Filed Oct 9, 20182,854 vehiclesThor Motor Coach
Defect. Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2013 Thor Ace, Daybreak, Challenger, Windsport, Hurricane, Outlaw, Tuscany, and Palazzo motorhomes. The windshield wiper system may have been incorrectly installed, causing the wipers to fail during use, reducing driver visibility.
Risk. A reduction of driver visibility can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy. TMC will notify owners, and dealers will verify that the windshield wiper system is installed correctly, repairing or replacing the wiper system as needed, free of charge. The recall began November 28, 2018. Owners may contact TMC customer service at 1-877-855-2867. TMC's number for this recall is RC000161.

Defect. Thor Motor Coach (Thor) is recalling various 2003-2018 recreational vehicles, equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. See a list of the affected trailer models at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V758-5764.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf
Risk. In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.
Remedy. Thor will notify owners, instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2018. Owners may contact Thor customer service at 1-877-500-1020, or Kidde customer service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information.

Defect. Thor Motor Coach (Thor) is recalling certain model year 2011-2016 Thor Challenger, Thor Citation, Thor Hurricane, Thor Tuscany, Thor Windsport, 2011-2012 Thor Astoria, Thor Avanti, Thor Chateau, 2011-2014 Thor Daybreak, 2011-2015 Thor Outlaw, Thor Siesta, 2014-2015 Thor Miramar, 2012 Thor Four Winds, 2008-2011 Damon Astoria, Damon Daybreak, Damon Outlaw, Damon Tuscany, 2008-2012, Damon Challenger, 2008-2010 Damon Essence, 2009-2011 Damon Avanti, Four Winds Chateau, Four Winds Citation, Four Winds Four Winds, Four Winds Hurricane, Four Winds Siesta, Four Winds Windsport, 2009-2010 Four Winds Dorado, Four Winds Dutchmen, Four Winds Magellan, Four Winds Mandalay and 2009 Four Winds Fun Mover, and Four Winds Presidio motorhomes. The affected vehicles are equipped with certain Lippert-brand Coachstep Double and Triple Electric Steps. These steps use a bolt to attach the fan gear assembly to the steps. This bolt may fracture allowing the fan gear to disengage from the steps. As a result, the steps may not remain in the expected position and may be unstable.
Risk. Unstable entry and exit steps increase the risk of injury.
Remedy. Thor will notify owners, and dealers will install a retainer bracket to reinforce the operating mechanism and replace all of the affected bolts, free of charge. The recall began on January 6, 2016. Owners may contact Thor customer service at 1-877-855-2867. Thor's number for this recall is RC000111.

Filed Jun 25, 20137,593 vehiclesThor Motor Coach
Defect. Thor Motor Coach (Thor) is recalling certain model year 2006-2013 Windsport, model year 2006-2010 Magellan, model year 2007-2013 Hurricane, model year 2009-2013 Serrano and model year 2011-2013 A.C.E motorhomes. The motorhomes are equipped with an RV Custom Products Battery Control Center (BCC) which may experience a failure while the motorhome is in motion.
Risk. If the BCC fails, all power may be lost to the motorhome chassis, including all lighting, making the vehicle very difficult to operate, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy. Thor will notify owners, and dealers will rewire the BCC free of charge. The recall began on July 30, 2013. Customers may contact Thor at 1-877-855-2867. Thor's recall campaign number is RC000077.

Filed Apr 25, 2013427 vehiclesThor Motor Coach
Defect. Thor Motor Coach is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Challenger, Four Winds 5000, Hurricane, Chateau, Chateau Sport, and Windsport; model year 2013 Palazzo and Four Winds Siesta and model year 2014 Majestic motorhomes manufactured February 13, 2013, through April 09, 2013. If the awning installation sequence was not completely followed, the awning motor may unknowningly become damaged. A damaged motor may lead to an unfurling of the awning.
Risk. If motor damage occurs, it is possible that the awning can unfurl unexpectedly, either while the motorhome is at rest or while in transit, increasing the risk of personal injury or a vehicle crash.
Remedy. Thor Motor Coach will notify owners and Dometic staff will replace the affected motors with a design that is not subject to an out-of-sequence installation error. The recall began during May 2013. Owners may contact Thor at 1-877-855-2867 or Dometic at 1-888-447-0003 for more information. Owners are being instructed not to drive their vehicle until repairs can be performed.

MY WIPER BLADES MOTOR WHEN OFF THE WINDSHIELD SEVERAL TIMES AS WE DRIVING DOWN INTERSTATE 71, WHICH I HAD TO GET OUT AND RESET THEM. THIS WAS DURING THE A HUGE DOWNPOUR THIS WEEKEND IN THE KENTUCKY OFF OF INTERSTATE 71. A SEVERE ALERT WAS TEXT OUT LATER THAT NIGHT, SATURDAY MARCH 30, 2019. I WORK MYSELF TO AN EXIT WHERE AS I WAS PULLING INTO A GAS STATION TO LOOK AT THE ISSUE, I DAMAGE THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY UNIT, HITTING A BLACK POLE AT THE PUMP I WAS PULLING IN, BECAUSE I WAS UNABLE TO SEE OUT THE FRONT OF THE RV. I HAVE ATTACHED TWO PICTURES TO THE FILE SHOW HOW THE WIPERS END UP AS WE TURN AROUND AND DROVE BACK HOME. I CONTACTED ROAD SIDE SERVICE (COST $300.00) BUT THEY COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM DUE TO THE LACK OF PARTS FOR THE WIPER MOTOR. WE HAVE OWNED THIS UNIT FOR SIX YEARS, IF THIS WAS SUCH AN ISSUE THEY SHOULD HAVE ISSUE A NO DRIVE RECALL AND HAD THE DEALER CONTACT US DIRECTLY TO SCHEDULE THE REPAIR. I EVEN TOOK MY UNIT IN TO DEALER FOR A MINOR SERVICE ISSUE BUT NO ONE CHECK TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY OPEN ISSUES WITH MY UNIT. *TR

WHILE DRIVING DOWN A MAJOR HIGHWAY IN THE POURING RAIN, MY PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW WIPER DROPPED BELOW THE WINDOW FRAME EVENTUALLY GETTING TANGLED WITH THE DRIVERS SIDE ARM. THE WIPERS FAILED TO CLEAR THE WINDOW MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE AHEAD OF ME. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE AND RESET THE WIPERS TO WHERE BOTH WOULD OPERATE NORMALLY BUT ONCE ON THE ROAD DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE PASSENGER SIDE ARM FAILED AGAIN. I CONTACTED DANIEL CARR AT THOR REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND HE PROVIDED 3 DEALERS THAT I COULD TAKE MY RV TOO BUT 2 OF THEM REFUSED TO WORK ON THE WIPER PROBLEM, WHILE THE THIRD DEALER WOULD BUT I'[D HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. I LOOKED AT THE WIPER LINKAGE BEHIND THE COWL AND FOUND A LOOSE NUT WHERE THE PIVOT ASSEMBLY HOOKS TO THE MOTOR VIA A METAL BRACKET. AFTER TIGHTENING THE NUT, THE PROBLEM STILL EXIST. I HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED ON MY LAST TRIP THE WIPER SYSTEM WOULD NOT TURN OFF USING THE SWITCH. I HAD TO SHUT DOWN THE RV AND RESTART INORDER TO STOP THE WIPER.

WHILE DRIVING CROSS COUNTRY WE EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE WIPERS DURING A HARD RAIN. THE WIPERS DROPPED OFF THE WINDSHIELD BUT WE WERE ABLE TO PULL OVER AND RESET THEM. ONCE WE STARTED BACK ONTO THE ROAD, THEY FAILED AGAIN. WE ENDED UP DRIVING TO THE CAMPSITE WITH NO WIPERS. WE HAD A MECHANIC COME TO LOOK AT THE PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD IT NEEDED A COMPLETE ASSEMBLY. WE DECIDED TO WAIT TILL WE GOT HOME BEFORE HAVING THE WIPERS REPAIRED. WHEN HOME, WE WENT TO A THOR DEALER WHO INFORMED US THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM ON OUR MODEL AND WE PAID $300.00 TO HAVE THE WIPERS FIXED. THAT REPAIR WORKED FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME BEFORE IT FAILED AGAIN JUST LIKE THE FIRST TIME. WE NOW HAVE IT AT AN INDEPENDENT SHOP TO HAVE THE WIPERS REPAIRED. THE MECHANIC THERE ALSO INFORMED US THE WIPERS WILL NOT SHUT OFF WHEN TURNING THE SWITCH OFF. HE HAS CONTACTED THOR BUT THEY WILL NOT ASSIST IN PROVIDING PARTS OR TECHNICAL SUPPORT. *TT *TR *BF THE CONSUMER SUBMITTED PHOTOS. *TR

EVERY TIME I USE THE WIPERS ON A TRIP IN THE RAIN THE PASSENGER SIDE GETS STUCK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WHICH MAKES THEM STOP WORKING. I HAVE TO PULL OVER WITH NO WIPERS AND REMOVE THE PASSENGER SIDE WIPER ARM IN ORDER TO CONTINUE MY TRIP WITH THE DRIVERS SIDE WIPER ONLY. SOMETIMES THE DRIVERS SIDE GOES TOO FAR AND GETS STUCK ON THE SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD SCRATCHING THE PAIN ON THE COACH. I'VE TAKE THE ARMS OFF, REPLACED THE KNURLED DRIVE NUTS, TIGHTENED THE ROTATION SHAFT NUTS AND RE-TIMED THE WIPERS SEVERAL TIMES. I'VE CALLED THOR AND THEY WANT NOTHING TO DO WITH IT SINCE ITS A 2013 AND PRE-RECALL.

I HAVE A 2013 THOR HURRICANE CLASS A MOTOR HOME. THE DOOR HANDLE AND LOCK WERE MADE BY TRIMARK; PART NUMBER 060-0650. I RECENTLY DISCOVERED THAT I COULD NOT OPEN THE ENTRANCE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE. THIS IS THE ONLY DOOR ON THE MOTOR HOME, WHICH IS VERY COMMON WITH CLASS A'S. I THEN HAD TO CRAWL THROUGH A WINDOW TO GAIN ACCESS AND DISCOVERED I COULDN'T OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE EITHER. THE MOTOR HOME WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. AFTER TAKING OFF THE INSIDE DOOR TRIM, I COULD SEE THAT OPERATING THE HANDLE WAS NOT MOVING THE PLUNGER OUT OF THE STRIKE PLATE, THUS MAKING THE DOOR IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN. AFTER USING A SMALL TOOL AND A PIECE OF STIFF WIRE I WAS ABLE TO PUSH THE PLUNGER AWAY FROM THE STRIKE PLATE AND THEN OPENED THE DOOR. WHEN THE DOOR OPENED THE BROKEN PLUNGER FLEW OUT FROM THE LOCK (THERE IS A SPRING BEHIND IT). IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT THE PLUNGER ASSEMBLY HAD BROKEN INTERNALLY. IT TOOK ME A HALF AN HOUR TO OPEN THE DOOR. AFTER DOING RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, I FOUND A NUMBER OF RV OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS LOCK. THIS SITUATION IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IF INSIDE THE MOTOR HOME AND NEED TO ESCAPE IN AN EMERGENCY. WINNEBAGO INDUSTRIES EVEN ISSUED A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE (NHTSA SAFETY RECALL 15V-510) AND TRIMARK HAS DISCONTINUED THIS MODEL LOCK. I AM URGING YOUR AGENCY TO LOOK INTO THIS MATTER AND ISSUE A RECALL FROM ALL MOTOR HOME MANUFACTURERS USING THIS LOCK. I HAVE INCLUDED PICTURES OF THE LOCK WHERE THE PLUNGER SHOULD BE AND THE BROKEN PLUNGER ITSELF. ALS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SHEER PIN DETACHED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, WHICH CAUSED THE STEP TO BECOME LOOSE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT'S DAUGHTER SUFFERED A TWISTED ANKLE AND WRIST. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED EXCESSIVE LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING AND THE FITTINGS NEEDED TO BE TIGHTENED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. ALSO, THE REAR LADDER WAS LOOSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE LADDER WAS NOT PROPERLY MOUNTED. No unusual pattern of severe incidents in the complaint record.
Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
Recall repairs are free for as long as the recall stands. Check whether a specific car still has open work at NHTSA's VIN lookup.
