NHTSA campaign 18V843000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Keystone RV Company: Power Train › Axle Hubs

Keystone RV Company reported this defect to federal regulators on Nov 28, 2018 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 982. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling certain 2019 Keystone Cougar, Outback, Passport, Springdale, Bullet and Hideout recreational trailers and 2019 Dutchmen Aerolite and Atlas recreational trailers. The inner hub bearings of the axles may not have been sufficiently greased, which can cause the bearings to overheat and fail.

The risk

If the bearings overheat, the hub may fail, affecting handling and increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Keystone will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and repair the hubs and bearings, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began January 16, 2019. Owners may contact Keystone customer service at 1-866-425-4369. Keystone's number for this recall is 18-340.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 18V843000.
