Engine loses power and then stops now car won't start catalytic converter the gas cap the 02 censorAnd the throttle body
Check engine light came on and was showing issues with the camshaft and crankshaft sensors. I took it to the dealership where I purchased the car and they told me there was sludge built up due to lack of maintenance (regular oil changes). I have proof of regular oil changes being done. They told me there are no recalls (there is an open investigation on my make and model) and I would have to pay for a new engine which costs more than the car is worth.
I was involved in a car accident where a truck pulled out in front of me causing me to hit him in his side with the front passenger side of my car resulting in the car to roll two times. As a result of the airbags not deploying the windshield came into the car causing lacerations to the face of the passenger and as the car was rolling his right arm was out of the window causing him to have to have staples put in his arm and the skin on his hand was gone both driver and passenger had concussions and I feel that these injuries could have been avoided if the airbags (front and side ) were to deploy !
My engine failed and I thankfully was able to get my car to my mechanic but had I not, I could have stalled on the highway and caused a car accident.
2013 KIA SOUL. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO ILLUMINATED CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE VEHICLE IS SLUGGISH AND HAS BLUE SMOKE COMING FROM THE EXHAUST AND WON'T HOLD OIL FOR ANY PERIOD OF TIME.
The catalytic converter is damaged, soon the engin could fail, and there is a recall on the catalytic converter for this car type and model and year. it has all the symptoms that the converter is damaged, tried to liquid to fix it it did not work It is available for inspection no risk yet, inspected and problem was confirmed engine light is on
Driving on the highway when my car started making a popping sound, No lights came on on the dash We pulled over thinking it was the tire, we pulled over just in time the car cut off completly while we were still moving towards an exit. Car had plenty of oil plenty of water everything was up-to-date Besides of steering coupler. Tried cutting the engine back on and it started smoking and wouldn't cut back on or it would stall out. If we didn't hear that noise a few seconds sooner we would have gotten to a terrible accident on a 4 lane highway, which we were all the way on the far left side before the engine cut out. There was no problems prior to any of this it just happened randomly
The contact owns a 2013 Kia Soul. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and stated that it might be the catalytic converter. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing, and the mechanic stated that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The dealer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V120000 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling). There was no additional assistance provided. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 123,000.
Nothing has ever been wrong with my 2013 Kia Soul. Love this car! But less than 1 mile from home it started jumping and died. I have never once known about a recall. When it was looked at by mechanic, I was told the engine was blown due to possible head gasket, oil leaking out, etc. I have a rare terminal disease and can’t afford a new engine! My husband of 20 years left me, I am fixing to having cancer surgery and now to learn I have no car? I can’t take anymore! My local Kia dealships said recall was too old. I don’t have any idea what I’m going to do now! Maybe the surgery won’t go well….because right now, I could care less if I die because I have no life, no husband, no car…….
The contact owns a 2013 Kia Soul. The contact stated the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign: 19V120000 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling) for which the catalytic converter was replaced. After the repair the vehicle began to drive sluggishly with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact returned the vehicle to the dealer who replaced the catalytic converter, spark plugs, and exhaust pipe. The failure persisted. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to exceed 10 MPH while driving. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but had not yet approved the engine replacement. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
Driving down the freeway, and a fireball exploded out the bottom of the car, according to the driver behind us. The fire department were called out, deemed the car unsafe, and disconnected the fuel line. Car towed away.
The contact owns a 2013 Kia Soul. The contact stated that upon his wife parking the vehicle, a strong fuel odor was coming from both inside and outside the vehicle without warning. Upon inspection, his wife discovered fuel spewing underneath the vehicle. The contact was called to the scene and the vehicle was towed to the dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed with a defective high-pressure fuel line that needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.
The engine on my vehicle stopped working while I was driving on the freeway. I later got my vehicle towed to Future Kia of Clovis to handle the engine recall. When I have the vehicle serviced, they inform me that they could fix the recall, however they would not fix the damage that the recall caused to my engine. They also said that if would have gotten the recall fixed before my engine was damaged, I would have been able to purchase an extended warranty. However my engine would not have been damaged if the recall was repaired prior. They informed me that I would need an entire new engine that would cost around $5000. A former employee that I know personally told me that they are responsible for repairing recall damages as well as the recall and I should not be asked to pay an outrageous amount of money to have a reliable vehicle. Now I no longer have transportation due to Future Kia of Clovis failing to repair the recall and the damage.
My steering wheel is rattling when going around 50-60 mph. When driving on a gravel road the car bounces all over the place when going more than 5 mph. Steering functionality is seriously compromised. 60,000 miles, single owner, no wrecks or potholes hit.
My steering wheel just started shaking as I turning a corner. Now, if I go over 60 mph my car wants to jump all over the road. I’ve been told it’s the (MDPS) steering coupler by a few mechanics. Download the recall letter from Kia advising of this and the dealership says my VIN is not covered.
I was driving doing about 30 mph and hit a boulder and came to complete stop and my air bags did not deploy. And there is another feature vogue or on star that is spouse to call for help did not go off either.
The contact owns a 2013 Kia Soul. The contact stated that while her husband was driving 40 MPH, there was an abnormal sound before the vehicle stalled. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The driver was able to park safely in a driveway. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the engine to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 122,432.
2013 Kia Soul randomly turns off. It has 101K miles. No dash or warning lights come on before this happens. Then after it turns off an oil can icon, battery icon and a steering wheel icon with exclamation come on the dash and the air is still on, so its on battery power. I have to put it in park, turn off the ignition and AC and restart the car. The second issue that is happening. It is also randomly struggling to start up. I have bought a new battery thinking it was the issue. Still it randomly has startup cranking issues. The random engine power off has happened while slowing down to go over a speed bump, while idling at a stop lights and while i tried to engage the reverse to backup. It is also randomly struggling to start after these engine power off events. Never consistent. Sometimes it starts right up after the power off and others it takes several cranks before it starts. I have to put it in park, turn off the ignition and restart it. I drive 5 miles to work and luckily don't need to go over 35MPH to get there, but I shudder to think what could have happened if i was going faster and the engine cuts off. I have had it diagnosed at a non Kia reputable mechanic repair shop, where they tested the battery and is shows to be good(Should since it is new). Since it sounded like an electrical issues they tested and cleaned the power and ground cables. They attached the scan tool and checked all the modules on the vehicle and no diagnostics trouble codes were stored in any of
My 2013 Kia Soul is having the exact issues as the existing Kia/Hyundai catalytic converter/piston recall, but my VIN is not included in the recall. The car stalled while stopped at a traffic light. We brought it to a local pep boys for service. They alerted us to the existing Kia recall.
The vehicle lost power and the engine started smoking followed by a loud knock. I had the vehicle towed to a shop and they determined that it was a rod knock. Vehicle has 138000 miles
The contact owns a 2013 Kia Soul. The contact stated that the vehicle had previously been serviced under an unknown Campaign for the ECU; however, the failure occurred after the repair was performed. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 158,513.
Car wasn’t always turning over right away. When it would, sluggish acceleration meaning gas pedal to floor and slow acceleration. Could have caused major accident when crossing traffic or joining traffic. Car turned off when at busy intersection twice when idling. Could have caused to be rear ended. Auto shop cleaned terminal 6. Stated if happens again, go to Kia to have board replaced
Speed Control may have misfunctioned. I do not really know. When driving, the car randomly drops down to 5 mph and continues on its own at 5mph. The only way to stop is to turn off the engine. The car is not safe to drive This defect puts me at risk and all the cars following me at risk. This defect has not been independently verified but it is easy to reproduce. Check Engine was on due to problems with a multitude of engine sensors.
Steering coupler bad Looked online and the noise my car is making When I go back-and-forth with the steering wheel when the car is turned on but I’m not driving ! Makes a clicking noise it also make that noise when I’m driving
I got a recall letter in the mail too late! (October 2021) I received recall letter and called my local dealership 5 minutes after reading it & was told to put the letter in my glove box until my car completely broke down December 8th 2021. It was towed and was told it needed spark plugs & an oil chance which I knew wasn't the case. It sat at that dealership for two months with every service advisor giving me the run around and come to find out I'm not the first person. Had it towed to a different location where it sat for another two months where I had to fight to get a "goodwill" engine which we still paid almost $4,000 when it should of been for free! I got my car back March 31st 2022 and now my car had failed again! Am being told it's something different now & the STEALERSHIP wants another $1,500 from me! My child has had to miss dr appointments due to this and I've jad enough! Kia customer service is incompetent and Kia dealership service departments are as well! Due to the fact my engine should of been replaced for free like everyone else but someone decided to send me the recall letter LATE!
I have a Kia Soul ECO. Frequently the car will stop. For no apparent reason. It may have to do with the ECO feature where the engine turns off when you come to a complete stop. This is very dangerous as it happens randomly and disables the car. I have to turn the engine off and back on to continue.
I am the second owner of a 2013 Kia Soul that was purchased from Century 3 Kia, in Dec of 2015 with approximately 33,000 miles on it. It now has approximately 99,900 miles on it. During the summer of last year, I began to have problems with the car overheating, stalling, and hearing knocking in the engine. My car was burning oil pretty bad (kept having to change the oil) and it smelled like something was burning in my engine so I took it to the dealership where I purchased it. I was afraid it would catch on fire. They ran a diagnostic on it and said that it was the catalytic converter and quoted me a price of around $3,000 to fix it. I asked if there were any recalls for this issue and they said no. About a week later I took it to my mechanic, after doing a diagnostic check he confirmed that the catalytic converter was defective, and he said that my engine sounded pretty bad as well. He told me that he believed there was a recall on my car and advised me to contact Kia and ask about it. I called Kia and they told me there were no open recalls on my vehicle so I decided to get the least expensive issue taken care of first and had the catalytic converter replaced in July 2021. I became ill shortly after that so the car sat unused for several months. I became ill again with Covid in late November and was hospitalized for two weeks, the car sat unused for several more months. In March of 2022, I tried to drive it around the block but had to turn around because the car was very un
My 2013 Kia Soul Exclaim has turned-off three (3) times in the past 30 days. The first time was on 5/17/22, the car was idling in traffic at a stoplight when it turned-off completely. I had my mom in the front passenger seat, and we were quick to turn on the emergency lights. Thankfully, after 60-90 seconds, it restarted, and we were able to continue with the flow of traffic without issue until I tried accelerating, and it sounded like it was stuck between two gears at 40mph. When we were about to idle in traffic, the car felt like it was going to stall/turn off again. We parked in an apartment complex, and checked for leaks but didn’t see any. I scheduled an appointment with Firestone Complete Autocare for the next day, and after a few hours I was able to start the car and head home without issues. On 5/18/22, we took the car to Firestone where they checked the battery & other components but readings came back normal. The manager couldnt explain what happened and didn’t feel comfortable changing the battery since readings were normal. I didn’t have any further issues until 6/1/22 when the car was idling, and turned-off again. It still took 60-90 seconds to restart, but no further issues until this morning, 6/4/22. Today, the car was idling while at the Starbucks drive-thru line when it turned off. This time it took 90-120 seconds to start again, and when I tried to accelerate it began to sputter and felt like it was going to turn off again. I decided to go home, but it would
Steering coupler has failed within the steering system making the steering not as it normally has functioned.
My steering wheel just started shaking as I turning a corner .. Niw if I go over 60 mph my car wants to jump all over the road.. I’ve been told it’s the steering coupler but a few mechanics.. It dangerous to drive on the freeway.. Im afraid I will crash with my 8 month old son in the car..
The car broke down in concord nc in February 2022 they said it was the catalytic converter and it was on back order. Then the end of April they put the part on and the engine locked up. They said to come and get it there was nothing the could do.

The engine threw a rod while we were on the highway due to the recalled part. Our safety was at risk as it was me (23), my husband (27), our two kids ( 2 year old and 4 month old) and my husbands brother (23) in the vehicle when it malfunctioned. We were lucky enough to safely get off the highway without harming ourselves or anyone else. We had the vehicle towed to a shop and they informed us that it threw a rod in the engine but insurance didnt come out. There werent any messages on prior to failure but once it happened a few lights came on. The check engine, oil, and a light that had a steering wheel and an exclamation point by it.
I called the Nashua Kia dealership spoke to Chrissy and she had said they found two recalls on my 2013 Kia soul as I was explaining to her the problem she quickly told me that’s another problem she must’ve been in a bad mood or some thing hung up on me I’ve called two places now they gave me the run around very very rude she shouldn’t be working the front desk if she has an attitude and just hangs up on people I’m just trying to get help..

2013 Kia Soul base model when Kia reset engine because catallactic convertor (to show proper MPG) this started shortly after. Soul started having fuel levels drop to EMPTY after fueling. With fuel light & engine light coming on. Driving a short time fuel gauge then shows correct amount. This is occurring more often, talking with other Kia Soul owners they have seen it also. I am told sensors in fuel tank will need replaced almost $1000.00 but nothing can be done until lights stay on all time with NO GAURENTEE it will fix problem. Both of my Souls have this issue, I have 1 Soul still on the road, Soul 2 was traded in. Pictures from a video as event was happening.
My car without warning started smoking from the hood. I immediately parked the car, popped the hood, and flames starting rising from underneath before I had even exited the vehicle. Within 5 minutes of the smoke, my car was completely on fire.
In mid January 2022 I purchased from Baba's Autos in Houston 2013 Kia 5 speed 4cyl [XXX] vin. I immediately saw was using oil like 1gal per month. I took to Elite Auto in Feb2022 and they say engine recall on this as piston rings shot why oil blow-by. Was caused by a NHTSA Safety reacll #19V120000 with recall date 2019-02-21 so I took in on 9Mar22 as some outstanding recall items like software update and Catalytic check. They said on 9Mar22 "No Issues" with Catalytic converter. less than 3 days later on 12Mar22 I broke down driving less than 60 miles to northwest side of Houston with code P0240 Catalytic inefficiency trying to get to my kids who were broke down from a flat tire near 290 and 610. I towed to Clear lake area w/ AAA and on Monday 14th had towed over to Gay Family Kia. I was expecting to get a Catalytic converter replaced due to the NHTSA Safety recall as the damage caused to my 2013 Engine but after 2 weeks of waiting on 24MAR22 I was told by Roy that I would have to pay for the catalytic converter nearly $2k which should be covered under the Safety recall. I also should be provided a new engine as existing is sucking oil due to piston ring damage. At the moment, my Kia is in the Gay Family Service center and it seems any recall on my vehicle has been zeroed out of the national database even though any Catalytic converter upgrades have not been completed. My trust in Kia products has been damaged. My trust in Gay Family Kia service center is also damaged as I was

Car has - low - 41500 miles There is a play in the steering wheel and a " tump- tump" sound can be heard when at a stop and low speeds- while turning the steering wheel.
Took my car in for recall and they said I need an engine but will not replace it free of charge. Also the catalaytic converter was clogged and someone tried to take it off to get me home when I broke down on side of road. They won't replace it even though it was malfunctioning and I had to do what I could to get off side of road. They replaced the computer thing but said the engine would be at my cost. Can you please help. This is at Lancaster Kia in Pennsylvania.

Purchased used 2013 Kia Soul July 2018. June 2019, vehicle was taken to Kia Dealership for SC176-19V120 ECU Logic Upgrade. Neither catalytic converter nor engine were replaced during recall repair. In 2020, vehicle began consuming oil and poor mileage. No smoke or leak detected. Had vehicle inspected by local mechanic, who could not find pooled oil or a leak. Suggested replacing PCV valve and had that done, but symptoms persisted. April 2021 Engine Misfire Code P0300 and P0303 for cylinder 3 and multiple cylinder misfires detected. Local mechanic also checked for burning oil or leaks. Engine made knocking sounds on acceleration. Mechanic performed fuel system cleaning, and replaced spark plugs and coils. Engine knocking stopped, but loss of oil and poor mileage remained. Oct 2021 Campaign PI2002A Knock Sensor software update to ECU was performed by local Kia dealership with no other repairs performed. Feb 2022, visible oil leaking from beneath car and check engine light. Local mechanic diagnosed CodE P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1), and heard engine knocking. Recommended replace catalytic converter and reprogram ECU for short term fix, followed by engine replacement due to wear and damage from catalytic converter. Suggested I contact dealership who performed recall repairs to see about warranty or replacement of engine due to recall repairs failing to correct faulty engine issues.

While driving down the highway, or turning around a curve the engine stops. The car can be restarted after it is put un park. Not always possible on a busy road.
I purchased the 2013 Kia Soul used on 5/22/2021 and shortly afterward discovered water leaking into the front passenger side compartment and evidence that the leak was old. I brought the car to Fred Anderson Kia of Raleigh (kiaofraleigh.com) on 6/7/21, 6/25/21, and 7/20/21, and they incorrectly diagnosed the leak as an air conditioner hose. And then, after they replaced the hose, they thought it might be a windshield leak. After the unneeded air conditioner repair, they referred me out for windshield/water leak testing. McConnell Auto Glass (mcconnellautoglass.com) determined that the windshield was not leaking. The leak was coming in from substandard factory welding in the car frame. The car has never had frame repair on that side. My attempts to patch the bad weld joints with JD Weld caused the leak to continue to move across multiple failing car frame welds. The leak has damaged the interior of the car, grown mold, and exposed the electrical components to failure, rust, and fire. I contacted Kia Corporation (800 333 4542) on 1/12/22, 1/20/22, and 1/21/22. They have told me that Fred Anderson Kia will not return their outreach calls, and they would refer my case # 14586235 to the district manager for a callback -- which has not happened. They tell me the DM’s name and contact information are secret, so I can not call them. Q1: The frame welds. I have covered some of the leaking areas with JD Weld, but the welds are unaltered and could be inspected by removing the JD Weld. I

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
