2020 Hyundai Palisade complaints

UNKNOWN The sunroof shattered as we were driving down the interstate. To our knowledge nothing hit the sunroof to make it shatter. We did not see any rocks or debris. This is a safety issue as if we wouldn’t have had the inside shade closed we would have been showered with glass while driving at highway speeds and could have been injured.

The seatbelts in the second passenger captains chairs will appear to be latched/locked in, and then when driving will unlatch. We have our daughters tug on them to assure proper locking and they will appear locked and still come unlatched frequently while we are driving. This problem has been going on and off since we owned the vehicle. It definitely puts the safety of our children at risk as they seatbelts clearly have a defect and I'm scared to think what would happen if this occurred during a car wreck. It often cannot be reproduced, which is why we haven't taken it to a dealer. There's no rhyme or reason as to when/why it occurs. It probably happens 3-4 times per month. In reading on-line forums with other owners of this vehicle, dealers are not willing to fix it due to its inconsistency. The seatbelts warning light does not always come on when this happens.

Noise and rough going over bumps in the rear

Driving along I94 then suddenly heared a popping sound when I checked the sunroof exploded/ shattered to pieces.

The rubber covering on the rear passenger side strut top insulator disintegrated twice. It was replaced in 2022 at 20,000 miles and now again in 2024 at 57,000. It was confirmed by the dealer and acknowledge that this is a known problem. The issue caused a loud knocking sound when I drove and vehicle instability. I was afraid to drive my vehicle until it was fixed. There were no messages, warnings or lamps that indicated what the issue was.

My 2020 Hyundai Palisade slipped into neutral while slowing down in traffic. Was able to quickly pull over, brake and put back into drive. Happened 3 more times while slowing down for turns on my way home. All happened under 15 mph and had a slight grinding sound when placed back into park, drive then accelerating. Plan to take it to the Hyundai dealership tomorrow, but scared to drive it!

On 4 occasions the vehicle completely turned off while I was driving down the avenue. It turned on all the lights on the front panel before turning off completely.

Due to a recall that Hyundai has not fully resolved, I am unable to use the OEM tow hitch that I paid for when I purchased my car because there is not an updated fuse for the trailer hitch. Hence, trailers won't have lights, making them illegal and unsafe. The Hyundai dealership "resolved" the recall by removing the fuse several months ago, but never replaced it. Furthermore, the dealership never told me that I was unable to use the tow hitch. I was only told that the recall was resolved.

1) Back end of the vehicle sways, bounces at any speed when going over slightest bump. Driving with failing shocks or struts has a direct impact on your ability to control vehicle. Research indicates KNOWN ISSUE with 2020-2021 Hyundai Palisades - TSB22-SS-001H issued for PART of the problem but no recall. Hyundai clearly knows about it but not issuing needed recall because it is a warranty item, hoping customers don't realize it until out of warranty. Mine still in warranty, 48K miles. Rear- self leveling shocks appear to be the issue along with upper insulator piece. See Forum: [XXX] ) Another KNOWN ISSUE with cracking windshields same model. Mine cracked [XXX] while parked under cover - no apparent cause, Hyundai wanted over 1K to replace - had to use insurance to replace it. Current mileage is 51,130. When slowing down to come to a stop;the engine shakes, vehicle stalls out, cuts off, and goes into park. No service or warnings lights where on the dash. I am able to re-start the engine after it stalls out. This has happened several times and now the engine is shaking and trying to idle down under normal driving conditions. There is also a tapping sound coming from the engine. Thankfully there was not much traffic the times the engine stalled, but this could have been a dangerous situation. If this would have happened during high traffic, a crash would have been inevitable. I went to my Hyundai dealership and service rep Chance (unsure of his last name), took vehicle for a test drive and he experienced above mentioned issues. The dealership was unable to give me a service appointment due to being very busy. No available appointments until May 13, 2024. I have viewed several Hyundai Palisade forums online where several people have had the same issue with the 2020-2021 Palisade from the engine having excessive oil consumption issues. If this is a known problem, Hyundai needs to make an effort to rectify it.

The rear self leveling shocks pop and rattle and ultimately fail. What used to be a comfortable ride is now a stiff bouncy response in the rear whenever traversing any but a smooth road. The bounce is so bad it affects the driver and at times the ability to maintain a straight course.

2020 Palisade with Automatic leveling shocks has failed with 37000 miles. As per Hyundai forum it appears that this is a regular occurrence and should be recalled due to premature seals leaking!

The engine of my 2020 Palisade has burned about 1.5 quarts of engine oil every 1k miles. I found this when checked the dipstick after 3k miles and barely see any oil on the dipstick. Even with the oil level far below the LOW level, the car doesn't have any light to warn me about it is being low on oil. This problem can lead me to blown the engine by not having any oil, also stranded on the highway.

My 2020 Hyundai Palisade was serviced 10/23/23 with Daytona Hyundai (mileage around 31000). It has been serviced regularly--sometimes before schedule since it is hard to get the car into the dealership for servicing because they are always booked out months in advance. Today, 2/23/23, my car (35, 873 miles) is at the same dealer service center to fix a rattle in the dashboard which started as I drove off the lot on 10/23/23 after the dealership said everything was fixed and they have informed me that there is no oil in the car. There were no warning lights, no indication that there was no oil in the car. The dealership is doing an oil change.

Engine oil filter housing started leaking copious amounts of oil in cold weather. Dealership advised that it is a known issue but not covered by warranty. I had to source the part myself and pay an independent mechanic to replace the housing. Creates both an environmental hazard as well as risk of engine oil starvation.

On February 2024, I took the SUV to Lynn's Hyundai for an issue with A front sensor or the braking system - The problem is when you're driving at times very often in the streets, the vehicle will automatically cause the brake sensor to go off the dashboard with light up and the brakes will engage causing the vehicle to jerk hard and or stop at times and I have a huge concern that this may cause a serious accident. I was told by Hyundai service department, that perhaps were driving to close to other vehicles to cause this, but it happened several times when there are no vehicles or objects present. Apparently they had no interest in resolving this matter, they claim that the system test showed no duplication of said issue, vehicle was taken on a road test and they found no issues, The recall were all fixed, and I was called to pick up vehicle. I drove a few and the braking started again, so I pulled over and started recording to see if happens again and I was able to catch some of this problem on video. This has caused my husband to lose control of the vehicle causing him to hit a cone on the road. Your immediate help with this matter would be greatly appreciate.

Transmission issues and will probably need to have it replaced.

Self leveling shocks in the rear of the vehicle are failing (leaking, locking up) very early in their life span. Significant adverse effects to ride and handling.

Trunk strut/ spring plastic broke off making trunk not being able to close properly. Had to manually close trunk due to issue and eventually spring completely broke off and unable to close trunk. Safety hazard because trunk slams without having strut spring which could cause serious damage/injury to person/children if closed on. Read online that issue was happening. Hyundai said no warranty or defect. However have had multiple dealerships say that they have replaced this issue on Palisades.

I am bringing my Palisade in to the Hyundai dealership after waiting 1.5 months for an appointment. During that time my 2020, with less than 24,000 miles on it, has consumed at least a quart of oil every 300 miles and continues to spike rev at 2500 rpms. There has been NO warning lights, low oil lights, NOTHING. My OTHER Hyundai (2017 Santa Fe Sport) which was purchased just 3 weeks after the Palisade...With NO warning, lost complete power while driving 75mph on a Hwy 80 miles from home. When towed to the Auto shop (with a $675 price to tow) we were told it was completely out of oil! No lights, no warning. They found a gasket leaking and replaced it and sent it home the next day after filling the oil. Two days later, driving down the Hwy, we feel a quick metal screech, engine starts knocking and car loses complete power. Unable to accelerate or drive, but we were able to pull over right before entering a bridge. It would have been tragic if this happened 2 minutes later when we were on the bridge. Mechanic proceeds to inform us of all the complaints and issues with Hyundai's engine and oil consumption. After further research we have come across hundreds of complaints and forums talking about this EXACT issue. At what point will Hyundai make this a priority...do people have to go sailing off of bridges?? This is NOT something that can be fixed through user participation NOR is it fixed by replacing the engine...which is now what they have to do with the Santa Fe. All the comme

[XXX] - I was turning left from a stop and my steering wheel abruptly stopped (wouldn't turn) and made a very loud noise. It released when I tried again. Didn't happen again for a couple weeks. This went on and on (seldom reoccurring). then it happened like 3 times in two days and I got concerned. November 2023 - I called the tire place because I had just had tire replaced right before this started. The mechanic was able to recreate it and told me it was an electric rack and pinion malfunction and part is about $1,600 and labor about $450. I told him I would call Hyundai since it should be under warranty. Hyundai told me to bring it in. I brought it in on [XXX]. They said they couldn't recreate it and had me pick it up. [XXX] - I drove to San Diego for work. Noise still happening more common now and steering stops. Now having other issues too (with malfunction of emergency braking system - reported separately). [XXX] - Took car back to Hyundai. They said they can't recreate either issue and sent me home with no fix again. [XXX] - Found the exact same issue reported on the Hyundai Forum online. It stated exactly how to recreate (said it occurs when turning left when the eco mode has turned your car off and it starts up again when taking foot off gas and turning left concurrently). I called JJ (manager at Hyundai) back. I emailed him the forum emails and told him that I was able to recreate with this. He told me to bring it back in [XXX] - Dropped car off at Hyundai again. Got

[XXX] - Driving from San Diego to Ventura County (home), my dash flashed something to the effect of "Emergency Braking System Malfunction" as my brakes were engaged while driving 65-70 miles an hour (no vehicles close in front of me or on either side). This was VERY scary and could have caused an accident if there had been vehicles closer. Usually when this system j=kicks in you get a Collision alert alarm, then braking initiates. There was no collision alert either. [XXX] - Took vehicle in and Hyundai said they could not recreate and had me take vehicle home [XXX] - Same thing happened on my way home from camping (emergency braking malfunction and brakes engaged while no vehicles around and nothing in front of me). This time the warning light (Triangle with "!" in middle and a number 1 lit up on dash and stayed on until I turned car off (I have a photo). [XXX] - Found this issue reported by multiple people on Hyundai online forum (emailed to manager at Alexander Hyundai). [XXX] - Took vehicle back in. Manager said he would check cameras as he believes this has happened before and they had to replace cameras. [XXX] - Dealership called and said can't recreate and want me to pick up car. Car stored in garage. Upon starting the vehicle instrument gauges (speedometer, tachometer, fuel, etc...) remained in off position. Needles would slightly flutter. Car is drivable, but gauges all read essentially zero with needles fluttering. digital speed reporting was also registering 0MPH when driving. Digital fuel range reports correctly while fuel gauge needle registered E. Turned car off an on several times with no effect. Left car for ~20 minutes and tried again and at this point the gauges worked as intended. This happened once before ~3 months ago, but resolved quickly after 5 minutes.

Hyundai palisade sel 2020 frequently stops the speedometer ,rpm meter,fuel gauge ,lane departure. This may be due to defection instrument cluster,a recall should be immediately made as it might cause accident as speed of a vehicle cannot be knowing and also the lane departure is never turned on when this happen ,also driver won’t know how much is the fuel remaining . Both digital and analog speedometer also the tachometer shows 0mph even through the car is being driven , also the fuel gauge shows Empty even though fuel is full.

The engine is burning oil. I've had it inspected by Huyndai however they stated it would be 18+ months before getting it fixed. At this point it's burning 1qt oil every 3 weeks. I work from home, and drive my daughter to school a few times a week so not warranting that much oil in 3 weeks. I get oil changes every 4000 miles as recommended. My car will all of the sudden sputter, check engine light will go on, it will lurch forward which is a safety hazard to not only those in the car but those behind me in traffic. It has been inspected and reproduced by an independent service and a Hyundai dealer. Looking at the carfax, this has been an ongoing issue with this vehicle judging by the revious owners vehicle maintenance records.

Started my palisade and put the car in reverse. After 1 or 2 seconds, my car went to neutral. Error showed on my cluster “Shifter system malfunction! Service immediately”. I tried multiple times to put my car in park, drive or reverse without luck. After about 2 minutes the cluster said it couldn’t put the car in park and it automatically set the emergency brake. I had to shut the car off with it in neutral. I was able to restart the car and it did go into gear.

Rear shock absorbers are not functioning properly after 70,000 miles. I have had no success after no less than 10 attempts to purchase replacements from dealers and online Hyundai parts suppliers. Hyundai is aware of the defective shock absorber issue but has not corrected the replacement issue.

Problems started about 1.5yrs ago - car would make horrible noises from the engine, knocking sounds, lost some electric/AV systems. Brought to local dealership, had a bunch of codes; dealer said issue with t-stat sensor. No issues for another 3k miles, knocking sounds again. Mentioned to service advisor during oil change, couldn't recreate. Same problem every 3k miles, dealer/service repeatedly couldn't recreate issue/sound. Check engine light comes on, dealer said issue with EZ-Pass interfering with computer, need to pay $150 to reset computer and move EZ-Pass. Continue to take car for oil changes at dealerhip every 3k miles. In May 2023, dealer/service used 0w20 oil instead of 5w30 - apparently dealer/service noticed no oil in car, but didn't tell us, thought different oil weight would help "stretch" oil to next oil change interval (it didn't - burned through all 6.9qts before the end of 3k miles). End of Sept 2023, car sounds horrible again, losing auto stop/start feature, knocking. Husband found YouTube video of similar issues for same car - checked oil dipstick, bone dry. We added 5qts of oil, called Hyundai Corp and dealership, setup for oil change and to start consumption test. Dealer/service overfilled oil (charged for 8qts, car take 6.9, usual charge for 7qts, suddenly charged 8qts?) 1st 1000miles, dealer notes oil 1.5qts low, 2nd 1000 notes 1.4qts low. The car started very slightly making a clunking noise and it progressively got worse. We've taken it for every scheduled maintenance and didn't know anything was wrong. We asked for it to be specifically checked at our recent oil change and were told it is a unfortunate COMMON issue that HYUNDAI IS AWARE of BUT the warranty ended on that about 6 months ago - something that should've been addressed and resolved, they waited until out of warranty and didn't do anything and now the fix is $1700 (rear struts need to be replaced) car jumps and it will get even worse. Also the wipers turn on when there is no rain but don't turn on when it rains the sensors are messed up

Have been having transmission shift problems. Whether I am accelerating, slowing down, or coasting, it jerks like it doesn’t know what gear to go in.

My wife and I Were driving then all of sudden the engine light would come on and the car would hesitate and go then at anoqtpher time it stopped on my wife we travel often back and forth to the veterans hospital for treatment and we don’t feel safe any longer. The car suddenly stalls during driving. It has been root-caused to engine oil consumption. I used my car for only 3K miles after my previous service (normal recommended oil change is 7.5K miles) before I saw the same stall issues and all kind of weird check lights going off. I had to top off my car with an additional 3.5 quarts of oil to be able to drive again.

The contact owns a 2020 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated while driving approximately 75 MPH, the contact heard an explosion above her head. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over and looked for a tire blowout or damage from road debris. The contact stated that she looked at the sunroof and noticed a hole the size of a basketball in the center of the sunroof. The contact stated that the sunroof was almost completely shattered. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the sunroof was shattered by road debris and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 43,731.

THE LIFTGATE STRUTS CAN COME APART AT ANYTIME. WE HAD THE RIGHT SIDE COME APART LAST YEAR. HYUNDAI REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. TODAY THE LEFT ONE HAS FAILED. THE STRUTS HAVE POWERFUL SPRINGS INSIDE AND I THINK SOMEONE COULD GET HURT.

So there I was, stopped at a red light, waiting for traffic to clear and about to turn right. Traffic clears. I step on the gas. Nothing. I look at my dash and there are no signs of life. No warning lights, no bells or dings. The vehicle is just dead. I’m pushing the start button, pushing gears, tried to turn on my hazard lights. Nothing. As expected, the symphony of horns from vehicles behind me started. So I pull the lever from inside to pop the hood, open my door, and exit the vehicle. I get the hood up and first thing I go for is the battery. I reach for the battery cable and it’s loose. Twist it a bit and viola! Car starts up! But then I realize the car is rolling backwards! Ahh! So I run and jump into the moving car and put my foot on the brake and stop it. There were two saving graces here: 1. The road I was stopped on was mostly flat. 2. When I exited the vehicle I left the door open. Nobody was hurt. The vehicle didn’t hit anything. But had there been in incline on the road, I may not have been able to catch up with the vehicle and stop it. And had I closed the door, it probably would have been locked when it restarted and I would not have been able to get in. IF THE BATTERY IS DEAD (or in my case, a battery cable comes loose) THERE IS NO WAY TO CHANGE GEARS! Should this happen again while I’m alone in the vehicle, I’d have to wait, a prisoner in my car, until some good citizen came along and ask them to open the hood and jiggle the battery cable. Vehicle front and rear suspension has unsafe shock/strut equipment, which causes lack of control while driving, audible noise within the passenger compartment, and rough handling.

The contact owns a 2020 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated while driving 30-35 MPH in a snowstorm, with his son in the front passenger's seat, another vehicle drove by the driver's side of the vehicle and sprayed a significant amount of snow on the vehicle, and the windshield wipers seized. The contact then lost visibility of the roadway and slowed down. The vehicle was rear-ended by another vehicle. Both the contact and his son sustained back injuries but did not received medical assistance. The contact was unsure whether the other driver had sustained an injury. A police report was filed. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to the residence. The vehicle was taken to an auto body repair shop, where it was repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that the windshield wipers seized on a second occasion, due to the presence of snow at the base of the windshield. The contact became aware of that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V627000 (Visibility), and the vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the windshield wiper arm was replaced under the recall; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the recall remedy did not fix the safety issue. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened; however, the case was later closed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 61,450. The VIN was unavailable.

Windshield developed a 30 in crack without hitting anything on the road. Other owners report a similar problem on a Facebook group.

In traffic car jerked and swerved, panel lit up with picture of a car and words Emergency Braking. This was the second time. An earlier incident was on interstate and car jerked causing driver to think the rear had been hit. In this case oil light was seen to go on or off.

WHEN USING THE STEERING WHEEL PADDLES TO MANUALLY SHIFT GEARS WHILE DRIVING ROADS IN HILLS, THE VEHICLE WILL LOSE POWER AND SLOW DOWN. HAVE TO PULL OVER AND SHUT OFF ENGINE. ON ENGINE RESTART, ENGINE POWER IS BACK AND PROBLEM IS RESOLVED.

The rear liftgate will not close more than half-way down whether using the remote, the dash-mounted switch, the rear inner button, or manually. Since the rear lights including the stop and turn lights) are mounted on this door, this seems like a safety issue. We've contacted every Hundai dealer in town and were told they might be able to get us in 3 weeks or so down the timeline. Googling this particular issue came up with one earlier similar failure that turned out to be a plastic part that broke and jammed the door.

In June we noticed the car would stutter at certain RPMs or certain speeds. We took the car in and it was diagnosed to "need oil". The car continued to have this issue upon return and we took the car back to the shop where it was diagnosed to be an engine issue. The danger in the car engine could have caused much more serious damage had we not diagnosed it properly with the dealership. After 44 days the car was returned with a remanufactured engine.

2020 Hyundai Palisade Limited rear and front shock towers and/or stabilizer links rattle and are not stable at low speeds, and probably at high speeds also but for traffic noise. Causing instability when navigating in traffic and under road conditions

The alternator failed at 65k miles. Lost headlights, steering, all ability to drive on the interstate with children in the car. Thankfully my husband was able to safely get us off of the road and out of traffic without incident. Driving at 70mph when the battery light flashed once, then all dash lights started flashing then car lost power. No warning other than what happened in just a few seconds. Alternator failed and deemed bad by parts stores.

The contact owns a 2020 Hyundai Palisade. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V633000 (Trailer Hitches) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that the tow hitch brake lights were inoperable. The dealer was made aware of the failure but confirmed that parts were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 51,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

The engine totally stop in the middle of the road stoping an entire lane. Vehicle just popped a engine light I immediately called Hyundai and said i feel the vehicle has a problem its not going to last 1 min later it immediately stop and was towed to hyundai the following day hyundai notified me the vehicle did not have any oil and has oil consumption problems. It still had more than 2000 miles left for maintenance so its impossible for a new vehicle to have this type of issue so early. Im still under the 5 year warranty. Since then the vehicle is not safe to travel more than a certain amount of miles because the same issue can happen and put in danger the life of my entire family. Hyundai stated i have to take the vehicle every 1000 miles to measure the oil. The vehicle feels like the engine is going to stop and since then it's so concerning that this is a known issue in these vehicle and hyundai does not want to do there end with the warranty on these vehicles and straining to do the right thing and just recall these vehicle who are a danger to so many familys who rely on them. How is it possible a 28000 mile of 1 only owner is having these issues. I had to get a rental that day for work and additionally at the end they charged also for that expense stating it was not a issue of parts but of oil so its not covered by the warranty.

Car began giving us an issue while driving several months ago : driving up hills at a speed of 20 mph or less, the vehicle begins to jerk and pulse. There is also a knocking sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. Much of this also happens in parking lots at speeds of less than 10 mph. Driving at a speeds of greater than 60 mph / highway the car will pulse as well. This does not change with driving modes: ECO, Comfort, Sport or SMART mode. The engine is the same throughout modes- jerking and hesitating. When driving from highway to get gas or stop the car will have trouble when pressing on the gas pedal after being stopped then trying to enter the highway. The car is slow to respond to the gas pedal and will not accelerate matching your foot on the pedal. After some time the car will jerk forward and will not slow down when you take your foot off the gas. One incident in the past week I was pulling out into a 3 lane road, the car just stopped for no reason. Gas pedal down.. NOT moving. I was sitting in 3 lanes of oncoming traffic. I have reported this to my Hyundai Dealership. They are unable to locate the problem because NO codes pop up. They are unable to duplicate my problem when test driving. My concern is safety with having 3 children in the car and it just STOPS / lurches forward at a fast rate of speed. This happens on a daily basis. Unknown as to component or system failed or malfunctioned.. Yes available for inspection upon request.
