Defect. Polaris Industries, Inc. (Polaris) is recalling certain 2010-2017 Victory Cross Country, Cross Country Tour, Cross Roads, Magnum, and Hard Ball motorcycles. If the engine misfires, continued riding may result in heat from the catalytic converter melting the rear brake line and nearby wiring.

Risk. A melted rear brake line can reduce braking performance, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Polaris will notify owners, and dealers will re-route the brake line away from the exhaust catalyst, free of charge. The recall began on November 8, 2017. Owners may contact Polaris customer service at 1-877-737-7172. Polaris' number for this recall is V-17-02.

PURCHASED THIS THE BIKE WOULD GO FOR PERIODS OF TIME WITHOUT STALLING THEN IT STARTED STALLING NOT ONLY WHEN YOU TOOK OFF FROM A STOP, BUT WHEN YOU SHIFTED GEARS UP OR DOWN SHIFTS, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN, LEFT WAS MORE OFTEN. AT THE END OF NOVEMBER 2012 I WAS ALMOST IN AN ACCIDENT WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN, THE BIKE COUGHED THROUGH THE THROTTLE BODIES AND DIED. AN ON COMING CAR ALMOST HIT ME. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER IN MY AREA AS OPPOSED TO THE DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM BECAUSE THEY WERE OUT OF BUSINESS. MY LOCAL DEALER ASKED ME WHAT I WANTED THEM TO DO, AND I DISCUSSED MY PROBLEM AND THEY PUT IT ON THE COMPUTER WHICH TOLD THEM THEY COULDN'T ADJUST THE ECM BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE AN AUTHORIZATION CARD THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN TO ME AT TIME PURCHASE. I ASKED THEM IF THEY COULD GET THE CARD AND THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER THAT I BOUGHT IT FROM. ANYWAY THEY COULDN'T OR WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I CALLED VICTORY AND THEIR ON;Y ANSWER WAS "TAKE IT TO A DEALER" I TOLD THEM I NO LONGER HAD A DEALER AS THE ONE I BOUGHT IT FROM WAS OUT OF BUSINESS AND MY LOCAL ONE HAD DROPPED THE VICTORY LINE DUE TO HORRIBLE CUSTOMER AND DEALER SERVICES. FINALLY FOUND A DEALER THAT WOULD GET THE CARD AND RE-FLASH THE ECM, THE DEALER WAS ALMOST 100 MILES FROM MY HOME. THEY DID THE WORK, WHICH I WAS THANKFUL FOR BUT I STILL HAD THE PROBLEM. AFTER MANY ATTEMPTS TO GET THE BIKE REPAIRED BY VICTORY I TOOK IT TO AN INDEPENDENT SHOP AND THEY MADE SOME ADJUSTMENTS THAT H

Reading this record

No unusual pattern of severe incidents in the complaint record.

Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.

Recall repairs are free for as long as the recall stands. Check whether a specific car still has open work at NHTSA's VIN lookup.
