There was an electrical issue associated with a recall where while driving I had lost power to my dashboard and infotainment system on more than one occasion.

Call module not working correctly which leaves the gps in the vehicle inaccurate and presents a safety issue for vehicle location using sos. VW states it's a software issue and won't even evaluate it.
On the morning of September 27, 2024 while stopped at a retail store in Wake Forest, NC, the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 steering column module part #j764 failed without warning. The steering column locked up and would not unlock after many attempts. The vehicle’s drive systems were also impacted resulting in the drive units/gears to lock resulting in the car becoming inoperable until the unit is replaced. Contacted VW Customer Care on October 1 for repair assistance. At this time, VW believes consumers should be burdened with the cost to repair this failed critical component which is necessary for the car to function and operate.
The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V344000 (Back Over Prevention, Equipment, Electrical System); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the instrument panel frequently rebooted, causing the screen to go blank for an extended period. The local dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The vehicle remained with the dealer. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 100. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
On 9/17/2024 roughly at 10:00PM, while in the drive-thru picking up food, my Volkswagen ID.4 suddenly self-accelerated out of nowhere as I was slowly driving towards the window to pay for food. I was completely shocked—I’ve never experienced anything like this. I tried to react quickly, but the car surged forward and slammed into a large cement light post. The impact was hard, and the car is now severely damaged. What really shook me was that none of the safety features I’ve come to rely on worked—there was no automatic braking, late front collision warning, and despite the heavy impact, none of the airbags deployed. I ended up feeling all bruised and now have some severe mid-back pain. The thought that I could have easily been hurt more seriously, or worse, could have harmed someone else if this had happened in a crowded area, is traumatizing. This has made me completely lose trust in the vehicle’s safety systems. If the car can do this in such a low-risk situation, I can’t imagine what might happen in a more dangerous scenario. I brought up other safety concerns to Volkswagen that were completely dismissed.
NHTSA Recall Number 24V344 This recall has been open with no resolution, time frame to resolution, or any communication whatsoever from VW of America for over 18 weeks now. Fortunately for me this issue has only affected my vehicle a few times (I'd estimate 5-10 instances) but the lack of followup and attention from VW is becoming very disconcerting. When we purchased this car in 2023 VW had materials advertising quarterly software updates for continuous improvement and new features. Their inability to provide a single update in ~20 months, including now when a critical fix is needed, feels like a bait and switch.
Back right door opened up while driving through our neighborhood at slow speed turning onto another street a few months ago. at the time didn't think much of it and maybe just a fluke but it makes sense now that I know there's a door handle recall. also now our driver side outside door handle won't open as of a few days ago and our VW dealer doesn't know what's going on after trying to fix it and waiting for corporate to call them back. wanted to make sure this was reported in the event we have further issues and they cant repair it. thanks
I am writing to complain that VW has not offered any assistance or solution to the electronic software failure noted in NHTSA Recall # 24V344. I have been experiencing software and electrical failures that affect the center and dashboard displays. I have no speedometer or rearview camera display, no warning systems, no cruise control, etc. Also, the car periodically locks itself and won't allow me to enter the car with the key fob, and I have to leave the window open to open the car manually. The lack of a dashboard display of speed is dangerous. I brought the car to VW dealer who reset the software and that fixed the problem for one month and then the problems returned. VW claims it is a software problem but has not offered any software updates or repairs since it was first published as a recall in May 2024. My car is too dangerous to drive when this software failure occurs--which sometimes happens while driving nd immediately affects the drivability and safe operation of the car. When it happens, nearly all the warning lights and messages start blinking and cycling while driving. We need help with putting pressure on VW to offer a solution and repair of this serious operational issue.
Driver side door handle won't open but other doors do

Vehicle has an error stating: “Warning and Information not Available. Drive with greater care!” Key safety features including speedometer and back-up camera are not available. Issue is not due to delayed boot-up. Speedometer and cameras did not return during a long drive. Error remained after vehicle was shut off and restarted. See photos of error message and note lack of speedometer and cameras.
There is a recall on this vehicle and is very dangerous to drive. The screens go dark and we are unable to see how fast we are going. When this happens we also do not know if any of the safety features work. I have been told by the local VW dealer that as of right now there is no fix to this recall. I feel that VW should have better options for the consumer to be taken out of this vehicle. This is very dangerous and could really cause a lot of harm.

Display screen has blacked out on multiple occasions while driving. During these occurrences I have lost all visibility to vehicle speed, cruise control settings, backup camera, etc. When these issues occur, I am basically driving a vehicle with no feedback from these important safety systems. This is VERY dangerous and has caused me to almost get into an accident on two different occasions. Something needs to be done to address this issue ASAP as it is a serious risk to both the driver as well as other individuals that are out on the roadways. VW needs to resolve these issues immediately before someone is seriously injured or worse. Please help!
One week after buying the new car, the windshield cracked and quickly spread across the width of the car. There may have been a rock impact and I was on the highway. This is on a heated glass AWD Pro S model. It's apparently incredibly common for this to happen.

Both screens turn off while I’m driving 70+ mph on the highway therefore none of the features work like adaptive cruise or lane assist. It caused me to almost get into an accident a couple of times. Volkswagen says they won’t buy it back or fix it since it’s under the recall. I don’t know what to do. These cars are not safe for the road and are putting people’s lives at risk being driven.
The infotainment screens on the vehicle will randomly go blank, and when it reboots, will often freeze in the rebooting process. This prevents the driver and passengers from being able to see critical safety information on the center display and the driver's display, including the speedometer. Not being able to see the speedometer is a violation of Virginia code VA § 46.2-1080. Speedometer in good working order. so the vehicle is not able to be legally driven in Virginia according to the Virginia State Police and most other states with similar codes. The manufacturer, Volkswagen, is telling owners to continue driving the vehicle in violation of state law. The existing recall on this issue should be expanded to be a stop drive recall due to this safety defect.

The lane assist function on the vehicle routinely pulls the vehicle off the road when accelerating uphill. Driver has to fight with the steering wheel to keep it from being pulled out of the lane and off the road. This occurs regularly on clearly marked roads, both on freeways and two lane rural roads.
The contact owns a 2023 VW ID.4. The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 24V344000 (Back Over Prevention, Equipment, Electrical System) and 24V651000 (Structure). The contact stated that on several occasions while in reverse(R), the reverse camera worked intermittently. Additionally, on several occasions, while the vehicle was turned off, the rear door latches were pulled to open, the door handle was lifted, but the door failed to open as intended. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 3,000.
While backing out of my driveway onto our residential street the car died without warning and all information displays went blank for a moment and then all the warning lights came on. The car would not change gears and my car was obstructing the roadway. My children were in the backseat of the car. I pressed the start stop button on the dash and the car "rebooted". warning lights were gone. I took the vehicle into the dealership a few days later for a scheduled repair to the steering wheel. I informed them of the incident and asked them to inspect. They ran a diagnostic and determined that they needed to replace a module in the vehicle's electrical system. Once the repair was complete we retrieved the car. Less than seven days after picking up the "repaired" vehicle my husband was backing out of our driveway and the same thing happened - only this time he was still in the driveway. Our driveway has a slight slope and the car was behaving as though it was in neutral (rolling down the drive) with no ability to change gears. Warning lights indicating electrical system failure were on the dash. He had to open his door and start to exit the vehicle while depressing the brake pedal in order to get the car to turn off. We had the vehicle towed to the dealership. They had the car for over 45 days trying to diagnose and duplicate the issue. We were told that there were no error codes and that they could not duplicate the problem. In the end we initiated a buyback request from VW and w
On August 23, 2024, the car was parked at our home and turned off. It was not connected to the charger. At around 7:25pm Pacific time, I got into the driver's seat, closed the door, and depressed the brake pedal so I could put the car into Drive. While my foot was still on the brake, and the car was still in Park, the car lurched forward towards my husband, who was standing in front of the car. The car moved forward in a fast, jerking movement, less than 2 feet, before stopping on its own. My husband quickly moved to the other side of the alley way. Both console screens went black. I still never took my foot off the brake for fear that it would lurch forward again. I picked up my phone to film the screens to see if they would put up an error message or warning light. Just before I started filming the dashboard, the screen above the steering wheel came back on, but acted weird, with the gears disappearing from the right side of the screen completely around 12 second into the video. You can see in the video that I tried to put the car into gear, but as I move the gear shifter through the various gears it does nothing. My foot remained on the brake pedal the entire time up until the moment you see in the video, when I took my foot off of the brake and the car "restarted" itself, allowing me to get it into a gear again. My husband, or anyone else nearby, would have been severely injured if they had been standing closer to the vehicle when it lurched forward. I took the car to San
On occasion the car moves backward when I have it in Drive, and forward when I have it in Reverse. It commonly happens when doing a tight, 3 point turn. I noticed the issue shortly after I purchased the car in Mar '23 and first brought the car to the dealer for inspection after the 2nd time it happened in Jan '24. I've brought the car in many times for this and they cannot duplicate it or fix it (4 service records attached). There's no warning lights or error messages. I can visually see the gear shifter is in Drive, but when I put my foot on the accelerator the car moves backwards. It's the same when I visually see the gear shifter in Reverse, but the car moves forward. This has put my safety, the safety of my passengers, and the safety of people standing nearby at risk on multiple occasions. On one occasion, I was navigating a tight, multipoint u-turn, as I was trying to turn around between 2 large trees. My nephew stood outside the car waiting to get in. When I had enough clearance between the tree in back of me, and the back of my car, I put the car in Reverse to backup a few feet so that my nephew had enough space to open the passenger side door and get in. However, even though I had put the car in Reverse, it unexpectedly moved forward nearly pinning my nephew between the front of my car and the tree in front of me. I shouted at my nephew to step away from the car. I looked at the gear shifter again to ensure that I was in fact in Reverse, and then I tapped the accelera
In May '23 VW Manufacturer sent a letter informing my car was subject to Recall 57J4, for door handle failure which can lead to doors opening while vehicle is moving. 7/25/2 I brought my car to Steven’s Creek VW in San Jose, CA, for several issues that needed repair, and asked them to test for Recall 57J4. They found the left rear door handled failed and needed to be replaced (see attached service record). The repair was not performed that day because the part needed to be ordered, as did several other parts. I planned to return once all parts were in; several months passed, with no parts coming in. By Jan '24 the car was having many more problems, so I brought it back to the original dealer I purchased it at: Santa Cruz Volkswagen, Santa Cruz, CA. During the course of my many repairs at Santa Cruz VW I informed them that the door handle safety recall repair was never performed (see attached 5/6/24 service record). The Service Advisor said Santa Cruz VW couldn't do the repair, because the replacement part was VIN specific and that Volkwagen Manufucturer wouldn't send the replacement part because Steven’s Creek VW dealer had already ordered the part, and had also noted in their computer system that they performed the repair - which is false. I never returned to Steven’s Creek VW after 7/25/23, and they never performed the repair for recall 57J4, even though it is incorrectly noted in their computer system as having been repaired. (Steven’s Creek VW has acknowledged that this i
The entire dashboard goes blank and then sometimes resets and other times remains blank until the car is stopped. The speedometer is out as well as all the cameras.

When driving the vehicle the center display and dashboard display go black and do not reboot and because of this am not able to see any vehicle information like speed and back up camera making the vehicle unsafe to drive and are a greater risk of causing an accident. This is an active recall but car manufacturer has failed to resolve issue in a timely manner. This issue was first reported in May 2024.
Our VW ID.4 was leased in December 2023. The vehicle unexpectedly went into "turtle"mode or limp mode, which according to VW happens when the battery is very low. Notably, we had 80% of battery charge at the time (which is the optimum charge). Unexpectedly, the yellow turtle display came on and, worse, the vehicle lost power while driving. The speed was greatly reduced, the power was also greatly reduced. The car went from regenerative breaking to loss of regenerative breaking, while the center drive display still showed "B" for regenerative breaking. It was also almost not possible to drive up a small hill. The vehicle displayed 2 error messages (we have photos, also of the 80% battery charge, which we attach): 1. "Vehicle performance is limited. See owner's manual." 2. "Electrical system not working correctly. Safely stop the vehicle." Comment: In our opinion, the vehicle is not safe to drive. The unexpected reduction in speed and loss of power, paired with the loss of regenerative breaking, creates very dangerous conditions. It may not be possible to "Safely stop the vehicle". In addition, we have also lost the center display and dashboard display twice now, which we believe is mentioned in NHTSA Recall Number24V344. VW sent us a letter in July informing us that our vehicle is subject to this recall. Yes, we have experienced the issue, twice. It is even more scary, if this happens when the vehicle loses power unexpectedly on an 80% charge. It is unacceptable that VW states
The infotainment system continuously goes out on a daily basis and I have to reboot it every time, the rear camera will delay or not come on at all and I have to put the car in neutral then back to reverse to get it back on. The speedometer screen goes out constantly and won’t show how fast I am driving or my battery percent. I don’t get the mileage I’m suppose to get out of a charge, it automatically breaks when driving on highways for no reason. Sometimes the screen will go white and show code. This car is highly dangerous to the public and nobody is helping me get out of it. It’s a recall with no fix available and I can’t even get a loaner or anything.
On many occasions, I push the park button on the gear selector, and it does not go into park. I have become extremely deliberate on pressing the button AND making sure the screen illuminates that the vehicle is in park. On two occasions with myself driving and one occasion with my wife driving, the vehicle has moved forward unintentionally as a result.
There's two screens in the car. One displays speed and other functional items. The other one is the infotainment screen. In random occasions, BOTH screens go black for over a minute, meaning that the system reboots but it takes over a minute to start again, leaving the driver without any critical information while driving (speed, turn signals, warnings, etc).
Vehicle is under recall with no remedy. This is presenting a safety risk to me and my family.
Brakes do not work at random times. You go to stop and the brake pedal depresses all the way to the floor with the vehicle not stopping at all. This happens at random times, not all the time. The dealer said that they could not find anything wrong with it.
Pulling into parking lot of child's daycare, had foot on the break and then suddenly the car lunged forward and slammed into fence. had to forcefully slam on brakes to stop car Car is currently at the dealership for collision repair, waiting to see what the computer reports. Police report has been filed. Do not have at this time Newton MA police dept report #24032707 No warning messages or previous symptoms.
The rear passenger door got stuck and did not open while we were inside. My son tried to open it and it was just stuck. The other 3 doors in the car opened fine. I locked and unlocked/turned the child locks on and off/ turned the car on and off and nothing would open the door from the interior. My son was stuck. I recorded 3 minutes of all these things going on. Finally, I could open the door from the outside of the car. The door has been malfunctioning (not closing, opening on its own, or getting stuck) since I purchased the vehicle 18 months ago. The dealer initially refused to inspect bc they could not replicate but I started taking videos. One month ago they had replaced the latch and other components but it did not fix the problem. The car is back in service.
I have a Volkswagon ID4 that has the screen power go off while you are driving, VW says they have no idea when they will have a fix it, but they are aware. The safety features, including the emergency call, don't work, and no airbag lights come on either, everything appears to be disabled. On the highway this happens whenever with no warning. I do have videos of some of the incidents. Lane keep assist Etc does not work. It is 10 months old with 3k miles due to being afraid to drive it.,
When vehicle crosses an intersection it pulls vehicle into wrong direction. Mostly left to incoming traffic and I have to correct steering. Vehicle does not recognize road lines have stopped or different in an intersection
My car popped up a messaging stating “Electrical system not working correctly. Please service vehicle.” I called in for service and the dealer told me that the message was not urgent as it was a yellow message and that they would not be able to get me in until Tuesday. I continued to drive the car and the message would come and go for two days. On the last day, I got the message and heard an electrical whirring noise when pressing the accelerator. Then the sound and message went away. Later that evening when charging, the fans were running extremely loud so I got the car out of my garage to avoid it catching fire. I called VW who said that I could drive it to the dealer. I left my house and the car popped up the message and then said it was disabling functions. It never said to pull over. Then a turtle popped up and my speed was dropped to 45 mph. I was on a highway at the time and turned around to head back home. Then it dropped my speed to 25. Right after doing that it came to a stop in the middle of the road. It never said to pull over or avoid driving it either but I was stranded in the road. A few minutes later all the messages disappeared and it started driving normally. I made it home and called for a tow truck.
[XXX] [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] Julio 30, 2024 Volkswagen Customer Care Volkswagen Group of America 3800 Hamlin Road Auburn Hills, MI 48326 Dear Volkswagen Customer Care, I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the recent recall notice I received for my Volkswagen vehicle, VIN [XXX] 2023 VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 Due to the severe safety issues outlined in the recall, I have been unable to use the car, yet I am still making payments on it. Given that the necessary repairs are not currently available, I am understandably concerned about continuing to drive a vehicle that poses a risk to my safety. My attempts to resolve this issue through the dealership have unfortunately been unsuccessful, as they have not accepted the vehicle for return or provided a satisfactory resolution. Given these circumstances, I am requesting a resolution to this matter. Specifically, I seek the following: Return and Refund: I wish to return the vehicle and receive a full refund of all payments made to date, considering that I am unable to use the car due to safety concerns and the unavailability of repairs. Additional Compensation: Compensation for any inconvenience or costs incurred as a result of this situation, including but not limited to, rental car expenses or loss of use. If Volkswagen is unable to address this matter promptly, I will have no choice but to pursue legal action for product liability and negligence. I hope to avoid this course of action and resolve the issue amicably. Please contact me

Upon stoping the vehicle, unlatching the seatbelt and with the ignition off you need to pull the door handle 2 to 5 times before the door opens to allow you to exit. The vehicle never allows exiting on one pull. Dealer said no problem found and it’s operating normally but this is a daily occurrence.
Was stationary in dense traffic, all waiting for a local bridge to open. We had been waiting for 10 or so minutes. Had braked and stopped close to car in front, car in Auto Hold. All of a sudden, my car accelerated quickly into stationary car in front, twice I believe, before I was able to brake and turn car off. I do not know why this happened or whether there were any warnings. Affected my car, car in front of me, and car in front of them. No one hurt, my car front rather damaged, perhaps $12,000+, car in front damaged front and rear. We were able to drive away, but my car not safe to drive. Is currently parked and waiting to be towed once collision shop space is available. I have not taken to dealer to test as is not safe to drive. No one has inspected in person yet.
- The front passenger door unlatched at speed while driving around 30 mph. The vehicle is currently with a Volkswagen dealership and is confirmed and replicated. - The safety of the passenger seated in the front passenger seat is at risk if the door were to fully open, as well as any objects in the door’s way. - The problem HAS been reproduced or confirmed by a Volkswagen dealership in June 2024 and had the affected door handle replaced. - The vehicle and component has NOT been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. - There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, only after the door was opened was there a notification (chime and message) of an open door.

Steering wheel has capacitive touch control for cruise controls and other options. While turning in corners or exiting from highways unknowingly capacitive controls are getting activated and it sets the speed to highway cruise speed limit or previous cruise speed, creating a panic situation. It is a safety issue and potentially crashes. I have avoided 10 different instances so far. It has to be recalled for this issue and fix has to be done for this.
On 7/21/23 around 10 am the screens went blank, had no speed or info displayed , after 2 days the screens came back on 7/23/24
Infotainment and gauge cluster display are blank, unable to see vehicle info, back-up camera and speedometer.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
