2015 Keystone Alpine

Defect. Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling various 2003-2018 Crossroads, Dutchmen, and Keystone recreational trailers equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V755-5127.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. Risk. In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.

Remedy. Keystone will notify owners and instruct them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2018. Defect. Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Keystone Avalanche recreational vehicles, model 355RK, manufactured from May 6, 2013, through April 24, 2014; model year 2015-2016 Keystone Alpine, models 3100RL, 3101RL, 3555RL, 3556RL, 3590RS, 3591RS, 3600RS, 3601RS, and 3730RS, manufactured from October 8, 2014, through July 28, 2015; and model year 2016 Keystone Laredo, models 325RL, 350FB, and 355RL, manufactured from July 13, 2015, through July 21, 2015. The affected vehicles may be equipped with a rear window that has a sticker labeling it as an emergency exit sticker. However, this window may be partially blocked by the rear ladder and was not intended to be a secondary emergency exit.

Risk. In the event of an emergency, occupants could try to escape through the rear window, but would not be able to. This delay in their escape may increase the risk of injury.

Remedy. Keystone has notified owners, and dealers will remove the emergency exit sticker, free of charge. The recall began on August 17, 2015. Owners may contact Keystone customer service at 1-866-425-4369. Keystone's number for this recall is 15-233.

Defect. Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling certain model year 2015 Keystone Sprinter, Cougar, Montana, Montana High Country, Outback, Bullet, Avalanche, Alpine, Fuzion, Impact, Laredo, Raptor, Carbon, and Passport, and Dutchmen Kodiak, Aerolite, Denali, and Voltage vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the screws that attach the expanding room to the sliding mechanism cable may fail allowing the room to extend unintentionally while the vehicle is in motion.

Risk. If the room extends while vehicle is in motion, there is an increased risk of a crash.

Remedy. Keystone has notified owners, and dealers will replace the screws that secure the drive chain, free of charge. The recall began on June 18, 2015. Owners may contact Keystone customer service at 1-866-425-4369. Keystone's number for this recall is 15-225.

TWO TIRE FAILURES WITHIN 100 MILES, ONE ON EACH SIDE OF TRAVEL TRAILER. TIRES WERE ABOUT A YEAR OLD AND HAD WELL UNDER 5,000 MILES. TIRES WERE INFLATED TO MAX RECOMMENDED PSI AND TIRES/HUBS WERE INSPECTED A FEW HOURS BEFORE THE INCIDENTS OCCURRED. TRAILER WEIGHT WAS WELL UNDER MAX WEIGHT ALLOWED AND WELL WITHIN THE RATINGS OF THE TIRES. EACH FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING 60MPH ON HIGHWAY. TREAD SUDDENLY SEPARATED. TREAD SLAPPED UNDERSIDE AND SIDE OF TRAILER, RIPPING OUT PLYWOOD, INSULATION, SKIRTING, RUBBER SEALS, WIRING, ETC. SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS WORTH OF DAMAGE.

I WAS TAKING MY FIFTH WHEEL FROM MY HOUSE AND PUTTING IT IN TO STORAGE, ABOUT 4 MILES AWAY. I NOTICED WHEN ARRIVING, MY FIFTH WHEEL CAMPER WAS LEANING TO THE RIGHT. I CHECKED UNDER THE CAMPER AND NOTICED THE RIGHT REAR LEAF SPRING WAS NOT IN THE REAR HANGER BRACKET AND WAS LODGED UP INSIDE THE FRAME. I ALSO NOTICED RUBBING TO THE RIGHT REAR TIRE DUE TO THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM / LEAF SPRING. I USED THE HYDRAULIC LEVELING SYSTEM AND A PRY BAR AND HAMMER TO GET THE LEAF SPRING BACK IN TO THE REAR HANGER BRACKET. I THEN INSTALLED A HIGH TENSION BOLT I PURCHASED FROM FASTENAL TO GET IT TO A RV DEALERSHIP ABOUT 15 MILES AWAY. THE RV DEALER SERVICE DEPT. INSTALLED A NEW LIPPERT BOLT. THE ROADS FROM MY HOUSE TO THE STORAGE UNIT ARE OF VERY GOOD CONDITION AND A FEW TURNS FROM STREET TO STREET. I WAS DRIVING NO MORE THAN 45 MPH. I AM WONDERING WHAT DAMAGE MIGHT HAVE OCCURRED IF I WERE ON THE INTERSTATE TRAVELING AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED AND THIS LIPPERT BOLT OR ANOTHER OF THE ELEVEN HAPPENS TO SHEAR.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 KEYSTONE ALPINE TRAILER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE ROOF BEGAN TO DETACH. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT DUE TO THE FACT THAT THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH ADHESIVE ON THE VEHICLE TO KEEP THE ROOF ATTACHED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. UPDATED 11/07/16*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, THE ROOF STARTED FLAPPING . IT WAS DETERMINED IT WAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. KEYSTONE COVERED THE COSTS. UPDATED 11/30/16.*JB
