During a heavy rain period , the vehicle's forward collision warming sensor came on momentarily and after a few seconds it went off. This happen while driving on local roads and road was wet from the rain. And there were no cars ahead or behind me. Spoke about this with the service department at toyota dealer and they mentioned this was likely from from the rain blocking the sensor.
I am filing this urgent complaint regarding a life-threatening defect in my 2022 Toyota RAV4 SUV that gravely endangers my family and the public. This is a desperate plea for intervention. For over a year, my vehicle has repeatedly displayed a terrifying, unreadable red alert and piercing buzzer, occurring 3-4 times without warning and not real collision threat. These incidents are terrifying precursors to catastrophic failure. The Toyota dealership dismissed my concerns, stating they "cannot do anything" without replicating the intermittent problem. This dangerous negligence compounds my frustration, especially after prior unaddressed issues like radio malfunctions and door water infiltration. Crucially, the dealer's own CAR DTC logs confirmed C14FE14: "steering angle sensor supply voltage circuit short to ground or open." This documented electrical failure directly impacts the steering system. Toyota's own webpage [XXX] ) also details similar warnings, confirming my fear of brake system activation. My paramount fear is a false Pre-Collision System activation. Imagine driving at high speed when the brakes violently engage or steering falters due to this electrical short. The unthinkable consequences could be a devastating collision, causing severe injury or death to my family and others. This is a documented defect, met with manufacturer and dealer refusal to act. I cannot feel secure driving this car, nor can I responsibly sell this ticking time bomb to another family. I im
While getting gas the car was running and I got a warning that said engine stopped power steering low. I started the car and everything was fine and was able to drive with no issues and haven't seen the warning. I know sometimes dealerships have reminders for maintenance and not sure if this was just a glitch. After reviewing forums this seems like a known issue on Toyota but the vehicle hasn't been recalled some users have said car was fine while others say battery or alternator. This should be looked into. Thank you.
Broken Accelerator Pedal – 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Vehicle Information: •Year/Make/Model: 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid •Mileage at Incident: [53000] Incident Date: [August 10, 2025] Description of the Problem: While driving my 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, the physical accelerator pedal broke under normal driving conditions. The pedal construction is extremely flimsy and failed suddenly, rendering the vehicle unsafe to operate. If this failure had occurred during a high-speed maneuver, while merging into traffic, or while avoiding an obstacle, it could have caused a serious collision. I was fortunate that traffic conditions allowed me to safely pull over. There are no recalls or technical service bulletins publicly listed for this issue, yet this is a critical safety defect. A broken gas pedal can result in complete loss of acceleration control, which could cause injury or death. Steps Taken: •Stopped driving the vehicle immediately. •Documented the defect with photos. •Contacted Toyota and my local dealership for inspection. •Reporting this defect to NHTSA so it can be investigated and tracked. Safety Risk: Loss of accelerator function can cause sudden loss of power in traffic, preventing safe maneuvering and significantly increasing the risk of an accident.
After driving for approximately 30-minutes in the rain I pulled over and the automatic engine shutoff feature activated while I was waiting to pick somebody up. When attempting to restart the car, the engine would not turn over and I got a low power steering warning message on my dash. The problem persisted for approximately 15-20 minutes. Eventually after about 15 attempts to restart the engine, the car started back up and drove fine the rest of the way home. The dealership was unable to find anything wrong with my car, but I have heard of this happening to many other RAV4s and it causes me concerning, especially when I need to drive my car in the rain.
Engine shuts off with exposure to rain.
The contact owns a 2022 Toyota Rav4. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at undisclosed speeds and accelerating, the transmission momentarily shifted into 2nd gear and then into neutral(N), causing the vehicle to start coasting. The contact released and then depressed the accelerator pedal and instantaneously and the vehicle accelerated normally. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the transmission fluid was checked but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.
When it rains, the water goes inside the door. So I have lots of water in my door. Toyota didn’t properly seal the outside of the door.
I drove my car yesterday it was raining, pulled in the parking lot and the engine died out. I then got a warning message stating “Engine stopped, steering power low,” and the car will not start. 2022 Rav4 XLE 15k miles.
I was sitting in my driveway 5 minutes after getting home from work and the car engine turned over and message on the screen said “engine stopped, power steering low”. I tried turning it back on and it turned over again with the same messsge.
Vehicle Information: Year/Make/Model: 2022 Toyota RAV4 LE VIN: [XXX] Owner: [XXX] Summary of Problem: Water is building up inside the doors of my 2022 Toyota RAV4 LE. I purchased this vehicle brand new, and I’ve had several problems back-to-back. When I took the car to the Toyota dealership, the service technician told me this is a known issue with RAV4 models and may be caused by clogged drain holes inside the doors. This is a serious concern because the trapped water can lead to rust, mold, and electrical damage. I bought a Platinum extended warranty, but the dealership said this issue is not covered. I’m very frustrated because I maintain this car properly and expect better quality from Toyota, especially when the defect is known. Toyota has a Technical Service Bulletin (T-SB-0084-21 Rev1) about this problem, but no recall has been issued. I believe this is a design flaw and could turn into a safety hazard if the water affects electronics or mold forms inside the car. The contact owns a 2022 Toyota Rav4. The contact stated that after heavy rainfall, there was a swishing sound coming from the passenger’s side rear door. The contact stated that when the vehicle was parked, the contact inspected the vehicle, and became aware of water build-up in the passenger’s side rear door. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 9,512.
Every time it rains our Rav 4 gets water in the back doors. It sloshes around and you have to manually pull the seal back to drain. It happens every time. my understanding is this is a known issue.
The contact owns a 2022 Toyota RAV4. The contact stated that a sudden complete stop on a major roadway was necessary due to a turtle crossing, and the vehicle in front was at a complete stop and exited the vehicle in their attempt to remove the turtle from the road. A third vehicle coming from the rear failed to slow down and was driving at 55 MPH, crashed into the rear of the contact. As a result, the contact rear-ended the vehicle in front, which was unoccupied due to the attempt of a turtle removal from the roadway. The contact mentioned that the seat belt did not retract during the impact. No air bags deployed. The vehicle was towed to Copart Collision Center pending the insurance company's inspection of the vehicle. The contact stated that she sustained a head injury that required medical attention. A police report was filed, but the police report number was unknown. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 36,098.
Engine shuts off on its own with the car continuing to run. No battery issue. Notice of “engine died steering power low” on the dash. Only happens in heavy rain.
Car starts and then turns itself off immediately. It shows the message “Engine Stopped Steering Power Low”. It is raining where I live and I’ve read online that this is an issue that is happening to these vehicles when it rains.
When wet, during rain or after a car wash. The engine will rev, the car will shake, and then shut off. I believe it’s the alternator.
As I was driving my car jolted and I saw a message that read engine off steering power low go to safety but my car turned off shortly right after. I was lucky it wasnt A busy hour otherwise I could have been in an accident. I was driving and the car turned off on me! Took it to Toyota no codes showing up and battery is 100%. This is so scary and im too scared to drive my car. Went online saw so many people reporting the same issues on RAV4 and no solutions.
When back seat is empty, car incorrectly detects a person sitting in the back and dings until the back seat belts are buckled. Toyota dealer claims this is a known issue and claims it will not affect which airbags deploy in a collision. This is a daily issue, and can only be addressed by buckling the back seat belts at this time, according to the Toyota service department.
Tailgate will not close when button on the back or by the driver's seat is pressed. After pressing the close button at tailgate or driver's seat with tailgate open, it will lower an inch then beep several times and lift open again. Toyota dealer claims this is a known issue and the solution is to "reset" the tailgate, which they would do for me. Resetting immediately failed, and the issue persisted. Toyota service department said, "there is a button on the hatch that will reset it. you will hold that button until it does a sequence of beeps (beeeeeeeeepp, beep beep beep) then let go an press it again like you would want to close it and you should be good to go! :)" (sic). This solution worked once and immediately failed the second time I attempted to close the tailgate. This is a daily issue that was replicated at the dealer but not fixed.
APPEARS TO BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. SIDE DOORS BACK AND FRONT FILL WITH WATER. WINDOWS ROLLED UP AND DOWN HAVE STREAKS OF WATER(WET ALL THE TIME). WATER POURS OUT OF DOOR FRAMES. SLOSHING OF WATER IN DOORS. CAR HAS NO MORE THAN 15,000 MILES ON IT. ALWAYS KEEP COVERED IN GARAGE. CAR DOES NOT ACCUMULATE DEBRIS OR LEAVES. HAVE TAKEN INTO TOYOTA PALO ALTO TWICE NOW. NO REAL HELP. CANNOT SEE WELL FROM WINDOWS - SAFETY ISSUE AS SIDE WINDOWS STAY STREAKED OBSCURING VIEW AND MOLD CONCERNS WITH WET INTERIOR DOORS.
It’s been raining for about 4-5 hours by now, I drove to church (1 hour drive) left my car outside in the parking lot in the rain while I was there. Then drove home (another 1 hour) and when I came home just now I sat in my car parked with the engine on for about 5 minutes when suddenly the car started shaking and then it turned off with a message “Engine Stopped - Power Steering Low, ignition on” on my 2022 Toyota RAV4 XLE. I think this issue needs to be investigated ASAP as it is a big safety concern, what if it happened when I was driving on the highway in the rain, at night? My Google and Reddit search revealed that a lot of people are experiencing this issue and this is a place to help start an investigation. I had a full inspection on my car at the Toyota dealership just a few weeks ago and everything including the battery was fine.
Power lift-gate lowered on its own as I was putting groceries in the back compartment. My hands were nowhere near the button you press to lower the lift-gate. If I hadn't quickly ducked out of the way, I could have been seriously injured or killed. This has never happened before. Now I'm reluctant to use the back compartment for fear the lift-gate may lower on its own again. This incident happened this morning in a Target parking lot about 9:30 AM.
On [XXX], I was driving in a rain storm on [XXX]. I pulled off the highway into a parking lot and the car stalled out. The check engine light and the power steering light came on. I tried to start the car 3-4 times over the next fifteen minutes and it did not start. I waited a few more minutes and the car started and the lights cleared from the dashboard. I was able to drive 120 miles home with no issues with the vehicle. I called the Toyota of Massapequa dealership service department the next morning and they offered to inspect the car. I declined as the dashboard lights were gone and the car seemed to be running fine. I did have them check out the car when I brought it in for the annual NYS inspection and oil change in August 2024. The technician found no issues with the engine and there were no codes in the computer. The car has not given me a problem since this happened. Front HVAC Blower Motor High Pitched Noise around 15khz frequency when fans are turned on. Causes discomfort to driver and passengers. Confirmed to be also heard by our local toyota dealership manager. Contacted toyota customer service about the issue and they are aware of the TSB that was issued but my vehicle is just out of the short warranty period to have it fixed according to Toyota. This issue seems to be common among online forums with this vehicle. The Sunvisors on the driver side and passenger side also sag and are very difficult to move up and down. Potentially a safety issue in the future if they fail to work properly when needing to block bright light such as the sun, no TSB issued from Toyota.
I have taken vehicle to Toyota service center numerous times and showed them what the vehicle is doing and they are telling me it’s normal. Its not normal when every bump, manhole, railroad tracks you hit in the road with your foot on the brake when your trying to slow down when the abs or traction control is activated and the car skids forward and comes close to causing a crash. When that is activated sounds like a electric grinding noise is activated. I only have videos no pictures
Yesterday while sitting in a drive thru, my Rav4 began shaking forwards and backwards a few times and then an error popped up saying Steering Power Low, Engine Off. At this point, I turned off my car and put it in park and it took a multiple times to get the car to power back on. This also threw a check engine light. After looking into this issue, we found other owners of 2019-2024 Rav4 also experience this issue and when the dealership runs their diagnostic they cannot find anything. We read it with a personal car code reader and had codes 7E8 and 7E9 but the dealership found nothing.
The contact owns a 2022 Toyota Rav4. The contact heard an abnormal sound coming from the driver's side rear door. The contact stated that the sound was a "sloshing" sound of water. The contact stated that when she had parked the vehicle on a road with an upgrade with the front of the vehicle facing up, she observed that water was leaking out from the bottom of the door. The contact stated that when it rained, the noise and water leak were more noticeable. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 26,000.
The contact owns a 2022 Toyota Rav4. The contact stated that while either driving at various speeds or coming to a stop, a moving water sound would emit from both the rear driver and passenger side doors. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer on multiple occasions to have the doors drained to prevent mold from developing inside the vehicle. The contact was also informed by the dealer that the failure was a result of the vehicle's design and that no other repairs could be made to address the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000.
While driving in stop-and-go traffic on a major highway, the auto braking system engaged and the brake would not release. The car came to an abrupt halt and the brake would not release, the gas pedal would not depress. I had to turn the car off, place the car in park and restart the car, the car then continued driving. There was a message on the dash about EPB.
The contact owns a 2022 Toyota Rav4. The contact stated that while driving and coming to a stop, there was a sound of moving water coming from the rear driver's side and passenger's side doors. The contact stated that upon opening the doors, she was able to partially drain the water; however, water was still leaking inside the rear driver's side and passenger's side doors during rainy weather. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.
Rear passenger door does not drain and holds water. This is a potential mold issue which is a health problem. This will also cause the doors to rust.
Fuel Injector failed, causing the engine to run extremely rich, misfire, and cause severe drivability issues. Issue occurred just outside vehicle base warranty. Problem was verified and confirmed by vehicle dealership. MIL was illuminated when drivability issue and malfunction started.
NO ACCIDENTS
On [XXX], I opened the unblemished retractable glass roof of my 2022 RAV4 XSE. The rear windows were rolled down approximately 4 inches. No other cars/people were in front, next to, or behind me. As I accelerated to approximately 35 mph, I heard an explosive blast and peered upward. I noticed that the retractable glass roof panel had completely shattered. Shards of the roof rained on me as I drove home. Once home, I closed the roof just enough to secure my vehicle. The motor /closing mechanisms were operable. Glass shards were present in the tracks as well as on the top of the intact remainder of the glass roof. Glass shards were present in both the front and back seats of the vehicle. Upon inspection, there were NO visible pits/holes in the shattered roof; however, the roof was almost completely displaced from the edges of the moonroof’s seal/frame (see pictures). I contacted my Insurance to file a claim, and my SUV was towed to Toyota. 6/24 Toyota’s estimator left a voicemail stating that the glass roof was being assessed. I left a message asking for the cause of the damage. On 6/25, Toyota called and stated that the roof panel was being replaced. The estimator was unable to determine the cause of the breakage and mentioned that this was the first time they had to replace a panoramic sunroof. No other outside agencies (only Toyota Carlsbad Collision) inspected and/or addressed the damaged glass roof. A faulty design and /or improper manufacturing of the glass was never addr
I had another incident this week where I was stranded in a parking lot and had to call Triple A to get my car running properly again. They tested the battery and belts and all were good. When trying to start my car, it locked and said: "ENGINE STOPPED, POWER STEERING LOW". Not only was my car locked, but it was shaking and making scary noises. The same thing happened to me at a drive-thru a year ago. My car is a Toyota Rav 4 LE 2022 with 20K miles on it and is too new to be having these problems. Through looking up this issue on Google, I have seen that there are a good amount of Rav 4s that are newer dealing with this same issue.
The Multimedia dashboard is completely blank. Not able to use sound, gps, music, etc. Cant set time or any adjustments to vehicle. This seems to be a manufacturing issue. Dealer said there is nothing they can do about it. Was told will need to pay $1600 to replace it. Don't know how long a new won will last. Can't keep spending $1600 everytime the electrical system Malfunctions. Please help.
The Blind Spot Warning system fails to alert the driver when a vehicle in the adjacent lane is partially behind the current vehicle. It only activates when the nearby vehicle is completely behind the current vehicle. Due to this limitation, the system does not provide adequate warnings for nearby vehicles, which has nearly caused several accidents when the driver attempted to change lanes.
The radio screen in this vehicle keeps going black. When it is connected to CarPlay, the GPS will randomly shut off. At times, the radio steering wheel controls and the volume knob on the radio will not adjust the volume creating a safety hazard as I not able to lower or turn off the volume. Freeway Toyota in Hanford California did a software update about a year ago in relation to the same issue but the issue persists.
Vehichle has stranded me twice with multiple error messages when I try to start it. All kinds of lights go on and off on the dash and messages include: Parking Brake Unavailable, Voltage Abnormality Steering Power Low, Hybrid System Not Available, Braking Power Low-Stop in a Safe Place, Antilock Brake System Malfuntion, Rear Cross Traffic Alert Unavailable, Blindspot Monitoring Unavailable, Pre-Collision System Unavailable, Visit Dealer. It makes all kind of weird noises and vibrations in the break peddle also during this. I have been told this is a problem with low battary of the 12V but that battery is charged by the Hybrid battary and does nothing but run electronic features, does not start the vehichle. Have read this has happened to people while actually driving the vehichle, I am scared this will cause an accident. 2 year old vehicle.
My vehicle is 2 years old and had 17,000 miles on it when the steering wheel began to peel and chip. Toyota says that it was "caused by the user". There are reports all over the internet about this same problem on this same vehicle.
Steering wheel is deteriorating on vehicle. It is low mileage and and has one driver.
The contact owned a 2022 Toyota RAV4. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 20 MPH, the steering wheel independently veered in the right direction. As a result, the vehicle crashed into an unoccupied parked vehicle. The contact's vehicle flipped twice and the driver's side of the vehicle was severely damaged. The air bags deployed. The contact and the back seat passenger received medical treatment. The contact sustained a lower back injury and heart issues, and the passenger sustained a bump on the head. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence, then the vehicle was towed to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 24,000. The VIN was not available.
Tire split on the inside of the tire wall about 1 inch up. Less than 20,000 miles on them. I do not believe this is normal. 225/60 R18. Car was serviced by Toyota on March 21st.
Loud clunk over bumps, suspension sounds loose and dangerous. Vehicle was purchased new and has 24,443 miles, this sound is NOT normal for a new vehicle.
When driving on the interstate, the sunroof (aka, the moonroof) spontaneously shattered. It was most certainly NOT stuck by any object.
My wife and I were traveling down SR74 mp 12 and rear ended a cow at 68 miles per hour. The airbags did not deploy from impact and yet the car is totaled the hood started through the safety glass of the windshield.
Was driving to my daughters in the rain. As was pulling in my rav 4 started jumping and sputtering and cut off with a message of “engine stopped, power steering low”. Tried to crank it and same thing. Let it set over night and cranked fine. Took to dealership and they said could not find anything wrong. Have googled and tons of this same report on there but no solution. Needs to be recalled and fixed. Car just cuts off while driving
6/15/23 @ 18,357 miles the car was given a four wheel alignment at the owners request. Due to loud tire noise and visible cupping on the right rear inside edge, it was clear the car's wheel alignment was wrong. The dealer's before and after alignment is attached. When presented the before and after, I noted RR Camber was.-2.3 vs. a range of -1.8 to -0.3 degrees. The reading was unchanged from initial. They advised me the camber cannot be adjusted and is "fixed" from the Factory. The form also read "One of more value are not within specification. Tire wear, handling and safety problems may result". But they had no remedy. I escalated at Dealer. Dealer opened a ticket with Toyota to look at my car. Of note, my Sister in Law's RAV4car has the same issue. I felt I had made my concerns clear and Toyota Corp would address. 2/1/24 At 30,345 the problem is still unresolved and dealer gave me Toyota Corp number and I opened case 240201000061. 4 calls later I am told to bring my car to dealer 2/20/24. Research shows TSB 0042-14 for earlier RAV4. My safety problem is not new to Toyota, it is just a later model. When I told Toyota Corp their response from 6/15/23 to 2/1/24 is unacceptable, they took no ownership. When I asked if I should drive an unsafe car they said it is my choice. When I advised them of the language from the dealer said the tires were unsafe, they said the Dealer is independent from Toyota. In short, the dealer is "Independent". Toyota has a problem with their design

What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
