2024 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid

Defect. Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Corolla Cross Hybrid vehicles. The vehicles may fail to make sufficient pedestrian warning sounds when in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 141, "Minimum Sound Requirements for Hybrid and Electric Vehicles."

Risk. Insufficient pedestrian warning sounds may fail to alert pedestrians of a reversing vehicle, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy. Dealers will update the software for the pedestrian warning sounds, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed September 1, 2026. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are 26TB08 and 26TA08.

Defect. Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Corolla Cross Hybrid and 2023-2025 Corolla Hybrid vehicles. A software error in the skid control electronic control unit (ECU) may result in a loss of power brake assist when turning a corner.

Risk. A loss of power brake assist can extend the distance required to stop, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will update the skid control ECU software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 19, 2024. Additionally, notifications to owners of the Corolla Hybrid vehicles were mailed January 17, 2025. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is 24TA11.

Defect. Gulf States Toyota, Inc. (GST) is recalling certain Toyota 2023 GR Supra, 2024 4 Runner, Corolla, Grand Highlander, Grand Highlander Hybrid, Land Cruiser Hybrid, Tacoma, Tacoma Hybrid, 2023-2024 BZ4X, Corolla Cross Hybrid, GR Corolla, GR86, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Prius, Prius Prime, Sequoia Hybrid, Tundra, Tundra Hybrid, Venza Hybrid, 2023-2025 Crown, and 2025 Camry Hybrid vehicles equipped with GST accessories. The load carrying capacity modification label may display inaccurate added weight values. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."

Risk. A vehicle with an incorrect maximum capacity weight value may be overloaded, which can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy. GST will mail new labels to owners, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 16, 2024. Owners may contact GST customer service at 1-800-444-1074. GST's number for this recall is 24R2.

The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 MPH, the steering wheel suddenly malfunctioned and erroneously self-turned to the left, causing the vehicle to crash into a pole, where the vehicle came to a stop. The damage was to the front of the vehicle. During the incident, no injuries were reported, and no police report was taken. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The local dealer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 5,700.

The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving 20 MPH, the Forward Collision Avoidance, Automatic Emergency Braking was unintentionally activated. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact turned off and restart the vehicle and continued driving; however, while driving at 20 MPH, the failure recurred, causing the vehicle to come to a complete stop. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed there no failure was found with the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that later, while driving on the highway at 60 MPH, the Automatic Emergency Braking warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer, where the vehicle was diagnosed; however, the contact was informed that no failure was found with the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 14,000.

The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at night, the low beam headlights failed to properly illuminate and the headlights were extremely dim, creating a visibility hazard for the driver. The contact stated that upon inspection, the contact discovered that the inside of the plastic headlight covers had several abrasions and cracks. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were informed of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 100.

The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid. The contact stated while driving at night at approximately 35 MPH with the low beam headlights activated, there was a rectangular shadow cast ahead by both headlights. The shadow was cast directly to the front and the road was not fully illuminated. The contact stated that while using the high beam setting the shadow was not present. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was determined that there was a shadow, but there was no fix. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 700.

The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the electronic braking system malfunctioned, and a message to contact the dealer was displayed. While at an intersection, the Pre-Collision System engaged, and the brakes seized with an oncoming vehicle approaching. While entering the parking lot, the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to respond. The brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to another local dealer, Town & Country Toyota (9101 South Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28273) but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about a possible buy-back. The failure mileage was approximately 7,000.

The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid. The contact stated while driving 59 MPH in significantly hot weather condition, the contact heard an abnormal explosion. The contact stated that she pulled to the side of the road and noticed that the sunroof had exploded. The shade guard was closed at the time of the failure. The contact had not sustained any injuries. The contact stated the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the sunroof was replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and covered the repair. The failure mileage was 400.
