. If the car behind us was not paying attention they could have rear ended us.

I was driving South on interstate 55 near Arnold Missouri in adaptive cruise control mode at approximately 65 mph when the car braked suddenly and came to a complete stop on the interstate. Car would not go forward after stopping. Turned the car off and restarted and the car now would drive normally. Have not used ACC since and car has behaved normally. Took the car to dealership in Farmington, MO and they reported no error codes and no recalls. I had driven over 13,000 miles in the car without any incidents previously.

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving and attempting to reverse, the brakes unexpectedly engaged. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V639000 (Forward Collision Avoidance). The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Backing out of a parking spot, no one around the car slams on the brakes and starts screeching! Scared the crap out of me and nearly gave me whiplash.

My cars automatic braking system stops when there is no present need. It brakes with extreme force. It has happened multiple times to both myself and my husband while driving. The car stops and instantly I think I must have hit something that stopped the car. There isn't anything closer than 10 - 20 or feet away. this happens at a slow speed and is very startling. We took in in to the dealer yesterday and they told us they couldn't replicate it. It happened to my husband this morning again. I looked online to see if there are any complaints to which I saw that there have been numerous complaints. Some stating that this phantom braking has happened on the highways at speeds of 65-70 mph. The thought of that is so frightening. An accident with injuries or deaths could occur. Please look into this. Thank you

While driving my 2024 Chevy Equinox EV in stop-and-go traffic, I experienced a sudden and violent application of the emergency braking system without warning or apparent cause. I was accelerating from a complete stop to approximately 5 MPH. The vehicle ahead of me was maintaining a distance of roughly 6 to 9 feet. Unlike previous instances where the vehicle has falsely detected an object and triggered a red warning light (without engaging the brakes), this time there was no alert or warning. The system immediately and forcefully applied the brakes, locking them completely. This abrupt action caused a near-whiplash effect and nearly resulted in a rear-end collision. I believe this may be a malfunction or overly sensitive calibration of the automatic emergency braking system. The lack of any visual or audible warning prior to brake engagement is especially concerning. I am reporting this incident to raise awareness of a potential safety issue that could endanger drivers and passengers. Additional Notes: • Road conditions were normal. • No obstacles or vehicles were detected in the immediate path. • The incident occurred during daylight hours in clear weather.

After Super Cruise disengages and applies the transition brake, the brake pressure sometimes doesn’t release. The vehicle remains partially or fully braked and won’t roll freely for up to 30 minutes while on a freeway or highway. We are able to move the car to the side of road when this happens but slowly. In one case we attempted to exit the freeway and the breaks got so hot they locked up in the middle of an intersection and the police department had to direct traffic around us. When this happens the warning lights are “rear cross traffic unavailable “ and “forward collision unavailable”. Dealers have inspected and opened up tac cases with manufacturer but they claim to not know issue.

We just bought the car and are realizing that by removing CarPlay from the EV versions (the ICE versions have it in the same hardware) hands free texting is very problematic. Group texts com through as individual texts, voice texting back to groups doesn’t work. This is a safety issue since it will cause people to go back to looking at their phone and the lack of CarPlay is simply a money grab that comes at the expense of safety.

The dash allows for significant amount of glare that reflects in bright sunlight and impare visibility through the windshield.

The 2 problems that I am reporting are visibility issues. There are situations when it is very difficult to see out of this car. When bright sunshine comes through the windshield it reflects off of the dashboard making it almost impossible to see out. Pedestrians are very difficult to see and it's very dangerous to continue driving. The second problem is that the driver and passenger side windows are deeply tinted. I thought that this is illegal. At night the windows are so dark that you cannot see autos or pedestrians in intersections. I find that I have to roll down the windows so that I can safely see before proceeding through the intersection. I'm not sure what I'm going to do in the winter or a driving rainstorm. I have found that wearing polarized sunglasses helps with the windshield problem but only replacing the side windows will the tinted window problem be fixed.

Vehicle engages the forward collision control system without an obstacle, locking the brakes and causing abrupt stops. This usually happens in heavy slow moving traffic conditions with sharp and short accelerations (merging and lane changing).

The vehicle will randomly brake on its own. I can be doing 70 on the interstate with no one around and it will disengage cruise and brake hard. It has nearly caused one accident when i had someone following me too closely.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The forward collision warning and rear collision warning systems malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to brake unexpectedly when there was no obstacle or threat. Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The vehicle braked suddenly and forcefully without cause. This created a risk of being rear-ended in traffic, nearly caused an accident, and also risked injury to my dog who was inside the vehicle during one of the incidents. The sudden braking while backing out of my garage also poses a safety hazard. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The problem has occurred multiple times but has not yet been formally reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No, the vehicle or component has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning lamps or messages appeared prior to the braking events. The problem occurred suddenly without any prior indication.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The passive keyless entry/anti-lockout system on my 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV failed. The vehicle locked all doors with the key fob still inside the cabin. The doors appeared unlocked (handles popped out) but would not open from the outside. The key fob and vehicle are available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? This malfunction created a severe child safety hazard. If my daughter had been inside during warm weather, she could have been trapped in a rapidly heating vehicle with no way to escape. This posed a life-threatening risk. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Not yet. The problem occurred once unexpectedly, but I intend to raise it with my Chevrolet dealer for confirmation. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Not yet. The incident was resolved without emergency services, but I am reporting it immediately to GM and NHTSA for investigation. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? There were no warning lamps, chimes, or alerts. The vehicle gave no indication that the fob was inside or that the system had locked incorrectly.

The instrument cluster screen displayed a message that said "service vehicle display" then went completely black. Without this screen, I have no idea how fast I'm going, the charge of the car, if there is some kind of hazard around the car. I brought the vehicle in for service on 7/2/25, where I was told the car attempted to update but failed, so they pushed through the update and it should be fine now. I then took it home, charged the car, and let it sit. As soon as I turned it on again, the "service vehicle display" message reappeared. Then as I was driving, the instrument cluster screen went out, followed by the infotainment screen. The instrument panel screen then got vertical rainbow lines across it and didn't return. I brought the vehicle back in on 7/17/25. They took the whole dashboard apart, determined that it was a loose cable, plugged it back in, and told me it should be fine now. I took the car home, charged it, and let it sit. The next time I drove it, the "service vehicle display" message returned, then the instrument panel went out. I brought it back in on 8/6/25. The car stayed there until 8/22/25, when they told me that they replaced some of the cables and it should be fine now. I am not comfortable driving this car with my 4 month old if I can't see how fast I'm going, how much charge is on the car, or worrying that the infotainment screen, and therefore the back-up camera, are going to suddenly go out.

The video processing unit in my vehicle stopped working. I lost all cameras all safety equipment in my vehicle. All radar stopped working. I took my car to the Chevy dealership after three days. They advised multiple vehicles have this problem and they were ordering the part. They told me it was OK to drive my car. on my way home from the dealership I was involved in a head-on collision. My car is being repaired, but the body shop stays. This is still not working and they do not feel safe for me to drive it to the dealership

Automatic Emergency Braking sometimes triggers when backing up in the rain when no hazard is present. Has occurred several times since purchase. Occurred today 8/13/2025 for perhaps the fifth or sixth time since ownership.

We love the car and would buy it again - BUT - it has one significant problem which is in-fact a safety problem. Anytime the sun is shining on the dashboard there is a major reflection on the windshield. See the attached photo which was made as we were pulling into the garage. It was 12:41 PM EDT on July 17th, about a half hour before solar noon. The car is pointed at approximately 85 degrees (almost due east) and the sun is about 90 degrees to our right. This is a extreme case of the reflection because the garage is darker than ambient. It is almost impossible to view where we are going. But the excessive reflection is always there when the sun is shining on the dash. It is my opinion that the car need some sort of anti reflective surface. We love the car and would buy it again - BUT - it has one significant problem which is in-fact a safety problem. The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV. The contact stated that the front windshield would display lines across the windshield from left to right. The contact stated that the failure obstructed driving visibility and prevented the safe operation the vehicle. The contact stated that the glare of the sun on the dashboard was reflected on the front windshield. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

While driving my 2024 Chevy Equinox EV, intense glare reflects off the dashboard and windshield under certain lighting conditions, especially in sunlight. This glare creates severe visibility issues, at times completely blinding the driver and making it unsafe to operate the vehicle. The issue poses a significant safety risk not only to me but to other drivers and pedestrians. The problem is consistent and reproducible, but no warning messages or indicators are shown. I have not yet had it formally inspected by the manufacturer or dealer, but the issue appears to be a design flaw affecting visibility. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.

Equinox 2 EV 2024 Dashboard has a pattern that reflects in the sun onto the front window making it extremely difficult to see out the window. Happens all the time.

Due to the design of the dash there is a horrible glare on the windshield and it makes it very difficult to see out of the front windshield. This needs to be addressed immediately as it very distracting and can lead to an accident due to lack of visibility on sunny days.

Sunlight hits the dashboard and reflects a glare onto the windshield that partially blocks view of the road. The dashboard reflection is enough that it can be difficult to see traffic, people cross the road, etc.

There is a horrible glare on the windshield during sunny conditions that reflects the slatted dash lines onto the windshield. It is incredibly hard to see during certain times of the day.

Glare from the sun on the dash causes blindness and unable to safely see out of the windshield. It's a safety hazard to operate and unsafe for anyone else on he road when the sun hits it. Test drove and bought the car on a cloudy day and the first time the sun hit my dash I nearly rear ended the car in front of me. Emergency braking system activated to avoid a collision due to me not being able to see the brake lights in front of me even though I was wearing sunglasses

The dashboard glare is very noticeable and makes it difficult to see out of. After the right turn signal disengages it will sometimes initiate the left turn signal for 3 clicks. Both are saftey flaws

It is difficult to see out of the windshield when the sun in shining. The material the dash is made of makes an awful reflection on the windshield.

The vehicle seemingly at random, will engage automatic emergency braking. These events are hard braking events, locking up wheels and engaging ABS for brief moments at 75mph. There is no sensitivity adjustment, forcing the safety features off to ensure I am not rear ended. In my first month of ownership, we have experienced: 1) backing out of my garage in good weather and into my driveway (flat surface, no hills) causing whiplash. 2) inside turning lane of a 2-lane left turns, presumably detecting the outside lane vehicle, stopping in the middle of an intersection instantly. Assumed going 18-20mph. Almost caused accidents behind me. 3)On interstate, going 75 mph in good weather, passing a vehicle estimated to be going 65mph, caused the braking system to engage hard and the tires to squeal from locking up. Vehicle nearly lost control. Software is up to date, last update was mid March 2025

Have had no heat in the car for several days. Today while driving on the freeway, vehicle has warning come up of "High Voltage Warning" and "Service Vehicle Soon." Dealership cannot get car in for another week and no loaner vehicles to any customers.

Since my vehicle has a software update, my vehicle has had multiple instances of the AEB engaging in instances where it previously wouldn't have. The worst case was when I was in a parking lot turning into a space and the AEB went off when there was no reason for it to. This has also gone off while driving when slowing down at a light when they're was another vehicle in front but I was slowing down as normal.

When driving in a direction that is nearly aligned with the sun, the reflection off the dashboard presents a hologram-like image onto the windshield which obstructs the drivers view. It looks like it’s caused by the textured pattern of the dashboard. My wife typically drives the car, and we’re just coming out of overcast days so this is the first time I’ve really noticed how bad it is.

When using the turn sign to turn right, it will overcompensate and after completing the turn, turn the left turn signal on. The vehicle is available for inspection. The dealership, on second trip for the issue, was able to duplicate the issue. They did change the turn signal stalk. It is still doing this same thing, however less. I have mentioned it the dealership that it is still occurring and they have opened a case with GM they state. It put the safety of me and others at risk because people behind me believe I am turning left all of a sudden, and I am not turning left. There were no warning messages that had or have appeared. I first reported this to the dealership in August of 2024. This has happened more than the date I put down below. It has happened 6 times since the repair was done approximately 2 months ago.

I was driving on the freeway and the dashboard went dark and then rebooted. I did not have a speedometer. I did not lose control of the car. It was frightening.

Front or rear sensors Slamming on breaks multi times called on star not able to get in for service sometimes car for would have many error message systems not available key not in car while driving - cameras not working while on atleast 25 calls to on star and 4 or 5 hours on hold with chevy ev department Because of this CAR was traded in financial loss was over $18,000

Was fast charging. After 8 minutes car stop charging. Service vehicle light come on. And vehicle will not charge now. No regeneration either. Burning smell from vehicle. Dealer found code p1c34 Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Current Sensor - Temperature Sensor Circuit Low. Battery was replaced.

Glare on the windshield from the dash is a major problem in this vehicle. Upon searching for remedies, I've found dozens upon dozens (probably well over 100) of unique posts, videos and comments all regarding this issue. I just purchased this vehicle two days ago and I turned south on to a busy street earlier today and I could barely see and had to immediately pull off to a side street and find a way to cover the dash (I used my hoodie) to get home. This is dangerous. A guy even makes a mat for this problem: [XXX] But in my opinion, GM needs to fix this in a recall. The Equinox EV has rear Automatic Emergency Braking. On multiple occasions while backing up the vehicle's AEB has activated by slamming on the parking brake. A check of the rear camera and sensor system shows the vehicle detected nothing. A visual check also shows nothing behind the vehicle that's outside the sensor system's field of view. When this happens it feels like you just backed into a wall - hard. Latest incident was this morning while backing into a spot in a parking garage.

The headlamp wells fill up with snow rendering the headlamps useless. You then have to exit the vehicle, and clean them out. All while trying not to get hit by other vehicles.

When driving in winter, during a snowstorm, in the dark, the recessed headlights fill with snow. This makes the light dim because the LED lights don’t get hot and melt the snow. You have to pull over and clean them manually.

While driving on the highway at approximately 60MPH, both display screens went completely blank. The A/C stopped working and radio speakers also stopped working. After about 30 seconds, the system had reset and came back on as if it was the start up sequence. I could not tell if it affected steering/braking since I was on a relatively straight road and light traffic but it was highly disconcerting that all speed/vehicle information went blank. If this had happened in denser traffic and the steering/brakes also affected, this could have caused a crash. As it was, I did not have any correlation to the current speed of the vehicle except for the previous reading. The onstar system shows no malfunctions, and there have not been any additional issues or warnings from the car before or since. The vehicle has not been looked at by manufacturer/dealership or any other entity.

When in reverse brakes will automatically activate alerting to a pedestrian when there isn't anything there.

When sun hits dashboard causing a glare from material of dashboard to make visibility an issue.

My Chevrolet Equinox EV 2RS has glare on the front windshield due to design grille on the area below front windshield. So there is extreme glare depending on the direction of sunlight hitting that area. So I strongly feel this is a security issue for all drivers on the road and GM should alleviate this with a solution. Please advise.

Highly reflective interior glass makes using the side mirrors impossible in common sunny conditions. Unable to see cars and blind spot monitoring light. Incident occurred where I merged into car after straining to use mirror to ensure area was clear. Also, reflection from interior in certina condition make forward visibility dangerous.

- Vehicle showed error message for high voltage battery on 1/3/2025 at less than 5,000 miles. Vehicle was able to drive unrestricted (full speed and acceleration). Vehicle was able to fast charge even though the vehicle was coding for high voltage battery issue. Was informed via Chevy EV that it could be a "glitch" and to continue to drive it, charge it, and see if it would just go away. I did not feel comfortable driving around with a high voltage battery warning and took it to the dealership. Dealership tried to make me drive off lot with it saying it might just be a "glitch" and to call them back if it did not go away. I refused got mgmt involved and was provided a loaner so they could look at my vehicle. - Dealership called me and notified me ,1/6/2025 11:32 AM, that the error was in the thermal management system for the battery. The heat pump that is used to provide thermal mgmt to the battery to ensure safe operating temps had failed. - Safety was put in risk because I park in my driveway which sides up against my house as well as my neighbors house. There is where my charger is also installed. Safety for myself and others was also put at risk. Highway driving increases heat of the battery pack I was told to continue using this vehicle (drive highway daily) which endangers myself in the vehicle and other people around if it caught on fire. - Vehicle was inspected on 1/6 and found to have faulty Thermal system after being told to keep driving on 1/3. - Warning lamp no ac

There is a terrible reflection from the dashboard onto the windshield that under certain conditions, ie: bright sunlight, it really interferes with visibility, making driving rather dangerous. I've read of many complaints about this same problem.

The turn signal stalk, when self-canceling from a right turn, will drop too hard, and will turn on the left turn signal after the turn, causing confusion to not only the vehicle operator, but other drivers on the road. This has happened on multiple occasions.
