Prevost Cars, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Sep 26, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 35. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Prevost Cars, Inc. (Prevost) is recalling certain model year 2013 X3-45, 2012-2014 H3-45, 2008 H3-45 VIP, 2005 XL2, and 2006-2011 XL2-45 Entertainer buses equipped with super single tires. The cold inflation pressure shown on the certification plate is higher than the specification for the super single tires installed on the rear axle, which may lead to tire overinflation. Thus, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Part 567, "Certification Regulation."

The risk

Tire overinflation may reduce traction, braking ability and handling, increasing the the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Prevost will notify owners, and dealers will replace the certification plate, free of charge. The recallbegan on November 22, 2013. Owners may contact Prevost at 1-418-883-2888. Prevost's recall number is SR13-61.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V472000.
