Defect. Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2016 - 2021 CLA-Class, GLA-Class, GLE-Class, GLS-Class, SLC-Class, A-Class, GT-Class, C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, CLS-Class, SL-Class, B-Class, GLB-Class, GLC-Class, and G-Class vehicles. Please refer to the Part 573 report for specific vehicle model details. The software design of the communication module may fail to communicate the correct vehicle location for the emergency call system (eCall) in the event of a crash.

Risk. Failure of the eCall system may result in emergency responders being dispatched to the wrong location, increasing the risk of injury following a crash.

Remedy. MBUSA will notify owners, and the communication module software will be updated by a dealer, or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. The recall began March 12, 2021. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2021020025.

Defect. Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2019 E450 4MATIC Wagon, 2017-2018 E400 4MATIC Wagon, and 2018-2019 E63S 4MATIC Wagon vehicles. The rear spoiler may detach.

Risk. If the spoiler detaches while driving, it can become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and correct the mounting of the spoiler, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began October 18, 2019. Risk. An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the passenger or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

Remedy. MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag module, free of charge. The recall began March 29, 2019. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372.

Defect. Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2017 Mercedes-Benz E300 4Matic, E300, E43 AMG, and E400 vehicles. The headlight horizontal adjustment screws on these vehicles may not be properly sealed behind a non-removable sealing cap to keep headlights from being readjusted. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Risk. If the headlight's horizontal aim is altered, a misaimed headlight may lead to an insufficiently illuminated roadway, which may increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy. MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will retrofit the sealing caps for the headlights, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in June 2018. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2018050012.

The driver's air bag may unexpectedly deploy due to insufficient grounding of the steering components if an electrostatic discharge occurs and the air bag clockspring is broken.

Risk. If the driver air bag inadvertently deploys, it can increase the risk of injury and a crash.

Remedy. MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will add sufficient grounding to the steering components, free of charge. The recall began in December 6, 2017. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-877-496-3691.

Defect. Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. In the event that the engine or transmission cannot turn over, the starting current limiter may overheat from the repeated attempts of the starter motor attempting to start the vehicle.

Risk. If the starting current limiter overheats, the surrounding components can melt, increasing the risk of a fire.

The pelvis air bag or the front passenger air bag inflator initiator may fail to ignite in the event of a crash.

Risk. If the pelvis airbag or the front passenger airbag does not deploy as intended in the event of a crash, the occupants have an increased risk of injury.

Remedy. MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected air bag modules, free of charge. The recall began March 2017. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372.

Defect. Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain model year 2017 E400 4Matic Coupe, E400 Convertible, E550 Coupe and E550 Convertible vehicles manufactured June 7, 2016, to September 8, 2016. On the affected vehicles, there may be insufficient clearance between the left catalytic converter and the composite underbody panel.

Risk. The insufficient clearance may cause the panel to melt, increasing the risk of a fire.

Remedy. MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the underbody panel, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began December 2016. Owners may contact Mercedes customer service at 1-800-367-6372.

The contact owns a 2017 Mercedes-Benz E400 Coupe. The contact stated that the silver metal coating on the seat release lever was rough and jagged on both driver and passenger sides of the two door vehicle. The contact's son had grabbed the front seat release lever to access the rear passenger’s side seat and cut his hand. The cut was approximately 2-3 inches long. No medical attention was needed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the contact was informed that the failure was common with the vehicle and that the coating was known to peel due to heat. The contact was concerned that the failure occurred as his vehicle was stored in the garage and sustained less heat exposure due to its maintenance/care. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 42,000.

Seat pressure sensor for supplemental restraint system (SRS) routinely fails. The system generates and error and disables the front passenger airbag. The condition clears when the vehicle is turned off. Sensors have been recalibrated multiple times. System still routinely fails.

Safety Issue. The Chrome on the lever to make the seat move forward to access the back seat has sharp razor blade ridges. It has cut my hand open multiple times as well as my wife and a friend. A lot of blood, this is a serious issue. When I brought my car to the Mercedes Service center the agent told me this is a known problem and he too has cut his hand open on customers cars. This is not from wear and tear, this lever is used in frequently, I see a lot of complaints on the blogs too. Mercedes will not fix it. The Part is only $270 but they want $650 to install it.

I was driving down the interstate when the panoramic sunroof suddenly shattered. Luckily my shade was closed but it is leaving me with a costly repair bill. I was not driving near any other vehicles, had not gone under an overpass, nor did a rock hit my roof. How could this happen and how can this be resolved? Who do I contact?

THIS IS A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE LACK OF RESPONSE BY MERCEDES BENZ IN REPLACING THE DEFECTIVE TAKATA PASSENGER AIRBAG. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT MERCEDES BENZ HAS ADDRESSED ONLY 35% OF RECALLED MODELS AS OPPOSED TO HONDA WHO HAS ALREADY RESPONDED TO 85% OF THE RECALLED MODELS, REPLACING THE DEFECTIVE AIRBAGS IN QUESTION. I CALLED THE DAYTONA MERCEDES BENZ DEALER WHEN I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE IN JANUARY 2019 REQUESTING THAT THE DEFECTIVE PASSENGER AIRBAG BE REPLACED. THEY REPLIED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE AND WOULD NOTIFY ME WHEN IT WOULD BE AVAILABLE. AS OF TWO DAYS AGO, OCTOBER 14, 2020 I HAD NOT HEARD FROM THE DEALER OR FROM MERCEDES BENZ. SINCE THEN I HAVE FOUND DOCUMENTATION AS TO THE DANGER OF THIS AIRBAG AND HOW IT HAS KILLED OR INJURED HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE. ARE WE EXPECTED TO DRIVE THIS CAR UNDER THESE CONDITIONS? DOES MERCEDES BENZ GIVE A HOOT ABOUT ITS CUSTOMERS? I AM NOT DRIVING MY CAR BECAUSE IT DOESN'T TAKE MUCH FOR THESE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. THE CAR HAS BEEN SITTING IN MY GARAGE EVEN THOUGH I AM PAYING TAXES AND INSURANCE ON IT. I AM 79 YEARS OLD LIVING ON A SMALL PENSION AND DO NOT THINK I WILL BE ABLE TO SELL THIS CAR WITH THIS RECALL PENDING. YESTERDAY I CALLED MERCEDES BENZ CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY REPLIED THAT THE PART WILL BE AVAILABLE IN NOVEMBER 2020. THE SALESMAN TOLD ME THE AIRBAG RECALL WAS OF NO HARM. LATER I READ THE INFORMATION ON YOUR WEBSITE THAT THIS RECALL OF THE AIRBAG COULD CAUSE HARM AND DEATH. NOTHING HAS HAPPENED HOWEVER I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT OR TO HAVE A PASSENGER IN THE CAR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE HAD A BUBBLE ON THE SIDEWALL. THE TIRE WAS INFLATED. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHOOK UNCONTROLLABLY AND THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT SUDDENLY. THE TIRE PRESSURE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CAPITAL EUROCARS (3705 W TENNESSEE ST, TALLAHASSEE, FL 32304 AT (888) 701-6470), BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED.
