Front passenger tire, of a 2025 base model Toyota Land Cruiser, blew out on the interstate going 80 mph with only 9,123 miles on the vehicle. Fortunately the driver was able to navigate to the shoulder and bring the vehicle to a stop without causing further damage to the vehicle or surrounding traffic. Dimensions listed on the tire are 265/60R20 112H. Toyota dealership indicates this is not under warranty. Remaining 3 tires and full sized spare are the same model Yokohama Geolander tires.

I was driving down the road without other vehicles nearby. There was no overpass nearby. I heard a deep, loud noise like a shotgun overhead. I opened my sliding sunroof cover and noticed that the entire window had spontaneously shattered (appeared pebbled throughout). The internal temperature of the car registered 101 degrees Fahrenheit. I kept the sliding panel closed and could hear pieces of the window detach as I drove home as the adhesive did not hold the window together. I contacted Toyota, and they mentioned that there was no recall for this. In looking online, it appears that others have experienced similar due to small defects in the glass that can spontaneously shatter. There was no warning and I have only opened the sunroof twice in almost 18 months of ownership, the last time at least a year ago.
Fuel/Propulsion System

Fuel line connecting to the gas tank was found completely disconnected, causing a strong gasoline odor, significant spilled gasoline and multiple warning lights including hybrid malfunction. There is an orange plastic clip that connects the flexible tube from the tank to the rigid fuel line that runs to the engine and this clip was found detatched. Dealer confirmed that the fuel rail line disconnected. Dealer suspects poor seating of connector retainer clip from factory. Review of various Land Cruiser online forums report multiple similar incidents. Dealer indicated Toyota is aware of and investigating this issue.

I own a 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser 250 that I purchased in February 2025. Every time it rains, my car develops a strong musty, mildew-like smell inside the cabin. It usually fades after a few days of dry weather. This has been happening since I first got the car. It’s very annoying thing to happen on a new vehicle.

The handshake between the Toyota Entertainment System, and the SiriusXM satellite, have a known issue. The metadeta is not being received upon start up of the vehicle, at least half the time the vehicle is turned on. This causes a "loading..." screen error on the SiriusXM screen. While music is playing just fine, the data feed never does load. This is occurring in various locations, even in open fields and parking lots with no obstructions of the sky. The vehicle has been seen by the dealership, screen shots have been shared, but no software patch has been issued to solve the "handshake" between the radio unit and SiriusXM satellites. The temporary solution is to hold down the power button and do a "soft reset" of the entertainment unit, which solves the issue until the vehicle is powered off and powered on again. This issue is widespread, and many owners of Land Cruiser, 4runners, Corollas and Grand Highlanders have experienced the same issue, with no solution in sight. Personally, this issue has been occurring for at least 16 months, and perhaps since I owned the vehicle. The dealership has hooked the vehicle up to diagnostic tools, but no error or fault codes are showing, which leads to believe this is purely a software bug with the metadate parser when the vehicle is first turned on.

Intermittent delayed upshifts with slipping sensation, most noticeable between 1st and 2nd gear under light throttle. Occurs approximately 3–4 times per week. Condition has been present since approximately 5,000 miles. Dealer has documented two repair visits and written 'drives normal' on both repair orders despite the condition persisting. Toyota North America was contacted and promised dealer follow-up that never occurred.
SuspensionCrash
Filed May 21, 2026VA
I am reporting a serious safety defect in my brand-new 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser (Hybrid J250 series). Vehicle Information: VIN: [XXX] Mileage at time of failure: approximately 4,000 miles Date of purchase/delivery: [XXX] Purchased new from: Koons Toyota Tysons Corner, VA Problem Description: On [XXX], while driving, a suspension component detached/fell off, causing loss of control and a crash. This was a complete mechanical failure of the suspension system with no prior warning or impact from another vehicle. The failure occurred despite the vehicle having extremely low mileage and despite me previously reporting suspension issues to the dealer. Prior to the crash, I took the vehicle to the dealer on April 17 , 2026 for suspension problems. The dealer inspected it and explicitly stated that the vehicle was safe to drive. Shortly afterward, the suspension failed catastrophically, resulting in the crash. This indicates a manufacturing, design, or assembly defect that poses an unreasonable risk of crash, injury, or death. No modifications, abuse, or lack of maintenance contributed to this failure. This is a new 2025 model with no prior owner history. I believe this is a safety defect that may affect other vehicles, especially given the extremely low mileage at failure. I request that NHTSA investigate this as a potential safety defect, consider opening a defect investigation, and issue a recall if warranted. I attached letters i sent to dealer service advisor and service manager

Purchased a new 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser in September 2025. This SUV is prone to windshield damage due to its pitch angle. 4/16/2026 traveling on highway a flying road rock cracked the windshield. The windshield was replaced on 4/23/2026. On 4/25/2026, while traveling on highway another rock chipped the windshield. This seems to ba a defect and a potential hazard. I have also noticed that the windshield gets more bug/insect encounter than my other land cruisers (I have had 2002, 2006 and 2016 LC). This seems to be a major problem with the windshield. Web search seems to also confirm this defect with other newer/remodeled LC owners.

Several of us on the Toyota forum are noting that the portion of the sunroof positioned toward the rear seat does not form a proper seal and is letting water into the vehicle. This in turn puts electronics at risk or being compromised and unsafe driving conditions.

Power Train
Filed Jan 8, 2026UT
The owner reports that at slow, consistent speeds [approx. 1–10 mph] on an incline, including steep paved city roads and well-maintained alpine roads, the transmission/EV temperature increases quickly. Under similar low-speed inclines where speed fluctuates [approx. 1–25 mph], temperatures rise rapidly and result in overheating. This occurs both on-road and off-road. Once the transmission exceeds normal operating temperatures, reverse, 1st & 2nd gears exhibit abnormally harsh engagement, often with an audible thud and a physical impact felt by the driver and passengers. Multiple diagnostic attempts have been made at the dealership level. The only confirmed finding was elevated transmission temperatures. Because the transmission has not fully failed, no diagnostic fault codes are stored and no warnings have been logged by the vehicle, including the overheating transmission alert, no repair or corrective action has been offered. The only recommendation has been to operate the transmission manually and use 4L during slow-speed driving. Attempts were also made at the corporate level, which resulted only in redirection back to the dealership with the same workaround having been advised. When the owner asked whether 4L should be used during stop-go traffic on an incline while on a freeway, a Toyota representative confirmed that it should. This guidance is considered misinformation, as it contradicts Toyota’s 4WD user manual and could result in catastrophic engine and transmission d

The contact owns a 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser Hybrid equipped with Yokohama Tires, Tire Line: Geolandar X-CV, Tire Size: 265/60/R20, DOT Number: 14UOHY6L2462. The contact stated that while his wife was driving 60 MPH, the rear driver's side tire unexpectedly experienced a blowout. A tire message was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact's wife pulled over and had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic, who replaced the rear driver's side tire. The tire was original equipment. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The tire manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The tire and vehicle failure mileage was 5,000.

As I was driving with my family at normal freeway speeds, a loud explosion rang out from the top of vehicle. The sunroof glass exploded and fell onto us below. There was no other cars near us, and no overpass. When the glass exploded, it sounded like a bomb, and appeared pressure was the reason, as it exploded upward, leaving the shape of an exploded volcano on the top of the sunroof. No rock or other object could have caused this from the outside: the impact would have had to come from inside of the vehicle. The vehicle is currently at the dealership being inspected.
Visibility/Wiper

We have a brand new Toyota Land Cruiser which is roughy two months old with just over 2000 miles on it. The plastic on our side views mirrors are literally melting as is the plastic on the side of the doors. The dealership refers to this as a “common” Toyota compliant called solar convergence which is NOT covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. While the immediate damage is not causing a loss of visibility as the distortion continues it certainly will at some point. We have yet to receive a cost repair: Toyota should be forced to recall all Land Cruiser which use plastics known to be prone to solar convergence and replace all plastic at no charge. This is simply appalling that they are allowed to use these cost cutting materials in something as important as a side view mirror.

The driver’s side mirror vibrates at highway speeds (to the point of blurriness, distortion, distraction). My local Toyota dealership confirmed the issue, however they said it happens on all land cruisers so they aren’t willing to repair it. It’s a manufacturing defect and safety issue. It’s totally unacceptable and if the issue exists across the entire product line, Toyota should be held responsible for fixing the issue through a recall process.

Steering
Filed Aug 10, 2025CA
Lane Keeping assistance and Lane Departure warning include components that allow the vehicle to steer itself. They may be subject to cyber-attack and/or otherwise malfunction. it is my experience that one or the other is causing my vehicle to veer into other lanes of traffic as well as oncoming traffic on the other side of the road. I own the vehicle outright and it is available for inspection upon request. I have expressed my concern numerous times to Toyota. as an aside, on a second Toyota I owned, the hydrogen Mirai, I had similar concerns. and the dealer said it was the alignment and showed me a report stating that it was out of alignment and that they fixed the alignment. it did not resolve the problem, and I sold them the vehicle back at substantial loss to myself. I feel that I take my life in my own hands every time I get behind the wheel of the Land Cruiser, and I do not believe I can justify that risk anymore. No not with this vehicle. Allegedly Yes the vehicle has been inspected by the Manufacturer. It has certainly been to the dealership five to seven times since I bought it in March of 2025. There were no warnings of the failure.
No unusual pattern of severe incidents in the complaint record.
Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
Recall repairs are free for as long as the recall stands. Check whether a specific car still has open work at NHTSA's VIN lookup.
