2018 Ram 2500 complaints

While driving with cruise control activated the Service ABS light came on and made an audible ding and the cruise control deactivated resulting in a loss of speed traveling along an interstate highway. This has happened several times, and no time frame to get fixed.

Bought secondhand at auction with low mileage. Had checked outbytrusted mechanic, all was well. Vehicle records showed brand new transmission on truck. Transmission slipped after service. From July 2022 to today (December 2023) have had to replace transmission FOUR TIMES at great expense. Went to dealership and found no recall notice, they are offering to purchase truck for $7500 cash. Purchase price was approximately $33000 plus about $15,000 in repairs/new transmission replacements and cost of rental vehicle in the thousands as this was a truck purchased for a business. Please issue a recall for this vehicle! This has put a huge dent in our small business and we still don’t have a functional truck!

The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving 65-70 MPH, the "Service Anti-Lock Braking System" message was displayed, and an audible chime sounded. The contact was able to continue driving. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the ABS module and the ABS pump had failed and needed to be replaced; however, the parts were not available for repair. The vehicle was taken to an unknown second dealer, where it was diagnosed, and the same assessment was made. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

Abs control module had went out twice in 3 years and hydrolic unit causing brakes to fail

This truck has just over 40k miles and the hydraulic control unit and the anti-lock brake system module has failed 3 times. The first failure was at 28k miles, the second failure was at 36k miles, and the third failure was at 40k miles. When the systems fail ABS, Traction Control, and Cruise Control are all disabled. The problem is easily reproducible by the dealer, and at the 3 RAM dealerships I have been to, the service managers all say this is a problem that plagues all 2017-2018 RAM 2500 and 2018-2019 RAM 3500 trucks. If you at any of the RAM forums or Facebook groups you will see this is a very common failure that leaves the owner without ABS or Traction Control, which is very dangerous when using the truck for its intended purpose (hauling trailers). This problem is so common that the part is commonly on backorder for 3-6 months. When I went to the dealer after my latest failure in Nov 2023, I was told the part would not be available until sometime in the summer of 2024. The the failure occurs the ABS and Traction Control Light come on, and you get a message that says "Service Electronic Braking System". RAM really needs to redesign the part(s) and issue a recall for this. The contact stated that the vehicle has yet to be repaired.

ABS warning light comes on and off again. Each time it comes on, the cruise control turns off. This continues to happen -- going on and off. This is unsafe as the trucks cruise control stops functioning without warning.

ABS module failure preventing appropriate operation of the ABS and traction control systems. Ongoing problem for multiple months/years

Took my Vehicle to dealer for abs and traction light displayed on dash. Dealer states my truck needs a new HCU and control module. At 28,000 miles these same parts had to be replaced for same issue. The truck now has 63,000 miles. To top it off abs, cruise control and 4x4 does not work or quits working when this warning is displayed. It’s absolutely ridiculous how many ram 2500-3500 owners are having this issue over and over. I would hope you all will step up and demand a recall be performed.

Traction control and abs warning lights flash on and off intermittently also cruise control not working when this happens. It is sporadic

The truck randomly started flashing service electrical anti skid braking system. It will go on and off randomly and other times stay on all the time. It will not allow cruise control to work and I’m guess my ABS will not work either if I need it. I bought the truck with 132K miles on it and the light starting coming on at 134K miles. I don’t want to possibly injury others or myself is the ABS does not work. I took it to the dealership and the light went out and they couldn’t see any codes. The light is back and almost always on. Going to take it back to the dealership. To see if they know what is wrong since this is a known issue with most Ram trucks.

Intermittent “service brake system” comes on. Spoke to dealership and said they do not have the part to fix the brake system. It is on back order being “re-engineered” and have no indication when it will become available.

On 15 Nov 2023, my ABS and Traction Control warning lights illuminated. I took my 2018 RAM 2500 Tradesman Diesel truck to my servicing dealership (Fayetteville Dodge Ram, Fayetteville, NC) that afternoon and was told I needed to replace the ABS Module (Mopar OEM 68347098AB) and Hydraulic Control Unit HCU (Mopar OEM 68143491AB) . The dealership's parts department told me there was a backorder of about 4,000 of these parts nationwide. I attempted to obtain these parts through Mopar Parts Overstock and was told the same thing. After many internet searches, I find that this issue is wide-spread and potentially dangerous. I am now driving my truck with this brake defect, although my dealership assures me the braking system is safe to operate. Why is there not a recall on this wide-spread issue?

The truck intermittently shows an alarm for failure of the abs braking system. This suddenly shuts off the cruse control and disables the abs. The loss of cruse control caused the truck to suddenly drop in speed in a highway traffic situation, which nearly caused a car behind me to hit me. The loss of abs leaves the truck vulnerable to brake related accidents in slippery or wet weather. I contacted a dealer for the replacement parts and they told me they would not be available until a new generation of abs module and hydraulic control unit were available. I believe the NHTSA should demand a recall for this extensive and dangerous issue.

Twice the ABS hydraulic control unit has become faulty and no unavailability of parts. The “issued warning” from Chrysler corp is be weary as the truck no longer has cruise control, 4 wheel drive, and a warning light and audible alarm that comes and goes to on/off every two to three seconds causing an immense amount of mental irritation while driving. This vehicle has been looked at twice by dealerships have diagnosed and also charged me every time to hook up to their diagnoses (around 200$). I have called RAM cares who is nothing more the a shell of the company to appear as though they care but of are little to no help. So recap, I have a ($60,000) truck that is the equivalent of a base model s10 ($15,000)(basic model truck) because one part has made it impossible to use the truck in its fully designed capacity. No four wheel drive, no cruise control, and a dinging and flashing light that happens every 2 seconds and a message that say service electronic braking system. I would upload a video but you can literally google “HCU ram 2500 problem” and a slew of videos will pop up. Maybe someone at either this organization or Chrysler will actually care and start holding people responsible for this problem and issuing a [XXX] fix. Warning Lights for "Service Electronic Braking System" and "Service Antilock Brake System" come on and off indicating repairs to module necssary; however, Ram/Dodge can't schedule repairs for over a year in most locations. This is an ongoing problem and it appears to be affecting thousands of owners of Ram pickups. The code is C0020-001. The ABS/Traction control light comes on - a message to service the Anti-Lock braking system comes on - and the cruise control does not work. This happens intermittently sometimes several times in a minute, sometimes it's several times a day and sometimes it will stop for 2 or 3 days without the warning lights coming on at all. It's very frustrating and unnerving as the cruise control just drops out while you're driving which is not safe. The ABS also does not function with this issue. This issue needs to be addressed. Additionally Ram/Dodge dealers indicate this is a well known problem and that there are parts shortages for this repair due to the amount of Ram pickups having this issue, the parts are in short supply with everyone needing to make this repair. Please require Ram issue a recall. This is not safe.

My ABS module and HCU are acting up. Warning lights on dash keeping going on and off intermittently stating service Anti Lock Brake system and Service Electronic Braking System. Traction Control loss warning light accompanies these lights. I have had the module replaced twice already and still not working. Was told yesterday (Dec 07,2023) by warrant repair facility that there is a new upgraded part available and to file a complaint. These problems started in October of 2023.

ABS control module failure leading to loss of anti-lock brakes. The vehicle is available for inspection. Yes, the truck has become uncontrollable under emergency braking situations. Yes, the problem was confirmed by the dealer, but there is apparently no remedy available for at least another year. This is the second time the ABS/HCU module has failed. The first instance was fixed by the dealer in 2021. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. The warning lamps first appeared when emergency braking. They are now intermittent, with no consistency as to whether the ABS system is active or not.

The “Service anti-lock brakes” indicator comes on constantly. It is unknown whether there is a problem with the brakes. The replacement part is on back order and appears to be months behind

2018 Ram with brake module problems. In September 2022, warning lights came on stating that the antilock brake system and electronic brake system were failing. At this time the problem was known to the dealership and parts were found and replaced under my extended service contract. Parts replaced were the: Module, Anti-Lock Brake(68347098AB) and the Control, Anti-Lock Brake System(98143491AA). Replacement was done at Payne Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Edinburg with Mopar parts. Replacement was done September 15th, 2022 service repair order #565792. Mileage at the time of repair was 38,538. On November 5th, 2023 the exact same symptoms appeared. On November 28th, the truck was diagnosed at Payne CPDJR with needing the exact same parts replaced. Mileage at this point was 41,998. Clearly, this is a serious problem if the exact same parts need to be replaced after less than 4,000 miles. This is obviously a dangerous and ongoing issue that needs to be addressed. I have been advised not to take the truck outside the local area until repairs are effected. I have a truck because we live on the road full time and use it to tow our 5th wheel(total weight is 9,800 pounds fully loaded which is easily within the trucks towing capability). As of today, December 8, 2023 I was advised that the parts were at least 2 weeks out. I contacted Chrysler customer care and opened a complaint. When the modules show failure, the cruise control is inoperative and it is advised to take the truck into a dealer

The radio screen has delaminating which causes random pushing of buttons on the display. This is a known issue with dodge radios and has been labeled as “ghost screen”. This is a major concern during the day as well at night while trying to drive. The distraction from the constant screen changing is a major concern. It is unavoidable to focus on the screen instead of the road while this is happening. Dodge knows of this problem and the repair cost is unaffordable. I feel for the safety of drivers and people on the road, this needs to be addressed. I have videos of this occurring but am not able to upload videos, only photos which do not show the event happening. I would like the chance to be contacted so I can share the video of this happening to express my concern, as well as the concern of many others. Thank you

My ABS and Traction Control lights keep coming on and cruise control will not work when the lights are on. This has been occurring for the past few years. The lights are on most of the time and I’m afraid my abs breaks will not work properly especially when i’m pulling a trailer. This is an ongoing problem with 2018 Ram 2500s. Ram needs to remedy this problem.

ABS Module Failure. Truck is available for inspection upon request. The ABS Module Failure directly effects the safety of all occupants and other vehicles on the road if not able to stop as intended to. The problem is confirmed by a dealer. There were no warning lamps until the ABS Module failed and needs to be replaced. This is a standard issue that needs to be recalled.

My ABS System has failed and will not operate whiteout changing the ABS Module and the Hydraulic Control Unit. These units are not available and when they are available fail again when install. Need a recall from Dodge on this issue.

Warnings About Service Electronic Brake System. (ABS and Traction control lamps light), system audible pings. Issue where system continues to show, ping for this issue. RAM is aware of these issues and will not provide parts. Concerned about safety, brakes seem to work fine, just unsure.

Abs module is out again. Second time in just over a year since I replaced it last time. This is an ongoing issue and numerous people locally are complaining, so national has to be thousands. Ram is aware of the issue but not fixing.

My ABS module is faulty and there are no available replacements. RAM is aware of this issue when I called my dealership and they have no solution. The ABS is all screwed up and people are reporting this all over the internet. RAM needs to address this situation with their customers and fix the faulty ABS repair module.

I just bought a 2018 ram 2500 tradesman yesterday and had the abs light came on today and stayed on. Read comments online and was advise to report this issue as a safety issue and possible class action law suit potential. Seems like many people have the same issue even with a barely use vehicle.

ABS/Traction Control Module failed. 2019-2021 trucks recalled but 2015-2018 trucks with same issue not recalled. Started having issues first in a rain storm towing 32 foot camper with family on board. Cost me $760 to repair at Montrose Jeep Dodge Ram in Kingsville, Ohio.

ABS light and traction control warning on dash. Truck has been in shop previously for the same issue. This causes my truck to lose cruise control at highway speeds and to not have traction control capabilities when driving on wet roads. I will be taking the truck back in to the shop this week as this is occurring at all times and does not stop dinging.

ABS and traction control lights are on, scanned and got code c002-01. Unsure if system is working. Verified by shop, needs a new hcu but none available to fix, no time line on when parts will be available.

ABS and traction control intermittently shows a warning light. This may not happen at all while driving or it may happen a few times or constantly. When this happens it disables the cruise control without warning.

The Asb light comes on when pushing the breaks and when hinting a bump it is hard to stop .

ABS AND SKID CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS CONSTANTLY COMING ON AND OFF FOR NO REASON. HAD CHECKED OUT AND RECOMMENDED A REPLACEMENT MODELER, AT MY COST. TRUCK DOES NOT EVEN HAVE 30,000 MILES YET. IT NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS.

ABS and Traction control lights on dash light up sporadically (dings on and off continuously) and cruise control suddenly turns off. No warning and can be completely random. This is part of the ABS pump control module issue commonly reported but no recall. Attempted to have it repaired, multiple parts have been tried (used and remanufactured, because not new parts are available.

ABS and/or traction control lights turning on intermittently while driving, This is the 3rd time it has happened to me on this truck.

ABS traction control problem light comes on intermittently while driving. Cruise control will disengage when ABS traction control light is activated. The ABS traction control light is activating more often while driving.

Had brake module replaced under warranty at the dealer and less than 10k miles later it’s doing the exact same thing again. Abs is not working, alarm constantly chiming while driving and abs and electronic brake malfunction lights coming on in the dash. Truck still has less than 48,000 miles on it cause I’m scared for my family’s safety so we just don’t drive it anymore. Is a shame we have a truck we can’t use that we have paid for for this long and still can’t use due to a safety concern that the dealer won’t repair again cause the time limit has expired on the parts warranty.

Service abs system immediately popped up on information screen, also abs and traction control lights all at the same time. This disengages cruise control and removes digital speed reading. Almost got tailgated.

Random ABS and service traction control system lights displayed on the dash. Dealer troubleshot and found that the ABS module and Hydraulic control unit (HCU) need replaced. This is a common issue based on the dealers comments and ram does not have an adequate fix for the issue, only replacing components to see future failures. This needs to be handled, as it deactivates the ABS system and may cause issues in the event of a hard braking condition.

This is my 4th HCU/ABS Failure. 3 Priors were replaced/reported in FEB/March to NHTSA. ABS / HCU System Failed. My safety was directly impacted. Various warnings and lights on the dash lit up with "Service Electronic Braking System". When the ABS / HCU system has an issue, it deactivates the cruise control, ABS System, traction control, and parking detection system. This can cause a sudden and unexpected deceleration or loss of vehicle control, as the traction control system also shuts off without warning. The dealer is able to verify the issue. I have taken the truck to the dealer, who is reporting a part shortage and multi-month backorder for the part. This is a huge safety issue, and could have killed me and my children. This should become an immediate recall since it directly impacts the safety features of the vehicle as well as the cruise control system, which may suddenly deactivate and cause sudden deceleration. Various warning lamps display. BRAKE, ABS, Traction CONTROL.

This vehicle has failure of the ABS module and the ABS HCU. This is due to a manufacturing default. This causes the APS and traction light to come on the dash along with service electric brake system in the message center. At this time on 11 -24-2023 this is such a big issue you are unable to get the parts to repair the vehicle and there is over 3,600 units on backorder when you contact dealers. Because of the failure this prevents safe breaking of the vehicle
