NHTSA campaign 01V170000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Country Coach Inc: Equipment › Other › Labels

Country Coach Inc reported this defect to federal regulators on May 29, 2001 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 389. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

CERTAIN MOTOR HOMES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 120, "TIRE SELECTION AND RIMS FOR MOTOR VEHICLES OTHER THAN PASSENGER CARS." THESE VEHICLES HAVE AN INEQUITABLE WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION BETWEEN THE FRONT LEFT AND RIGHT TIRES ON THE FRONT AXLE. THIS WEIGHT INEQUITY CAN CAUSE THE LEFT FRONT TIRE WEIGHT RATING TO BE EXCEEDED.

The risk

THIS COULD CAUSE PREMATURE FRONT TIRE TREAD WEAR OR TIRE FAILURE DURING NORMAL DRIVING. THE PREMATURE TIRE TREAD WEAR OR TIRE FAILURE COULD LEAD TO A LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL.

The remedy

DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE HEIGHT CONTROL VALVES AND THE HEIGHT CONTROL VALVE CONFIGURATION REVERSED TO REMEDY THIS NONCOMPLIANCE. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN MAY 14, 2001. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT COUNTRY COACH AT 1-800-452-8015.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 01V170000.
