2023 Hyundai Palisade complaints

This is a known issue happening to Palisades and Hyundai isn’t acknowledging the issue. A braking issue has been going on for a while but hadn’t become a safety concern for me until this month. While braking but moving under 10mph, even less, the ABS system will engage without warning when driving over bumps or somewhat uneven road surface. This includes speed bumps. This has happened to me multiple times but never caused me to be in harms way until this month. I was braking for a stop light on a road with numerous small potholes. As I was slowing to stop, the ABS issue occurred. I braked as hard as I could but continued to get the push back/the automatic pumping action of the ABS system and continued moving forward. The car was shaking as well. I continued pushing the brake/attempting to get the brake to engage the entire time, and my car finally stopped, mere inches away from rear ending the car stopped in front of me. I was slowing at a safe distance and would have stopped at more than a safe enough distance away if my car had let me stop. Now I’m deathly afraid of hitting a bump or some sort of uneven road when I need to stop and my car not stopping and hitting someone else, something else, or losing further control of the vehicle. No lights came on or any noises made to indicate a system was activated. My car also didn’t warn me of a possible collision and didn’t stop on its own, as it’s capable of doing. My seatbelt (driver) repeatedly and randomly opens. This has occurred on multiple occasions and with different drivers, and occurs even when the seatbelt is entirely buckled/clicked in.

The seatbelts will come unlatched after they have been buckled without notice. It happens to the drivers seatbelt as well as the passenger seatbelt and the seatbelts in the second row. It has been happening for over a year and has happened several times.

Front driver and passenger as well as second row driver and passenger seat belts have spontaneously unbuckled while we are driving- several times. No one was injured but it puts myself and my family at a huge safety risk. We have almost stopped driving it because we fear the belts will not hold up should an accident of some sort happen. There were no warnings before it happened any time. The second row seatbelt warning light did come on after seat belts unbuckled. This has been going on since November 2024.

On Friday, February 14. 2025 at approximately 9:05 am I was leaving a parking lot to make a right hand turn on to a busy three lane road. Since this issue with the brakes has occurred three times previously I make it a point to drive no more than 10 mph in parking lots. The pavement was dry, then there was a 3 foot patch of thin ice, then the pavement was dry to the stop sign at the road. I pressed the brake pedal well in advance of the patch of ice and once the tires contacted the ice, the brake pedal pulsated harshly causing my vehicle to shake. This situation caused me to be unable to stop at the sign and I almost got broadsided. This is the third complaint I’ve filed regarding this matter. This is the fourth occurrence of the brakes acting in an abnormal manner (since June 2024) and whatever is occurring is terrifying. The dealership claimed it couldn’t replicate the issue and no warming sounds or lights appeared on my dashboard. I fear for my life, my spouse and children’s lives, as well as pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists. Someone is going to get seriously injured or potentially killed because of this issue, therefore, I have to petition the agency to look into this matter in depth and hopefully open an investigation.

The buckle on the seatbelts in both the passenger side and behind the passenger side in the 2nd row doesn't latch. Sometimes it takes 4/5 times to click the seatbelt in before it latches. It also will randomly unlatch. VERY unsafe to be always using seatbelts, only to have them not be trusted due to un latching. It happens multiple times a week, and has been going on since Summer 2024.

Vibrations on the rear side started happening last October 2024. Seats were shaking while driving. In addition to the rough ride, Clunk and rattling are heard while going over small bumps. Took it to dealer Feb 10, 2025, and tech found rear shock mounts are bad. The write up also said they replaced the shocks. It was all under warranty. Vehicle is only 13K miles, and suspect/concerned that the replacement may not last long too. Please investigate for possible recall.

The front seat belt has unbuckled on it’s own at multiple occasions, the system does alert of the unbuckling but it is a safety hazard if we get into a car accident. It happens randomly without any warning. We did not get it inspected yet

ABS system is engaging on gravel road when coming to a stop at 20-25mph. Brakes don’t work and vehicle starts shaking. Hyundai dealership is saying there are no issues but this has happened periodically 4-5 times.

Passenger side wiper stopped working after being stuck by ice/snow. Won’t work unless assisted

My Ongoing Car Leak Issue Ongoing issues in my vehicle’s moon roof. •Late September 2024: I first noticed water leaks in the front and rear of the moon roof. •[XXX]: Took to Wilson County Hyundai. They claimed to find no leaks. •[XXX]: The leak was evident again. I took it back; they acknowledged a factory defect in a drain tube and claimed to have repaired it. •[XXX]: I took it to a different dealership “Hickory Hollow Hyundai”, They were unable to replicate the leak. They suggested I record a video of it during the next rain event. So I did on [XXX]. See: [XXX] •December 11th: Frustrated with the lack of progress, I filed a formal complaint with Hyundai Customer Service, receiving case number #[XXX]. Hickory Hollow Hyundai then then told me to bring the car back in for repairs. As of Jan 16th: •Hyundai of Hickory Hollow said it was fixed and allowed me to come pick up the vehicle. They also said they had tested it thoroughly and there is no longer a leak. I brought the vehicle home and waited for the next rain so I could see for myself. As of January 27: •It rained less than .25 inches last night, but when I drove the vehicle this morning it leaked in both the front and rear. The first time this happened I was at a light waiting for it to turn green. My car went into a shutdown mode and gave me a message of " Auto Stop is Off. Shift to P or N Start Engine Manually". I tried repeatedly to restart the car after putting it into park, but it wouldn't respond. Finally, after 5 minutes of sitting blocking traffic, the engine started, and I drove away. This has now been happening off and on for 3 days. I cannot be stranded in a 50 mile an hour zone blocking traffic. It's an accident waiting to happen. After doing some research online I discovered this has been happening to Hyundai vehicles of different models for over 8 years! Why has Hyundai not recalled this? I think it's a manipulation to force you into one of their shops. I contacted several Hyundai dealerships to speak with someone who knows of this issue. One service manager told me it sounds like it needs a computer update. I ask the cost, and he said $260 and that does not guarantee it will fix the problem.

In Snow Mode, I was at a complete stop and then pushed on the gas pedal to go, the car did not accelerate. I pumped the pedal, still nothing. The car moved slowly like it was in neutral, but would not accelerate. I was trying to turn left at an intersection, it was very scary. I could have gotten rear ended or T-boned. The car finally moved when I changed the driving mode to Smart Mode. The exact scenario has happened several times to me and my husband when driving in snow mode. It happens from a full stop.

Repeated issues of rear self leveling shocks/suspension noise

11/16/2024: I was at a complete stop at a stoplight waiting for it turn green so I could turn left. When the light turned green, I pressed on the accelerator and made it about half way through the intersection when I noticed that the car had stopped accelerating but could hear and see the RMPs going up. I looked down to see if I had accidentally put it into neutral, but the DRIVE light button was still lit up. Luckily, I was close to my destination and was able to roll into the parking lot without getting trapped by traffic. I turned my car off and when I came back to it, it started and everything seem normal. 12/20/24: I drove to my office to pick up packages to mail. Then I was going to run a few errands with my mother-in-law before my 10:15 am appointment for an oil change at my Hyundai dealer. As we were turning left out of my office across 2 lanes of traffic, my car did the same thing it had done in November. This time, I had traffic approaching me from both directions. My car had enough inertia to finish the turn, but it would not respond to the accelerator. Both my mother-in-law and I were trying to figure out what was going on because she could feel it and noticed the RPMs going up without any acceleration. We intentionally looked at the "drive" button to make sure neither of us had somehow knocked into neutral. The cars coming up from behind ended up passing me on the right. AFTER REMOVING snow from my windshield, the left (driver's) side wiper is not moving. I'm trying to make an appointment with Key Hyundai of Milford, CT - the dealer does not have an appointment until February. This is a real safety issue.

Second row seat belts come unlatched while driving. This has happened multiple times. 2 times this week, once for each seat.

[XXX] at [XXX] (Palisade was in SMART mode). I made a U-Turn and coming out of the turn I stepped in the gas and nothing happened; however, the engine was racing and held steady at 3,000 RPMs. The vehicle did NOT respond after multiple attempts at stepping on the gas pedal or simply stepping off the gas pedal - the engine/transmission was racing loud at 3,000 RPMs for about 7-10 seconds until the vehicle corrected itself. This is obviously a safety issue since I had no ability to accelerate and could have been rear-ended. I went to AutoZone and ran OBD diagnostics and nothing showed up. I then made appt at Dealership with the description above and they recorded the incident as "a hesitation issue", then said it was due to the Auto-Start being on! WHAT!? I was not happy and made them read the description AGAIN and now writing this NHTSA safety issue. I feel like they purposely mis-recorded the issue and tried to send me on my way. The driver seatbelt and the middle drivers side seatbelt will unlatch randomly while we are driving down the road.

Recent snow in North East - removing snow and clearing windshield AFTER REMOVING snow from my windshield, the left (driver's) side wiper is not moving. Called Key Hyundai of Milford, CT - the dealer does not have an appointment until February. This is a real safety issue.

The seat belt for the second-row passenger seat on the driver side frequently comes unbuckled. This sometimes happens within minutes of buckling it and sometimes over 20 minutes later. My daughter is in a booster seat, and this happens regardless of whether I buckle her in or she buckles herself in. Even when I buckle her in and then pull hard on the belt to check that it is fully buckled, the seat belt still sometimes comes unlatched. The driver seat belt has also come unlatched several times when I am driving, also within minutes or long after I have buckled myself in. Yes, this is available for inspection upon request. My safety and my children's safety is obviously at risk if we cannot trust our seat belts to remain latched. The problem has not yet been inspected, reproduced, or confirmed by any third parties. There are no warning signals prior the belts unbuckling; the "seat belt unbuckled" alarm in the car begins to sound once the belts unbuckle themselves.

The contact owns a 2023 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated while driving on the highway at 65 MPH, the contact heard a sound like a shotgun blast. The contact opened the sunroof shade and saw that the sunroof glass had shattered. The contact started closing the shade and the center glass started collapsing inside the vehicle. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be inspected, and the contact was informed that the impact from a rock had caused the sunroof glass to shatter. The contact decided to take the vehicle to another dealer. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed by the second dealer that a claim would be submitted for the failure and the failure would be escalated. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,296.

Rear passenger seat belt has repeatedly unlatched itself while car is in motion. Occurs without anyone pushing the release button. Has happened multiple times.

While driving to work, the seatbelt suddenly unlatched midway through the drive without any pressing of the release button, and nothing close to it that could have pressed on it. This happened while moving (not stopped at a light). The cars seatbelt warning system started beeping to alert that the driver was not buckled.

After about 10000 miles, started to notice a thumping sound then it got progressively worse. The ride started to get rougher and thumps all the time. Dealer verified rear shocks bad and ordered new set. Now at 14000 miles and shocks still on back order. Was told that this is happening all the time and that the replacement shocks are the same as what came on the vehicle. This does not solve the problem.Soon handling will suffer.

ABS shakes when crossing over different terrains. Car does not stop as fast as it should. I am afraid for the safety of my family and other drivers on the road if I can't stop. I have brought the car to the dealer several times since I bought it new and they say they can't recreate it. The last time, they recommended changing my brakes. I brought it to a private mechanic and they said it's not the brakes, it's the ABS. Then I come to find out that many people have the same problem and some have had accidents as a result of not being able to stop. There are 2 class action lawsuits calling for a recall. Please make Hyundai fix this issue before there are deaths on their hands.

The contact owns a 2023 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated that the front passenger’s side seat belt unintendedly unlatched with an occupant seated in the seat. The contact stated that the alarm sounded as if the seat belt was not being used while the seat was occupied. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 44,000.

Component/System: Windshield. Description of the Issue: My 2023 Hyundai Palisade’s windshield developed a small crack, which has progressively spread into a longer line over time. The crack appeared without any significant external impact, raising concerns about the overall quality and durability of the windshield. Safety Risk: The growing crack reduces visibility and compromises the structural integrity of the windshield, potentially putting my safety and the safety of other drivers at risk. Reported/Confirmed by Dealer: I reported the issue to my Hyundai dealership, but they stated that there is no recall or warranty coverage for this problem. Inspection Status: The dealership acknowledged the issue but did not provide any solutions, leaving me to seek independent repair options. I have not yet involved an independent service center, insurance, or other third parties for inspection. Symptoms Prior to Failure: There were no warning signs or indicators before the crack appeared. It developed suddenly and unexpectedly, despite regular vehicle use under normal conditions. Additional Information: Upon researching online, I discovered numerous complaints from other Hyundai Palisade owners regarding the poor quality of the windshield. This pattern suggests a potential manufacturing defect that Hyundai has not yet addressed.

Rear passenger seat belt has unbuckled / unlatched itself multiple times during driving. Unbuckles with passenger in seat.

When slowing down using the break at low speeds over a bumpy terrain (gate track or drainage inlet) front of car shakes violently and vehicle does not slow down as fast as it seems like it should.

As I was driving my car to work on 11/8/24 my pallisades brakes failed to work. As i was approaching a red light after stopping at a stop sign, It started to vibrate, like trying to grab traction, it did not slow down and continue the same speed until I almost hit a car at the light. What stopped the vehicle was the emergency sensor that started beeping as the car sensed it was getting close to the vehicle at the light stopped. In the last second the car stopped with the emergency brakes an inch away from a car accident. I called Hyundai and brought the car to the dealership where they kept it overnight and until the next day in the afternoon. I was told that this was a known issue to Hyundai and they have had several people complain of this same problem. Unfortunately they said there is nothing they could do and I would have to wait until Hyundai the manufacturer decides what to be done. They also called Hyundai corporate and filed a complain on my cars behalf. Now I am stuck with a car I am afraid to drive.

Was driving vehicle felt a shutter and instrumentation led panel shut off. Radio still works as well as engine

The issue has been observed but not definitively confirmed or resolved by the Hyundai dealership, which suggested recalibration of the front sensor without assurance of a solution. The vehicle was inspected by a Hyundai dealership but has not been evaluated by other entities like the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. The issue occurred suddenly and unpredictably on various occasions. My experience is not an isolated case; I have found numerous reports from other Hyundai Palisade owners who have encountered similar issues, with no definitive solution provided. I urge NHTSA to investigate this issue thoroughly and instruct Hyundai to offer necessary repairs at no cost, given the potential risk to drivers, passengers, and others on the roads.

I received a call but could not make out the name. I was highly disappointed as my car has been with McDonald Hyundai for a week with no resolution and his call was to tell me what they will not do. He could not tell me one Hyundai would do to fix my car. We are extremely frustrated for the below: It has been 1 week and I don't have a resolution I have spent hours away from work trying to solve your problem I bought a Hyundai because we take great care of our cars and drive them forever. We currently own: 2015 Infiniti QX60 - 232,000 miles 2011 BMW 535 - 123,000 miles 2016 Toyota 4Runner - 132,000 This Hyundai replaced a 2013 Ford Explores at 220,000 I bought this for reliability and serviceability, warranty - but the car is not reliable, cannot be serviced and you state can't do under warranty. the car is 14 months old and was bought new The Service Director Kevin at McDonald said he can never guarantee he can fix the issue and said he will never know of unknow issues. Loud clanking/banging/creaking noise coming from rear of vehicle. Both rear shock absorbers replaced and strut insulators replaced at 4988 miles! Back at 37700 for the same issue. I was told by the service tech that the strut mounts needed to be replaced. This seems to be a going problem with Hyundai! Please look into it

Dear Sir, My car has brake acceleration several times.

I was approaching a stop sign, slowing down to around ~20 mph, then gently applied the brakes. All of a sudden, the car stared to lurch forward and the steering wheel shuddered violently as the ABS braking appeared to kick in. As the brakes were applied, the vehicle kept bouncing forward in spurts rather than stopping and it took almost twice as long to stop than it should have. There was a vehicle in front of me and my vehicle was a foot from rear-ending that car despite me slowing in advance and attempting to brake gently. The collision warning system kicked in and I suspect that the vehicle stopped itself, even though I was firmly holding the brake pedal down. My wife experienced te identical situation a week later, so this is becoming very concerning. A quick search on the internet has revealed that many other 2023 & 2024 model year have experienced the same issues, and apparently Hyundai USA is aware of the issue, but do not have a solution to fix it yet.

When driving the car normally suddenly there was an extremely loud sound above us. After pulling off the road and inspecting the vehicle we saw that the front sunroof had shattered. Fortunately the bottom cover had been closed else the glass would have fallen on the driver and passengers and very well could have caused an accident and/or injuries. The remaining glass was bowed upwards and there wasn't any foreign objects inside the roof. At the time of the incident there were no other vehicles around us nor were we under any trees or highway structure. We brought the car to the dealer who claimed that something must have impacted the sunroof however that is not the case. The sunroof glass spontaneously just shattered without any warning. There had been no cracks or chips in the sunroof glass at the time.

Driving on a gravel road (with small pot holes and bumps) down a slight hill caused my brake pedal to shudder making it impossible to slow to a speed I felt comfortable with. I had to remove my foot from the brake pedal and step on it as hard as I could to slow down. This is a serious safety defect and the issue needs to be investigated especially since many consumers have submitted similar complaints.

When driving at low speed (<25mph) over uneven terrain, such as bumps in road or small potholes, and applying brakes, the Anti-lock braking system will engage and causing vibrations in the brake and steering column and the car will not slow down. Drivers side seatbelt will sporadically, unlatch on its own. No particular conditions seeming involved. Just buckled one moment, and then unbuckled on its own the next.

Vehicle would not slow when brakes were applied. Traveling under 20mph on dry, level, clear, straight surface. Brakes were applied and no response from vehicle. More pressure was applied, still no response. As vehicle approached another vehicle it issued the proximity crash warning and came to an abrupt stop just inches from a collision. It is uncertain whether the crash warning or the pressure on the brake pedal was ultimately responsible for stopping the vehicle.

Rear struts need to be replaced and vehicle only has 17,200 miles. Seems like a shoddy made vehicle with who knows what other structural problems. I do not trust this vehicle and feel afraid to drive it.

A severe safety concern with our 2023 Hyundai Palisade, which has been present since the day we received the vehicle. When braking on uneven roads, the brakes jitter and stutter. This issue does not seem to occur on flat surfaces; however, it is always at lower rate of speed when roads have bumps. On three separate occasions, I have experienced a complete loss of brakes, and my wife has faced the same issue at least five times. When this happens, standing on the brakes does not trigger any response—there are no warning alarms, and the brake system completely fails. The potential to hit another vehicle or pedestrian, or veer into oncoming traffic, is very high, and in fact, I’ve had to swerve into a curb (causing curb rash to the right passenger rim) to avoid a collision. Due to the severity of this problem, I no longer allow my wife to drive the vehicle. I have a appointment on 10/21 with McDonald Hyundai. I have noticed this since day 1 and regret that I did not act sooner! Upon conducting research, I discovered over 21 complaints on one website alone regarding the exact same issue. I am deeply concerned that the mechanics may not be familiar with this specific problem.

Sporadically, when in snow mode, the car refuses to accelerate at all. Moderate pressing of the gas pedal or completely flooring it, the car will not respond and accelerate. The only way to fix this is to change it out of snow mode. This does not happen 100% of the time when in snow mode. It is sporadic. This has happened multiple times to me and it always seems to occur when in the middle of making a turn, while accelerating, while in snow mode. The car will accelerate to about 25 or 30 mph and then all power is completely lost. The tachometer does not show any change and the gauge that shows acceleration power being sent to the individual wheels, at 0. This is extremely dangerous and has almost caused me to get in multiple accidents.

Driving with adaptive cruise control engaged in 45mph zone. Without intervention the cruise setting jumped to 90mph. I was able to press the pause bar to cancel it. Next I was able to re engage cruise normally without a repeat issue. There's been no outside inspection, or assessment. So far it's happened only once. The runaway speed was controllable. We're driving with extra care.

I was driving about 40mph on a sunny, dry day, and approached a red light. I depressed the brake, and rather than stopping, the brake vibrated and the car continued to coast an additional 2 car lengths. On a second occasion, about 2 months later, I was driving about 25mph on a sunny, dry day, and I came to an intersection. I applied the brake, and again, rather than stopping, the brake vibrated and the car coasted into the intersection. There was a car coming, so I had to honk the horn repeatedly to alert the other driver that my car was not stopping. I took the car to the dealership. They have been unable to reproduce the problem, so they insist that nothing has happened and they want me to take the car back.
