2 times, while driving 35-40 mph, the vehicle automatically slammed hard on brakes to full stop without any danger or other vehicle near, causing neck pain/whip lash. 3 days ago, I attempted a U-turn in busy intersection, suddenly the vehicle braked hard and came to full stop without any danger near. The dash lights lit up, the vehicle stalled. I was in middle of very busy intersection. It would not move forward. I reversed just in time to miss being slammed into by fast moving oncoming traffic.
The screen display in front of the driver showing speed, gas level, warning signals, traffic lane departure alerts goes blank and flashes on and off. Sometimes no screen at all for miles. At times all warning signals are lit up for many miles. This is an ongoing problem that has not been fixed over 3 visits soon to be 4.
INTERMITTENT FLICKERING ON AND OFF OF THE CARS DIGITAL GUAGES AND HEADS UP DISPLAY. NO KNOWN CAUSE OR CORRELATION. DEALERSHIP UNABLE TO DETERMINE CAUSE.
Shortly after arriving home from approximately 60 mile trip, vehicle had been park approximately 10 minutes, came out to smoke and flames coming from inside of vehicle. The vehicle has been picked up by insurance but unsure whether the vehicle fire has been reported to NHTSA or Hyundai. The vehicle has not been to the dealer since the fire. Fire department stated it appears fire started inside vehicle. No warning lamps, messages, or other problems prior to the fire.
The front end collision avoidance “feature” slammed on my brakes so hard today, for zero reason. I was already braking, going less than 20mph and had plenty of room. This is NOT the first time, closer to double digits since I purchase in April. This time the car behind me narrowly avoided hitting me which was made worse as my vehicle takes too long to unlock and allow me to begin driving again. This is going to cause an accident and ruin my tires/brakes costing me money.
The FAWS Forward Assistance Warning System incorrectly identifies a "sleepy driver" and turns off Adaptive Cruise Control. FAWS has a dozen triggers that will cause this system to incorrectly alert the driver that his eyes aren't looking at the road and it turns off ACC. The FAWS has a turn off switch but it does not turn it off. So, without this safety feature of Adaptive Cruise Control, the driver just gets constant alerts to stay alert. Hyundai claims it is working "as designed" and has a suggestion to invest in specific sunglasses, or not be taller than 6'1" so the eyes can be detected, or don't wear a hat. Seriously, these are in the manual.
I was 15 minutes into my commute home on route 9 in Massachusetts when I stopped at a red light. When I took my foot off the brake and stepped on the gas the car would not accelerate more than 5 miles an hour. I was stuck in the intersection for about 10 minutes and had to put on my hazards and get into the right lane and Keep driving at 5 mph until I found a place to pull over and restart the car. When I restarted it it drove ok
On numerous occasions (over 20) the forward collision system just slams on the brakes to a full stop, there was nothing close enough to vehicle to cause this issue. Sometimes it’s caused by rain or wind, sometimes for no apparent reasons. One time it caused a no damage accident as person behind me tapped my bumper. In traffic it is set off often with nothing within a safe distance away. There was no obstacles or sudden movements from other vehicles around me. I have brought the car back too Hyundai 3 times only to tell me either a dumb excuse or nothing is wrong with vehicle. I have seen on forums there are a lot of incidents with this particular car We have serviced the vehichle 3 different times over this issue and were told there is nothing wrong with the vehicle Accident happened in summer so I will say there was a crash in additional details but last date occurrence of automatic stop was this morning
Concern: DAW Driver Monitoring System False alerts shuts down cruise control. Safety issue when passing on interstate and suddenly the cruise shuts off and has to be reset. This warning sometimes goes off randomly and not due to driver attentiveness. If my arm is in top of steering wheel it blocks camera and wearing certain types of sunglasses. This system is asking the driver to not put his arm on top of wheel which is ridiculous.
All warning lights illuminate and the dashboard showing the speedometer shuts off while driving as well as the heads up display. You have no idea how fast you are going or if you are have any warning lights.
The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) is braking aggressively without a valid hazard, creating a serious rear-end collision risk. Incident 1 [XXX] , approx. 60 mph) : A vehicle legally changed into my lane with safe separation. The FCA system detected this as a collision risk and applied hard braking on the freeway. Following traffic had to brake abruptly and I narrowly avoided being rear-ended. Incident 2 (Intersection U-turn, 15 mph): While completing a permitted U-turn on a green light, the FCA detected a distant cross-traffic vehicle and suddenly braked in the intersection, leaving me stopped in an unsafe position. I set FCA sensitivity to the minimum/“Late” setting after the first event. The false hard-braking continues. Hyundai dealership [Anaheim Hyundai] states “no issue found.” This behavior is repeatable and unsafe. I request investigation into false positives and unintended hard braking, a software remedy, and guidance to disable automatic braking until fixed (warning-only) if permitted by Hyundai.Currently even if it is disabled it resets after the SUV is turned OFF. I realized there are multiple threads on reddit on the same issue for Tuscon 2025 models with some of them resulting in accidents. FCA system slammed brakes all the way to a complete stop in middle of traffic for no reason. Car in front was slowing down, and I was already braking at more than a safe distance. This is completely unacceptable and extremely dangerous. There needs to be a way to permanently disable this overkill feature that creates way worse problems than it is supposed to solve. There are numerous complaints about this issue from other owners of this model, please help!
I was driving on the road this morning approx. 25 mph (clear road, no rain, snow etc.) The car came to a full abrupt stop. Collusion/warning notification never came on (there was nothing in front of me) seatbelt locked. Car would not move. I put the car in park and had to turn the car off and back on to get the car to move. This honestly scared the life out of me. I had several cars behind me that could of rear ended my car and caused serious harm to myself or other drivers. I called the dealership (will be dropping off this evening) but they made it very clear that if they can not duplicate the problem there is nothing that they can do. The car has 8,000 miles on it and was purchased in April 2025.
Multiple times my vehicle has come to a complete stop unwarranted. There have been multiple instances of the automatic braking triggering on Michigan left hand turns with no traffic oncoming. This was reported to the dealer and they found no issue, however it has happened again since. The vehicle has also multiple times come to a full stop in heavy traffic when I was already braking and a full stop was unnecessary. There were two instances from this where I was very nearly rear ended, including on the expressway. There were no warnings that the system was malfunctioning.
Driver Assist Warning system. The driver assist warning in the vehicle provided a false alarm every 4-5 minutes while driving on the interstate. The trip was during the day and the driver was alert staying between the lane lines. The driver assist warning system was disabled in the vehicle settings. This problem has been reported by multiple individuals in the Hyundai forums.
The engine dipstick plastic bottom presents an issue to remove dipstick. Dipstick must be wiggled or twisted as it is pulled up without force for removal. The engine head and block holes are not in perfect alignment. The concern is if the dipstick is removed by force the plastic on the end of dipstick could be broken off and end up in the oil pan. That could cause engine damage and a possible safety issue losing power. Hyundai National Consumer Affairs has been notified but states they cannot report a design complaint directly. They offered the NHTSA as a place to report this concern. This was also experienced on another same make/model car on dealers' lot.
While driving at speed in heavy traffic, I quickly merged from the right lane to the left lane to avoid an obstacle. My vehicle and the new vehicle in front of me (in the left lane) were traveling at approximately the same speed, although there was an admittedly small (one half car length) distance between us. My forward collision assist inaccurately identified this new vehicle in front of me as a sudden danger that I was going to hit. It immediately applied full braking power and played the forward collision alert sound. This aggressive and unexpected stop spilled and broke items in my car as they slid, roughly strained me against my seat belt, and caused the vehicle behind me to aggressively brake. A rear end collision was narrowly avoided, only due to the fast reaction of the driver behind me. This aggressive and dangerous forward assist and emergency braking can only be temporarily disabled for one drive, and resets every time the vehicle is turned on. I have not had my vehicle inspected for this issue, but communities on the internet have confirmed that this is a common problem.
While driving a 2025 Hyundai Tucson rental vehicle (VIN: [XXX] ), I experienced a sudden and unintended acceleration, and the steering appeared to turn without input. The vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree on a local street two blocks from my residence. The result was the wheel was popped off of it's axel and deflated immediately. Two days prior, I experienced a similar event in the same vehicle — sudden acceleration and braking hard making a loud braking noise. I suspect a mechanical or electronic malfunction. No warning or sensors were alerting me that this would happen. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The "Consider Taking a Break" indicator illuminates erratically. We can drive it for 200 miles and it won't come on or we can drive it for 13 miles and it comes on 9 times. We've had the vehicle in the dealership for inspection (3) times. The dealership could not get it to fail. The dealership and Hyundai America said it's nothing they can do. It's an unnecessary annoying "distraction" while we're driving and we know distracted driving is the main cause of accidents. We had an incident where I took my eyes off the road to check the warning "Consider Taking a Break" light and bell came on, at that moment a large wild bird flew towards my windshield. The bird would have hit my windshield if it wasn't for my passenger yelling to stop. We had another incident where my spouse took her eyes off the road to check the "Consider Taking a Break" light came on when she was approaching a cross walk with a pedestrian in it. The problem has not been duplicated by the dealer. They may assume all of us are poor drivers because they suggested changing sun glasses, keep hands at 10 & 2, don't block the camera, sit straight up in driver seat, etc. I told the dealership and Hyundai America that I was willing to have this dangerous feature an option that I could turn off or totally removed. They said they can't do it because it's a safety feature.
Many 2025 Hyundai Tucson owners have reported significant issues with the driver attention warning feature, particularly when using cruise control and wearing sunglasses, leading to safety concerns and frustration. Common Complaints Constant Alerts: Many drivers have experienced the driver attention warning activating unnecessarily, especially while using cruise control. Users report that the system beeps and prompts them to keep their eyes on the road, even when they are attentive and looking straight ahead. This has led to frustration, with some considering disabling the feature entirely. 2 Sunglasses Interference: A recurring issue is that the driver attention warning system struggles to detect the driver's eyes when sunglasses are worn. This has caused the system to issue warnings and disable cruise control, which can be particularly dangerous in heavy traffic situations. Drivers have noted that even moderately tinted sunglasses can trigger these alerts, making it difficult to use the vehicle comfortably. 2 Safety Concerns: Some users have reported alarming incidents where the driver attention warning system caused abrupt braking, leading to near-collisions. For instance, one driver described a situation where the system suddenly applied the brakes while driving between vehicles, creating a hazardous situation. This has raised serious safety concerns among owners, particularly regarding the system's reliability and responsiveness. 1 Lack of Support from Hyundai: Many driv
The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving 55 MPH, the contact attempted to switch lanes, and the Forward Collision Avoidance feature intermittently activated, bringing the vehicle to a complete stop. The contact started to experience neck pain from the consistency of the failure, but did not seek medical attention. The failure had occurred on several different occasions. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the vehicle was performing as designed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that she was concerned that the brakes would sustain damage over time due to the constant failures. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that if the contact permanently disabled the Forward Collision Avoidance feature, the warranty would be affected. The failure mileage was approximately 8.
My instrument cluster goes off/on intermittently causing a safety issue (I'm unable to see how fast I'm driving etc). The problem has happened to me everyday for the last 1.5 weeks, however the dealer has had the car for a week now and claims they can't replicate the issue to get the code to order the part (I have filed a complaint with Hyundai). I want to go on record as this is not a recall with hyundai yet, but I am aware it is a well known problem with 2025 Hyundai Tucson's according to a North America Facebook page I belong to where we discuss various topics (positive and negative) regarding our cars.
There is a "consider taking a break" warning that pops up pretty often on this car. When I am doing normal driving. It is a MAJOR distraction and creates an unsafe situation. There is no way to turn off this feature
The car breaks itself so abruptly when there is no real danger. This has almost caused for me to be rear ended on multiple occasions. Especially scary on the freeway. The forward collision warning is set to "late," and it still causes a huge jolt.
I have taken the vehicle to dealer every month since purchase . The light for the forward collision inside the RPM dial continues to come on as I driving . I have made several attempts with the dealer to fix this matter. The vehicle is new . It now has 13,696 miles on it now since purchase. I have a case with HYUNDAI of America . I left my vehicle with the dealer for a month of this time and I got my vehicle back , it had grey seats instead of black. My tires were different as there are rotated burn marks on the exterior of them . Something is wrong here . I am inheriting a problem that is not safe while driving . My understanding from reading about the forward collision light is deactivating while driving . How is this safe for the driver and occupants or others on the road .
I bought a Hyundai Tucson Hybrid 2025 on Aug. 7, 2025. My car has 1541 miles on Oct. 8. I tried to drive my car out of the garage, and the engine would start, but it wouldn't move forward or backward. There were three warnings on the dashboard: Powertrain, hybrid, and something. Hyundai headquarters called and said there was a problem with my car. They will send a tow truck. It has been one week since my car was taken to the dealer. I haven't heard back. When I called today, they said there was a problem with the TCM and they ordered a module. So, I guess I just have to wait and see.
The safety feature on this SUV. “Take a break” the fact that it blares at you and makes so much noise all the time is so dumb. It can flash all it wants but when I’m traveling a long distance and I have kids or other people sleeping the car and get woke up because it’s beeping so loud it’s annoying. I think the noise should be able to be disabled. I can’t be the only one that this drives crazy.
I was traveling on [XXX] in Nashville. There was a motorcycle speed trap on the right shoulder so I moved over to the left. The car in front of me also moved to the left and my car slammed on the brakes and came to a complete stop on the highway. I was badly rear-ended causing $12,500 in damage. This has happened 2 other times to me since then. This seems to be a consistent problem with the 2025 Hyundai Tucson. I'm fixing my car and selling it as I don't feel safe. The vehicle will continuously pop up the notification “Consider Taking A Break” while driving at highway speeds when using the adaptive cruise control. When this occurs it emits 6-7 audible beeps that distract the driver from the wrong and to look towards the instrument cluster. It was also turn down the infotainment system as well. This feature is unable to be turned off in the settings z it has continuously distracted my driving and made it more unsafe while driving at highway speeds. It makes the adaptive cruise control not worth using which is more harmful for a driver to continually have to accelerate and decelerate.
Vehiclr has been doing this since 4 montbs after purchase, then a recall came out we were told it would fix the problem. 3 times now since the recall the odometer screen and media screen will go blank while your driving. The car wont accelerate, turn signals, and steering colum becomes hard to operate properly. We have had to near accidents 1 being less than 2 hours in August of 2025 after Hyundai just claimed to repair the issue. We were driving on [XXX], screen went out, we lost full control of steering, had to wrestle with the wheel to keep car in its lane, we were almost hit by semi truck and ran off road. We immediately took car back to dealership, and shop assistant mgr was able to see for himself, it wasnt working after theu just made repair. They kept car a few days we were very reluctant to take vehicle back, out of these safety concerns, and my family having to ride in this vehicle. We took ot back as the dealership assured us the matter had been taken care. Then last week on [XXX], in the evening was driving down street and the screens started to flicker and the car wouldnt stay centeryed in the lane, then it happened both went blank, the car slowed down and the fight began on operating vehicle. In regards to no turn signal would go off, it wouldnt accelerate, the steering wouldnt operate correctly, if O wanted to center the car in the lane, it would pull the car another direction. A 7 minute ride home took over 20 minutes. We took car back to World Hyundai Matteso

There is a camera mounted on the steering column that is "supposed" to be a safety feature to tell you when you are not paying attention to the road. It gives you a picture of a coffee cup and says "consider taking a break" along with repetitive beeping. Unfortunately, if you wear sunglasses (mine are prescription), a hat, are too short or too tall it can go off repeatedly. It is extremely distracting and causes you to take your eyes off the road to see what's going on. On a 350 mile trip that I make often, it has gone off for a solid hour every 4 minutes! It averages about 30-40 times in that 5 1/2 hour trip. It also mutes anything that is playing through the infotainment system including directions. I have asked the dealer who says there is nothing they can do and it is a known problem. Hyundai says it is functioning as designed. I have also filed a report with Hyundai. A safety feature that causes distractions is not a safety feature! Also, the emergency braking has almost caused me to get rear ended on a number of occasions. I have been in the process of slowing down or braking when the emergency system kicks in and almost throws me through the windshield. Cars following at a reasonable distance have to slam on their brakes to avoid hitting me. Isn't this feature supposed to help you avoid accidents, not cause them
In my 2024 Tuscon, Hyundai has connected their cruise control to their driver assistance function. This system includes a camera on the steering column that watches the drivers eyes. If for any reason, they cannot see your eyes they will shutdown cruise control without warning. This can be caused by simply wearing sun glasses. So this forces the customer to choose between two safety features. Cruise control which we all know has signifcant safety implications reducing stress fatique, etc. and bypass all the driver assistance systems. There are people who are putting black tape over the camera and disabling DAS so they can use their cruise control due to the inability to wear sun glasses when heading west (obviously even within a curve, so it shuts down unexectedly in the curve). Surely that is not an acceptable solution. Hyundai should add an option to ignore the eye checks while using the cruise control but so far they have totally ignored it. You can google for "Hyundai cruise control sunglasses" and will see a lot of complaints and people disabling safety features. Obviously there is no specific event, this is happening all the time in the US.
The following problems began 5 months ago, 8 months after purchase with about 4770 mileage and current mileage of about 7623: Multiple occurrences of Check Engine light coming on, sometimes setting DTC code, but often not setting code. Multiple occurrences of Crash Warning light coming on; It may have set a code or codes, but usually not. I think neither dealer was able to reproduce these 2 intermittent problems. Engine light, so far, has not occurred since it was traced to faulty connectors. As far as I know, the Crash Warning light has not come on since the dealer reduced front camera sensitivity. Also, for the past 5 months there has been intermittent, engine miss, skipping or cut-out. As of this writing it still occurs while driving and will lurch or buck if it happens under acceleration This is not frequent, but it happens erratically and it may happen only once or a few times in one day or several days between. This has not set a DTC code as far as I know; I think the following may be related to the skipping. Once, while coming to a stop, the engine stopped or almost stopped; it bucked when it happened, but continued to run. All warning lights came on for a second or two, then went off, except 3 warning lights and the warning triangle. Although the engine was running, the tachometer and speedometer read Zero. The engine bucked as I slowly drove into a parking lot, then I restarted the engine; it seemed ok, then. About 3 weeks later, while driving at slow speed, just as
I was driving on a highway in the largest city in the world and while vehicle merging into my vehicle, Hyundai Tucson automatically and abruptly engaged emergency forward collision. There was absolutely not necessary. All loose items in vehicle went flying inside of my car. My body went forward as well as my passengers. Luckily I was not rear ended in an accident. This is the third incident of the vehicle automatically engaging safety features which actually does the opposite and is a hazard, since I bought the car in Feb 2025. There is no way to permanently disable these features. A driver not being in control of their car is a huge liability on the road. This vehicle must be recalled to disable this feature. Perhaps in a rural area somewhere in the world with no other cars around , this wouldn’t be an issue. Large cities with vehicular and pedestrian traffic it is a danger.
First incident was July 2025 . Car had 1300 miles. Would not accelerate over 25 miles an hour. Made an appointment with Route 60 Hyundai in Vero Bch, Fl. They could not find anything wrong. (invoice # [XXX]) Second time [XXX]. 3009 miles on the speedometer. The car would not accelerate over 4mph. After several minutes acceleration was possible. We will once again return to Route 60 Hyundai. Car could not get thru a busy intersection. Very dangerous. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving at 40 MPH, the vehicle was swaying from side to side. The connection was not secure to the steering wheel. The contact had to correct the steering wheel. Additionally, there was static on the radio, and the screen was inoperable. The screen went from white to black. When the heat was in the off position, hot air was entering through the vents. There were fumes inside the vehicle. The Forward Collision Avoidance assist, master warning, intelligent driving assist, and forward safety warning lights were illuminated. The local dealer was contacted, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure but was able to reset the radio. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and determined that the vehicle failed to meet the qualification for the Lemon Law. The failure mileage was approximately 500.
Under two occasions I was driving on the highway at a safe distance from the car in front of me and my car emergency braking system triggered and went off and caused my car to stop in the middle of the highway. This caused a collision behind me. There was no reason on either occasion for the braking to bring the car to a hault.
Control screen keeps going randomly blank, for different periods of time, putting the driver at risk, because the vehicle information, including speed, lights, wipers, basically everything is displayed in this screen. Sometimes the sentence NO SIGNAL shows up. I had experienced several scary situations, specially in freeways when raining, you have zero driving information. The car has been to the dealership service 4 times, with different tentatives of repair, none of which worked. The last time my car was at the dealership service for 25 days and after 2 days the problem was back, even worse. Sometimes all the lights of the control screen light up, with no reason and keep on even after the car is turned off. This is our only car and we need it, but the car is absolutely unsafe and unreliable. I refuse to leave the car for a 5th time, Hyundai has no idea what the issue is and obviously cannot fix it. The lane assist is also malfunctioning, sometimes the warning system doesn’t work properly. Twice the car emergency brakes stopped the car abruptly without a reason to do so (no risk of collision, no car or object in front ). One of those times the car behind me almost hit me, because the stop was abrupt and for no reason. I have many videos and pictures, but apparently I cannot upload the videos in this form. I have the paperwork, but Hyundai refused to refund for the vehicle. I highly recommend an investigation, Hyundai is getting away with a very serious problem and someone wi
The contact purchased a 2025 Hyundai Tucson. The contact discovered a mileage discrepancy after purchasing the vehicle. The vehicle was a dealer sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 77. It was later discovered that the mileage on the Title was 143. The contact also stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the hazard lights and Forward Collision Avoidance warning lights unexpectedly illuminated without any vehicles nearby. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed nor repaired. The contact was informed by the dealer that the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 4,000.
9/26/25. Friday late afternoon at 5PM. Driving on the Southern State Parkway in stop and go traffic…. the traffic opens up and we start driving to about 10 MPH, with no emergency present and the car did an emergency stop on it’s own. Frightening experience…it’s amazing we didn’t get rear-ended. This is the third time this happened, but I only documented this time. At least 5 times now when no car was breaking extremely close to me or when I gently touched the breaks the automatic emergency breaking kicked in and slammed the car to a stop. Twice the car behind me had to swerve out of the way and hit another car causing 2 accidents without my car being involved. Once it caused me to hit my head on the steering wheel. This function is more destructive and dangerous than helpful. At no time should my car go from 70 to 0 in a second for no reason, but with this it does. Got the car in the March 2025 so 5 times in 7 months.
On Sept.12,2025, I was driving with two family members. i was stopped at a light with the auto on/off engaged. Fortunately, i had my foot on the brake as the engine revved very significantly. I threw the car into neutral and the engine returned to normal. Had I not done so, we would have plowed into two cars in front of us at the light. The car was taken to the dealership; but, they could not duplicate a recurrence in road testing.
The rear brake lights and turn signals on my 2025 Hyundai Tucson are not visible to following drivers due to their low placement and design. Multiple drivers have nearly rear-ended us because they could not see when I was braking or signaling. The lights function electrically, but their position makes them obstructed and not noticeable from normal following distances. This is a serious safety hazard and creates a high risk of rear-end collisions. The dealer confirmed the lights work as designed but cannot change their position. This is a design defect that cannot be repaired and should be investigated for recall.
Forward collision warning automatic braking caused car behind me to rear-end me. This is the first accident but third time the automatic braking unnecessarily caused an issue. The car in front of me was far enough away that it did not require an auto-brake.
The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while driving 24 MPH, the vehicle shuddered abnormally. After releasing the accelerator pedal and slowing down, the shuddering ceased. There were no warning lights illuminated. Additionally, the Auto STOP/START feature failed to activate as designed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the electric oil pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The dealer then diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.
Air bag safety light is on
I was driving the vehicle at 30 MPH when the power to the instrument cluster, infotainment center and headlights went out for approximately 1-2 seconds before recovering. Engine maintained power and acceleration during this period. During blackout I was unable to view speedometer nor other instrument information.
My Tucson was involved in a MVA. I was hit in the rear end by another SUV on the rear back passenger side of the vehicle. During impact, the steering wheel literally detached from the dashboard in my driver's hands leaving us with no way to steer or maneuver the vehicle. The result of this safety failure could have lead to serious injury or death of myself, my driver or anybody in the path of the vehicle. We did have hit anything. There is zero front or side damage to the Tucson. No airbags deployed, not even the one in the steering wheel. There were no warning lights or anything indicating there was a problem w the vehicle. I called the dealership and filed a complaint with Hyundai consumer affairs. They had an inspector go inspect the vehicle and followed up w a letter stating the vehicle did as it was designed to. The vehicle was deemed a total loss from my insurance company. It is currently sitting in impound and unsure if it is available for future inspection. There was zero issues with the vehicle prior to this incident other than a stone chip to the windshield that was due to be replaced. This vehicle was only 5 months old.

What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
