Windshield defroster does not defrost the edges of the windshield.

I am now on my 4th new windshield. I've owned my Jeep for less than 2 years, the last two windshields had to be replaced within 3 months of each other. I understand that Jeeps have a reputation for windows easily cracking, but the manner in which they crack and spread is terrifying. It will start as a small chip and then quickly escalate to a spider web crack that rapidly expands in length. A lot of times this happens on a highway (chip of rock will hit the windshield or edge of it) and as I'm driving to get where I need to go, the crack just crawls across - seems very dangerous. Typically I am not in a situation where I can stop - just need to head home and then call for a replacement.

When on the highway during cold weather the steering will lock up and be very difficult to turn. You have to Fight the wheel all the way to one side for it to unlock, or shut the vehicle off then turn it back on

Engine shut off completely in August of 2021 and then again today (12/15/22). In both cases, there was no warning. Thankfully, in both cases, we were at low speeds and able to coast to the shoulder and restart the vehicle. After restart, the vehicle operated normally with no warning lights. This seems to be the exact issue as described in NHTSA Recall 22V-865.

While driving down the highway, my Jeep started to violently jump. I had to completely come to a stop in the middle of the highway before my jeep would stop jumping. I was going about 65 in heavy traffic which was very scary.

When travelling at highway speeds if the car hits a pothole or other bump the road, the vehicle starts shaking violently. The steering wheel starts shaking, and the vehicle becomes extremely hard to control at highway speeds. I feel that is very unsafe because there is no way to get out of this shaking unless you slow down completely and pull over to the side of the road. I brought the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the steering stabilizer needs to be replaced.

While driving on the highway in heavy traffic, the whole highway came to a dead stop which meant I had to slam on my brakes and when I did the rear bench seat flipped forward and threw one of my dogs onto the floor. After getting home I checked the seat and realized that there is no latch to hold the seat in place.

In late October I started experiencing a total vehicle body "shudder" when driving on the freeway and hitting uneven paving. This condition started getting worse and worse. The car was unmanagable when travelling at a speed over 58 and hitting uneven paving - the shudder took over the entire car and steering. There was no recourse but to try to safely pull over and stop the car. Upon research I found this is a now COMMON OCCURENCE called the DEATH WOBBLE. Generally it happens in modified Jeeps however my car is les than two years old with less than 16,000 miles on it. When I could finally get time at the dealership I was met with, oh yes we had five new jeeps in here just last week with this condition we are seeing it all the time. The part that is supposed to provide remedy is back ordered by at least three weeks - is this as there as so many incidents?. The dealership told me to take my car home until they had a part. The car is NOT SAFE to drive at any accelerated speed with this condition. There was no prior warning of this condition and nor would I expect it in a new vehicle but upon research I am learning how many people are experiencing this and questioning why there has not yet been a recall. The part offered as remedy by the dealership - the steering damper - has been identified as a "band aid" - and that it is likely the condition will re-occur. This is not acceptable or safe for any new Jeep owner (or any Jeep owner) I urge, no I BEG you, to investigate this "death

My 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited has 12,500 miles on it and in October 2022 I noticed that when I drove over 50 miles per hour on the freeway or hit a pot hole the car violently shakes to a point where I feel I am going to crash. I have to step on the brake slow the vehicle down to stop the shaking then I can accelerate. I made an appt to get the vehicle serviced on 11/16/22 that is when I was told the Steering Damper was faulty the dealership had to order the part with no estimated time of delivery. On 12/1/22 the steering damper was replaced. The dealership told me this can happen again. This vehicle is new I have never taken it off-roading, I have only driven it on the roads and freeways. Why would Jeep Chrysler continue to sell Jeeps knowing this issue is happening. Driving on the freeway and braking to stop the vehicle from shaking is extremely dangerous. After extensive research its called the Death Wobble. This is gross negligence from Chrysler to knowingly sell a vehicle that has a reputation of having a death wobble and putting people's lives in danger. I want to know what my options are.

Experienced what is called "jeep death wobble" at high speeds on the highway. Lost control of steering and vehicle felt like it was coming apart. Would happen anytime I reached 60 mph and hit a bump on the road. Extremely dangerous and frightening. Jeep attempted to fix the problem with steering dampers, but now feels completely unstable when I drive. Also have an open safety recall which they cannot repair until next year when parts are available. I feel unsafe driving this vehicle and want Jeep to purchase it back without a huge loss on my part. I don't understand how a serious safety recall can be issued with no resources to address or repair the problem.

Since purchase of the vehicle the steering has had a "wobble" after hitting a bump (bridge transition on interstate is most common). The wobble occurs at higher speeds 60-75 mph. The wobble has gotten worse and I would now classify it as the "death wobble" that is commonly reported on the internet forums. It literally shakes the wheel (and front end) so violently that you have to slow down to 40-45 mph to make it stop. It is unsafe to have to brake this hard on a high speed road to stop the vibration of the vehicle. The vibration is violent and observable from outside the vehicle as a trailing vehicle informed me. Also, a young or inexperienced driver may not make the proper decision to address the violent wobble. I have had the vehicle inspected by a local Jeep dealer and they plan to order a new steering stabilizer (amazingly backordered with no committed delivery date). My concern is whether this is a repair or a band-aid. Will this continue to happen? This vehicle had the issue from purchase and it got extremely violent within 22,000 miles. Will I need to take it to the shop for a new stabilizer every 20,000 miles? Would like some facts on what the root cause is and how the stabilizer will permanently fix the issue. Also, why is this not a recall?

This Jeep is unsafe. The jeep has a problem when you are driving 70 miles per hour on the highway. If you go over a bridge with road bumps or hit a pothole, the Jeep goes into an uncontrollable wobble. I have to slow down to about 40 miles per hour to get the Jeep to stabilize. Suddenly needing to slow down because the jeep feels like it will shake itself apart is incredibly dangerous. We tried to have it fixed at a dealer in Vermont and they said it was fixed but it isn't. I took it to the dealer in Albany NY today where we bought the Jeep and it happened again on the way. They tell me that it might take up to 2 months to get a part - a steering dampener - to fix the problem. This car is unsafe. How can there not be a recall on this issue?

This is the best explanation I can give you. "The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is looking into complaints about the dreaded “death wobble” in the steering system that some drivers have reported. In short, the steering wheel begins to shake quite badly after hitting a bump at higher speeds. The shaking goes away once the Jeep slows down, but it can be a rather frightening situation for drivers – especially on a busy highway." My Jeep had the "Death Wobble" issue fixed almost a year ago. Right now it is back at the dealership for the 2nd time for the exact same issue. Their service department said it's rare that it occurs a second time but I do not believe them. When picking up my loaner vehicle at Enterprise Rent a Car the representative asked what issue I was having with my Jeep and she replied we are hearing that a lot of people are having that same issue right now. It happened 3 times on a recent trip to Tucson and 2 times on the way back. This time they are replacing the steering damper (again) front shocks and several other parts. It is still under factory warranty.

I was driving my 21 4xe on e-save mode with a quarter tank of gas left and about quarter of my battery life left when it suddenly powered down while driving. I had my ten year old son with me when the Jeep suddenly shut down in the middle of the street without warning. Seconds before shutting down the “D” light on the shifter started blinking, a red battery indicator flashed on the screen and then it was dead. I moved to the far tight lane as fast as I could. Although I was able to get over, it still died in the middle of moving traffic. I almost had a wreck! Called roadside assistance and waited 45min for a battery jump. They came but the jump did not work. All the lights came on but my jeep would not start. Had to wait another hour and a half for a special tow because it wouldn’t go into neutral. Finally, the police showed up because we were impeding traffic and I was then able to get a tow after 2 1/2 hrs in the middle of traffic with my son At Night! Eventually we had it towed back home because it was so late. But now I have to have it towed to the dealership I purchased from which is 45min away. So frustrating! Everything was fine, no warnings until seconds before powering down.

Driving at highway speeds in Idaho on a road-trip from California. Vehicle suddenly shuts down with warning lights saying to put in park. Very dangerous as there is little to no shoulder on this stretch of highway. Cars had to swerve around the vehicle as it rapidly lost speed. Check engine light is now on. No warning lights prior to sudden shut down.

I have a 2021 Jeep 4xe that suddenly stopped traveling 50-60 mph. I lost power, power steering, breaks and acceleration all at once on a busy multi lane road. I had more than half a tank or gas and 83% battery and had an oil change maybe 1000 miles ago. My car went from high speed to stopped in a matter of 3 seconds giving me no warning lights until it happened. I managed to use the downhill I was on and all the arm power I had to get to a side street. After 15 mins it started working again, but I had tt towed to a dealership to check out. It shows on here I have the odometer recall outstanding, but I actually have that one completed. I lost my odometer around 13000 miles driven and went approx 3 months without one as the dealerships had no idea how to fix or order the part. While stopped at a light on a busy highway I heard a loud sound similar to the automatic emergency braking system engaging. When the light changed the vehicle would not move. I tried turning it off and then back on again with no luck. The dash displayed the message "service charging system" and then ultimately illuminated an icon for the 12V battery and the charging system. I wound up having the vehicle towed to a local dealer where it currently remains waiting to be repaired. My biggest fear here is that there was no way to move the vehicle, some type of limp mode would be a much better solution so at least I could have moved out of traffic.

The incident occurred when I attempted to shift the transfer case into 4-Low. The sequence of events is as follows: 1. I stopped the vehicle and shifted into Park. 2. With my foot on the brake, I shifted into neutral and attempted to move the transfer case lever from 4-High, to 4-Low. 3. As I started to move the transfer case lever, a warning appeared in the instrument cluster stating, "Vehicle speed too high to shift". 4. Auto-Park engaged 5. The engine, uncommanded, with my foot still on the brake, began to increase in revs slowly. 6. Check engine light illuminated, the engine continues to increase in revs. 7. When the engine reached 6-7k RPM, I hit the engine start/stop button and held it down until the engine turned off. The engine was still climbing in revs until this point. 8. I restarted the engine and could shift into 4-Low successfully. "Off-road cruise control disabled" warning light illuminated and remained on until I shifted back into 4-High. Check engine light remains on after multiple starts.

I was driving on the expressway when the engine suddenly slowed the car, I lost all ability to use the gas pedal. The deal found metal shavings in the engine leading to the engine being replaced. Prior to this I had several check engine lights that when the dealer looked at the vehicle, they simply reset them and told me all was ok. I lost all power on the expressway- all passengers in the car felt it and were terrified. In a separate incident also on the expressway I experienced a violent wobble and rattle of the entire car including the steering- I have a video of this as my daughter happened to catch it. It felt very dangerous and I had to slow to stop it. It happens when I hit a bump. This is a new vehicle with less than 10 K miles.

Problem is the steering on my 2021 Jeep Wrangler Sport 4X4. Received the vehicle in August 2021 and immediately noticed a problem with its steering. After several visits to the dealership I was told they knew what was wrong that it was something about steering calibration. but they had no way to correct the problem because Jeep had not provided a mechanism for a fix. The best I can describe the steering problem is that there seems to be excessive steering wheel play, and wandering/drifting of the vehicle while driving requiring constant left to right and then right to left steering to keep the vehicle going straight in its traffic lane. The vehicle only has 3,000 miles driven. I am hesitant to drive on any expressway because of the unstable steering.

I pulled my Jeep into my driveway. I put the car in park with my foot on the brake. When I went to turn the car off, I heard a loud sound coming from the car. the car jerked forward, my foot still on the brake, and then it took off into the side of my house and garage. I tried to stop the car with the brakes and it wouldn't stop. After it hit the house, I looked down and the car was still in park. I had to restart the car as it shut off after hitting the house, I put the car in reverse and backed it up. When I put it back in drive the car wouldn't move. Only reverse worked. After an hour the car started working in drive. I had the car towed to the dealership. They told me that there were no error codes and that the care is fine. I now have zero confidence in this car. This is my fourth Jeep Wrangler and I never experienced anything like this. Has anyone experienced or heard of a similar issue?

This vehicle was purchased new. From day one there has been concern with the steering on the Wrangler. There is excessive play in the steering of about one inch. As a result the vehicle wanders making it difficult to control. This behavior is most notable at speeds between 40 to 70 mph. Complaint has been made to dealership two times. First visit they indicated no trouble found. Second visit they said the behavior is normal. Bottom line; driving this vehicle is a safety risk.

4xe wrangler - driving for about 30 min in the pm when the red turtle symbol with the battery came on - 4xe had 20% battery and 3/4 tank of gas and could not switch from hybrid to eSave. 4xe went from full speed (45) immediately down 5mph to 0 mph a minute leaving us at the entrance of a local street (no shoulders). Dashboard said to place it in P and then select a gear - we placed it in P but was then unable to change gear (4xe was still in run mode). At this point everything locked up and after a Christmas tree dashboard light display the car went dark with only the hazards running. Had to use flashlights to make sure cars would not run into the back of the jeep Couple of minutes later our hazards lights also cut out. Towed to Dealership where they replaced the 12v as a resolution. After picking up the jeep i could not get it into electric mode, called the dealership who requested it back to pull codes. On the way back same exact issue happened again on a busy road. It's still at the dealership. Check out 4xe forum there are many reporting the same issue. I was driving home from a trip to the store. I stopped at a red light and all of the sudden I got a message that traction control failed, service charging system, and power train failure occurred. I had no power to move the car and the brakes barely worked. It told me to put it in park and restart the Jeep. I was able to roll downhill to the median out of traffic and put it in park and restart it. It seemed to work normally until I went another mile or so and it happened again. This time I was in motion and had a very difficult time stopping in the middle of traffic to put the Jeep in park and restart. This is a VERY serious problem and I’m very lucky it didn’t happen on the interstate. I am a member of two Jeep 4xe groups on Facebook and this is a reoccurring issue that is extremely dangerous.

I have just over 27k miles on my jeep. It is a family vehicle and stays on road only. I noticed this last weekend that it is starting to suffer from the classic Jeep "death wobble" when driving on the highway under certain circumstances. Classic "higher speed" "possibly turn on a highway" and maybe the bumps of a bad road or a bridge transition and the front end shimmy's nearly uncontrollably. Was on the way to the dealership to get an oil change already. Asked them about it, he said it'd be nearly a month to get it diagnosed. Did some research, apparently this is an ongoing issue that is getting reported to Chrysler and the NHTSA already with possible "fixes" being replacement dampeners or a new steering box. I don't know what Chrysler will do at this time as the diagnosis date is in the future but... a replacement dampener seems to only bandaid the issue. The real issue is some other fault that wears the dampener down early. Replacing it or upgrading it only hides the fault. I believe they are making progress with the idea that the aluminum steering box stretches and needs to be steel but can't say 100%. What I do know is it's scary as hell when it happens and given that the jeep is already prone to a short wheelbase and higher center of gravity, any high speed steering uncontrollability should be considered critical and not "slowly looked at".

The clutch plate overheated, fragmented and destroyed my transmission on 6/22/2022 as I was driving on the Pennsylvania Turnpike at around mile marker 61, at a speed of 65 miles/hour. When I got on the turnpike in Monroeville Pa, I could smell a burning smell, but I figured that I was passing through an area where someone was burning something outdoors. Around mile marker 60-61 I started having difficulty keeping the RPM's up and my speed up to the speed limit. shortly after I heard a banging/clunking noise and I got off the highway. My Jeep was towed to Monroeville Jeep. Monroeville Jeep called the next day 6/23/2022 and said that the clutch plate overheated, fragmented and destroyed the transmission and it is not covered under warranty since the transmission did not fail. I had previously taken my Jeep in to Diehl Automotive on 7/19/2021 for recall #Y07/NHTSA 21V-028 to have the recall done. What happened to my Jeep on 6/22/2022 is exactly what the recall said would happen if I did not have the recall work done. In the weeks prior to 6/22/2022 I did notice the RPM's acting erratically but not being a mechanic I had no clue what was going on. other than that, there was no warning signs. There is now at least 30 other Jeep owners who had the recall done, some had both recalls done and the recalls failed to prevent the clutch plate from overheating, fragmenting and destroying the transmission

While driving the jeep it gets a error code that says Service Electric throttle body. I’ve owned the car for about 20 months. This is the fourth time this issue has happened. Seems to happen every 5 months or so. The first time they replaced the throttle body. Second time they replaced it again and had it back for one day and the issue popped up again. They then said they would replace it but it had to be something else since it was a brand new throttle body. They ended up replacing the PCM and I was without the Jeep for an entire month. This time I went in and they said it wasn’t the throttle body. So they cleared the codes and I went to pick it up, when I turned it on it tells me to service electric throttle body. I couldn’t even make it out of the dealership parking lot. When this issue happens. No matter what speed you are at it literally decreases your speed to 15MPH. Luckily I have never been on the highway when said issue has happened. It is a serious safety concern. This last time I had my two children in the car with me, my 2 year old daughter and my 1 year old son. I do not feel safe, or that this car is reliable. I have been reading forums about this said issue and I am not the only one having them. That is where I got the information to come here. I hope it is something you can look into. It isn’t a good feeling to buy a brand new car and not feel like it is reliable or safe especially with your small children in the car. Thank you for your time.

The piece that holds the front seats in place (that slides them back and forth) is cheap plastic that breaks very easily. I have a brand new Jeep I cannot drive because the seat slides back and forth without locking into place, the plastic piece that locks it is very thin plastic

PHEV issue. My vehicle will be using electric only mode and the internal combustion engine will turn on minutes into the trip and the battery usage is ceased. The instrument cluster will show “Electric Mode Temporarily Unavailable.” The vehicle will continue using gas engine only until the vehicle is turned off. When restarted, electric only mode is available and accessible. This message is not related to Fuel and Oil Refresh Mode. I am not using the heating or cooling system and driving local roads with a short commute. The ambient temperature is in the 70s/80s and the vehicle garaged and charged nightly. This vehicle behavior is not favorable and certainly defeats the intend of purchasing a PHEV. The vehicle spent the last three weeks at the dealership for another issue with the PHEV and waited three months for the replaced two parts to arrive. The issue was causing faults and the check engine light to come on with only 87 miles on the odometer. There is just 2477 miles on the vehicle, and the dealership service department is unable to troubleshoot the issue further as no fault codes are generating. This issue may be software based, but needs to be addressed to have a properly functioning PHEV.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
