2017 Jayco Travel Trailer Jay Feather

Defect. Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Jayco Designer, 2017-2021 Eagle HT, Eagle, Jay Feather, Jay Flight SLX, Jay Flight, North Point, Octane Superlite, Pinnacle, White Hawk, 2017-2020 Eagle HT, 2018-2021 Jay Flight Bungalow, 2017-2019 Octane, and 2019-2020 Eagle HTX travel trailers and fifth wheels equipped with a Winntec model 6020 two-stage propane regulator. The regulator may fail, causing an increase in propane pressure.

Risk. Increased propane pressure can enlarge the flames in gas appliances, increasing the risk of a fire.

Remedy. Dealers will replace the regulator and test the propane system for leaks, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 3, 2021. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267.

Defect. Jayco Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2017 Jay Flight Bungalow, Hummingbird, White Hawk, Jay Flight SLX, Jay Feather 7, Jay Feather and Jay Flight fifth wheel recreational trailers. The LED ceiling lights may produce excessive heat.

Risk. The excessive heat from the LED ceiling lights may increase the risk of a fire.

Remedy. Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected LED ceiling lights with a different light, free of charge. The recall began on May 24, 2017. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267. Jayco's number for the recall is 9901349.

Defect. Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Jay Feather, Jay Flight, Jay Flight SLX, Eagle, White Hawk, and Octane travel trailers manufactured January 5, 2016, to July 18, 2016, equipped with a Sway Command anti-sway system. When connected to certain tow vehicles that have an integrated brake controller, and after the anti-sway system has applied the trailer brakes in response to a sway event, the trailer brakes may no longer function to slow or stop the trailer.

Risk. A loss of trailer brakes may lengthen the distance needed to stop the vehicle and cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will remove the Sway Command system from the affected travel trailers, free of charge. The recall began on August 3, 2016. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267. Jayco's number for this recall is 9901308.

The rear bunk end door on this 2017 Jayco Jay Feather X17Z hybrid travel trailer does not fully latch or lock while traveling at highway speeds due to a known widespread manufacturing defect. Jayco factory installed canvas retainer strips with no pre-drilled holes and no washers causing the plastic retainer strip to crack and fail. This caused the entire rear bunk end frame to shift out of alignment making it impossible for the door latch to fully engage while towing at highway speeds. This is a documented defect affecting hundreds of identical units. Jayco was already replacing these under warranty proving they knew about the defect. Jayco subsequently redesigned the attachment system eliminating screws through plastic entirely — part numbers 0858182 and 0858183 — proving the original design was inadequate and dangerous. The bunk door not fully latching at highway speed poses a direct safety hazard to other drivers on the road.

LED LIGHTING OVERHEATS AND THEN FLICKERS

WE WERE DRIVING HOME PULLING ARE 2017 JAYCO JAY FLIGHT SLX 264BHW AT 65 MPH ON I 10 WEST ON ARE WAY HOME. A TRUCKER HAD PASSED US AND I HAD NOTICED SOME DEBRIS FLYING OUT FROM THE BACK OF MY TRAILER HITTING CARS BEHIND ME I SLOWED DOWN AND EXITED THE FREEWAY. I STARTED TO LOOK AROUND THE TRAILER AND FOUND THAT THE UNDER SIDE OF THE TRAILER HAD COME LOOSE AND WHEN IT HIT THE GROUND IT EXPLODED AND THE PIECES OF THE DEBRIS I HAD SEEN WERE THE PLASTIC BELLY COMING OFF AND THE INSULATION THIS COULD BE A DANGER TO CAR FOLLOWING TO CLOSE.

AN APPOINTMENT WAS MADE FOR MAY 4, 2018 WITH THE DEALERSHIP TO REPACK LIGHTING PER CAMPAIGN 17V-290. THE DEALER IS ALBANY RV, 48 RENSSELAER AVE., LATHAM, NY 12110. ON MAY 2, AFTER TRYING TO CONFIRM THE APPOINTMENT, I WAS ADVISED THAT I DIDN'T HAVE AN APPOINTMENT BECAUSE IT WAS MADE BY A TERMINATED EMPLOYEE. THIS RESERVATION WAS MADE ABOUT 5 MONTHS AGO. THE BOTTOM LINE, MY TIME IS LIMITED, I HAVE TO SCHEDULE TIME OFF FAR IN ADVANCE. BELIEVING THAT ALBANY RV WAS A REPUTABLE COMPANY I LEARNED IT HAS A BLATANT DISREGARD FOR CUSTOMER SAFETY OR THEIR CUSTOMERS WELL BEING. I DID CALL THE JAYCO HEADQUARTERS WHO TRIED TO INTERVENE BUT HAD NO SUCCESS. APPARENTLY THEY'VE RECEIVED MANY COMPLAINTS. MY CONTACT AT ALBANY WAS [XXX], HER SUPERVISOR WAS [XXX] WHO NEVER RESPONDED TO DIRECT REQUESTS THAT HE SPEAK WITH ME. PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED PDF. I PURCHASED A 2017 JAYCO 23BHM JAY FEATHER TT BACK IN JAN 2017. OVERALL I'M SATISFIED WITH THE QUALITY AND THE DESIGN OF THIS UNIT. I DO HAVE ONE SAFETY CONCERN OVER THE DECISION BE IT AT THE FACTORY PRODUCTION LEVEL OR BACK AT THE BEGINNING OF THE DESIGN STAGE. MY 2 ENTRY DOOR UNIT HAS A 3 STEP STAIR SET AT THE FRONT BUT ONLY A 2 STEP STAIR AT THE REAR DOOR. I WAS NOT TOLD THIS NOR DID I NOTICE IT UNTIL AFTER I PURCHASED THE TRAILER. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE FOR THOSE WHO ENTER MY UNIT FROM THE FRONT AND FOR WHAT EVER REASON EXIT OUT THE REAR DOOR NOT KNOWING THE DIFFERENCE IN THE NUMBER OF STEPS UNTIL THEY ARE TAKING THEIR LAST STEP. I'VE HAD A FEW FELLOW CAMPERS ALREADY ASK ME WHY JAYCO WOULD DO SUCH A THING ON THEIR TRAVEL TRAILERS. I CAN'T GIVE THEM A GOOD ANSWER OTHER THAN A SUPPOSED COST SAVINGS. I SEE THIS AS COST OVER SAFETY. ONLY THIS DECISION CAN END UP BEING VERY COSTLY THROUGH AN UNEXPECTED FALL AND POSSIBLE INJURY NOT TO MENTION THE LEGAL END OF THINGS. I'VE NOTICED THAT THE 2018 MODEL OF THIS UNIT HAS CORRECTED THIS SAFETY PROBLEM. I ASKED JAYCO WHAT THEY RECOMMEND I DO SHORT OF WARNING EVERYONE TO NOT USE THE BACK DOOR OF MY TRAILER? NO RESPONSE OTHER THAN AN EMAIL TO MY CONCERN TELLING ME THIS IS THE WAY THESE UNIT ARE AND DESIGNS CHANGE FROM TIME TO TIME. I STILL VIEW THIS AS A VERY UNSAFE PRODUCTION CHOICE AND AN ACCIDENT READY TO HAPPEN NOT ONLY FOR ME BUT FOR ALL WHO HAVE THIS TYPE OF FRONT AND REAR STEP MIS-MATCH. PLEASE ADVISE. THANK YOU.
