I purchased my Ram 1500 5.7 2022 new last year. The vehicle has experienced multiple electrical failures. The infotainment screen stopped working, causing the backup camera to become inoperative. The horn no longer functions, the air conditioning stopped working, and the power windows will not roll down. These failures occurred without warning. The loss of the backup camera and horn creates a significant safety concern because they are important safety features. I am reporting this issue so NHTSA can determine whether this represents a safety-related defect affecting other Ram 1500 vehicles.

The contact owns a 2022 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the front driver’s side turn signal was intermittently inoperable. No warning light was illuminated. An unknown dealer was contacted, and the contact was informed that the headlight assembly needed to be replaced; however, the vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.
Two week Monday July 6, around 3:15pm while driving down on highway passing lane suddenly the vehicle start loosing speed and after few seconds I noticed that the engine stalled. No warning light or anything, the steering wheel turns to very heavy and the break pedal is really hard as well. Fortunately near by there was a U-turn lane for authorized vehicles only and I was able to merge to it and stop. After that I was able to start the vehicle immediately with no issues. Behind me there were at least 10 other cars trying to pass a line of semi trucks and I was lucky to nobody crash on my rear. I took the vehicle to the dealer, they run tests and tried to reproduce but no success. Besides the dealer no one checked anything due to there was no substantial damage or anything. Actually this was the second time that the vehicle engine stalled. First time was couple months back while my wife was driving in low speed trying to move out from a stopping light and the engine stalled.
The engine intermittently stalls when I press the accelerator. When this happens, the vehicle loses power, the AutoPark/electronic parking brake engages, and the battery warning light appears. This has happened more than once and creates a serious risk of a collision or being stranded if it occurs in traffic. The vehicle is a 2022 Ram 1500 Rebel with the 5.7L eTorque system. The manufacturer’s records show customer satisfaction campaign Z49 as completed, but the stalling problem continues. The symptoms appear similar to those under NHTSA investigation PE24-018. The vehicle is available for inspection.
When i am driving and going left through a roundabout a few minutes from my house my engine just shuts off, no warning lights on the dash. this has now happened twice this year (2026) most recent was Tuesday 7/7/26, i have 38,089 miles on it. there were cars behind me both times luckly both times i was able to stop as the light was red just after the roundabout put it in park and it started right up. the dealer thinks it could be somthing in the area that has the same frequency as my truck. this is becuse his aunt had a ford that when she went to the same local convenience store her car wouldn't start up and that dealer said it was the same frequency as the fuel pumps at that store. im not buying that.
Traveling down I64 Eastbound towing a 24' enclosed trailer loaded with 2 RZRs in my 2022 Ram 1500 Limited, a check engine light came on. I decided I'd get off at the next exit to have it looked at as we're one hour into a 3.5 hr drive. Within one or two mins of the check engine light dinging, another dash light came on in the form of a red battery with a lightning bolt. I had no idea what that was, but immediately after that light coming on, every light on the dash started blinking and the burnt electric smell flooded the cabin. I immediately put on the hazard lights and started to pull onto the shoulder and slow it down...but the brake pedal went to the floor and I had no brakes. I then steered the truck off the shoulder and into the grass and the soft ground (it was raining) helped slow it down, but we had to jump out of the truck before it had stopped as the overwhelming white smoke was about to asphyxiate us. The truck was down to about 5 mph when we had to jump out. The truck was completely engulfed in flames within just a few mins.
We purchased a Rhino USA Adjustable Trailer Hitch with locking hitch pins on Amazon. On its very first use, while towing our empty 1,600-pound Forester camper, the steel pin fractured where it enters the locking head. We heard the pin snap while making a slow turn about a quarter mile from our home. The locking head detached and was later found on the roadway. Fortunately, the pin remained in the receiver long enough for us to get home, but this could easily have resulted in the ball mount sliding out of the receiver and a trailer separation. We have retained both pieces of the failed pin and have photographs. Because the locking head detached and was found on the roadway, while the remaining pin stayed in the receiver only by chance, this failure had the potential to allow the ball mount to exit the receiver during travel which could be deadly to those on the highway. We have reported this to the manufacturer, but have not heard from them yet.
The power steering rack/steering gear malfunctioned on my 2022 Ram 1500 at approximately 25,000 miles. Repair estimate is about $4,000. This appears to be a premature steering-system failure and creates a safety concern because steering assist failure can affect vehicle control.
Around May 22, 2026 While driving on the interstate the high voltage battery/ hybrid battery failed and the main battery stopped charging and the vehicle went into battery saver mode and the vehicle stalled. Its been at the dealership for over 30 days due to part backorder and isn’t projected to be available until Aug 5.
The contact owns a 2022 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the electronic stability control disabled warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed; however, the diagnostic result was unknown. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V653000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 46,000.
The power steering failed abruptly. The problem is in the electronic power steering rack. The warning light appeared simultaneous with the failure. Fortunately, the failure occurred in a parking lot rather than on the road. The truck is very difficult to steer without power steering.
Failed Component: The Motor-Generator Unit (MGU) of the 48V eTorque mild-hybrid system, which acts as the vehicle's alternator and starter generator.System Affected: The electrical, charging, and powertrain systems. Sudden Engine Stalling: The vehicle suffered a complete loss of motive power without warning while traveling at highway speeds.Loss of Critical Controls: When the engine died, the truck lost power steering assist and power brake assist, making a 5,000-pound vehicle incredibly difficult to steer or stop. Status:vehicle at the dealership, failure was confirmed by John Hiester Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Lillington. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership technicians. Dashboard Warning Lights: The Battery/Charging System light (red battery icon) and the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (Check Engine Light) illuminated on the instrument cluster. Notifications on dashboard of no power steering and ABS.
I was leaving work driving 50 mph when the right side suspension broke loose and the right front tire and wheel came under the truck and all and the break system failed with no indication of anything being wrong.
The vehicle shut down and set the emergency parking brake while the vehicle was in motion at a rate of less than 15 mph. This has occurred 5 times. The first time it occurred the dealership said that it just required a software update. Every instance the vehicle was under 15 mph, and in the process of turning onto a road. There were no indications that this was going to happen before it occurred
The contact owns a 2022 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal odor inside the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the odor was like antifreeze. The contact attempted to locate and stop the leak using online fixes, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with heater core failure. The contact was informed that the heater core needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that after researching, the contact became aware that the failure was a known failure with similar vehicles. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 107,000.
Folded down the drivers side sun visor and it fell from the roof and was hanging by the wires that control the garage door opener. I could not see the road in front of me and had to pull over and push the stem back up in the bracket and leave it in the up position for it to stay in place.
The contact owns a 2022 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the Check Engine warning light illuminated, and the engine failed, causing the vehicle to become inoperable. The vehicle was able to restart and was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed with fuel injector failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 44,000.
*Fuel system stopped working. * About to jump on I95 and ended on the vehicle. Vehicle inoperable. *it's being inspected by dealer, however wont give me details. *No warnings, or codes..
My electronic steering system is acting up, sometimes it is very hard to steer the truck, there are no lights on or warnings. I understand that a lot of ram 1500 trucks have this same safety issue!
During the collision, the vehicle experienced a catastrophic component failure, specifically involving break intervention by ESP and the electronic stability control working correctly with the wheel speeds and impact of the top of the cab.
Electronic stability control and brake light came on and also brakes are now failing.
Radio failure, radio cutting out when music is turn up, safety related because there could be something shorting out and become a fire hazard, dealership and star team can fix and told there nothing they can do for and costumers service didn’t help either. Radio been replace and the amp, no warning lights at all, dealership sent me away and there was no sounding coming out the speaker, they seen the radio having problems
On [XXX] at around [XXX] I was driving my daughter to her dentist appointment on the [XXX] . I was on a phone call with my wife and suddenly the rear driver side windshield explodes with a loud pop. I was driving 55mph, scared, confused, and nearly crashed my vehicle. I got off the freeway and took photos of the window. The break in the window is unique as the 4 corners of glass are broken along with the center of the glass. It appears the frame of the glass was applying too much pressure and squeezed it out. There is an online petition for other owners that have experienced the same incident with their 2022 RAM [XXX] . Electronic power steering failed in a turn, and required a lot of force to make the turn, the eps had water in it after a flood, the part is backordered
The contact owns a 2022 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while The while driving approximately 75 MPH the check engine light had illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The message "stop vehicle and shift to park and restart" had displayed. After restarting the vehicle the contact drove to the local dealer The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 38,900.
The contact owns a 2022 RAM 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the right turn signal was activated; however the right turn signal did not function as intended. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, the vehicle was not inspected. The contact referenced an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not associated with a recall related to the failure. The contact was informed that the repair was not covered under a recall or warranty program. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 27,000.
On [XXX] at approximately [XXX], my 2022 RAM 1500 (VIN [XXX] ), equipped with the 5.7L V8 Hemi eTorque mild-hybrid system and currently at 45,000 miles, experienced a sudden engine shutdown and complete loss of throttle response while traveling approximately 25 mph on [XXX] , heading toward Colonia in active evening traffic. The accelerator pedal became unresponsive, the vehicle began coasting, and within seconds the truck shifted itself into PARK and engaged the parking brake automatically. I had to release the parking brake to move the vehicle off the road. After restarting, which required noticeably more cranking than normal, and disabling the auto-brake feature, I attempted to drive again. Within roughly 15 seconds the throttle was sluggish, the rear wheels chirped as the truck jerked and bucked, and the engine died a second time, again shifting into PARK and engaging the parking brake. The safety risk was significant: a sudden, uncommanded loss of motive power on a public road, followed by automatic PARK engagement and parking brake activation in active traffic, created a high risk of a rear-end collision and left me with no throttle control to safely position the vehicle. The only warning indication was a red battery icon that illuminated on the dashboard during the stall events themselves. There were no warning lights, messages, or other symptoms in the days or weeks leading up to the failure. I did experience a single similar stall some time ago during extremely cold
Am having issues with my 22 Ram 1500 limited 4x4 with the 5.7 HEMI MDS. there are issues with this engine since 2009. The MDS lifters and cam shaft do not get enough oil. They already replaced the cam shaft and oil pan pickup. Now they have my truck for over 3 weeks to replace the engine. The only problem is that they are replacing it with the same one and hoping again that nothing goes wrong. Called Ram and was basically told too bad. And i have another vehicle with the same engine and it's starting to do the same thing my engine was doing. Asked them to use non MDS so it won't happed again but was basically told too bad. Do not think this is fair since they have known about this problem since 09. If I would have known this,I would have not purchased the 2 vehicles. I think the resolution should be that they install non MDS parts now and when it happens to my 23 JEEP WAGONEER. Thank you and have a great day, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Purchased my used RAM October 2024. On 5 occasions the engine stalled while driving. Lost all power and rolled to a stop when the parking brake engaged. Most recent incident was May 17, 2026. I went to my dealer with this complaint May 14th, there were no codes and I was told truck was operating as designed. I am unable to duplicate the event - but it happens when I slow down and then speed up - Stop sign, parking lot etc. Potentially I could have run over someone or crashed or someone could have struck me. I received no warning before the stall. The check engine light did not come on. While stalled the following messages appeared on my dashboard 1. press brake and push button to start; 2. Shifter autocorrect active; 3. Park brake auto engaged press brake + push switch to release. The truck restarted but battery light remained on and the lightning bolt red light stayed on.
Part affected Coolant system-heater core and coolant engine components are prone to premature failure exposing driver and passengers to breathing in strong coolant fumes. Also engine temperatures rise to extremely high levels causing engine failure while driving causing potential for serious harm or death. The problem has been reproduced on a regular basis. The vehicle has been inspected. There is no warning signs or lamps unless your dash menu is set specifically to digital temperature settings. Extremely strong breathable coolant is obvious almost immediately when heat is activated. Thousands of online complaints are listed and to the Ram Stellantis Company. Costs are Thousands of dollars to try and repair
My son was driving down the road and the truck shut off in the middle turn lane. He safety was at risk because he was stranded in the middle of the road and everyone was driving around him. The truck was towed to the dealership and was found to have a faulty fuel pump. There was no warning light the truck just shut down.
The check engine light and the battery warning lights came on. Took it to the dealership and they diagnosed the problem to be the MOTOR GENERATING UNIT (MGU). This is a known problem with the ram truck. The parts to fix it are on back order at a minimum of 45 days.
The visors on both sides will just detach and unexpectedly fall from the roof of the truck while you are driving. They are fairly big and when they detach and fall it poses a risk of crashing. I have researched this and it seems to be a problem with many Ram trucks. I am very surprised there has not been a recall of this hazard yet. The drivers side visor fell off last June 2025. I was able to get it repaired at a Dodge dealership at no charge as it was under warranty still.
The vehicle appears to have common issue of heater core going out and leaking coolant, causing poisonous fume to be pushed through the ventilation system causing respiratory issues. During my research i noticed this is common and a costly issue which many drivers complain about and cars warrant does not repair this issue. Due to its safety and health concerns this matter should be looked into in Ram should be held accountable.
The contact owns a 2022 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel seized with no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the steering wheel became difficult to turn, and the electronic stability control warning light illuminated after the failure. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.
My car just stopped and turned off. On the screen it says service electronic stability control. And power steering unavailable and service immediately. I serviced the car on April 24th. I received the car April 29th and they said they had to flash the computers and it would take 1.5 hours. I paid 330 dollars. I drove the car off and 15-20 min later the car cut off. I called the dealership and told them and they said they have to get the car back in the shop. I have additional documents.
On April 27, 2026, I attempted to start my 2022 Ram under normal conditions. The vehicle became stuck in an abnormal ignition state between on and off and would not function properly. Shortly after, the vehicle began exhibiting erratic electrical behavior, including the power windows moving up and down on their own without input. At the same time, I lost control of the vehicle. The power steering locked, and I was unable to turn the wheel. The brake pedal also locked and could not be pressed. I attempted multiple times to shut the vehicle off using the push-button ignition, but it would only make a loud clicking sound and would not power down. The electrical system remained active and unresponsive. I also noticed a strong sulfur-like odor coming from the vehicle, consistent with a possible battery or electrical failure. Due to the loss of control, electrical malfunction, and odor, I determined the vehicle was unsafe to operate. AAA roadside assistance was called. The driver (Paul “Willie” from the Thunderbird office) also attempted to shut the vehicle off but was unsuccessful. He noted the sulfur smell and stated it appeared to be an electrical issue. Because the vehicle could not be placed in neutral, he used a screwdriver to access the manual panel and pull the neutral release cord to allow towing. The vehicle was towed to the dealership. Upon arrival, the key fob was taken into the office, but the truck remained running in the parking lot without the key fob present. This

The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and it was determined that the motor generator unit (MGU) had failed. The dealer confirmed the part had been on back order for six months. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about a loaner vehicle, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
My 2022 Ram 1500 TRX has recurring safety-related failures of the infotainment system affecting Uconnect 5 (12” screen). These issues are widespread in 2021–2024 Ram TRX and Ram 1500 models and began or worsened after forced over-the-air updates. The primary defect is black-screen failures while driving. When the screen goes black or freezes, the truck loses all functions controlled through the display, including HVAC/defrost, backup camera, vehicle settings, seat controls, and performance gauges. This creates an immediate safety hazard: I cannot adjust climate/defrost, cannot see the required rear-view camera when shifting to reverse, and cannot access key vehicle information. Owners across multiple years consistently report: • Black screens, freezes, and reboots • Loss of HVAC control and dual-zone functions • Backup camera not displaying • Backup camera freezing with picture • Vehicle/Apps tabs failing to open • Uconnect error messages • Smaller, harder-to-read gauges after updates • Wireless CarPlay/Android Auto failures • No option to decline or roll back OTA updates These failures distract the driver, remove access to federally required equipment (rear camera), and eliminate visibility and climate controls that directly affect safe operation. The system becomes unpredictable and unstable despite the vehicle being in motion. My vehicle experiences the same issues, including what was listed above Because this affects essential safety-related controls and visibility, I bel

Vehicle stalls when trying to accelerate. Stalled in the middle of intersection with on coming traffic numerous times
On 3/28/2026 my vehicle decided to engage the emergency brake, shift into park and turn engine off at the intersection with oncoming traffic approaching causing several vehicles to dangerously navigate around my vehicle to avoid an accident
Truck has stopped completely including brakes and truck shutting completely off three times, causing almost collisions three times now. This is an extreme safety risk, this vehicle was just purchased from dealer three month ago and all maintenance and recalls thus far have been dealt with
Turning left from a stop sign, engine turned off in the middle of the intersection and parking brake was automatically applied. max speed achieved approximately 5mph. Red Battery dash light was illuminated. Dash instructions were to press brake pedal and push park brake release button. after completing I was able to shift to park and restart the vehicle. Red battery dash light remained. After moving vehicle to a safe location I turning off the vehicle, waited ~20 seconds, and restarted it. battery light was good and digital voltage gauge showing 13.9V. no further issues on the commute to work.
Truck shut off and emergency brake came on the truck finally restarted after a few minutes i released parking brake and drove home luckily it happened in a empty parking lot
[XXX] I was local driving and my Ram truck got silent and engine died. I still had power steering. When I rolled to a stop the message said "press brake and put in park". The truck put itself in park before I pressed the brake pedal. It took 3 attempts to get my truck started. I drove to Walker dealer in Alexandria, La., and reported problem. Service advisor put a computer on the truck and it had a code. We made an appointment for 4-7-26 to get it resolved. I left my truck at the dealership at 8:30am and picked it up at 5pm. Advisor said they fixed a code and everything else checked out in OK status. That part was under warranty so no charge. The same thing happened last summer but I did not report it as I was able to start the truck and thought I had done something wrong. I am scared to make a trip anywhere and leave me stranded. I now make sure I have towing coverage. Because it is something that has to do with computers, I have to stay close to a dealership because their computer tools are proprietary. The truck gave no warning or indication of any kind. It just died. I keep all my paperwork from the dealership. I bought the truck with 2000 miles on it. The contact owns a 2022 Ram 1500 equipped with Goodyear Tires, Tire Line: Fortitude H/T Tires, Tire Size: 275/65/R18, DOT Number: 14BYJJK1R. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact became aware that all four tires were cracked on the sidewalls, and the treads were crumbling and separated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The contact was offered a discount on the purchase of a new set of tires. The contact stated that the tires were poorly manufactured and unsafe. The tires and vehicle failure mileage were approximately 17,900.
While going approximately 15 mph the truck shut off and said press brake to start like it does upon entry into the vehicle when it hasn’t been running, and then to put it in park. I had no gas and had to stop on the middle of the road to switch the truck into park, turn it all the way off, then restart it and then release the parking brake.
I was driving my Ram 1500 5.7L eTorque this morning (2022, ~36k miles). About 10 minutes in, I was stopped at a light and the truck shut down completely (engine, electric, etc.) There was no prior notice, nor was it having problems. When I tried to go as the light turned green, obviously the truck did not go. I noticed several panel lights come on, including the battery light. There was also a message that said something to the extent that the emergency brake had automatically engaged and needed to be released. After a minute, I was able to re-start the car and drive home. Cars behind me honked, and eventually went around me. I have an appointment to take the truck in, but no diagnosis as of now. I did research and read that this a known problem with the 5.7L eTorque, and that some trucks have been recalled (NHTSA Recall 23V-235) for similar issues, and there is also on ongoing investigation for others that were not part of the recall. My experience is similar to everything I've seen/read reported by other drivers (e.g., seemingly random stall with no prior warning, certain dash lights coming on, auto-engagement of the parking break).
2022 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7l Hemi coolant system issues. Every time I get out of my truck I smell coolant. Took it to Crain Dodge Ram & Jeep Benton, AR. The first time they pressure tested system and found no leaks. Told me it was normal! 1 week later, it's back and they could smell how bad it was.Still no leaks. I dropped it off and after 2 weeks, they haven't touched it. Finally after 3 weeks they send me a text saying that there is dirt in the coolant and needs to be flushed and will cost $400. Truck is still under the 60k mile bumper to bumper warranty. I told them that if there were no leaks, and my truck has never seen mud and rarely sees gravel, I did some research and found several TSB's on the coolant system being contaminated by engine oil and that there is also an issue with casting sand being left in the engine blocks after manufacturing process, and contaminats the coolant system and Jeep is having the same issue which is causing engine fires! I took screenshots of the TSB's I found online and sent them to the dealership. They refuse to address the issue and have not made any attempts to resolve the issue! I should not be held responsible for the engine manufacturer leaving casting sand in the block and is causing coolant issues in my truck! Why would a dealership, that I have bought 3 Ram trucks from, 2 suv's from, not even attempt to investigate the issues of coolant contamination that seems to be a recurring problem in these trucks! And how many other people hav

What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
