NHTSA campaign 18V723000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Keystone RV Company: Suspension › Rear › Axle › Non-powered Axle Assembly

Keystone RV Company reported this defect to federal regulators on Oct 15, 2018 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 1,276. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling certain 2019 Dutchmen Aerolite and Atlas, Keystone Bullet, Laredo, Cougar, Hideout, Passport and Springdale, and Crossroads Sunset fifth wheels and travel trailers. The axles may be missing inner bearing races on the hubs, which can cause the bearing to burnout or cause the hub to overheat.

The risk

If the bearing cup is not installed it could lead to a bearing failure, affecting vehicle handling and increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Keystone will notify owners, and dealers will inspect axles for hub clearance. If the hub clearance is not sufficient, appropriate parts will be provided to correct the defect, free of charge. The recall began November 16, 2018. Owners may contact Keystone customer service at 1-866-425-4369. Keystone's number for this recall is 18-334.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 18V723000.
