Filed Jan 22, 2026568,576 vehiclesHyundai Motor America

Defect. Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2020-2025 Palisade vehicles. The side curtain air bags for third-row occupants may deploy improperly in a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 226, "Ejection Mitigation."

Risk. Improper side curtain air bag deployment increases the risk of injury during a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will install a protective film over the rear window and remove padding, as necessary free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed beginning March 13, 2026. Final remedy owner letters will be mailed in phases, beginning in June 2026 and expected to continue through December 2026. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. After slowing to make a right or left turn, pressing on the accelarrator causes no response for ten to fifteen seconds. This proble seems to be in numerous Palisades for 2023 to 2026. Numerous message boards have reports of this issue with the dealer not being able to repair the problem. I myself almost gor into an accident due to this issue.

On 9/15/26 I had activated my left turn signal and was entering the left hand turn lane. About halfway into the lane, the vehicle dashboard displayed “Emergency steering activated” and began forcing my steering wheel the opposite direction for no reason. There was no traffic and I was not crossing into somewhere I shouldn’t. This was extremely dangerous. I haven’t notified Hyundai. Weather was sunny and clear.

Since January 2026, the southern states Hyundai dealership in Raleigh, North Carolina has given me excuses or refused to provide service for the recalls on my car unless we use a paid for service through them. recently on XXX I brought my car in for one of two recalls. Two hours prior to my appointment I called the dealership to confirm everything was all set and the timeframe. Upon arriving for my appointment, I was told that the part for the seatbelt recall had come in and the dealership was unable to complete both recalls at the time of my appointment so I requested one to be completed and then I would come back for the other another day. The dealership refused they stated “I could leave my car and just go into work a little late the next day.” They stated “ we will not get paid if we complete only one and not the other” I was turned away from my appointment unless I would go into work late the next day and leave my car overnight without a rental. Southern states Hyundai in [XXX] has denied on multiple occasions since January 2026 any recalls to be completed and hassled us every time we come in for an oil change or a state inspection due to not completing the recalls, but they also don’t have the parts and will not communicate when parts are available. Following a dealer transfer assembly replacement under warranty on a 2025 Hyundai Palisade, technicians failed to perform a post-repair alignment and left the driveshaft unseated. The 2nd dealership we went to subsequently misdiagnosed the resulting suspension warping as 'tire overinflation' on June 5. As a direct result, my family unknowingly drove thousands of highway miles across state lines to MT and SD with an unseated drivetrain and a completely loose structural subframe bolt, presenting a severe risk of catastrophic suspension/steering failure at highway speeds. They misdiagnosed 3 times and claimed to do test drives each time, but each time we got in the vehicle, we heard the noises, they said they could not hear. Had a mechanic ride with to verify the noise, and only diagnosed the driveshaft unseated afterward, but not the subframe bolt, which the structural defect was finally confirmed on August 25, the 4th time at the 2nd dealer.

The outside temperature was approximately 102°F and conditions were sunny. I did not see or hear any object strike the sunroof before the glass failed. There was no collision or other event immediately preceding the failure. The interior sunshade was closed and contained much of the shattered glass. The front sunroof glass was extensively fractured while the surrounding roof and rear roof glass showed no apparent impact damage. I have photographs documenting the condition immediately after the incident. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

We were in the hospital parking garage and the car again stop/stalled/shut down and I physically had to restart it again. This time I was driving with the auto stop off. I have experience this again at 21 thousand plus. Again I was at a stop light. The auto stop was off. The car stall/stop/completely shut down again. Car had to be restarted while again in traffic. Hyundai had been notified of the stall/stops. This was the last time I was dealing with this problem and took it into Happy Hyundai in Libertyville Illinois. They had it for a week. They did run test, but the car was not giving any codes. Happy Hyundai did not run it over the weekend for on my bluelink I get notification. On Monday my husband called and told them to drive it because this is when we are experiencing the problem. Happy Hyundai drove it once. Tech was not able to replicate it. My husband also took Happy Hyundai to let it run. They let the car run. This is what happen when we were in the hospital parking lot. We were sitting. Seat Belts

I am the owner of a 2025 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy FWD, VIN [XXX], which currently has two unrepaired safety recalls. The most concerning unresolved recall is NHTSA Recall 25V607 / Hyundai Recall 283, involving front-row and second-row outer seat-belt buckle assemblies that may contain out-of-specification components. According to the recall notice, the buckle may fail to fully latch under certain conditions, creating an increased risk of injury to occupants in a crash. I have been attempting to have this safety recall remedied, but Hyundai has been unable to provide the necessary replacement part. The dealership has advised me that the seat-belt buckle part was ordered but remains on backorder. Hyundai Motor America Consumer Affairs has also confirmed that they are still waiting for the part to arrive at the dealership. I have repeatedly contacted both the dealership and Hyundai Motor America regarding this unresolved safety recall. Hyundai assigned my case to National Consumer Affairs under case number XXX. I have been given multiple promised dates for updates and phone calls, but those calls have repeatedly been postponed without the recall being remedied. Hyundai has most recently confirmed to me in writing that it is still "diligently working on getting the seat buckle order into the dealership" and that I will be contacted by the dealer once the part arrives. My vehicle also has an additional unrepaired safety recall, NHTSA Recall 26V034 / Hyundai Recall 292, concern

Vehicle Speed Control

This 2025 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy is a “Top of the Line” model loaded with automatic gadgetry that is NOT ready for Prime Time or any roadway. It is unsafe for the following reasons: Problems appear to be software up-date related; the software updates way too often via overnight web connection. These updates not only change existing status of mundane systems (hatch or doors unlocking opening, etc.); these updates appear to insert bugs into the operating system which then affects the safety of automated vehicle systems which then create unsafe driving conditions on roads. The biggest safety concern is with Hyundai’s “Smart Cruise Control” system. When a driver chooses a set speed they want to follow, here is what happens often: The Hyundai Smart Cruise Control is turned on and a driver “attempts” to index to the desired speed. Once this speed is actually attained all is good. IF the posted road speed limit increases from 25 MPH to 40 MPH the driver has 2 choices, hold the speed increase button in for 3 seconds for a 5 MPH bump up OR press the button quickly for 1 MPH bump ups. Instead, here is what happens OFTEN, a 3 second hold jumps the speed to 65 MPH desired speed! Or, a quick bump jumps to 50 MPH desired speed! It is random and sporadic to what actually happens, so a driver must pay attention and cancel cruise control quickly, then get things back to normal and begin over. All this occurs while moving on a roadway at speed, hence UNSAFE biggly! Also, what happens, th

The contact owned a 2025 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed with both feet, but the brakes failed to engage properly. The vehicle slid and jumped, and the brakes made a grinding sound. No warning light was illuminated. The failure caused the vehicle to rear-end another vehicle in front. The air bags deployed. The contact experienced neck pain, and her husband suffered a burn mark from the air bag deployment. The contact's eleven-year-old son suffered neck pain and a seat belt burn, while her other child had no injuries seated in a car seat. Medical attention was received. A Police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a salvage yard and declared a total loss by the insurance company. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact stated that prior to the crash, the vehicle had been taken to the dealer for the brake failure, and the dealer performed a brake inspection and passed the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 16,000.

What happened: A franchised Hyundai dealership installed aftermarket window tint on a new 2025 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy Night Edition prior to sale without disclosing it as a dealer add-on. When the vehicle was brought in for an active manufacturer safety recall concerning the rear quarter-window glass, the dealership informed us that the official factory recall remedy (applying a protective safety film) cannot adhere to window tint. Because the dealer-installed tint prevents the recall protective film from adhering, the dealership was unable to perform the safety recall unless the window tint was permanently removed or omitted. Component involved: Rear quarter-window glass and safety recall protective film. The vehicle and windows are available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: The official Hyundai safety recall addresses an issue where the rear quarter-window glass poses a potential safety risk. Because the dealer-installed modification physically prevents the application of the recall safety film, the vehicle remains without the manufacturer's required safety recall remedy. Furthermore, dealership service personnel initially advised us to simply waive or decline the safety-related recall rather than resolving the modification conflict, leaving a potential safety hazard unaddressed. Dealer Confirmation & Inspection: The issue was confirmed by the authorized Hyundai dealership's service department and Service Director in writing. They verified that the recall fil

Upon returning home on 7/20/2025, I smelled a strong odor of gasoline. I looked under the car and saw that gas was leaking from a small hole on the (R) rear side of the tank. The hole was an approximately 1/16" . Due to danger of flammable fuel vapor and leaking gas I parked away from the house and put a temporary plug to stop the leak. I was shocked to find that the fuel tank was unshielded and made of thin walled plastic. There no warning indicators given prior to this incident. The vehicle has 12383 miles on it. Cause of the leak is unknown, possibly a poor mold casting of the tank.

My 2025 Hyundai Palisade intermittently experiences an abnormally high engine idle of approximately 1,500 RPM during the first few minutes of driving. The condition occurs randomly and is not present on every trip. While stopped at stop signs or intersections with my foot firmly on the brake pedal, I can feel the engine pushing against the brakes because of the elevated idle speed. When I release the brake pedal, the vehicle accelerates forward significantly faster than it normally would at idle. The engine speed eventually returns to a normal idle after several minutes of driving, but during the event the vehicle behaves unpredictably. This has occurred on both flat roads and hills. I have documented the condition on video showing the tachometer at approximately 1,500 RPM while the vehicle is stopped and my foot is on the brake. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Hyundai dealership and remained there for approximately one week. The dealership was unable to reproduce the condition during testing and returned the vehicle without repairs. No warning lights or messages have appeared. Because the condition is intermittent and results in unexpected forward acceleration when the brake is released, I believe it presents a potential safety risk.

The issue my car is having happens when the car is but I am at a complete stop and the auto on/off stop engages. I start again and turn the wheel all the way to the left and begin to drive. The wheel locks, then violently snaps back. In some instances it will set off the sensors and disengage the vehicle while I’m pulled out into traffic. I have brought this to the dealerships attention as well as corporate Hyundai. I was told they were able to recreate the problem and it is standard operating procedure. I was given a loaner vehicle and it did not perform this way and so I am doubtful but have also heard may others complain of the same issue.

I purchased a new 2025 Hyundai Palisade SEL from Bud Clary Hyundai Auburn on July 2, 2026. Prior to purchase, the dealership acknowledged that the vehicle had open safety recalls and stated that customers could not take delivery until the recalls were addressed. I later relied on dealership representations that the recalls were being fixed and completed the purchase. After delivery, Hyundai Customer Care and the dealership's service department both confirmed that the recalls remain open on the vehicle. Hyundai has since confirmed in writing that the recalls have been open for an extended period of time. The open recalls include NHTSA recalls 25V607000 and 26V034000. I am submitting this complaint because I believe NHTSA should be aware that a new vehicle may have been delivered to a customer while these safety recalls remained open.

1 death reported in complaints filed with NHTSA.

Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.

Recall repairs are free for as long as the recall stands. Check whether a specific car still has open work at NHTSA's VIN lookup.
