Intermittent issues with hydraulic control unit and abs control module

The ABS Light along with the EBS light were popping up on the dash every 2-3 seconds. My cruise control quit working. The truck is steadily dinging. I am sure the ABS will not function when this light is on. I am worried the truck will not handle well on wet roads. I have a [XXX] and a [XXX] . Please help me resolve this issue. The code I am getting is C0020 INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

This is 3rd time I have had ABS failed. Truck only has 66,000 miles on it and this has happened for 3rd time. Has been twice repaired by Ram dealer in Denham Springs Louisiana. Evidently parts are defective. I am original owner. First time happened at 24,700 miles. Second time at 48,200 miles. Third time at 66,000 miles. Evidently bad parts.

The Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) Traction Control warning light and warning bell comes on after hitting bump in road or just randomly. Anti-lock brakes no longer work and it is a safety hazard. this issue back at about 78,000 miles. This is an ongoing safety problem with Ram 2500's and there is no recall by the manufacturer for a known defective part.

The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ABS system and Service Electronic Braking system messages were displayed. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the ABS module had failed and needed to be replaced; however, the dealer informed the contact that the part was not available to do the repair. The contact stated that the failure persisted while driving. The vehicle was taken to a second dealer, Hayes Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM of Lawrenceville (719 Duluth Hwy #120, Lawrenceville, GA 30046); where the vehicle was diagnosed and it was determined that the ABS module had failed and needed to be replaced; however, the dealer informed the contact that the part was not available to do the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the ABS module was under engineering review. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

Driving down the road and the radio randomly changes stations or turns on heated seat or heated steering wheel. It just depends what screen the radio is on.

ABS module causes abs light to periodically come on and shut off from time to time.

First abs control module was replaced at 27k miles, now the second abs control module has failed again and needs replaced at 49k miles. There are many of these truck that these modules have failed on and the abs will not work.

ABS warning lights keep flashing in my truck, dodge has no fix for this problem, all they say is parts are in redesign and unable. what can be done here?

ABS brakes

The ABS and traction control light flash and sound repeatedly. As well as loss of trailer brake control. This is the second time the vehicle has done this. The first time I fixed it as Fam said it wasn’t covered by the warranty. I replaced the ABS module and HCU on my own dime. This is a major safety concern and should be treated as such.

“Service ABS” and “Service Electric Brake System” cautions alerts accompanied by warning chime, traction control and cruise control failures. Known issue with the Hydraulic Control Unit on this model. Dealer couldn't get parts as they were back ordered and now when available the price has tripled. Replacement parts seem to have the same issue. This started with about 25,000 miles on the vehicle.

ABS and traction control module defect. Dealer says repair not a recall.

ABS and Traction Control Warning lights keep Dinging, almost hit someone an actual person ABS fluttered and failed locked up brakes and missed person by inches. MFG is saying this is NOT a safety issue? When will is be a safety issue missing someone, Killing Someone or crashing my truck and missing myself?

I have been driving my truck around and my abs light keep coming on and off and traction control kept shutting of and it was raining and today out of nowhere it flickered on at a turn and almost caused me to hit a wall and braking C0020-01 is the code i got at oreillys today

Abs/hcu on the braking system has failed twice in the 3 years I've owned this truck.

Timely as my 2018 2500 seems affected. I've performed no troubleshooting but it is extremely intermittent, either the Service the ABS or Service the Electronic Braking System(s). Usually, a bump in the road makes it come and another turns it off. Sometimes it happens so quickly, only the message and traction control disabled light comes on, sometimes only the chime comes in. Sometimes the message stays up and the brake warning and traction control light comes on, sometimes for a few minutes, sometimes a couple of seconds. Always goes away with an ignition cycle. If it's on long enough. For some period of time, it came in when I turned the truck on and off when I released the parking brake. Annoying.

Failure of abs / hec control module of abs /traction control system ...part has been on order for over 2 plus years only 15 k miles and failed .This would result in accident of abs not working properly .

The contact stated while driving at various speeds, an alarm sounded and a message indicating the anti-lock braking system failure was displayed, causing the adaptive cruise control mode and the traction control to disengage. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal and continued driving. The contact stated that the failure occurred intermittently while driving. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and slamming on the brakes, the rear wheels locked-up and the vehicle made a squealing sound. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.

Failure of traction control and ABS system. Causes loss of control in wet and snowy weather. Receiving C0020-01 ABS Pump Motor Control General Electrical failure code.

The abs module has gave me issues and now has gone completely out causing no brakes and while it was having intermittent issues causes no cruise control and causes transmission issues which is another thing the transmission has went out again after this is the 3rd time replacing at around 10k everytime

The ABS and Traction control system which is operated through the ABS Module intermittently goes on and off alerting the ABS and Traction control systems are not functional. This causes the Anti-lock braking system and Traction control system to no longer function limiting function under wet or slippery conditions. This puts me the driver and others at risk.

In 2022 the abs and traction control lights began to come on together, leading to loss of ABS and traction control in addition to not being able to use the cruise control. Vehicle was taken to the dealer to be serviced and they stated they would replace the HCU but would not replace the ABS module as they would only address one thing at a time. The problem continues to persist with the constant alarm ding and loss of abs and traction control as the lights continue to flash on the dash. This is a safety issue as you don't know when you'll have abs or traction control and if it happens while driving with the cruise control on, it abruptly shuts down the cruise control.

The warning lights for my ABS and traction control come on and off while driving normal driving conditions. Every time they flash it also has an audible ding that is very distracting. If I am using the cruise control when this happens the cruise control will turn off. The ABS system does not work when the lights come on. I am afraid I will be unable to stop. I took it to a local dealer and they confirmed that the HCU unit is defective and needs to be replaced at a price of $1300.

My family and I were on a trip out of town in the fall ,this oct, when suddenly as we were braking and the trucks break system started flashing on and off saying service brakes failure antilock the bells kept chiming we were scared to death with bell chiming on and off and lights flashing on the dash we stopped along the side of a busy highway camper and all and go what is going on should we continue or make a call for help. I shut the engine off and started it back up and everything was fine. so we started down the road and it returned after a couple of miles so we did this over and over but finally it just kept dinging until we made it home now two weeks later have not driven the truck now two weeks later . found out that this truck has a history of this . by the way this truck only has 13000 miles on it not driven in winters and all highway use. yes but out of warranty with a dangerous breaking issue at again 13000 miles

ABS / TRACTION CONTROL dash light error. Light code C0020-01. ABS CONTROL MODULE.

The ABS/Traction lights/Bell keeps alarming on my dash. The ABS HCU needs to be replaced. I have found out from research on line that RAM knows about this and chooses to do nothing about it. It mainly affects the 2017 and 2018 RAM 2500's. They switched manufactures for the ABS/HCU during those two years and the parts are inferior and constantly fail causing the ABS to be inoperable causing a serious safety concern.

While driving the service ABS System/ Traction control dash warning message appears on the screen & chimes at the same time. The cruise control then shuts off. At first it was intermittent then it was almost all the time. With winter coming soon the ABS/Traction control will be much needed. After going online, it seems like this is a common problem with 2017-2018 Rams. After going to a Ram dealer in my area they replaced the HCU/ABS pump. I feel that if this is a common problem it should be addressed with a recall to avoid potential vehicle control problems

Warning lights for ABS and traction control coming on with message to 'Service Electronic Braking System'. During this time the ABS does not work and cruise control stops working. Being a 2500 vehicle, it is commonly used for towing trailers as it has a towing capacity up to ~16K lbs. Suddenly not having ABS and traction control is dangerous. In July 2024 I was driving from Phoenix, AZ to East Texas with a ~10K lbs trailer and this issue suddenly started popping up. This is the first time I experienced this with this vehicle. I understand there is a known issue with the hydraulic control unit and the ABS modules for 2017-2018 2500 & 3500 models yet there has been no recall on these vehicles.

UNKNOWN Service electronic ABS system light intermittently comes on and off hundreds of times in a ten mile drive. I am reporting this due to finding out that this problem is affecting many many other 2018 Ram owners.

The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving at approximately 35 MPH, the diagnostic trouble codes P24B0, P24B5, and P25C9 were displayed on the instrument cluster. The contact stated that he was able to continue driving. The contact stated that the diagnostic trouble codes were related to the smog and emissions system of the diesel engine. The contact stated that he occasionally towed an RV and was concerned about the towing load on the engine. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the Particulate Matter Sensor needed to be replaced; however, the part was not covered under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

I am getting a warning saying to service the anti lock brakes and the traction control. I have had this same issue before and paid the dealership to fix it. Also when the warning appears the cruise control shuts off. I am concerned about the loss of control of the vehicle.

The ABS dash light and traction control light started coming on about a year ago. the light is intermittent with a ding sound. Some days it comes on non stop, sometimes it doesn’t come on at all. cruise control does not work, and “park rear” button is not able to get out of the off mode.

Intermittent Electronic Brake System and ABS Failure messages. Been dealing with this issue for over a year now. Dealership told me I had to wait almost a year before there would be a fix and that’s if I’m lucky. The ABS pump motor and the software are both faulty and Ram is aware of how to fix it, and haven’t. There needs to be a recall for issue, ASAP.

The abs and electronic brake control lights keep going off and no abs it also shuts cruise control off when light come on. I pull a trailer a lot and brakes lock up and no abs. Very dangerous ,almost rear ended a vehicle on the interstate because traffic stopped all a sudden. Cannot believe there isn’t a safety recall yet there are numerous complaints about this problem.

ABS module failure, only 63000 km had to pay $1038.19 to have it replaced at Parksville Dodge Jeep and 194.14 to read the code that we already had done at another auto shop. I have a case number [XXX]. I have sent many screen shots of other owners having problems, websites, recalls , 22v140000, 24v4150000. The ABS sensor came on our extended warranty ended in November 2023, we took it to a mechanic shop and the code C0020-01 came up (no parts only Chrysler can replace hmm that’s a problem why?)we then phoned Chrysler in Parksville and took it in and they showed same code and said needed to order part only one was in Red Deer Alberta. This is obviously an issue with this truck as there is a class action suit alleging FCA breached its warranty by using ABS and HCU modules of subpar quality known to be unfit for ordinary purpose and not disclosing this issue to customers at the time of purchase. These modules are prone to premature failure due to defective materials used in their manufacture. The lawsuit states FCA knew about the defect thru extensive pre-sale testing and numerous NHTSA complaints, there is a Technical Service Bulletin regarding the faulty ABS and HCU, despite issuing the TSB, FCA failed to issue a recall. The hearing is scheduled for December 17, 2024. We would like all costs associated with the replacement of this module paid for by Chrysler Canada. I want a recall issued for my vehicle and a cheque to reimburse me as this is clearly an issue. INFORMATION REDA

I'm getting warning lights to service abs system and traction control, also cruise control and 4 wheel wheel drive will not engage. Dealer replaced abs control module while truck was under warranty and now at 58000 miles I'm having the same problem as I did when it was fixed earlier. This is a safety Hazzard and a recall needs to be done because theses vehicles were built for towing heavy loads and you loose your abs and traction control when trying to stop heavy loads.

As I am driving, (2018 ram 2500 6.7l with 45000 miles) the “service electronic brake system” and “service automatic brake system” will flash on and off intermittently. I took it to the dealership and they stated possibly the HCU. But since the codes flash intermittently and at completely random times they couldn’t say fer sure. But it does have to do with HCU system. I did a quick google search and discovered this is a recurring issue with the 2017-2018 Ram models.

Driving on interstate highway with cruise control engaged. Experienced rapid deceleration as cruise control disengaged without driver input. Received anti-lock braking error / service electronic braking system error. Was very dangerous situation to have occur unexpectedly and could have easily resulted in rear end collision or loss of control of vehicle. Received no warning prior to this failure. Issue has been sporadic but occurring more frequently. Vehicle has less effective braking in adverse road conditions. Never know when the anti lock brake system will be functional. A bump or vibration in the road can cause it to engage or disengage. Ram dealer service dept indicates Hydraulic Control Unit needs to be replaced. Looking online, I see this is an exceptionally common occurence in same year/make vehicles. So much so that the replacement part is backordered for months.

It's clear that my abs module is bad but it consists of three components. Mopar online doesn't have any components available to fix the problem. And the Dealer is selling the components separately and telling you which one they will sell you first and also at a higher price than what's available to you online

ABS/traction control warning lights and alarm intermittently on and off during driving, speed control does not work during the alarm cycle. ABS not working when warning comes on

While driving the PU with my camper in tow, the ABS and Service electronic bakes system warning were displayed on my dash. Then they went out. This process repeated several times over the next 3-4 minutes. Then the warning lights came on and stayed on. It remained that way until I parked on the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. I checked the undercarriage for any signs of any visible damage to the braking system. None was readily identifiable. Upon restarting the vehicle, all warning lights were extinguished. I proceeded to the campgrounds with out further warnings on this system. The next day, with out the camper in tow, the warning lights were again active flashing on and off for a period of about 3-4 minutes before they again came on and stayed on. This process repeated itself as I would turn off the vehicle and then restart it. Upon parking for the evening they were still on. When I started again the next day, they were off.

Uconnect screen not working properly due to delamination. When driving the screen will ghost click creating a beeping sound with every ghost click. This could be several hundred peeps per minute. The back up camera will come on while driving forward. In bad weather when you want the defrosters on it will not allow it or stay on defrost. It will switch to all different vent positions, change the air temps so you can't get your window clear. If you try and change it, it will immediately change it. I was pulling a 5th wheel through the mountains and it started to pour rain. I desperately needed defrost and it would not work properly for this reason. If you turn off the screen it will turn right back on. If you turn the volume down to zero you still hear beeping. This is very distracting as a driver. I can't even turn the radio or system off. The radio constantly is changing station and switching from FM to AM or Siri. You can't do anything to stop this ghost clicking.

There seems to be an issue with my ABS and Electronic Braking System, because both lights are blinking on and off saying to service them. It started while I was driving down a gravel road, then will shut off and back on. I drove nearly 500 miles with the ABS and Electronic Braking System sending me this message off and on again. I noticed when it was on that my ABS was not working properly, but when the light was off it was. I tested it several times to verify that it worked when the lights was off and that it didn't when the lights were on.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the ABS sensor had failed and replaced the ABS light. While driving approximately at55 MPH and decelerating, the contact applied the brake pedal but failed to respond. The vehicle was coasted to a stop. The vehicle was returned to the same dealer who had diagnosed that the calipers had failed. The brakes, brake pads, routers, and calibers were replaced. Approximately, 6 months later the contact noticed the vehicle failed to reverse. The vehicle app notes brake system failure, anti-brake system, ABS failure, and tire pressure failure warnings displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to confirm a diagnosis however had assumed the reverse piston rods may have failed. The contact was informed the repair may take up to 2 weeks due to limited parts. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 111,000.

ABS and service electronic breaking system lights all come on. I loose 4 wheel drive and cruise control as well as traction control. Happened at about 55000 miles had fixed now happened again at 95000 miles. Breaking is not as good as it should be!

I had warning lights come on service abs brake system. They replaced abs control module at around 30000 miles under warranty, and now at 58000 I'm getting the warning again. Abs doesn't work, traction control doesn't work and cruise control doesn't work. This makes the truck very unsafe especially when towing which truck is designed for. There needs to be a recall done on this problem.
