Engine has failed due to oil absorption.

The passenger door behind the driver seat suddenly would not open from either inside or outside the vehicle. The faulty lock makes it difficult to reach a child or pet in that seat quickly, as we have to go around the car to get to them through the other passenger door. Therefore, we don't consider the seat behind the driver safe, given the extra time needed to unlatch the seat belt and retrieve the passenger sitting there.

The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V137000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact stated while driving 72 MPH across three lanes of traffic, the vehicle lost motive power with the check engine and oil warning lights illuminated. The contact pulled over and turned off the vehicle; however, the vehicle was unable to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine had seized and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance due to the vehicle not having the Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS) Product Improvement Campaign software update. The contact had not yet received notification of the KSDS Product Improvement Campaign software update. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

I purchased a pre-owned 2017 Kia Sportage (~34,000 miles) from a Kia dealership in January 2020. I had my oil changed in late June 2022 at approximately 64,500 miles. In early October 2022 at approximately 67,800 miles (+3300) I noticed my oil light flickering when I would break form a high rate of speed. I brought it in to be looked at and my engine had less than one quart of oil remaining. Not only did the engine consume ~5 quarts of oil in 3.5 months, 3300 miles, but almost more importantly oil light had barely begun to flicker to the deficit in oil. The kia oil consumption issues are well known at this point. However I was unaware of the oil pressure sensor being set to only register once the vehicle was down 4-5 quarts of oil from the fill level. I was told by the Kia service manager that my "excellent" warranty will in fact cover a new engine, but I will have to drive the car until the engine seizes or sustains serious damage. When I first noticed the issue I called Kia to make an appointment to be seen and they were unable to fit me in for 2 weeks. Out of concern for my safety I brought my vehicle to an independent repair center who then confirmed that there was less than one quart of oil in then engine when it was drained (attached service record). My car is currently at the Kia service center.

I was driving up to Vermont for an event. I stopped at a Dunkin Donuts drive through and noticed smoke coming from the hood of my car. I quickly pulled forward into the nearest parking spot and the car started smoking in and burst into flames. I had 20-30 seconds to get out of the car. I could have been killed.

When we are driving the car accelerate on its own. I have taken to Kia multiple times and they see a problem. That’s a safety concern

All four power windows stopped going up or down in a six-week period. Safety is an issue because in the event of an accident when doors are damage, how can one exit the car if the windows do not go down. Dealer said it was the regulator. No warning lights, driver's side went broke, then a few weeks later, the rear left window stopped working, then the driver passenger side window and then the rear right window. Car had only 41,000 miles on it at the time. This issue is all over the internet regarding the 2017 Sportage and Optima vehicles. Children ride in this car also. Safety is definitely compromised by these inoperable windows.

I purchased my Kia Sportage used in March of 2021. -By July, 2022 I noticed it was staring to burn a lot of oil. I had it at the shop and there were no leaks, --By September 1, 2022 I was driving up the interstate; the car lost power, check engine light was on and the car started shaking. -I checked the oil and it was good. We also checked all codes that were showing and replaced the spark plugs, coil pack, and VVT Solenoid. The car still was not running right. --September 15 I decided to take it to Timbrook Kia to see if I could trade it in or have it repaired. They would offer me $5000 due to engine issue. I was then told there was a recall on the CVVT Cover (later found out it was actually a service action #SA305). They said the CVVT Gear under the Cover was damaged which works the VVT Solenoid which controls the valves in the engine and they thought one of the valves was bent. They put in a request to have the repairs to be covered by Kia, but they denied it twice and claim that the gear was not responsible for the motor issue. -I contacted Kia Consumer Care, which is almost impossible, to be told that my motor was on a Class Action Settlement list and I should go online and fill out the claim form. I tried to fill out the form and found it was for reimbursement, so I called the number on the settlement site. I was then informed that I could not file for the settlement because my engine had not completely blown up or caught on fire and I was misinformed previously. -Over

My car has been having an extreme oil consumption issue. I've been trying to get the issue fix with Kia for over six months. However, it is getting to the point were the engine runs out of oil and coolant in less than 500 miles. They told me the engine is damaged and it could fail and that the issue was caused by the excessive oil consumption. However, they will not cover it because damages by oil consumption are not covered by the manufacturer.

I was sitting in my driveway in my car and the windshield started cracking from the bottom. The crack has spread in both directions across my windshield. Visibility is not as good as the crack is in my line of vision.

My 2017 KIA SPORTAGE has 74,695 miles. I am the 2ND owner. The engine failed at highway speed, due to so called knock sensor. This the first safety issue, no assisted steering or brakes. I paid to have towed. The Kia dealer had no loaner cars. And was told it would take up to ten weeks to get an engine. After the KIA dealer replaced the engine. The power steering, alternator, and water pump belt came off. This caused the second safety issue, as there is no powersteering making it very difficult to control as well as third safety issue the computer to stopped the engine. Again I paid to have it towed. The Kia dealer found a broken motor mount. Which they did repair and cover. Now the first week out of the KIA dealer service department there is a high pitched squeal. The KIA dealer just wrote me a quote for $800 plus dollars, stating this vital moving part is not covered.

My engine locked up 8/29/22 , my mechanic informed me there was a recall associated with the engine .We had the car transferred to the local dealership . I was denied due to the dealer, Bill Byrd kia stating that the manufacturer , Kia , wouldn’t cover it due to not receiving the previous safety recall . Regardless of the type of recall all recalls that within the statute of limitation of eight years ago must be completed . Nevertheless the reason I didn't get notice of the recall , they said it was sent june 2019 . The reason why I didn't get the recall/product improvement notice was due to my house being damaged due to Hurricane Michael ,a category 5 hurricane that destroyed and made my house unlivable . How exactly I was supposed to get this notice being unhoused from a category 5 hurricane.Please contact bill byrd kia in Panama CIty , fl and approve and fix the repair ,which companies are required to under federal law , specifically the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act . I have taken the liberty to include photos of my house that are time stamped from the month June 2019 , the time frame Kia representatives state I should have received the notice

While driving 70 mph on the highway, the car suddenly lost speed, and I was not able to accelerate, and the engine light came on. Fortunately, I was near an exit, and at the reduced speed I was able to get to a parking lot. After contacting the dealership where I purchased the Kia, they suggested I have it towed to their service department. The initial diagnosis code indicated #1326 - which is excessive rod bearing wear.

My 2017 KIA Sportage was purchased in 2016 and does not have any recalls showing under my VIN number for this issue but I have all of the signs of a serious malfunction and the dealer won't respond. My car has less than 23k miles on it, I barely drive it because I work from home and all of the ABS warning lights are on including the ABS, Hill Descent, Tire Pressure, Traction/Stability Control, Emergency Brake Light. My dashboard light to Check TPMS also pops on the screen consistently and there is a weird smell coming from my dashboard. My husband is a certified mechanic for Largo Honda and he claims it is a safety issue in the vehicle that should be recalled. In addition to this issue, my windows will not go down and this will be the third time I have to take the car to the dealer to get fixed in the short period that I've had the car.

The vehicle will stall upon starting with push to start feature and you’d only hear clicking sound.

Vehicle is using on the average 2-3qts of oil within 1000 miles was told this could cause a fire. My vehicle had been checked twice was told I may need a new engine. Is this a common problem?

The passenger door behind the driver's seat will not open, which limits access to the rear passenger compartment should there be an emergency. No lights indicate this problem. We have tried all the troubleshooting instructions from the manufacturer's manual. Car shakes and putters when started as if the engine is shot, which at this point probably is. I have been adding oil every couple of weeks for over 6 months now with no oil leak detected. I went to the dealer in January to ask about white smoke coming from the tailpipe and Dealership tells me I need to blow the engine up before KIA will do anything about it. It's now close to blown up with check engine light on having it towed to dealership this week.

On 7/22/2020 I brought my Sportage to Fuccillo Associats of Florida Inc. 202 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte Fl. 33953. At that time they took it upon themselves to change a window regulator drum gear on the driver's side. This was covered under warranty, even though the warranty was expired already. Part number 82473-D3000FFF. Then on 11/16/2021 the second regulator drum gear failed in the rear passenger behind drivers seat. The window fell and could not be closed. This was repaired at my expense at $458.00 at 75,000 miles. Now as of July 1st the third window regulator drum gear failed on the passenger rear side. Now the window is inoperable and falls down. I alerted Kia to this issue and they attempted to change me a diagnostic fee and a $450 replacement fee in a part they know is defective and has been a problem for them all across the country. Look on your own site and you will see many many complaints of windows that just fell and the window regulator will not bring the window back up. This window drum gear is defective and should nave been part of a national recall on all 4 windows as they were probably manufactured out of material that would not stand up to normal wear and tear.

Engine seized twice randomly while driving. Turned car off and back on and it ran without issue. (May 21 2022 and June 30 2022). Had the recall addressed on july 9 and July 12 my check engine light came on. It was towed to Kia and they called the following day saying they’re replacing the engine under the extended warranty.

Window again have to have motor Replaced passenger side front dusted all four of them a year and a half ago

Dealership tells us we need to blow the engine up before KIA will do anything about it. It's not blown up but it is not driveable. Had it towed to the local dealership which diagnosed the problem as being " low compression on cylinder 2 resulting in engine failure. Do not know the exact cause of failure due to no tear down", which cost us $144.04 on a vehicle that has a lifetime extended warranty on the powertrain. Mind you, they already changed out the transmission June of 2020 and just after that the engine problems started. We paid $502.85 as our part of the bill. The estimated cost of this engine repair is $3160 dollars plus taxes which still might not fix the problem, and the cost of a new engine is 4 to 5 thousand dollars. My understanding is that we are not the only people having these problems and this is their best response. With all the new vehicles they continue to sell and produce with their good name intact, they should have to recall or replace these vehicles because they were lemons from the start and they suffer no ill affects for it. A list of all the stuff needed to "fix" this problem are as follows: head gasket, head bolt set, intake gasket, t-stat & gasket, water outlet gasket, 4 spark plugs, 6 valve stem seals, lof, 2 gallons of antifreeze 14 assorted head bolts, 4 bushings

My rear driver side door hatch malfunctioned and had a mechanical fail as confirmed by Auffenberg KIA, he stated “he see’s this all the time”, in O’Fallon, IL. I can not open the door from the inside or outside. Child lock is not active. Just a mechanical fail. This is not safe! What if there had been a car accident and my children needed to vacate the car! There were no warning lamps or other symptoms.

I was passing a car doing below 50 in a 55. As I sped to pass him the engine seemed to misfire, the car began to jerk and I suddenly lost power to the engine. I tried pressing on the gas pedal but engine was idle. I pulled to the side shut the engine off, waited a few minutes and tried to start the engine again. It did not want to turn over, sounded like a piston had blown. I had it towed to the family mechanic whom I take all my vehicles to. He ran a diagnostics and said piston #3 was getting no compression and I would need a new engine. I bought the vehicle brand new with 0 miles, the car now has 103,000 miles, just 3000 miles over warranty, which is why I took it to my mechanic and not the dealership. I bought the service contract from the dealership so it has been completely maintained as per contract at Future Kia in Clovis. My mechanic advised me to take it back to the dealer. I had it towed there and awaiting their diagnostics report.

After purchase the car only a year. The rod was thrown and punched a hole i. The engine block and began to smoke. I jumped out and the car wouldn’t start or nothing. Car was towed home and to several locations to look at and fix the car. When all along there was a safety recall. When I attempted to file a complaint the Kia class action suit was denied. Now this is on my credit due to having no other choice then to voluntarily repo the car.

While driving, the engine suddenly lost power and stalled. All of the warning lights on the dash illuminated. After coasting to the side of the road I pressed the start button and the engine started back up. Later that week the low oil light illuminated. After stopping the car I pulled the dipstick and it was not registering any oil. The car is at JT Kia in Columbia, SC to be diagnosed and we will be doing an engine oil consumption test.

Over the last year the car has been having the engine light come on. The car idols ruff, loses power and has left me stranded on the side road. I lost power in the fast lane on the freeway and had to maneuver out of the fast lane to side of freeway.Each time it has been taken to shop it has been a mis-fire in the #3 cylinder and the spark plug had to be replaced. Several calls not returned by Roseville Kia asking for information regarding this problem as well as trying to set up appointment for current recall over the last year. Once again car left me on side of road and was told by mechanic that it needs new engine. Told by Folsom Kia to have it towed to them since Roseville Kia would not return calls and that the issue with the engine would be covered by warranty being extended due to past recall. After 4 days at Folsom Kia I was told that I would need a new engine and starting price to tear it down is $5000, and it would most likely be more, approx$8000. Also told that the warranty does not apply now.

The contact pulled over and while taking a picture of his instrument panel, a grayish color smoke began to emit from the hood of the vehicle. As the contact began to search for the hood latch button inside the vehicle, flames had emitted from the hood of the vehicle. The contact immediately exited the vehicle and called 911. As the contact waited for authorities to arrive, the vehicle became engulfed in flames; the fire department eventually arrived and extinguished the fire. A police report was filed(#122023397) and no injuries were reported. The remaining parts of the vehicle were towed to an independent tow yard where it remained in their possession. The contact called the dealer where he purchased the vehicle to obtain his vehicle records. Upon investigation, the contact discovered that his vehicle had been placed under NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V137000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). The contact stated that he was never informed about the recall and never received a recall notice. The Kia dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed by the fire. The failure mileage was 93,703.

I HAVE A AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT THEY SAID IT WAS A SENSOR WITH THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT. IS THIS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE? VEHICLE IS EQUIPED WITH THE "THETA II" ENGINE WHICH IS UNDER A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT AGAINST ENGINE FIRES I HAD THE OIL CHANGED AT 70K MILES AT HOLLYWOOD KIA I CHECKED THE CAR AT 73K AND IT WAS 1.5 QUARTS LOW I ADDED 1.5 QUARTS LOW I ADDED ANOTHER HALF QUART AT 74K IT WAS A QUART LOW AT 75K WHEN I GOT THE NEXT OIL CHANGE ALSO, I HAD TO ADD A QUART AT 77K, 78K AND 79K JUST FILED A COMPLAINT WITH KIA CORPORATE CASE # 14755737 I AM GOING INTO GUNTHER KIA NEXT WEEK TO GET MY 80K OIL CHANGE I LEFT A VOICE MESSAGE WITH SERVICE MANAGER ANTHONY DECARLO AS WELL ENGINE OIL LIGHT NEVER COMES ON COULD THIS ALSO BE RELATED TO THE ENGINE FIRE ISSUES ?

While driving this car on the highway, the car shut down leading to severely decreased speed placing my life in danger. The engine was repaired in 2019. Again, on Monday 3/21/2022, while driving on the highway, this car decreased speed and put my life in danger again. This time KIA will not rectify the situation and denies any responsibility for the second engine issue. This vehicle now requires a total engine replacement at the cost of myself. No explanation of what led to the cause of this engine failure was provided. Multiple attempts requesting written explanation of diagnostic findings have not been met. No invoice has been provided at the time of this claim.

Unknow I took my kia 2/10/2022 in because the control knob was not working they did not have the part On 2/11/2022 I picked it up. On 2/17/2022 I dropped off my Kia so that the replacement part could be installed. On 2/18/2022 I picked up my vehicle and seen that my knob was fixed be discovered another problem had occurred that was no there before. My check engine light was on. I never left the service area. I informed [XXX] the he contacted (by radio) the mechanic that worked on my Kia. The took the vehicle back to the mechanic and when I got my vehicle back the check engine light was off and if the check engine light came back on to let him know. On Feb 19 the check engine light was back on so I called and left a message for [XXX] to call me back but he never did. Feb 21 I called [XXX] again and left a message for him to call me back. Feb 22.2022 My Husband [XXX] spoke to [XXX] , and he then informed him to call Kia Service Center because he [XXX] already had call them about my Kia explaining what the problem was. on Feb 24 I dropped off my Vehicle to Kia Service Center. On Feb 25 [XXX] from Kia Service Center called me to ask me where [XXX] go the part from and what was the part number On Feb 26 I went to Advantage Toyota and spoke to [XXX] for the information he informed me hi did not know the part number because he got the part from the warranty company On Feb 28 I informed [XXX] what [XXX] told me On March 2 [XXX] from Kia Service Center informed me that the Bocy Harnes

My Sportage SX started to slow in an off-ramp & then died completely stranding me in traffic. 2/13/22 is when this happened. Dealer is saying that engine pressure caused a spark plug to break & batter the cylinder. Resolve is a factory warranty engine block. Still waiting on the engine part, a month later.

My vehicle was stolen in the middle of the day while locked through the rear window. There is now $8,000 worth of damage to it including the windows, ignition, body. I have since learned that there is a flaw in the way that Kia designed the vehicle that makes is extremely easy to steal.

I started to hear a rattle sounds or ticking while driving. I let the car test over the weekend and then come Monday was going to drive it to my mechanic. I was left stranded and had to get the car towed to the mechanic. I'm being told the entire engine is bad and needs to be replaced. This makes no sense as I've kept up regular maintenance on the vehicle and am still paying on it.

Check engine light came on after I exit the ramp getting onto I-75. The vehicle started to stall. The vehicle started making a jerking move as though it was loosing power. I had to pull over in the side of the highway. I turned off the vehicle for about 5 minutes and turned it back on. I pull back onto the highway and noticed that when I press the gas it started repeating the same as I stated before and it wouldn’t accelerate pass 65 mph. When you slow down to about 20 mph and press the gas it stalls really bad as though it’s about to cut off. The acceleration hands jumps back and forth between 1 and 2 when pulling off.

Unreasonable amount of engine oil decreasing. When I drained engine oil after 5000 miles of driving, less than 1/2 of 5qt jug was filled. It could eventually result engine fire due to loss of lubrication on engine.

Vehicle basically activates Traction control System while going 70 to 85 on highway. Basically feels like you hit a decent sized bump. Then the car activates downhill brake control which limits the RPMs of the vehicle. The TCS and DBC lights remain on requiring you to pull over. Once the engine is restart the lights disappear for the time being until is occurs on the highway again. Happened 4 times in one day. Didn't happen when the car shop drove it... about to go to the dealership...who probably knows less.

The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that while driving at 30-35 MPH, another vehicle crashed into the rear end of her vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact was unsure whether there was a warning light illuminated. The contact was transported to the hospital with the assistance of a family member. The contact sustained a concussion, jaw and back injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot, where it was totaled. The dealer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the manufacturer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that the air bags do not always deploy in the event of a crash; therefore they could not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000.

Passenger airbag malfunction light came on and has stayed on. We are 30 days pass warranty and were given a quote of over $2600 to replace the airbag by the Kia dealership where we purchased this 2017 Kia Sportage. There are only 26,000 miles on it with no accidents. This is a safety issue and puts any passengers riding in that seat at a very high risk. A recall needs to be issued asap. My research on this problem revealed other recalls in the past on Kia airbags.

The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed with needing the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 131,101.

I filed a claim 14001328 for excessive oil consumption. I am told that one quart of oil per 1000 miles is normal consumption. The car holds 4.5 quarts of oil. This means that for a 7500 mile oil change interval the entire volume is replace almost twice. I do not accept this as normal. I purchased a 2017 Kia Sportage in August of 2016. I believe that Kia is running out the warranty. I have driven 158,000 miles in a VW Rabbit - no oil issues. 238,000 miles in a VW Jetta 195,000 miles in a VW Jetta TDI, 175,000 miles in a Chrysler Town and Country. Average oil consumption between changes was .25 quarts. You are now telling me this Kia Sportage has a normal oil consumption of one quart per 1000 miles. I find this then to be an inferior design. I should be entitled to a repair. I have oil coming out of my exhaust tailpipe. I am copying this to the NHTSA. All of the time I have my Sportage I have maintained proper oil change intervals and I have service records.

Transmission intermittently goes into neutral while driving causing engine rev, loss of ability to continue to drive/maintain speed. Very dangerous as you have to drift to the side of the road and put the transmission into Park and back to Drive to get it to engage again. Meanwhile you could easily be struck by another car trying due to sudden loss of momentum with no brake light warning or trying to maneuver to the side of the road with no engine power. Occurs every month or two. Dealer unable to duplicate multiple times. No warnings before it happens. There are at least 20 other reports of this on the NHTSA site. When will an investigation be opened? This has the potential to cause a serious crash.

On November 2020 I bought my 2017 Kia Sportage 4DR FWD LX. I been having issues with the driver's and passenger windows since 05/08/2021. The driver's window will not go down, Deland Kia Dealer inspection said the rubber window channel for the driver's windows needed to be lubricated and it got fix. Now 8 months later the same situation is happening again on the the same window, the window will not go down, and the motor works because you can hear it running. On 10/18/2021 I had to get my kia Sportage for service due the right (passenger) window not going up, it was stock and will not go up at all, again the motor was working because you can heart running. I got my Kia serviced at Deland Kia and they changed the window regulator gear panel. Is working (for now) but now my left rear window will not go up and is sliding down, like it loose and the drive's windows also having the same problem. I believe all this issues are a safety concern due to; first what if that window that is sliding will break and cut someone, plus is an easy way for someone to brake into my vehicle. I have performed the required oil changes since the car was purchased with the KIA dealer network. At 50,000 miles my oil light came on while making a turn and I brought it to the nearest dealer. They changed the oil and started an oil comsumption test. Since then, we have done 3 oil comsumption tested which "just passed" the criteria. I burn enough oil that I have a soot deposit in my exhaust pipe. My car is at 81,000 miles and has lost enough oil from the last oil change (4,000 miles ago - scheduled oil change for December 15) that there is no oil indication on the dipstick. The dealer has asked me to not add oil because it is 2 quarts low and ok to drive. They have said the warranty only covers if the consumption is greater than 1 quart per 1000 miles and this much oil loss is normal. THIS IS NOT NORMAL and indicates a defect in the piston rings, which would be a warranty repair that is being denied.
