Vehicle: 2022 Volkswagen Atlas 2.0T (VIN: [XXX] ), current mileage: . Failure: The engine water pump / integrated thermostat housing failed due to a coolant leak. I first noticed coolant odor and dried pink/white residue around the pump area on //. Coolant level dropped between services and I observed active seepage. Dealer diagnosis on // confirmed failed water pump/thermostat module and recommended replacement. Frequency/Progression: Began as a slow weep that progressed to an active leak. Coolant requires top-offs; leak is visible after parking. Safety risk: Sudden coolant loss can cause engine overheating and potential stalling while driving, creating a crash hazard and risk of engine damage. Context: This appears to be the same EA888 2.0T water-pump/thermostat leak pattern documented across VW/Audi vehicles; VW previously extended coverage to 8 yrs/80k miles for many 2014–2021 models in a settlement, but 2022 Atlas is not listed—leaving similar failures unaddressed. (Request ODI review for potential broader coverage.) Attachments/Proof: Photos of residue and leak, dealer repair order/estimate for pump module, service history, and receipts (upload available). Ask: Please record this as a safety-related cooling-system defect and consider investigation given recurrence on EA888 vehicles. The oil light often comes on due to low oil inbetween oil changes. This has happened ever since the car was new. I always stop at a local auto parts store and add more oil, but there are no noticeable oil leaks. This is a dangerous issue as it could cause overheating especially if not near a auto parts store. I also always carry extra oil in the back of my vehicle.
Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2022 Volkswagen Atlas. The contact discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy after the purchase. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 29,000. It was later discovered that the mileage was 56,279.
While under warranty the passenger side headlamp unit was replaced. This was about one year ago- now the drive side has gone out on a car that is less than 3 years old. The dealership quoted me $1792.33 for this repair. There is no reason why these should be going out when they are LED. I am part of a facebook group for ATLAS owners and this a known issue. I see the daylight running light on multiple ATLAS vehicles daily when I am driving around town. This should be a recall.
We were driving on a highway with no cars anywhere near us, did not go under a bridge, outside was sunny and calm weather in the 75 degree range, and our panoramic sunroof suddenly exploded outwards. Glass shattered everywhere and it sounded like a bomb went off in the car. After immediately getting off on an exit ramp to survey what happened, the remaining glass was pushed up and outwards towards the sky proving that nothing hit the sunroof. Our Volkswagen dealership told us to bring it in and they would put it under warranty for a mechanical defect as the panoramic sunroof is the roof of the vehicle. After waiting weeks, Volkswagen corporate denied the warranty claim saying we must have done something to weaken the glass at a previous time. There were no previous issues with the sunroof and this explosion happened very suddenly. Young children were in the vehicle and it was terrifying.
Daytime running lights are both inoperable. This is a known issue with these vehicles. Both went out at the same time and are $2000 to replace. It’s a robbery.
My Volkswagen Atlas has a recurring check engine light and start/stop error light. The LD pump and valve have been replaced multiple times, but the issue persists. Volkswagen now says the problem is the carbon canister, which is covered by TSB VWP-23-04 (NHTSA ID MC-10235143-0001) extending warranty to 15 years/150,000 miles. The bigger concern is safety: the vehicle has stalled multiple times while driving, including once in an intersection where I completely lost steering and control until the car was towed. This creates a major safety hazard for myself and others on the road. Despite the TSB coverage, Cardinale Volkswagen in Salinas, CA is refusing to replace the carbon canister under warranty. They also charged me a $240 diagnostic fee, even though the issue diagnosed was later found to be warranty-related. My understanding is that diagnosis and repair of warranty defects should be performed at no cost. This is a clear safety defect: sudden stalling in traffic, loss of steering, and repeated failures of emission-related parts. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate these incidents and Volkswagen’s handling of warranty claims, as drivers are being put at risk of accidents, injury, or worse.
Brakes are squealing and grinding noises when i break. This noises are present no matter the speed. VW Dealership from Kearny Mesa VW, San Diego, California USA. Engine: Start/Stop does shutdown during driving after the autostop system. Electric: Sensors is causing false alerts. I deactivated the system, because the system is constantly detecting alerts for no real threats,
The vehicle will completely stop at a red light or in park. Today while in traffic, the car turned completely off. I had to manually restart the car.
The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Atlas. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 MPH, and pressed the brakes when suddenly the second row passenger side captain seat erroneously moved forward. The [XXX] child seated in a high-back booster seat in the second row passenger seat was pushed forward into the rear of the front passenger seat. The child had become trapped between the two seats. While trapped between the seats, the child also experienced distress caused by the seatbelt. The contact was able to free the child from between the two seat,s and the seat was eventually correctly repositioned. The child was later treated for trauma to the chest and abdomen. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 50,000. The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Atlas. The contact stated that while stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle experienced a loss of automotive power, and the vehicle failed to start. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that after several attempts, the vehicle restarted and the contact drove to a parking lot, and then the vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the fuel pump was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 77,048.
Vehicle stalls at low speeds or at a stop while ldling. Requires car be put in park to restart. Dealerships unable duplicate. Issue is occurring with greater frequency. Causing an unsafe condition driving in traffic.
ENGINE RANDOMLY STOPS WHILE DRIVING, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, WARNING SAYS TO MANUALLY RESTART ENGINE. HAPPENS WITH AUTO START/STOP ON OR OFF. LASTEST INCIDENT, WHILE ENTERING AN INTERSECTION TURNING LEFT, ENGINE STOPPED, SAID TO MANUALLY RESTART, STEERING LOCKED UP SO COULD NOT STEER THE VEHICLE. THIS PARTICULAR INCIDENT WAS VERY DANGEROUS PUT ME IN THE MIDDLE OF A LOT OF TRAFFIC, IN AN INTERSECTION. CAR IS BASICALLY UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT THIS POINT. HAD IT TOWED.
The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Atlas. The contact stated that while at a stoplight with vehicles in the front and rear, the vehicle suddenly accelerated, lunged forward, and crashed into a Chevrolet pickup truck. The brake pedal was applied but failed to respond. There were no warning lights illuminated. There were reported injuries, a police report, airbag deployment, or a fire. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, who was unable to service the vehicle due to parts. The vehicle was towed to an auto body shop. Then towed back to the same local dealer, where an unknown diagnosis and repair were completed. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The manufacturer reported that the vehicle was not the cause of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000. The VIN was not available.
When driving my 2022 VW Atlas at low speeds (stopping at a red light, backing down my driveway, and slowing for yield zones), the vehicle either 1) shudders to a stop and presents "please start engine manually" message or 2) appears to turn off using the start/stop system, but then presents the "please start engine manually" message. Dealer replaced a fuel injector the first time, charged the battery a second time, and now a third time this is happening with no resolution, as "the technician was unable to replicate the issue." This is all within about a 12-month timeframe. This has put my children and me at risk driving on roads with 60 mph speed limits with stop lights, because if the light turns green and I'm trying to restart the vehicle, someone from behind could hit me. The dealer was able to replicate the issue the first visit it was brought in for.
I am reporting a recurring coolant system issue that raises safety concerns. My 2022 VW Atlas has triggered the coolant warning light several times since new. A dealership eventually replaced the head gasket under warranty, yet the warning returned again months later. At the most recent service visit, a pressure test showed no leak, and I was told the problem was likely "air bubbles" — the same explanation I received before the head gasket was replaced. VW has issued TSB 19-22-01, advising dealers to blame repeated warnings on trapped air and to avoid replacing parts unless a leak is confirmed. This contradicts VW’s own official dashboard warning guidance, which instructs drivers to “Stop! Engine coolant level too low, engine coolant temperature too high, or engine coolant system malfunction” and “Do not drive.” This creates a conflict: VW tells customers a coolant warning is urgent and dangerous, while internally telling dealers to do nothing unless symptoms worsen. Meanwhile, owners are left driving vehicles that could overheat, stall, or fail without proper diagnosis. I request NHTSA investigate whether this approach allows VW to underreport or delay addressing a possible defect. I am concerned about the safety and reliability of this vehicle and the potential for this issue to affect other Atlas owners.
My atlas forward collision system malfunctioned causing the automatic emergency braking to turn on when there was no one and nothing in front of me. I was then rear ended. Which ultimately totaled my vehicle. My car said airbag error as well. I called Volkswagen Perrysburg Ohio, to report the incident, was sent to the managers voicemail 7/16/2025. The manager never called me back.
The engine shut-off while still driving between 10-15 mph when entering a gas station and turning uphill. Cannot say for certain, but the vehicle behaved similar to when the "start-stop" engine system activates. Electrical seemingly remained on, could not accelerate, and the dashboard requested something along the lines of needing to "restart." Similar scenario occurred the day prior but this time we were completely stopped. Came to a stop, attempted to accelerate, and the dashboard was referencing the same warning as above. This could clearly cause a major accident especially when it occurs while still moving at a respectable speed. VW offers a switch to turn off this system, but the system does not keep the setting once the vehicle is turned off. It automatically activates upon ignition. Ironically, the failure of unwanted & over-complicated engineering cannot be permanently switched off by the vehicle remembering the last setting unless you wish to spend $100 from a third-party. Hopefully my wife remembers to press the magic button every time she turns on the vehicle.
Error: Airbag and the passenger airbag isn’t working. There is a recall for the atlas but my vin isn’t in there. No recall for the brakes but they are in a class action lawsuit and they are squeeling, vibrate and feel like they won’t stop. Dealership claims nothing wrong. But my car I traded in didn’t feel like this. Vw need to take action before accidents happen.
UNKNOWN - bought vehicle last year. The right passenger headlight LED strip went out which ended up costing $1600. The drivers side headlight LED strip just went out, which is going to cost me another $1600. Looking online, it looks like many other VW Atlas owners are experiencing the same issues, all within 20-60k miles of having their vehicles. There needs to be a safety recall for these headlights. To have to pay $1600 to get this fixed is absolutely ridiculous. The only way to fix the LED strips is to replace the entire headlight which is why they're charging so much money to do so.
The passenger air bag has a faulty sensor and the instrument cluster has an intermittent warning with audible chime. We are unable to use the vehicle for safe transportation and we are intermittently bombarded with the chime while driving. The dealership cannot repair until July 3 and does not offer any alternative transportation in the mean time or any loaner during repair. We have contacted VW Customer Care and they refuse to do anything about it. They have directed us to the dealership. We are unable to get around as a family currently due to this issue. There is an active recall for this issue.
Loud metallic grinding sound when braking is present all the time. The dealer indicated that this is normal for the VW Atlas. However, the issue is that the driver will never know when the brake is functioning properly compared to the sound that often indicates worn-out brake pads (where the metal backing plate is scraping against the rotor). This could cause a collision if not properly fixed.
Our anti-theft alert kept being triiggered. doors on vehicle would not lock. normally while driving vehicle at around 10 mph the doors of the vehicle would automatically lock but now they will not lock. i tried to manually lock by pushing the lock button but no luck. Driving down the highway at the posted speed limit of 75 mph you could open the driver door ,front passenger door and both backseat doors. I took it to the VW dealership and the Asst service manager said it was a software issue and corrected it. Vehicle worked for about 6 weeks then we got the anti-theft alert and doors would not lock and going down the highway you could open. took back to VW dealership and they said it was a front door latch ,part number 5K1-837-015-J, was failing internally and was replaced and erased the faults. at the first incident vehicle had just over 52K miles and the repair it had 59245 miles. my biggest complaint it would allow you to open the vehicle while driving and if in a wreck all doors could potentially come open on impact
When the vehicle is at a stop or slowing maybe to park the engine shuts down. I get a start/stop error and it indicates I must restart the car manually. I then have to put the car in park and restart the vehicle. This has happened while the vehicle was in motion and in major city traffic. The vehicle displays a check engine light now. It is currently at the dealership being serviced.
Since the car was purchased brand new, I have had severe brake grinding noises, brake grabbing, and inconsistent braking at both slow and high speeds. I've taken to the dealership many times to have the brakes checked and told each time the noise is a common complaint. I have requested the brakes be further inspected and one time the brakes were measured and was told it was within normal wear when the car had less than 15,000 miles. The noises and inconsistency of brakes makes it unsafe to operate.
Error start/stop, vehicle has been stalling while moving at a slow speed or while idle, sitting in a drivethru ordering food, pulling into parking spot or turning off of the road at the light. The vehicle stalls out you have to put it in park to restart . Very dangerous especially while in the road. Just purchased vehicle February 3rd 2025, have had other issues very same night ,check left taillight kept coming on, but taillight not out, took to dealership ery next morning, they stated could not duplicate, nothing they can do, it is still doing it. Brakes when backing out started making a noise now too.
Vehicle randomly sputters and stalls out coming to a stop. Dash displays Please Manually Restart Engine. Auto start stop is deactivated. No CEL. Freeze frame data shows multiple misfires and a P050700 freeze frame data code. Car was just serviced for 30k including a top end treatment.
Steering gear failed twice i have the first one make my car shake so bad and second it makes horrible noise every time i moved the steering wheel . Both front head light led failed for the day running light. Car has misfiring problems with spark plugs and injectors making driving unpredictable and engine start shaking out of nowhere and epc (electronic power control )light comes on
Volkswagen doesn’t have a repair for the front passenger airbag not going off due to a sensor failure. Customers such as myself were made aware in June of the issue and there is STILL no fix!!!
Vehicle stalling at intersections and is very dangerous. Took vehicle to VW dealership and even though they know and told me the problem was the carbon canister they are unable to repair due to no check engine light or the ability to replicate during there 5 minute test drive. This vehicle need repaired before it causes my family to be involved in an accident and they are refusing even though they know the problem.
Vehicle stalls at Idle or close to Idle. It's very dangerous as this could happen in an intersection leading to a collision. When I contacted VW they are completely aware of the issue, Know the part to fix and have even given the part an extended warranty. However, this will still not help if it causes an accident or injury to my family! According to VW of America, and the Dealership it's the Carbon Canister that is causing this problem. If this has not been a factor in an accident yet it certainly will be . Please address this issue immediately.
Significant brake noise issues (grinding, squeaking, and gurgling sounds). it does feel inconsistent braking. This issue is a constant driving problem every day. I requested a car inspection at Kearny Mesa Volkswagen (8040 Balboa Ave, San Diego, CA 92111). They stated this was normal for this car (Atlas), and I just needed to brake harder. This is not normal to be driving with this issues and brings family safety concerns and an ultimate high repair in the future for lacking of customer services from Volkswagen
The first issue at 26k miles when the coolant light turned on. It was a broken head gasket which required the replacement of the full motor on the vehicle. After the motor was replaced, the vehicle had to be taken back to the dealership that completed the work on 3 different occasions for installation concerns including a loose bolt and low coolant levels. The second issue at 33k miles was the failure of the charcoal canister which ruined the fuel tank lining, resulting a replacement of the fuel tank. This issue caused the car to stall anytime it was idle (if I was in traffic and not able to accellerate or in a parking lot going slowly, it would stall requiring it to be put into park and restarted. This issue was a huge safety concern since my car would shut down in traffic. No indicator lights came on during this issue. Next, at 37k miles, I smelled terrible gas fumes each time the car idled. At one point, when blowing my nose, I had black soot residue, so I can't imagine what I was breathing or the risk of the vehicle catching fire with such strong fumes. I had to take the car in twice before they took me seriously. The car had broken O rings from the engine replacement. No indicator lights came on for this issue either. Last week, we received the car back after 33 days in the shop for ANOTHER broken head gasket. Within a day of getting the car back, it misfired and the check engine light was on again. The car does not accellerate correctly which poses a safety risk when tr
1. Noise from the Front End - Shortly after purchasing the vehicle, I noticed a persistent noise coming from the front end while driving. I reported this issue to the dealership within the first 30 days of ownership, but they were unable to identify or resolve the problem on multiple occasions. Eventually, I took the vehicle to Dublin Volkswagen, where the issue was diagnosed, but I had to pay $80 out-of-pocket for the diagnostic fee. 2. Stalling Issue - The vehicle has been sporadically stalling, which initially led me to believe it was related to the auto stop/start feature. However, I later discovered that this is a recurring issue reported by other Volkswagen Atlas owners [XXX] ). This stalling issue has occurred multiple times, even to my brother during his visit from Canada. Given that this vehicle is used to transport children and other passengers, this is a serious safety concern and liability risk. Picture of message that pops up when the issue occurs. 3. Brake Performance Problems - The brakes have been squealing and exhibit shaking and grinding during use after sitting for different periods of time. Despite contacting the dealership (Dorito Brothers Volkswagen) numerous times about this issue, I have been repeatedly dismissed by their service advisors, technicians and manager. Their lack of attention to detail and unwillingness to address my concerns has eroded my confidence in their ability to service the vehicle properly. I was also informed that Volkswagen would
The engine stalled and I was given the “please start engine manually”. The button for it to turn off at stopping was off. Completely stalled and I have to put in park and restart the vehicle. This has happened on 2 different occasions. Once at an intersection and once in a parking garage
We have encountered two recalls (one that we are still expecting a fix for) and multiple issues with our VW Atlas that we purchased new in June 2022
The auto start function shuts my car off when I am stopped for a certain amount of time and will not turn back on. The first time it happened I was 10/7/2024 at a stop light in traffic and took it to the dealership to only be told it was a battery issue. I got the battery replaced and have since experienced the issue 3 more times. The night before Thanksgiving at midnight I was stopped on a hill where I could not shift my car in neutral. I had to sit on the road for 40 minutes before I could get my car back on. On the back country roads going to work(12/14), I again experienced the car shutting off at a stop light in the middle lane. I called the dealership to set up an appointment. They said they ran a diagnostic test on the car and only found the battery needed to be replaced. Nothing else. No matter where I am if I fail to manually turn off the auto start feature I risk my car randomly shutting off on me and not turning back on. I have maintained the maintenance on my car. There are no lights on until the auto start stops my car from turning on I will get an EPC light. Once the car sits for a while, I can start my car and the light doesn’t come back on. This is a major issue and I believe this is truly a manufacturing issue that should be resolved immediately.
The PODs system is still hasn't been repaired since the recall was announced in June. I was told a fix was coming in August, but to no avail. I haven't been able to have someone in the passenger seat of the car since the recall.
Frontal detection sensors randomly go off usually while sitting stationary at traffic lights or stop signs, when there are no cars around the vicinity of my vehicle. Screen displays false detections and alerts with annoying beeps making you think something is going to collide with you. Dealership says there's an internal TSB on this problem, but they don't know how to fix it.
I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the recurring brake issues I have experienced with my 2022 Volkswagen Atlas. On December 23, 2023, I took my vehicle to the Alexandria VW dealership in Virginia due to a water-gargling sound that turned out to be related to the brakes. The dealer recommended replacing the brake pads, which I agreed to, at a cost of $700. However, in October 2024, less than a year later, the same issue reoccurred. The same dealership is now recommending that I replace the brake pads again. When I questioned the short lifespan of the brake pads, I was told that modern brake pads typically last less than a year due to California brake laws. This explanation does not seem reasonable, as brake pads should generally last much longer under normal conditions. Furthermore, I believe there may be an underlying issue with the brake system that has not been adequately addressed, leading to this premature wear. I am very disappointed with the quality of service and the lack of a permanent solution to this issue. I kindly request: A thorough investigation into the cause of the recurring brake problem. A permanent fix for the issue, or guidance on how to proceed if the vehicle cannot be repaired to meet reasonable standards. Reimbursement or compensation for the repeated cost of brake pad replacement, if applicable. I need your assistance for this matter. Thank you!
Since I've had this car in 2022, it continues to misfire and decelerate randomly. Car starts shaking violently and slows down while in traffic causing me to have to figure out a way to get to the side of the road and turn the car off for a while. Vehicle has been taken in various times about this issue since purchase with no resolution. I usually get an Error: Start/Stop message, EPC light and sometimes the check engine light will come on. The dealer states that they couldn't reproduce the problem but when I had an oil change and they had the car running it happened, I called a tech to look at it and he just cut the car off. He says if you cut it off and it starts again, you're good. Except I am not good, the car isn't reliable. Every time they fix something, something else breaks but nothing can be done about this issue. Happens randomly but sometimes more often. Multiple times a day.
I was made aware of this recall in June of 2024. I called to schedule my car and when I showed up was told the repair was not available. I was told when the letter was mailed in August I could get my vehicle repaired and advised not to use the front passenger seat. I tried calling again in August and was told still no repair available and "don't use the front passenger seat". I most recently called in November of 2024. Our local dealer told us no repair was available and to call VW's 1800 number. The local dealer also gave misinformation about the recall and when I asked they told me they didn't know. I called VW customer service and was told my car is in wave 3. I asked for reasoning about why my car is in wave 3 and they couldn't give any explanation. When I asked when wave 3 repairs would be available, they didn't have an answer. I was told wave 1 and wave 2 had started but there was no ETA for wave 3 to start and to not use the front passenger seat. This car is our family car. We have enough seatbelts in the car for each person in the family. We have been told for close to 6 months now not to use our primary mode of transportation with no reasoning on why we are in wave 3 and no estimate for a repair to be made. I requested to speak with a supervisor and was denied. I also reached out through the Facebook page of VW and received similar information. (No idea why you are in wave 3 and no ETA on a fix).
While driving, the steering wheel warning light briefly flashed on my dashboard and then disappeared. Later, it came back on and stayed illuminated. A few minutes after that, my car caught fire, which spread to my garage and caused significant damage to my house.
Dear National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, I am writing to formally express my concern about the ongoing recall on my 2024 Volkswagen Atlas due to a faulty airbag issue. This recall, which I was notified of in June 2024, has yet to be resolved, and Volkswagen has not provided any timeline for a fix. This unresolved issue is significantly impacting my family’s safety and quality of life. As this is our only vehicle, we rely on it daily to transport our children to school and ourselves to work. However, I am deeply anxious every time we drive it, especially with my husband in the passenger seat, knowing that Volkswagen cannot guarantee the airbags will function properly in the event of a crash. I contacted Volkswagen directly and asked for reassurance regarding the safety of the airbags, but they were unable to confirm that the system would not pose a danger in an accident. To make matters worse, Volkswagen has offered no support—such as a loaner vehicle or temporary replacement—despite the serious nature of the recall. Selling the vehicle is also not an option, as the unresolved recall renders it practically unsellable. This situation has left me feeling trapped and worried for my family’s safety. I respectfully urge the NHTSA to investigate this matter further and ensure Volkswagen addresses this recall with the urgency it demands. Families like mine should not be left in limbo for months on end with no resolution in sight. Thank you for your time and attention to t
This safety recall has been open for quite some time. I feel unsafe driving with anyone in the passenger seat. When I contacted VW, they simply informed me that a remedy is not yet available. VW says that owners should avoid use of the front passenger seat if possible until the recall repairs have been made.
The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Atlas. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the daytime running lights failed to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the lights were not operating as designed. The contact was informed that the front driver’s side headlight unit needed to be replaced. The headlight unit was replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure; however, no assistance was provided. The contact was referred to the dealer to pay for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. Additionally, the contact received notification on NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V464000 (AIR BAGS); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and confirmed that the part was not yet available. The failure mileage was 56,000. VIN too confirms parts not available.
I have owned this vehicle for not even a year and bought it as a family car. It only has 24k miles. I have had consistent problems with it since the purchase. The vehicle has shut off SIX times while I've been driving. The first time I was stopped at a stop light when my car shut off. I took it in for service and VW said they couldn't "replicate the issue" so they wouldn't do anything. It has shut off five more times since then. A few of the incidents I wasn't even stopped at a stoplight but was breaking to slow down and the car shut off. My airbag warning also pops on and off all the time. It dings constantly. I took it in for service and they told me the item was being recalled and there is no fix. I now cannot have passengers in my family vehicle. I have now learned that the car has oil leaking onto the engine. This vehicle is in warranty, so at least I won't have to pay for it but it is the most unreliable car I have ever owned. I have a five year old Subaru that has not had a single problem. I do not feel safe driving my Atlas, and I do not feel safe putting my child in it. I need to get a new reliable vehicle but I have a loan on the atlas. I feel stuck in a death trap. I will never buy a VW again.

Vehicle was left parked over the weekend and on Tuesday I went to start the car and got errors of a low coolant. Vehicle suffered a massive coolant leak just sitting on the weekend. Two year old vehicle with 27K miles.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
