Vehicle power train unit was recalled 01/23/2025 for failing parts, however, no parts are available for a fix, Jeep/FCA are not aware when the parts will be available and/or when the recall will be completed. The failure of the PTU can cause dangerous, if not fatal results, including a lower of drive power, a vehicle crash, a loss of park function, and even death. The PTU is recalled, however, I have also already replaced it once and paid out of pocket.
2019 Jeep Cherokee complaints
Owner reports filed with NHTSA about this vehicle, newest first and reproduced as filed. They are unverified accounts: one proves nothing, and a pattern across many is the thing worth reading. Back to the full 2019 record →
Drive shaft busted at approximately 54, 900 miles. Was explained to me by my mechanic how bad this was, and that this could have been gravely injurious to me and others, and that I got lucky. Approximately one month later the air compressor went. The 4WD service light comes on, which suggests a drivetrain problem, as well, though could be an electrical issue. Both repairs were costly. This is unacceptable for a car under or around 55,000 miles and is well-maintained.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the 4-WD warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the power transfer unit had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The contact was also referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 155,165.
Grinding/binding when backing up or turning the vehicle. Vehicle was taken to dealership 12/28/2023 where I was charged 306.00 to diagnose the issue. Estimate to repair was 4291.66 on a vehicle that had 23,823 miles on it. Went to 3 independent mechanics for estimates and none would touch the vehicle because Jeep would not release the codes for software or provide information for a fix. 01C/NHTSA 25V-011 recall notice then received 2/2025 with NO REMEDY AVAILABLE. Registered for recall and signed up for notifications when parts are available and still waiting as of July 3, 2025. Manufacturer has failed to provide timely repairs of my vehicle which is now slow to accelerate on the highway, noise is louder, binding is worse on turning and backup. Vehicle is useless to drive any distance away from home. Independent mechanics are vocal about how Jeep should be ashamed of their tactics. Need my car fixed or replaced at this point. Total failure of manufacturer. Will submit receipts for reimbursement of diagnostics costs from Jeep dealership also.
My 2019 Jeep Cherokee 2.4L engine is consuming an excess amount of oil. I took it to the dealership and the only solution I was given was to replace my entire engine. I looked up recalls for this, there are none. Never received anything from JEEP like other people online have regarding excess oil consumption. I have to now get oil changes every 1,500 miles… The oil light doesn’t come on, instead, every time I go to make a turn. The car turns off while driving or stalls. Very dangerous
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH and while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle started shaking abnormally. The contact pulled over to the side of the road turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle started operating as intended. The contact stated that a dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the transfer case, rear axle, and exhaust pipe needed to be replaced. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V01100 (POWER TRAIN); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall; however, the VIN was added later, there was a possibility of being reimbursed. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 122,000.
The rear differential developed a crack along the outer edge, resulting in a peeling effect along the edge of the unit resulting in fluid loss. We were informed by our dealer (who discovered the issue) that the part needs to be replaced to prevent full failure of the part and a catastrophic event on the road. I called Jeep to seek financial assistance and was told to get an official diagnosis from the dealer, ($180) which I paid for, in order to submit my claim to Jeep and request for reimbursement of approximately $4,200 for replacement part, labor and required wheel alignment. I submitted to Jeep the official dealer diagnosis and receipts for repair. There were no warning lamps or symptoms other than the fluid loss and visual cracks on the differential housing. We were informed by the dealer that they have experienced and repaired one other vehicle with the exact problem and that this is a common and known problem on specific model year Jeep Cherokees. I paid out of pocket for the repair, as we could not afford the 3-6 month time wait for the dealer to resolve financial assistance for the replacement. Note - Jeep Care asked me to submit documents directly to them regarding my claim and assigned CASE number-93372499. Which I did. They then responded and advised I contact my dealer for financial assistance. Which I did. The dear contacted Stellantis and then responded that since I prepaid for the repair, no financial assistance will be given. I then reached out the Wisconsin
Vehicle started jerking while accelerating. Acceleration was also extremely slow, especially at lower speeds. Vehicle was also shaking at one point when reaching about 50 mph, but had just driven at over 60mph without shaking. Oil level is good. All temperatures are normal.
PTU needs to be replaced after less than 55k miles. Several recalls issued, but VIN is not included, but meets every "check box" for recall.
My 2019 Jeep Cherokee, which is currently experiencing a Power Transfer Unit failure. My Service 4WD light came on, and the vehicle is exhibiting the same symptoms as those covered under several PTU-related recalls, including Recall W47 and Recall 01C.
A grinding noise came from under the vehicle and it began handling differently. A local garage looked and found the rear differential/axles/propeller shaft loose and making internal noises. They referred me to the dealer. A month to get in. I tried a reman, but parts are backordered I am told because these are failing everywhere. The vehicle is unsafe and now the dealer says September at the earliest, $1,000 plus labor, parts cost unknown.
The cars start/stop feature hardly works, and it has just stalled right after the start/stop was engaged and then gave me a message saying “start/stop required” and then was in drive but was rolling backwards and wouldn’t start and then when it finally did start it was a sputtering mess. The start/stop feature consistently struggles to work.
The SVC 4WD light came on. Took it to dealer and was told I need to pay $4,000 out of pocket to get the ptu replaced. I’ve read articles stating that my car should have a recall on it but when I search my vin… nothing comes up. Could result in complete loss of control, or car can’t disengage from parking brake when seated.
I WAS VISITING MY NEICE IN MISSOURI. 2019 JEEEP CHEROKEE, 33,000 MILES. MY POWER TRAN UNIT HAS BROKE AND I HAD TO LEAVE MY VEHICLE IN MISSOURI TO DRIVE BACK MY NEICES VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD NOT TO DRIVE IT AS IT WAS TOTALLY GONE. I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO CAUSE THIS. THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE MY LAS CAR AND NOW ITS A DISASTER. WHY HAVE SO MANY OTHER 2017-2019 JEEP CHEROKEES NOT BEEN RECALLED VS ALL THE RECALLS ON OTHERS NOTHING DIFFERENT IN MINE.
There is a recall that has been out at least 5 months and there still is no fix. I feel unsafe driving my car with my baby and family in it
My Service 4wd light is on again and the electronic controller module is cracked under the hood. There is no 4wd, sensors are not working, the automatic high beams as well as manual high beams will not work, I have random dings going off, and the car does not shift properly. Gas mileage is way down. This is a continuous issue with this vehicle. I have replaced the ptu, and I need help!!!! This has cost me nearly $10,000 out of pocket.
The Power transfer unit ( PTU) is affected, yes it is available for inspection. The vehicle is unsafe to drive. Yes, it has been confirmed by Midas and a local Jeep dealer. It has been inspected by the auto repair shops. Yes, an alert came up SVC 4W and confirmed that it is the PTU issue, same day examined.

Jeep sent out a safety recall (01c) concerning two speed power transfer unit. In early 2025. I had failure of my PTU in early 2024 for which I paid for the repair DOS 5/24/2024. I continue to have issues with the PTU. Per the recall notice Jeep advised that I would be reimbursed the cost of prior repairs within 60 days of submitting my request. I submitted on 4/11, on follow-up I was told they did not get my request and resubmitted on 5/8. I spoke with Ian on 5/8 and was told to expect reimbursement in 60 days. On 5/10 I received an email that Jeep would not honor reimbursement until a repair remedy was available. 6/18 was informed that a repair remedy still is not available. Request assistance on getting reimbursement and re-repair of PTU.

SVC 4WD light came on, 4WD system overheated. Transmission was damaged, had to pay to rebuild entire transmission, now transfer case is needing a replacement. Got codes C1472-92 and C1477-4B when we ran the scanner. There is a recall out right now for the PTU and transfer case issue but no solution. I need assistance in replacing Transfer Case. Car died out on me in the middle of rush hour traffic on the highway. 2 cars almost hit me but they missed me. Had to wait until the car turned on again and drove straight to the shop.
Component: Power Transfer Unit (PTU). Jeep has issued a recall for the same year and model as my 2019 Cherokee, but my VIN is not included in the recall. However, the power transfer unit is failing as verified by the Jeep dealership. This appears to be a manufacturing defect identical to those listed under the recall. The warning that lead me to take it to the shop said 4WD not available service required. I would like my vehicle to be added to the recall list for this issue. NHTSA campaign number: 25V011. Jeep’s own number for this recall is 01C.
PTU failure in my Jeep Cherokee. Other models have been recalled but this one has not.
The service 4WD light came on [XXX]. We discovered that there is a current PTU recall along with numerous other problems that are potential for recall. We spoke to the dealer (not able to help us) who referred us to the manufacturer. We spoke with Paul of US Customer care who told us to file this complaint. They do not recommend driving the car for safety reasons. There have been vehicles repaired but the repairs do no last. We have not been offered repair. We are on social security and can't afford a rental for reimbursement. We called all Dealers in out area. Their loaners are all taken and they all have waiting lists for loaners. We are left with no transportation. We can't afford another car - this one is paid for. Also, we were not notified of the recall within 60 days. We have been having problems with the electrical panel and AC electrical for about 2 years as well. We would like a replacement vehicle of like, kind & quality as soon as possible. There are many available. With kind regards, [XXX] & [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The automatic start/stop feature says there's a problem. One time it started doing weird electrical things and completely shut off while driving. Had to turn it of and wait a minute then restart it. Things seem to be going haywire
While driving the vehicle, I heard a loud clunk, and it continued as I drove. Luckily, I was driving in town. I had to slow down and took the vehicle straight home and then took it to the dealership when I could get an appointment. The dealership examined the vehicle and determined the noise was coming from the transfer case and internal gear failure. I was told it was not drivable until this was fixed. There were no warning identifiers before this happened.
There is still no remedy for current recall on my jeep. This is my only vehicle and I have a young child. How am I supposed to feel safe driving to even just the grocery store for basic needs when there is an ongoing safety recall. I'm just at a loss of what to do.

The 4WD light came in November 2024. When taken to the dealer I was told it was probably the power transfer unit as they have been replacing a lot of them. And upon inspection it was the PTU. This problem was verified as being common and a recall issued shortly after my vehicle got a new PTU. My VIN is not under the recall and I am being told there is nothing they can do. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that my vehicle has the same defect the others have and I think they need to look broader at the vehicles included in the recall. In May 2025 (just 6 months later), the rear differential went out with no warning or lights at all. There was a noise and by the time we got it to repair shop they said they don’t know how we even got it there as the rear differential exploded. This could have been a very dangerous situation. The rear differential goes hand in hand with the power transfer unit so it is very probable this happened due to the faulty PTU. Please help get JEEP to acknowledge the problem is a wider scope then initially thought so when they have a fix my vehicle can be included.
While driving onto the highway vehical 4wd service light came on with loss of power like the transmission or ptu was in natural motor rpms came up without power to the wheels trying to merge ptu engaged with a loud clunk and jerk then started to make a clicking noise 10 miles after. Replaced cv axles and replacing drive shaft. Finding out the ptu needs to be replaced due to a faulty clip that caused worn splines loss of traction causing further unsafe driving issues. Having the vehical brought to the dealership.
The power transfer unit has failed with only 48k miles. This appears to be a manufacturing defect identical to those listed under the recall.
I took my Jeep in 2 months ago for an oil change and routine systems check. I was informed that the rear-end differential had excessive play and was failing. There were no prior warning signs or alarms to alert me. After only 75,000 miles, the rear-end differential is failing. I have taken in the Jeep to a Jeep dealer and they performed an inspection and confirmed the failure. the dealer stated specifically that it was due manufacturing error. Both the dealer and two different repair services confirmed that it cannot be repaired and must be replaced. The vehicle is unsafe to drive in it's current condition. However, a replacement part cannot be obtained as thousands of people are waiting on replacements.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that after restarting the vehicle, the steering wheel became difficult to turn in either direction. Airbags didn't deploy when I was hit by another driver whose speed was greater than 35mph n the other driver didn't break or slow down when hitting me on the driver n left passenger doors. I requested for my insurance company to preserve the vehicle for inspection but I don't know how long they can hold it because it was determined a TOTAL LOSS. When I was hit NONE of my airbags deployed n because of that, left side of my head n shoulder were slammed into driver's door. The vehicle was inspected by my insurance n a certified mechanic n due to impact n location of damage done to vehicle, both parties determined vehicle was TOTAL LOSS n couldn't b repaired. There were no warnings lamps or ANY messages n other symptoms of the problem prior to deployment failure.
While idling, especially at red lights or in park, my 2019 Jeep Cherokee vibrates noticeably. This happens almost daily, and the vibrations are felt throughout the cabin, particularly through the steering wheel and seat, and has caused my phone to fall off its mount while driving. The issue has been consistent and now appears to interfere with the Auto Start-Stop feature. On several occasions, the vehicle has struggled to restart after the engine auto-shuts off at a traffic light, raising concerns about reliability and safety. I brought the vehicle to a Jeep dealer, and I was told that because this is not a recall issue, there is nothing they can do. No warning lights or diagnostic codes were found. However, the problem persists and affects the vehicle’s comfort and function. It also poses a potential safety risk due to distraction and instability at idle. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance. The component is available for inspection upon request.
The infotainment screen in my 2019 Jeep Cherokee intermittently shuts off while driving. This occurs unexpectedly and has happened multiple times, sometimes while using navigation or the backup camera. On several occasions, the screen has turned completely blue and remained unresponsive for several minutes. The screen controls audio, climate, and safety features, and its failure creates distractions and limits access to key vehicle functions. This issue occurs randomly and has not been resolved. I brought the vehicle to a dealership, and was told that unless there is a recall, there is little they can do beyond basic troubleshooting. I have not received any warning messages or error codes related to this issue. The problem appears to stem from either a software malfunction or a hardware issue with the Uconnect system. The component is available for inspection upon request. This screen failure impacts visibility and access to controls, creating a potential safety risk.
While driving down the interstate, my wife’s car just died in the middle of the highway, no life or lights of any kind. Luckily we got it started again and made it home. Second time it happened, the car shut off on the highway and would not restart. Had to have it towed home, tried taking it to our local Dodge dealership and they said since there’s no”active codes” they couldn’t do anything and sent us on our way. The car has a mind of its own and shuts off and or starts up whenever it wants. The care had a few codes when sent to dealership, service throttle control, lost function in fuel pedal, check engine light was on, start/stop needs serviced, and now the key fobs aren’t working, the car won’t start, acts like the battery is dead when we just had a brand new battery put in. This has happened 3 times to my family and it’s very uneasy when we’re stuck on the side of the highway as a hazard with no hazard lights working, and the car is dead in its tracks with no power whatsoever so ever. I’ve read many forums where more people are having this issue. I’m over the fact that we can’t get an answer to what’s going on, when we are paying for such a high quality vehicle and are having but none stop problems with it. I’ve also had to put a rear differential in the car at 80,000 miles. I’m just hoping to get some answers before something catastrophic happens to my family or someone else on the highway.
The system that failed is the power train. More specifically, the PTU or (Power Transfer Unit) has failed twice. The first time the failure happened, the car had 70,000 miles on the odometer. The Issue presented itself as a “SVC 4WD” warning light on the instrument cluster, followed by a “4-wheel drive system unavailable” annunciation on the instrument cluster. There was a clear loss of power as a result, Sluggish response of the accelerator and shifting of gears in drive, loss of fuel economy. The issue was confirmed by the dealer. The dealer indicated there was a failure of the PTU, where its motor was locking up and PTU systems failure. The car was still under power train warranty at the time and was repaired - PTU was replaced — After having the problem repaired and faulty PTU system replaced in March 2022 under power train warranty at 70,000 miles, the problem has come back. The problem is identical to the first time. The car currently has approximately 140,000 miles on the odometer, 70,000 miles since the PTU was replaced. Once again, I have a “SVC 4WD” light and “4-wheel drive unavailable” annunciation on the instrument cluster. I brought the car to the dealer and was informed the service code was for the same issue as before, faulty PTU and PTU motor locking up. Loss of power, sluggishness shifting and in acceleration. The diagnosis is to replace the PTU This is two full PTU failures, each at 70,000 miles usage on the odometer at the time of failure. Loss of drive pow

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
