The LCD screen of the Audio/Navigation system is delaminating. This allowing the adhesive in the screen to leach to the bottom of the screen towards control points for several vehicle systems. This is a known issue with many FCA product lines. FCA (Mopar/Stellartis) refuse to assist with repair for out-of-warranty vehicles. I think this is a safety problem as unexpected changes/activations of various vehicle systems may lead to driver distraction and/or error. There are no warning lights or alarms associated with the problem. I am the second owner of the vehicle and I noticed the issue a few days after purchase.

Uconnect system constantly displays to change time. Not able to change time and the system constantly beeps while driving. Also it is obstructing the back up camera. Research online through Jeep forums state this is a common issues with the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Is this a recall or is a service bulletin available for this issue?

The center 8.4” UConnect touch screen /control panel’s interface has delaminated with effectively makes the federally mandated back up camera and other vehicle systems inoperable. The delamination of the touch screen causes numerous issues including screen blanking out , back up camera failure , error messages for clock that consumes the entire screen display as well as random issues with Apple Car Play and the OEM Navigation system. There is a highly distracting audible sound due to this failure /defect. This is a clear safety issue and is well documented as a common defect with 2018 Grand Cherokees in automotive forums and social media.

Uconnect screen is bubbling and delaminating. As a result it is causing the touch screen to act crazy. Back up camera will freeze and stay on screen even when not in reverse, radio will change on its own, clock setting will continue to flicker on screen, air and heat will randomly turn on and up. Entire touch screen will freeze and act up.

I purchased my 2018 Jeep Cherokee right off the dealership lot in Lynnfield MA in August of 2018. I then have had on going issues. Starting with strange squilling sound coming from back of vehicle, this was never found reason by technician but they replaced engine air filter jume 2020, then my heater wasn’t working in dec.2020, replaced motor blower with wheel, then may2021 my vehicle just shut down as I was driving on the highway to work at night no prior warnings beforehand, lucky no one was hurt towed in and no start and transmission was stuck no fuel pressure, dtc related and shorted fuel pump. Replaced module fuel pump level unit. Now just October 29,2021 my vehicle is not starting I jumped the battery and lights come on but vehicle won’t start. Dealership I purchased vehicle from won’t contact me back so I towed the vehicle to them and still no response. I’m very disappointed in Jeep I don’t feel safe or that my vehicle is not dependable and for all the money I keep putting into it I should have a dependable car.

On October 23, 2021 my daughter and I got into our vehicle a 2018 jeep grand cherokee and as I started the vehicle the passenger side headrest deployed unexpectedly striking my daughter in the back of the head causing severe pain which ultimately turn to a very bad headache , this is the second occurrence of this issue the first being back in mid 2020 on the drivers side headrest which I also sustained a very intense blow to the back unexpectedly. I also filed a report on that incident with the NHTSA. This is not acceptable and I am almost positive that their are many people out there that have experienced the same issue but have not reported it! Now being there is no recall of this issue its not right for me or anyone to have to pay out of pocket for a clearly defective issue! This repair should be the Jeep Corporation and not the consumer perhaps I should look into some Law firm for help on this matter!

Radio, is malfunctioning. Screen blinking all the time. Can not get to the control module, therefore can not get to controls, for heat, defrost ( which is safety issue) can't set back up camera. Very distracting while driving. Some of the features come on themself and you can not get them turned off. It is constantly taking your eyes off the road to focus on the screen to try to correct the issues.

Problem #1: ABS sensor malfunction on all 4 wheels causing vehicle to stall on the highway. I could not accelerate and the whole vehicle was jerking. Huge safety issue. Problem #2: The screen/radio/navigation system malfunctioned while driving. The volume was going up and down, it was calling contacts in my phone, turning on air conditioning and heater, turning on seat warmer and cooler, changing radio/ songs, disconnecting and reconnecting to different bluetooths. Also a huge safety issue, I had to pull over until it stopped. Massive distraction.

My 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee has encountered an issue that several thousand others have encountered. The UConnect screen delaminates and phantom-pushes buttons like heat, AC or changes apps like Maps while driving. This is obviously a huge safety concern especially since I'm regularly driving children. I called my local dealership and they told me to contact the FCA and open a case. They let me know that in many cases, the FCA actually covered the cost of repair since they have it well documented that this is a safety concern. I called and they told me that my warranty ended 30 days ago and that this unless it becomes a recall will fall on me even though they have acknowledged that this is a safety concern. I unfortunately do not have the $2000 in these times to cover the cost of repair for this manufacturers' defect and hope to be reimbursed at a later date. So now I am stuck with a defective safety compromising manufacturers' defect and no fix. God forbid something happens to me or my family because of this.

Issue is with Uconnect Screen that has a widely known issue of glue getting behind the screen and causing phantom inputs. Multiple issues start occurring with the screen that are very distracting while driving. Now my wife has to play with the screen to get the AC to work correctly and that's while driving. This has to be unacceptable because now you have a distracted driver have to deal with the screen but the fact EVERYONE knows this is a defect of the device. From the dealership where I bought the vehicle to the Uconnect support person who personally told me that this was ridiculous that the manufacturer has not been made to correct this even when they (Chrysler) knows this. I understand that you do not deal with shady business practices but now this has become such an issue that I believe it leads to distracted driving. That is a safety issue and that needs to be looked into by NHTSA. Unfortunately we had been dealing with this issue for a while not know what it really was and when we took our vehicle into the deal we were outside of our extended bumper to bumper warranty. The repair we have been told will cost between 1500-2000 dollars. I find this to be unacceptable especially for such a young vehicle. Thank you for your time. Back up camera failed to engage when I was in reverse and backing out of a parking spot. I came close to hitting a vehicle which was moving behind me. Once my vehicle was home, parked and turned off, the monitor screen remained backlit and became quite warm to the touch. No messages/warnings appeared in advance to indicate backup camera failure. I did contact our local Jeep dealer and the assistant service manager took a report upon our insistence. The vehicle was 250 miles outside of the 36,000 warranty window. They would not even look at vehicle until appt. 8 days out. We researched online and found other owners of 2018 Jeeps had the same issue and they solved it themselves by disconnecting the battery cables allowing the electric system to 'reboot'. We tried and it was successful. We were concerned not only about the safety of not having a back up camera engaged and working, but also about the continued warming of the dash area in a parked, turned off car.

The 8.4" infotainment screen has delaminated and is causing phantom button presses. Multiple functions are accessed via the infotainment screen (media, climate, comfort features, backup camera, etc) and the delimitation is creating a serious safety concern because the screen is recognizing phantom touches that are changing the radio, turning it up, turning on my backup camera, changing the climate, making phone calls, and so on. All of this occurs while driving.

The digitizer screen on the control panel delaminated, which causes multiple, repeated, continuous ghost presses. This is a problem because it makes all the features such as the rear camera and navigation unusable as well ad being extremely distracting. Also, the adhesive that bonded the layers is leaking, which might disrupt the electrical circuity. This could poses a serious safety threat if it affects the vehicle controls such as braking, steering, and acceleration.

The unconnect system has failed by delamination. My safety and those around me has been at risk due to the major distraction that the screen causes. When driving, the car will call people 20+ times, play music, switch stations, switch screens, change the navigation, and change the ac temperature. All of this occurs with me pressing nothing. This is extremely distracting when driving, especially on the highway as it constantly occurs. The dealership and company is aware as it is a major issue in chrysler/jeep cars. Not only are there many forums with the same issue, but customer service representatives have confirmed that this is a frequent issue. It occurred after the 3 year mark and the first symptom was part of the screen being less clear/bright. It has escalated to changing the car settings that are listed above. There is currently no recall for this safety issue. Customer service told me that not even corporate will fix this.

The rear right seat belt became unusable in August 2021. I bought the car in October 2017 and it only has 20,000 miles. The seat belt was fully retracted and stuck, which caused a major safety issue for my passengers, including my children. The dealership confirmed it the seat belt retractor was broken and needed to be replaced. The repair costed me $558, which was not covered or guaranteed by Jeep. I would have thought that a critical safety part like a seat belt retractor that breaks at 20,000 miles, the company will cover it and recall other vehicles to check same and ensure that retractor systems are properly working. No crash or incident was involved, just normal use of the car.

The factory installed Uconnect UAQ 8.4 inch screen (PART NO: 68306656AL) is de-laminating. This started as just a "bubble" on the screen that wouldn't go away in the upper section around 45,000 miles or April 2021. It has since grown to span about an inch of the entire top of the screen. During this expansion of the "bubble" or de-lamination ghost touches started happening causing the screen and operation to jump around. This severity and portion of the screen experiencing these ghost touches has continued to grow. A potential safety issue exists as I was using the GPS at one point and a ghost touch caused it to jump to another screen just as I was approaching an intersection looking at which way to turn when the screen jumped to another option and I diverted my attention from the road to the screen to get it back to the GPS and find out which direction I needed to go. I have not taken my specific vehicle into a dealer/independent service center for verification because many of the same issues I've researched online and compared who HAVE had this independently verified mirror the exact same symptoms/issues.

The component I am reporting is the Uconnect touch screen/control panel within the head unit of the car. The screen is delaminating, which is resulting in distorted images during use (quite noticeable when using the backup camera). Also, while the vehicle is in motion, random buttons are being pressed on the interface as a result of this delamination, which is extremely distracting while driving the vehicle. Researching this issue online shows many owners of 2018 Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge vehicles fitted with this same Uconnect screen to be experiencing the same issue, which leads me to believe this is a manufacturer defect.

The screen to the infotainment system is delaminating. Due to the delamination, at times the screen registers phantom presses on the screen. The radio/audio input will switch back-and-forth rapidly, as well as the display on the screen at times. This has been very distracting and dangerous. The car is one month out of warranty, and the manufacturer and dealership will not remedy this safety issue. We have experienced 2 separate episodes of this vehicle suddenly becoming disabled with complete engine shutdown while driving at highway speeds. Both episodes occurred abruptly, engine idling extremely rough, then shutting down within seconds, leaving the car completely inoperable. Both episodes were very dangerous as the car could barely coast to the shoulder of the highway for safety of the passengers. The first episode occurred when the car was a few months old, gas gauge showing over 1/4 tank of diesel gas. Car was towed to the Jeep dealership where they claimed that the car simply ran out of diesel (despite the gas gauge indication) no repair "was required", car filled with several gallons of diesel and OBD codes reset by the dealer, car then ran normally . The second episode occurred one week ago. Again driving at highway speed, 5 lane highway, over 1/4 of diesel remaining on the gauge, sudden violent engine running, sudden full loss of function of the vehicle, nearly in an accident simply trying to " limp " to an emergency stop on the road shoulder. Car required towing to our residence. with the prior experience at the Jeep dealer, despite gauge reading of greater 1/4 tank, the car was filled with 5 gallons of diesel, car started normally. All OBD fault codes insufficient fuel to the engine, fuel rail, fuel pressure, etc. The car has run normally since. I contacted my Jeep dealership and they stated they have no knowledge of any similar issues with this Jeep Diesel en

Component Malfunctioned: 8.4" Center display, it is available to inspect and there are many other vehicles with the same issue. The digitizer on the display is coming unglued (due to heat), it is causing the touchscreen to do things on its own like change the time, call people, switch radio stations. Safety at Risk: While it may not seem like a safety issue outright, when those phantom touches happen is very distracting to the driver. In addition, after reading about other cases where the delamination is even worse, the glue that is essentially melting has been seen to start dripping on other components and wiring inside the center stack, like air conditioning and parking sensor control and traction control button. Reproduced: This is a very well-known issue within the Jeep/FCA family of vehicles. I called their customer service and they were 100% aware, they were ready with a replacement option right away but at my cost. This is a manufacture defect and should be covered by FCA. I live in Cleveland, OH, the hottest it has gotten here is 90 degrees, this screen should have been tested well beyond that temp. If the glue is melting in this weather, it needs to be replaced as a recall. Inspected: No, but I will give it to anyone to inspect. Mine is not as bad as others I have seen but I would like to get is replaced before it becomes an even bigger safety issue. Touchscreen interface (8.4" Uconnect) is delaminating and causing ghost touches which randomly select and activate systems on the screen, including switching screens to different controlled systems. While some of these may not be considered safety-related (environmental controls), I would respectfully suggest that others are, including: random and unexpected changing, turning on or off radio various audio at various sound levels (imagine turning on your car and somebody jokingly set the radio to an extremely loud volume - funny, but not necessarily unsafe. Now imagine that happens randomly while you are driving down the road!); interfaced mobile phone randomly placing calls (I have had this happen; solved by disconnecting phone, but was extremely distracting the first time it happened); random activation of the rear-view camera while driving; navigation system randomly activates (and tries to direct you somewhere you are not going); AND inability to disable the screen in order to alleviate the distractions (ghost touches automatically turn it back on). This is apparently an issue with tons of Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge and Ram vehicles...especially 2018 and later. To this point, FCA is refusing to address if out of warranty (which many, including mine, now are). Let me be clear, I am not trying to avoid an out-of-warranty repair on my dime, but I truly believe that the random activation of many of these systems - and the inability to disable most of those - is so distracting that

I bought a new 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee a few years ago, but have had the same error message pop up a few times now that has me concerned. I keep receiving "Service Shifter" message. Check engine light stays on for a while (2-3 days) then eventually goes off. Took it in for service, which they kept for a little bit and allegedly fixed. A few months later, same message popped up again, but this time the engine wouldn't down shift, tachometer kept going higher and higher - had to pull of highway and restart vehicle for it to run correctly. Took it to dealership again, they kept the vehicle for a week, dealership had to get approval to fix under warranty (had to work on transmission). On July 5th, I was driving on highway, service shifter error popped up again, but was still driveable, or so I thought...About a minute later, a message popped up telling me to drive directly to dealership for service, if I turned the vehicle off, it wouldn't start again. I drove a little further to the next exit, turned blinker on and all the lights on the dash were flashing, blinker worked, but much slower. I drove to gas station and it started back up, but check engine light remained on for a couple of days. My brother traded his Jeep in for electrical issues, looks like I'll be doing the same, unfortunately. 38K miles and keeps acting up.
