I brought my 2014 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid in for the 964- AUXILIARY CANISTER INSTALLION & 966- ENGINE MONITORING LOGIC Service recall campaigns on 12/08/21. Today, 12/21/21, in heavy traffic on the highway, my car engine abruptly shuts off, immediately decelerating, completely losing any ability to accerate while the engine light, parking break light come on along with an "electric motor warning - safely pull over and do not drive" message on the dashboard. All this happens while a high pitch alarm goes off. All happening simultaneously without warning on the highway with vehicles surrounding us driving 70 mph! This has never happened prior to today and should never happen. How we managed to avoid an accident or worse was a miracle. This was life threatening and should not be taken lightly!

Vehicle died while driving on the highway had to pull over and have the car towed. Hyaundai dealership diagnosed it as a bad engine bearing which was part of an open and active recall which they confirmed. Hyaundai advised it is part of a recall that is still open but stated we didn’t come soon enough so they refuse to fix it. We never received the recall notice and the recall is still open and active.

Sept 30, 2021 I was driving home on the highway with a speed limit Of 65mph, I was in the far left lane when my car started slowing down and all of my MIL's lit up the dashboard. I started panicking stepping on the gas pedal to speed up because of the traffic but I was unable to. But i managed to pull over to the shoulder then I turned off the car, waited a few minutes, then started the car back up. I proceeded off the exit managing only 35mph max speed. I had someone check my car And they found out I was low by 2 qts of oil. But prior to this I had just had my oil changed 1 month before. The car has 116100 mi on the odometer. The next day I contacted my local Hyundai dealership and was told I will need to have the car towed to them at that location. I was also told the time frame for someone to look at my car and repair would be 90 days turn around time. They advised me to contact other surrounding Hyundai dealerships. I contacted the another dealership and was told that I needed an appointment and I was scheduled to bring my car in a week later. My car has been at the dealership since 10/5/21. On oct 8th I was told they needed to perform a complete engine diagnostic, and a bearing clearance test to determine if the bearings have failed which results in internal engine failure. Which turned out to be a P1326 code. They also informed me that the engine would need to be replaced but would need it authorized by corporate. This is the message I received from Hyundai personnel: "

When driving at night headlights, and all lights goes off.(I do not drive much after dark, but this needs to be addressed). It has happened a few times this past year, thought it was me, yet my daughter used the car and she had it happened 4 or 5 times.Sometimes it happens when you use directional lights. No warning when it happens, which is very dangerous .There is only less than 68,000 miles. Supposed to be under warranty 100,000 miles or 10 years, yet I am told I have to pay $150.00 to do diagnostic which may not be solving the problem which is not fair. Looking online there are many complaints of this on this year and model. Asked the manufacturer when will they do a recall? After someone gets killed?

The acceleration and, subsequently, the engine failed while on the freeway. All warning lights came on. This was a high-risk and potentially very dangerous situation to be on the freeway and have your vehicle suddenly lose power. The car was towed by AAA to a nearby service center. The mechanic there, as well as the AAA mechanic, both identified the engine issue and were aware of the current recall issue. They instructed to tow it to a dealer. It sat at an off-site lot owned by the Kearney Mesa Hyundai dealership for over a month, requiring car rental fees in excess of $1,000, before it was even diagnosed as an engine failure. But now, it still hasn't been approved by Hyundai Motor America for an engine replacement. First, I was told that they needed maintenance records. I provided those, plus all the recall notices I had received related to this, and for which I had brought the vehicle in for. They said the maintenance records weren't sufficient to reach a final decision. I was told by the dealership that they have asked them "to take pictures of the valve train, which requires them to remove the valve cover and order additional parts to reinstall in the event the engine is not approved." I don't understand this lengthy process -- and making me jump through hoops -- considering Hyundai is already under a concent order and subject to a total civil penalty of $140 million for its untimely handling of these engine recalls in the first place. Their website says: "Hyundai is comm

The event caused 2 cars to leave roadway to avoid crashing. After getting to emergency lane the engine started back up with no malfunction indicator lamps or check engine light. Completed the remaining 5 mile trip at slow speed with the vehicle stalling once again as I was parking. This vehicle had recalls and never received any information regarding them. Hyundai denied engine replacement for not having knock sensor update performed. Purchased the car on February 7, 2017 and took car to dealership on August 21,2018 because of no brake lights. They performed inspection on 2 recalls that I was not aware of because I received no information on. The dealership never mentioned an open service campaign regarding a knock sensor update (Remedy date August 9,2018) that could have warned me of these problems and extended the engine warranty to a lifetime warranty. The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while his son was driving 30 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated the instrument panel with an abnormal clicking sound coming from the engine. The contact towed the vehicle to an independent mechanic who informed him that the vehicle was no longer safe to be driven. The contact then called a dealer and had the vehicle towed to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The contact was informed that the engine had failed and that the dealer needed approval from the manufacturer to replace the engine. The contact was called back and informed that they would not be able to service the vehicle because the vehicle had a salvage title. The contact then called the manufacturer directly and was given the same information. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000. From contact: Hyundai National has been extremely uncooperative. It was explained to them that the vehicle was about to prove fatal to his son, but none of the executives (to which the contact reached via email) replied via email. The case manager was rude and said she is the ultimate authority to make any decision and she has made a decision that Hyundai will not cover the repair of the vehicle. It should be noted that the salvage title of the vehicle had nothing to do with the engine. It was hit at the rear right due to which the vehicle was salvaged. Similar problems have h

After getting my car off the road safely but barley I turned it off and turned it back on and check engine light still flashing and now my car will not proceed higher than 2000 rpm or over 60 mph. Took my car to a shop and the ran scanner and it came back as knock sensor. That was replaced and my car did the same thing after driving it about 2 miles. They ran the scan codes again and this time it came back as VVT solenoid. That was replaced but while replacing the solenoid When took out there was copper/metal shavings on the solenoid. Doing further investigation on this it is shown that the car of the same year make and model I have has had recall for engine failure for the bearings which would cause the shavings on my solenoid but my car is not under the recall but having the same exact problem.

Dear Sir/Madam, I bought the vehicle in 2016 from a local dealer, unknown to me that the vehicle had a branded/salvage title. After driving for a few years, about a month and half ago, while driving the engine just stalled on me. After having back and forth with Hyundai National Team and Hyundai Corporate, they denied my warranty claim that because its a salvaged title. The engine is original and was not tempered with as confirmed my Local Hyundai Dealer. Hyundai has currently recalled about 1.6 Million vehicles due to premature bearing wear and potential engine failure issue. The vehicle currently has 65,000 miles on it, and the engine breakdown is an internal failure. Having a salvage title should not be a reason to deny the claim especially when its not a cosmetic problem but an engine failure itself. Spending $6,000 - $8,000 on a new engine is completely unaffordable for me. I will appreciate any help you can provide after I have been suffering without car for almost 2 months in these difficult COVID times.

On 06/11/2021, I visited Hyundai Harrisonburg, VA service center to perform some recalls as per the attached documents. They performed recall #162 for the engine problem & installed a special software to monitor the knocking problem. They didn't open the engine to check the crank or the bearing wear. They asked me to keep an eye on the engine and if any thing happens, I could return back immediately to them. Only after 6 days, smoke started to go out of the exhaust and I couldn't drive the vehicle over 40 MPH. I drove the vehicle to them and left it for a week. After a week; when I called them, they told me that the engine needs to be changed with a new one but they couldn't contact Hyundai USA to send them a new engine because the car was driven more than 120K miles as per Hyundai rule (10 years/120K miles). 3rd Brake light. The tailgate light that is in the rear middle inside the vehicle goes off and the bulb base is melting due to heat. It's available for inspection upon request. Moreover, it's a known problem in many models of my vehicle. This light is a part of the safety inspection in my state VA which means it's important to have it working all the time. If the vehicle driver behind me doesn't notice that I'm in a stopping process or pressing on the brake paddle, both of us will be at risk especially on the high way. Yes the problem was confirmed by Hyundai and many service centers confirmed it. There was also a recall regarding this problem but didn't solve it permanently. It happened again and service centers don't fix those affected vehicles again. Since there was a recall before, this component was inspected and confirmed by the manufacturer. They should keep fixing it till they find a permanent solution or change the part with a better one like LED for example to reduce heat. There was no warning lamp, message, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. It's discovered when someone behind the affected vehicle warns me or the traffic police stops me. This is the most important brake light because at night it's the only light that warns other vehicles drivers behind me that's I'm reducing the speed or in a stop status since other right and left stop lights are shared with normal tailgate lights and might not warn others. Break lights continue to burn out. In the 5 yrs I've had the vehicle this is a constant issue. I've taken the vehicle to Balise Hyundai replacing the Bulbs multiple times and replaced one Harness. Today both break lights had to have a full assembly replacement, including harness and the bulbs melted the plastic. The passenger break light even exploded that's how overheated it became. There have been no indication when these lights burn out. I've always had a stranger, neighbor, family or friend alert me that one of my lights were out. 4/26/21 a stranger driving behind pulled up next to me to alert me my tail lights were out. Not knowing break lights out is a safety hazard whether driving on street or highway. The back window has an additional light that has continued to work. In the last 3 years my driving was reduced more than 60% as I relocated to work from home. The vehicle was serviced today 6/2/21 at Hiley Hyundai who performed the most recent inspection and diagnostic on the vehicle, as well as performed the repairs.

WHAT SEEMS TO BE RANDOM AND WITHOUT PROVOCATION, THE CAR WILL SOUND A BEEPING ALARM THAT ONLY SOUNDS ON THE INTERIOR, IT WILL DEACTIVATE THE ACCELERATOR (BASICALLY PUTS THE CAR IN NEUTRAL), AND WILL DISPLAY A WARNING MESSAGE THAT READS "HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING! SAFELY STOP AND DO NOT DRIVE. CHECK BRAKE". NO MATTER WHAT SPEED THE CAR IS TRAVELING AT, IT CAN UNDERGO THIS PROBLEM. IF BRAKES ARE APPLIED DURING THIS ISSUE, IT WILL SOUND AS IF THE BRAKES ARE GRINDING AND ARE NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE ISSUE CAN ONLY BE RESOLVED BY PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN PARK, TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE, AND RESTARTING IT. IF THIS IS DONE, THE CAR IS BACK TO 'NORMAL' FUNCTION. IT HAS CERTAINLY BEEN A SAFETY HAZARD AS IT HAS DONE IT MULTIPLE TIMES IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHER RATES OF SPEED, AND THE CAR STALLS OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY. THE HYUNDAI SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS FOUND NO ISSUE AFTER RUNNING DIAGNOSTICS, AND SAYS THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO REMEDY THE ISSUE OVERALL.
