Rear Anti lock brake system light came on along with the traction control light at the same time. Quick google search and I found that this is a known issue with this truck and is being evaluated for a recall. I would like to know if this is in fact a known issue that the manufacturer is aware of and if there is any relief for repair from the manufacturer as well.

Service electronic braking system light and service abs system.
Received warning of ABS and ESB malfunction as noted in the recent investigation PE22012. This malfunction occured while driving in rain and poor weather conditions, increasing the risk of safety of occupants. Warning indicators appeared and have appeared in the days and weeks since first occurrence but are not always on. Awaiting appointment for inspection at dealer service center.
Experiencing intermittent loss of breaking performance. Peddle will go to the floor, and front brakes wont work. Rear brakes seem ok.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that the ABS warning light and differential lock warning lights intermittently illuminated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.
Was driving on expressway exit ramp trying to come to a stop and the brakes hesitated and then locked up, at the same time the traction control and abs light came on. Traction control and abs lights still come on months later and problems with breaking are still there. Took to local shop to get fixed and they told me abs module and hcu pump are bad. Parts are not available thru mopar or aftermarket.
ABS break failure and deactivating of cruise control on interstate. No warning when it may happen. Does it multiple times a trip.
Intermittent failure of the electronic braking system. Audible Warning tone and indication "Service Electronic Braking System" followed by "Service antilock braking system" experienced intermittently. The multiple warnings automatically disabled the antilock brakes, stability control, and cruise control as well as producing annoying audible tone. This failure originally began occurring in August 2020 and was taken to the local Ram dealer in September 2020 when it was diagnosed as a defective 68143491aa hydraulic control unit module. After a three week lead time, the module was replaced under warranty with 12116 miles on the vehicle and the problem disappeared. Two years later in July 2022, the same warnings began intermittently with the same disabling safety issues at 24000 miles. On 10/19/2022, the Ram dealer diagnosed the problem as "Abs Control Module 68143491aa Has Internal Short. Part Is On Backorder With No Eta". I have repeatedly checked on the status of the part with the Ram dealer resulting in the same "Backorder with No ETA" response. In November 2022, I filed a formal complaint with Ram Cares. They have provided the same response "Unplanned resource requirement resulting in supply disruption. No firm ETA to provide at this time. Working to improve". This failure is a safety issue, not just an inconvenience and annoyance. My Ram 2500 is periodically used to haul a 10000lb trailer. The sudden loss of cruise control, stability control , and antilock brakes could cause
1. ABS Module and ABS Pump have malfunctioned, parts have been backordered for months with no ETA. 2. The problem has been verified by an independent service center 3. Has not been inspected by anyone else. 4. ABS light and Traction Control light come on intermittently.
ABS system malfunctioning, “service electronic braking system” and “service abs” messages flashing continuously while driving. Known issue among Ram. Was quoted $1000 to repair ABS module.
The brake anti lock warning light comes on intermittently causing cruise control to be turned off.Yes it can be inspected.I feel this is a safety issue when driving at highway speeds.
ABS system failure. Dealer informed me that brake fluid leaked through manifold into the computer module causing ABS system failure. Warning light on dashboard says ABS traction control warning, electric braking system warning.
ABS/traction control intermittently disables Without ABS/traction control while in poor weather conditions it creates a potential for an accident Dealer told me I need a new hydraulic control unit Service ABS and service electronic braking system flash and traction control turns off
The ABS pump motor control unit failed. Part number 68143491-AA making the ABS safety feature unusable. This is a know and common problem with this vehicle.
Service electronic brake system indicator came on while driving vehicle. Warning continued to go on and off numerous times randomly and still continues to do so. Took it to dealership to have problem addressed and service worker said this was his sixth 2018 Ram 2500/3500 in his dealership to have the HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT and ANTI LOCK BRAKE module to malfunction. FCA should have a recall on this, but as of now they don't. Parts are back ordered and won't be in for months. Dealership told me it's fine to drive as is but I'd rather not take my chances. Please address this. Thank you very much.
The ABS on my vehicle malfunctioned and the warning lights appeared on about 8/1/2022. The mechanic pulled the error code C0020-01 ABS PUMP MOTOR CONTROL - GENERAL ELECTRICAL FAILURE. His research indicates the solution is to replace both the ABS Control Module and the ABS Hydraulic Control Unit at the same time. As replacing one without the other seems to lead to additional unnecessary and costly repairs to the same part. After contacting every Ram dealer in my area, there are no ABS Control Modules available anywhere. I then checked the internet and it appears that the ABS CM (part# 68347098AB) is not available anywhere with over 2500 on backorder at a single RAM dealership in Texas. It appears that there are many thousands of RAM owners with the same problem and the lack of a replacement part is troubling. The ABS system in vehicles is a BASIC safety feature and a malfuctioning ABS will undoubable lead to crashes and possibly deaths. As a owner of an affected vehicle, I request that you investigate this problem and force RAM to ensure that their vehicles are equipped with the basic safety features that are required by law.
While traveling down a road in Palatka, FL, going 70mph, I experienced my truck disengage from cruise control and violently lock up the rear tires during wet road conditions. Shortly after the cruise control disengaged, an intermittent ABS and Traction control light illuminated. After bringing my vehicle to a certified auto shop, I was informed that the ABS Pump (Hydraulic Control Unit) OEM Part# 68143491AB was found to be at fault. I was told that the part would not be available until January 18th, 2023. After completing some research online, I found numerous people have reported the same problem I was having and also dealing with part delays. The Anti-Lock-Brake and traction control systems are both integral to the safe operation of the vehicle. Without the systems functioning properly I put my life and others at risk. I hope this issue gets looked at seriously and can be resolved promptly. People's lives are at stake.
While having tires changed 3 different times a lug nut stud has broken off. none of the times was the nut cross threaded or over tightened. the broken stud piece turned out of the nut by hand and seem to have had a manufacturing defect in the metal. i have the broken pieces still. if there is a problem with the way the studs were manufactured they all could break off causing an accident
Abs module failure replaced on 21 Nov. 2021. abs module failure second time back in for replacement on 21 Nv. 2022.
HCU failing. Blinks on display screen. Appears then disappears. When in cruise control and the HCU goes haywire, kicks cruise control off unexpectedly. When this occurs and the driver isn't expecting it, this causes panic because the vehicle rapidly slows down, nearly causing a vehicle collision if not prepared for it. I was almost rear ended due to this. Research on this failure would reveal this issue to be affecting 1000's of 2018 RAM trucks to have this problem. My local Dodge dealer advised I am approximately the 2500th person waiting on the part which is currently on BACKORDER. Have been a Police Officer for 15 years, safe driver and this nearly caused an accident on 695 Baltimore County, MD during heavy traffic.
A few weeks ago, the seat and steering wheel was so hot, I could hardley hold the steering wheel to drive. I immediately checked the controls for the heat, it was on and I turned off, it turns back on. I finally found a safe place to pull over and went to settings and made sure it was off. It automatically comes back on, then it wouldn't let me turn it off. Finally it switches to cool seats, then then fan is coming on wide open and I couldn't turn that off. I finally shut the truck down for a few minutes. Then restarted the truck, then the truck wouldn't go in drive, it was stuck in park. I kept working with the shifter and finally got it in drive. As soon as I pull back into traffic, the backup camera is on, the radio starts going crazy, going from station to station, I tried turning off the screen, it wouldn't turn off. Then all my phone contacts come up on the screen and then starts randomly calling people. I couldn't make it stop until I disconnected it from Bluetooth. I finally made it home and shut the truck off, and disconnected the battery hoping to reset the entire system. The next day, same stuff, but different stuff. Doors locking and unlocking. Also, had to take off Bluetooth again, because it starts talking and reading all my text messages. I love my truck, but it is driving me crazy, it's so distracting trying to keep it from doing all this crazy stuff. The steering wheel getting hot is crazy, I can't get nothing done sitting on the side of the road. Please help
Diesel truck computer system shuts down truck for minor def system error code to 5mph within 85 miles to get to a dealer to reset computer code. This will cause deaths from truck not going any faster than 5mph on freeway. Just because the def system sees an error and might cause a bit more exhaust, to shut down your truck in the middle of nowhere causing traffic nightmares and deaths is the most stupid rule the EPA and mfgs follow. Epa and mfg needs new computer programming on all diesel trucks that have this. If anything, make the derate to 65 mph for 500 miles, far enough so folks can get home safely.
HCU is malfunctioning. Loss of ABS. This has been checked at a certified dealership. Warning lights come off and on. This has been happening for the past 5 months. The parts are not available. Dodge/Ram need to make these parts available or they need to give us all a new vehicle.
I received a message regarding ABS failure. I had it checked an the OBD and it showed an active C0020-01 code. This is a widespread problem with this vehicle. So much so that FCA issued a bulletin dated 4/28/20, case # S2005000004. Parts are not available. The manufacturer should be held responsible for selling a clearly deficient product. Inoperative ABS is a serious safety issue and should be corrected immediately.
The truck ABS, traction control, and service electric brake lights and warnings have flashed and beeped on and off and on and off every few seconds. I took the truck to the dealer to be fixed under warranty. The dealer states it has a bad HCU and no longer has anti lock brakes however I can still drive the truck with all that distraction going on in the dash. The part is on back order and I won’t have my truck repaired until February (2.5 months) This same part was also replaced a a little over year ago under warranty along with Abs sensors and wire harnesses. I have 2 friends with the same year trucks who also had to have the same repair done. Upon looking up information on the internet it seems like this has been a on going issue on the 4th generation ram trucks 1500-3500 models from 2012-2018 I feel the safety of this could cause a car accident by the distraction of the dash going nuts and the possibility of a vehicle skid while not having anti lock brakes properly working. I would hate to drive it putting my life as well as others drivers and passengers lives in the line due to this safety issue ram is having. The issue happens randomly some times non stop while driving and sometimes I can drive 15 miles or so with nothing then it will start again. It first happened when I had approximately 50,000 miles on the truck and has done it again at 73,500 miles. When the lights are on it will not allow cruise control to work or 4x4 to engage. I have not noticed anything else not
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed, and the contact experienced a spongy pedal. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the ABS pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
Def warning light comes on for no reason and derates your speed to 5mph while traveling on interstate pulling trailer. You have only 85 miles to get to a dealer to erase codes. This is a very unsafe computer programing setting that the EPA states must be done. Going 5mph while on interstate pulling trailer will cause numerous deaths and accidents. 85 miles in nothing when your out in the middle of nowhere.
Anti-lock brakes system warning light comes on intermittently. When this warning light comes on it will also cause cruise control to disengage (if engaged). There is no warning when this will occur. Not sure if the anti-lock brakes are working properly. Dealer has confirmed the Hydraulic control unit and the ABS module is faulty and needs replace.
As I drive the vehicle, the dashboard makes a "ding" sound and the anti-lock brakes and the traction control lights come on. The display reads "Service Anti-lock Brakes". This also causes the cruise control to disengage. The cruise control cannot be set while the two lights are on on the dash. Sometimes the lights stay on for a while. At other times, the lights cycle on and off (and the ding sounds) every few seconds.
My truck was diagnosed with a faulty ABS pump assembly by a reputable repair shop . I understand by looking on the Web, that this is a common with this year and model truck. The dealer/manufacturer has no safety recall for this problem. As you know, the ABS helps the vehicle steer properly in an emergency braking situation by restoring traction to the tires. Loosing traction will shorten the stopping distance or lose control of the vehicle. In view of this, I do not understand why this component is not considered a safety issue. I would appreciate If your agency can assists me in resolving this issue with the dealer/manufacturer. Thank you, [XXX]. The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the ABS and service electronic brake system warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic control unit (HCU) needed to be replaced. The vehicle remained at the dealer awaiting the repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.
The ABS control module has begun failing sporadically while the vehicle is running. When this happens is disables the traction control system and the ABS system until the alarm clears, and if the vehicles cruise control is on, it immediately disengages. All of these symptoms deteriorate the safety margin of the vehicle, and cause mid-driving malfunctions that can be unpredictable. When the module is malfunctions both the ABS warning light and TCS warning light are illuminated and a text warning is displayed on the multifunction display of the gauge cluster. The contact found that the parts to rectify this issue are being rationed by Stellantis, leading to unacceptable lead times in simply procuring the parts. When added to the shop rates charged to fix this issue, the price of replacing this clearly defective component begins to total in the thousands of dollars. Therefore, in order to continue his profession and responsibly take care of my liabilities, operating a four-ton vehicle with a compromised braking system and have done so for two years now. In addition, the ABS Malfunction Indicator chimes repeatedly while driving, creating an endlessly distracting environment.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the rear wheels would spin upon depression of the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that a warning chime would sound as the ABS and traction control warning lights illuminated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred him to a dealer for a diagnostic test. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle with a defective anti-lock brake system (ABS) and hydraulic control unit (HCU) that needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 19,000. The contact stated that the necessary part for repair is on backorder. The vehicle slides in the rain and they are not confident in driving in the snow. The vehicle also cannot be used to tow a trailer now due to the trailer brakes not activating. The contact provided the repair in which FCA paid half of the repairs for the vehicle minus the amount for the diagnostic fee.
Abs service brake system light continually goes on and off with a chime each time. Sometimes 20 times in a minute. Code is C0020-01 abs pump motor control general electrical failure. Truck brakes will engage without input.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the ABS and traction control warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic control unit (HCU) needed to be replaced; however, the parts were on back order. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
Our Indicator warning light ABS light was coming on back in May 2022...ABS and traction control lights were coming on. We took the truck to the dealership and paid $223.58 for a diagnosis. The part wasn't covered under our power train warranty, so the warranty department did a goodwill payment for the repair. We had to wait approx 2 months for them to get the part in as there were so many other people waiting for it (I was told about 1100). they did the work finally in July, they said it was fixed. At that time we had 17,730 miles on it.... When we left the dealership the light started to come back on. I tried to reach the warranty dept at Dodge but they didn't return my phone calls. We took it back into the dealership and told them it wasn't fixed and the light is still coming on. We were charged another $223.58 diagnosis fee. They then said that the ABS control unit and module need replaced and the system flushed at a cost of $1993.70. I called the dodge warranty dept and explained my situation. They escalated my complaint and denied us any help. I complained to the dodge dealer that the truck was misdiagnosed the first time we brought it in, and they claim it is a different issue with the same part.....but yet the same symptom. I know that Dodge knows there is an issue with this and should issue a recall.
The engine oil pressure light suddenly comes on and the pressure drops causing the engine to turn off. Vehicle turns off in the middle of road while driving can cause serious accidents and injuries.
The ABS system fails to operate when braking causing skidding and loss of control under hard braking/wet/ slick conditions. The ABS light and the Traction Control light are illuminated and warning dings when the abs system malfunctions. This is incredibly dangerous to a vehicle that can tow a combined G.V.W.R of 24K Lbs. The Dealers are aware of the problem and the manufacturer states that they know of the issue but are not being forced to or have any knowledge of a recall for this failure. There are several forums about this and even had Chrysler/Fiat/Ram truck care involved in the forums about the issue but declines any issue for safety and to keep driving it or bring it in to have repaired at the owner's expense. I feel this is a safety issue with the braking system and needs to be forced on the company to remedy the issues at their expense. I work for Daimler Trucks North America and if this was an issue with a Tractor/Trailer, then it would be a recall to be repaired. People's lives are in danger when you have a heavy vehicle that does not have the proper braking safety features working as they are required to install per your standards. If you require it, it should be operational for the safety of all people on the road.
The LCD touch control screen in the dashboard has been delaminating for several months and is now malfunctioning causing the screen to change turn on and of settings such as heated seats, heat and AC. The screen will not remain off at night due to this malfunction causing an unsafe and distracting bright light coming from the screen remaining on.
ABS warning light comes on and chimes randomly. Message: “Service anti-lock braking system”. When driving, warning lights come on, chimes sound continuously, and if using cruise control, it is deactivated. Per my mechanic, I need to replace my ABS module and pump. Parts are on national back order. Estimated time for part availability is one and a half years! Truck only had 16,000 miles on odometer when this problem started. Chime warning comes on randomly and sometimes stays on indefinitely. Driving when the chime is sounding is a nightmare. Deactivation of cruise control is frustrating. Loss of ABS in rainy or slick conditions is dangerous, especially when towing 5th wheel. Dodge has no vehicle recalls on the 2018 2500s. Problem is exasperating and dangerous.
The contact owns a 2018 RAM 2500. The contact stated that the ABS and traction control warning lights illuminated continuously. The contact stated that the failure indicated that the ABS system and the trailer brakes needed to be serviced. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the ABS pump and ABS module had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired due to parts being on back order. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.
ABS Module & Hydraulic control unit
Getting code C0020-01, ABS pump motor control - general electrical failure This item failed within 24 months of purchase and now the replacement is giving me the same failure. Quick web search showing a large amount of there’s issues which controls ABS as well as the traction control system. I understand there’s wearable parts but this should happen twice on a 4 year old vehicle with 50k miles, not to mention the others on the road. This should be a recall item given the frequency of failure
ABS Module and HCU bad with 40K miles, a WELL KNOWN ram issue that they continue to ignore and take thousands of Additional dollars out of consumers pockets as they seem to go bad JUST after the basic warranty expires. 70 thousand dollar truck that is garbage, and Ram won’t remedy this problem. Second power wagon I’ve owned, same issue, similar mileage.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that after two weeks of not driving the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start up after several attempts. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact jumpstarted the vehicle and made an appointment with the dealer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed the contact that they could not duplicate the failure. However, the dealer replaced the battery. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer on two other occasions; however, the dealer could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 19,000.
Anti- lock brake trouble light is on permanently. Checked with dealer Part number 68347098AB antilock module is on back order. All online retailers are out of stock and no ETA of when its going to be restocked. This is a known problem with Dodge Trucks, without anti-lock brakes the brakes can lock up and skid out of control killing the driver/passenger and anybody else involved. once the light comes on cruise control is locked out. I think this warrants a safety recall. If it was just 1 or 2 cases I could see it being a random problem but reading on all the people who have the same problem, its scary to know as many Dodge ram trucks on the road with possibly no anti-lock brakes what could happen in an emergency
ABS and HCU module failure on a vehicle with less than 50,000 miles on it following all maintenance intervals and instructions. Results in traction control and automatic emergency braking not working as intended. Parts are backordered until January at the earliest, and will be over $1k after labor.
Repair to recall v06 to fix drag link was improperly performed by ram certified dealer, resulting in a drag link that is impossible to adjust. This prevents the alignment from being corrected, creating unsafe steering conditions.
While driving, a warning message appeared "service electric brake system". Taken to dealer. "Found, hydraulic control unit to be faulty." Need to replace unit. Correction determined "ABS SYSTEM ANDSTABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM IS COMPROMISED. SUGGEST NOT DRIVING THIS VEHICLE UNTIL PARTS ARE AVAILABLE AND INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE. " I was informed by the dealer the party's are restricted and cannot be ordered until January 2023 and then there is no guarantee they will be shipped. I contacted Ram service and was informed the parts did not exist and needed to be manufactured. I inquired how this could happen with only 28411 miles (less when detected) and if there was a recall. I was shocked a safety part like this that prevents the vehicle from being driven was not covered under recall. There was no offer to assist with providing transportation for me while I await for repair.
On 10/07/2022, I took the vehicle VIN number in reference for tire change at FIRESTONE Auto Care (440 S. Main St., Wichita, KS 67202-3720 - [316] 265-6659]). I also requested, wheels alignment and wheels/tire balance, and brake inspection. Upon those inspections, the technicians pointed out an IMPORTANT issue as follows: "IMPORTANT: This vehicle may be subject to a recall involving the toe adjuster. Search the internet for 'recall number 19V-021' for the latest information Under no circumstances should a weld from a recall repair be removed for any reason, including to perform an alignment. Removing the weld would remove a safety recall remedy that is currently in place., which would cause a serious vehicle safety issue. To adjust toe on a vehicle with a welded drag link in the WinToe procedure, choose 'select steering type' on the second tier of 'k-keys. Then, select the 'one tie rod' option. For more information, please reference TSB 19-001-19." The vehicle in reference has been mostly serviced at Davis-Moore (7675 E. Kellogg, Wichita, KS 67207 [316] 618-2268). This is the first time I took this vehicle to FIRESTONE who pointed out the above information. Please, let me know if this is a safety issue and, if it is, please take the necessary steps to enforce a solution to that issue. Thank you.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
