Occasionally when accelerator is pressed at a stop sign or light there is hesitation before the engine rpms increase. Also happens frequently going up my steep driveway at under 5mph, at half to 3/4 up my 100 yard driveway it will just almost stall out to an idle for a few seconds then will continue on as nothing happened

Fuel/Propulsion System

Truck has hesitation when throttle is pressed. Worse when cold and/or when truck starts nose down from a stop. Dangerous when pulling into traffic.

Vehicle Speed Control
Filed Jan 13, 2025PA

The vehicle has a delay in the throttle in some situations immediately following a deceleration. For example, when braking onto a yielding on ramp to check for traffic while coming to a near stop then pressing the throttle there is an obvious lag. That second or so of lag often results in the tires spinning due to a spike in throttle. In more than one instance I've experienced it from a dead stop but this is not as common as a slow deceleration to a roll.

The vehicle's accelerator consistently fails to respond when entering traffic from a stop or a rolling stop. Toyota attempted to remedy the problem with a TSB, but the problem returned within a week.

Throttle response is delayed intermittently. When proceeding from a stop or slow speed the truck will randomly have delayed acceleration. Then all of the sudden begins to accelerate with greater power and breaks the rear wheels free.

When accelerating from a stop, occasionally my truck has a delay in acceleration. Typically worse when cold and consistantly reproducable within 5 minutes of cold start. My concern is primarily when turning into traffic on cold mornings. Earlier this week the delay seemed to be 2 or 3 seconds and I had to make a split-second decision to not pull out when previously I had plenty of space to get across the intersection. I have been experiencing this since I purchased the vehicle with ~24k miles on the odometer (currently more than 50k). The vehicle was brought to the dealership for inspection on this issue 2 times while under warranty. Dealer states they were unable to reproduce, but asked I leave the vehicle with them for an extended period of time (several days) for diagnosis, but without the option for a loaner car to cover my travels. I declined because it was my only vehicle at the time.

2022 Tundra, especially when the engine is cold, has issues accelerating well beyond what would be expected with "Turbo lag". On several occasions when entering a roundabout from a dead stop, the engine does not have any responsiveness at all (extends for several seconds), requiring the driver to release and re-engage the pedal. This creates a safety issue. The date reported on 12/30/24 is the most recent instance, but happens routinely.

Vehicle Speed Control
Filed Jan 11, 2025NY

Occasionally (more frequently when cold) the vehicle does not accelerate from a stop or rolling stop. You depress the accelerator pedal and nothing happens, the vehicle does not accelerate. After a few seconds the vehicle will sometimes catch and rapidly accelerate and other times you have to release the pedal and depress the pedal again.

When coming to a stop, then pressing on the gas, the truck does not move. Its a dead gas pedal for approximately 2-4 seconds and then the truck takes off. Say i am trying to turn right at a light, then go to press on the gas, there is hesitation from the truck. I have brought this issue several times since i got the truck, a TSB from toyota was performed but the problem consistently persists. It does not happen everytime when coming from a stop but it is noticeable. Its a safety concern due to possibly being hit on the side when trying to merge into traffic.

I knew this was coming but I'm stunned by this notice and that NHTSA lets Toyota get away with this. Note the bolded warning in the attached notice. Sounds pretty serious and potentially catastrophic. I called the dealer on January 4th. I'm the third one to call into this dealership for this recall. They have no ETA on the replacement engine. So, I guess I should just continue to drive the truck and hope the engine doesn't seize while I'm going down the freeway? Wouldn't it make sense for NHTSA to direct Toyota to provide "us" with a loaner until the vehicle is repaired? Toyota and NHTSA may incur huge liability costs even if only one truck crashes because of this serious failure in workmanship. Every time I use the truck my "safety or the safety of others is put at risk." No kicking the can down the road NHTSA! Toyota screwed up BIG TIME! NHTSA needs to step up and protect consumers before something happens (again?).

There is a hesitation when applying a gas pedal after a stop or rolling stop. This is a safety issue when trying to merge into traffic as the small delay in acceleration can cause an accident. The dealer stated that this is normal operation for the vehicle.

THROTTLE LAG WHEN PRESSING GAS PEDAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MULITIPLE OCCASIONS. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING WHEN I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. NO WARNING LIGHTS INDICATING THIS. I FEAR THAT IF THIS DOES NOT GET FIXED MY FAMILY AND I WILL BE SEVERLEY INJURED OR MAY END UP DEAD. I TOOK IT TO 2 TOYOTA DEALERS. ONE IN SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS AND ONE IN DEL RIO, TEXAS THEY BOTH SAID, "WE SEE NOTHING WRONG. AND TO BRING IT IN WHEN IT STARTS HAPPENING AGAIN." ALSO THEY STATED THAT TOYOTA HAS NOT SENT ANY RECALLS OUT FOR THIS SO THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING TO HELP.

When stopped at a traffic light waiting to make a left turn, I accelerated to start the turn. The truck moved forward slightly and stopped. All throttle response was gone and I was not able to move from the intersection and oncoming traffic. About 4 seconds later the throttle response returned and it drove normally. I was almost hit by an oncoming car for being stopped in the road. This occurs frequently at stop signs when I stop and go to accelerate. It is dangerous to not know if the truck will respond or not while turning in traffic.

The low-pressure warning light illuminated with a message to turn off the engine displayed. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and had the vehicle towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure. The dealer informed the contact that failure might be related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V381000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, after reaching out to the manufacturer, the manufacturer denied coverage under the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called a local dealer, Mitchell Toyota (1500 Knickerbocker Rd, San Angelo, TX 76904); who had the vehicle towed to the location. The second dealer informed the contact that there was a 2 to 3-month wait for a replacement engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 37,500.

Vehicle has throttle lag when pushing the accelerator. Multiple times since owning vehicle, when pushing the accelerator pedal the engine/vehical doesn’t accelerate. This normally is from a complete stop situation. I have never seen any dashboard warning lights regaurding this issue. This has created on more than a handful of occasions myself and other occupants to be put in danger. I have not had a dealer look at this issue nor have any other agencies been involved. I do believe Toyota is aware of this but have not taken my vehical in for them to look at it.

Vehicle had 11,000 miles on it and just was serviced at the dealership the day before. I was stopped in the middle turn lane trying to turn left. I hit the gas to cross 2 lanes of traffic and my engine stalled. I barely made it across traffic and the oncoming traffic had to slow down in order to avoid a T-bone type accident. The dash board lit up like a Christmas tree with warning lights. I still had battery power and able to slowly pull over to a side road, nothing more than 10mph. The engine would not turn over or engage. I power off the vehicle, let it sit for a couple minutes. I attempted to start the vehicle again, but there was no power to anything. I had the key fob and attempted to touch it to the start button to make sure it was in range, still nothing. I called road side assistance and had them tow the vehicle to the dealership. The dealership stated it fired right up without any issues the next morning. They could not provide a reason for the power loss or give an explanation for the warning lights because their computer did not have a history of it. I have since driven the become another 30k miles and have not experienced any loss of power. However, a safety recall for the exact motor in my truck was issued for all 2022 and 2023 tundras. The hybrid trucks were not in the recall. The incident described above was a big safety issue and very close to a bad accident. No doubt in my mind this motor is defective and it will happen again. On [XXX] approximately [XXX], travelling on [XXX] in Florida between Ocala and Gainesville my Toyota Tundra 2022 Crew Max engine shut down and lost power. There were a few lite knocks that were heard over a few minutes and I pulled over at a gas station to check it. I turned the truck off and on again after filling the gas. I heard the knocks at low RPM but were not concerning due to the fact that once the engine turned over, they seemed to go away. I returned to [XXX] and headed towards Gainesville. At approximately [XXX], the engine made a few intermittent knocks and I looked at the RPMs and dash- no warnings were exhibited. I was boxed between 2 x 18 Wheelers, 1 behind me and one on right lane when the engine light came on and a notice stating loss of oil pressure. I went to get to the left lane having to pull in front of the 18 wheeler on right side, the engine cut power and the dash said engine was shut down. I believe the hybrid motor gave us enough momentum to cut quickly off road. In the process, the truck on the right came within touching the vehicle as it was enough to knock the bike over on the back of the truck. Prior to this event I brought the vehicle to Hedricks in Fayetteville for new tires, safety inspection and recalls to be worked off on 12NOV. This was a result of advice in terms of tires from the mechanics given the last recall I brought it in for. New tires were placed on the vehicle, 2 recalls were worked off and we had a discussion about the engine rec

I am writing to file an official complaint regarding a safety issue involving the engine on my 2022 Toyota Tundra, which is subject to an open recall. The component in question has reportedly experienced a malfunction that presents a severe safety hazard. Specifically, I have been informed that there is a potential defect that could lead to the engine catching fire, as indicated by the recall notice. However, I have also been informed that no remedy is currently available for this issue, which has left me with an unresolved and potentially dangerous vehicle. **Safety Risk Assessment:** This issue places both my safety and the safety of others at significant risk. An engine fire could occur suddenly, which would pose an immediate danger to passengers, other motorists, and pedestrians. The inability to have the defect remedied promptly has heightened my concerns, as I am left with limited options for safely using my vehicle. **Confirmation and Inspection:** The issue has been acknowledged by Toyota through an official recall, but a dealer has not been able to inspect or repair the vehicle due to the lack of an available fix for this defect. Despite my attempts to seek a solution, I have been informed that the problem cannot currently be resolved, leaving my vehicle in an unsafe condition. **Warning Signs:** No warning signs were present prior to learning of the recall **Request for Assistance:** Given the severity of this issue and the absence of an available remedy, I am reque

There is extreme lag when attempting to accelerate. There can be 1-2 seconds after pushing the gas petal before the engine responds and starts to accelerate the vehicle. It’s been apparent much more so when coming to a slow stop vs a harder braking stop. This lag has caused me to come close to several collisions. Such as when turning left in front of oncoming traffic. The truck moves a few feet into the oncoming lane just from momentum, but no acceleration from the petal push, until 1-2 seconds later. And by then I’m panicking and have pushed the petal all the way down so when the acceleration starts it’s full acceleration and can spin the tires or over accelerate dangerously. It forced me to drive so cautiously that this type of driving is dangerous itself.

This vehicle is a safety hazard. Whenever you come to a slow roll or a complete stop and you try to accelerate out it will lag anywhere from one to three seconds and by the time you’re getting in front of other cars, it will sometimes cause them to slow down so they don’t hit me. Please force Toyota to get a remedy for this as I do not want to be in an accident and die or have anybody hit me and die. Thank you.

Had engine failure on highway with 27794 miles on the truck. There were no warnings or symptoms prior to failure. I was driving along and heard a large thud and the waring message came on stating low oil pressure and to pull over and shutdown vehicle. This happened on a multi lane highway going up hill and I barely made it over the shoulder to shutdown the vehicle. Would have been bad if I hadn't made it to the shoulder and ended up stranded in traffic lanes on a multi lane highway. I was told by the dealership that the short block would need to be replaced and that they found chunks of metal up to 2 inches in the oil pan. Vehicle is at dealership awaiting parts for repair and can be inspected anytime.

I have received a recall notice on my vehicle (Toyota Tundra) about a serious engine issue 2 months ago. The NHTSA recall number is 24V-381. The Toyota recall number is 24TA07. Now two months have passed, they still didn't have a remedy available. In the letter, it states "Engine may stall during driving. A loss of motive power while driving at higher speeds can increase the risk of crash." It is not reasonable for such a serious problem but they are still not able to provide a fix for it for this long. I am filing a complaint in hope to get this resolved. I am requesting Toyota to provide fix for this issue within two weeks. If they are not able to, they need to buy back my vehicle.

This truck has a recurring issue of when you press the accelerator pedal there is no throttle response. After a second or two it responds to the throttle. It’s unsafe as the truck does not respond so it doesn’t move. This throttle delay could cause an accident.

What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
