On Approximately February 10, 2022 I hit a deer and sent my truck out for repair, I encountered a serious issue with my vehicle's engine, which was later diagnosed by Honda as a rod bearing failure which was not related to the accident which meant insurance wouldnt cover. This failure caused the rod bearing to wear and seize, resulting in significant damage to the engine and the presence of metal shavings in the oil pan. As a result, my vehicle's engine has been rendered inoperable and requires extensive repairs. To my dismay, I recently discovered that Honda has issued a recall for nearly 250,000 vehicles due to the same rod bearing issue. The recall states that the rod bearing in the engine may wear and seize, leading to engine damage and potential issues such as improper running or stalling while driving. However, to my surprise, my 2018 Honda Ridgeline is not included in this recall. Considering the identical nature of the problem I encountered and the fact that Honda has acknowledged the issue by issuing a recall, it is evident that my vehicle should have been included in this recall. This exclusion not only undermines my trust in Honda as a manufacturer but also raises concerns about the company's commitment to customer satisfaction and safety. I firmly believe that my 2018 Honda Ridgeline is a lemon, and the engine failure I experienced is a direct result of Honda's negligence in ensuring the quality and reliability of their vehicles. I have always been a loyal Honda c

Our 2018 Honda Ridgeline broke a connecting rod, that quickly punched through the engine block. My entire family was left stranded on the side of I-79, at night, in the mountains of West Virginia, in subfreezing temperatures, with no power or heat. It took an hour for a tow truck to reach us (we were in the middle of nowhere) and another hour to get it towed to the nearest Honda dealership. The only warning we had was a slight rattle for about 10 minutes, followed by a POW, immediate and complete loss of engine power, and all the dashboard lights came on simultaneously. The dealership (Urse Honda in Bridgeport WV) confirmed the hole in the side of the engine block, and let me take pictures of the broken rod cap. Ironically, the month before the catastrophic failure, on 11/9/2023 Honda internally released Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) [XXX] that speaks to "internal damage at the connecting rod bearings, possibly leading to engine failure." However I only found out about this TSB AFTER my engine blew up. Furthermore even though this TSB describes exactly the failure I experienced, it ONLY covers 2017 and 2019 Ridgelines, mysteriously skipping over my 2018 Ridgeline. Because of this (for now) Honda is refusing to cover damages to my engine, and also to repair other customers' 2018 Ridgelines before they too catastrophically fail. Even more curious the front 2/3rds of the Ridgelines and Pilots are the same, replacing only the third row Pilot seat with a truck bed in the Ridgel
The hood flops in the wind, like a 2 foot long piece of aluminum foil. It's because the glue holding the composite skin to the metal frame has come loose. I'm sure over time, the stress from the wind will cause the composite material to break completely from the hood. Honda dealer wanted Honda to repair it, but Honda will only pay 60%, leaving me with a 1100.00 bill. Not acceptable, since it's a manufacturing defect. I now have a brick and a tie down holding it in place, and you know that's really safe. Since we only drove it in town for the first 2 1/2 years (bought it new off the showroom floor) we didn't know it had a problem. Wasn't until we drove it on I-90 at 80mph, that it had a floppy in the wind problem, it just got worse from then on. Honda dealer in Scottsbluff NE was the place that told us it wasn't normal. That's when we tried to get HONDA to fix it.
My hood is subtly bouncing at speeds over 55mph. I see that many Pilots, Ridgelines, etc. had recalls about the hood latch. I searched to see if my car was on the recall list for that after experiencing the hood bouncing, but it was not; however, it is concerning. I have not had my truck inspected yet, as I just bought it. There are no lights, messages etc. Should I be concerned or take it in?
Drivers side mirror has slid down. Can't adjust mirror anymore. Something wrong with adhesive on back of mirror.
Rear view camera not working, exposed wires from lift gate operation. I can now see the exposed wires and some have been cut due to operation of lift gate over time.

I’m hearing impaired and cannot get in contact with Honda online. Recall KCK 22V-867 RVC. I already replaced the item 2 years ago and want Honda to reimburse me for the parts.
The Honda Ridgeline 2018 has an issue that it burns its transmission fluid really fast to the point that the Truck's transmission starts to judder. This causes the truck to have issues accelerating or changing gears. This happened to me in a 70 MPH highway, when the problem starts you see the RPM gauge fluctuating a lot and the Truck has issues accelerating. This problem was present on the 2017 version of the truck and Honda issued a service bulletin (https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2018/MC-10139548-9999.pdf) but this bulletin does not cover any other version of the truck when the same exact problem is still happening. I went to the dealership and they confirmed that the Transmission Judder was there. When you go online other owners of the truck are complaining about the same exact problem: Problem happening on a Honda Ridgeline 2019 - https://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/threads/2019-transmission-judder.233046/ Same problem on a Honda Ridgeline 2018 - https://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/threads/2018-honda-ridgeline-rtl-transmission-judder.228917/ Another owner with a Honda Ridgeline 2019 with the same problem - https://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/threads/transmission-shudder-any-solutions-yet.224260/ There are tons of other owners complaining about the same issue. I would like for Honda to fix this issue and refund me all the money the dealership charged me to fix this issue.
The backup camera has stopped working, at least the imaging part. This makes backing up riskier, especially in parking lots, driveways or where pedestrians may be behind me. I have not been to the dealership yet as it failed today but this seems a common complaint for Ridgeline owners online. I have not had others inspect this problem yet. There was no warning, yesterday worked fine, today it doesn't work. I took a picture of the broken wiring harness at the corner of the tailgate, looks same as what I found online. Truck is a 2018 model with between 70 and 80K miles.
The backup camera intermittently works. When put in reverse, sometimes I’ll have a black screen with grid lines, other times just a blank screen. Yes, it is available for inspection. I cannot see persons and property when backing up. I am afraid, in reverse, of running over persons shorter than the vehicle that only the backup camera would pick up. This has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service station. The vehicle has not been inspected by another entity. There has been no warning lights or messages from the vehicle about the issue. I purchased the vehicle in October 2022 and the issue started two weeks after purchase.
Rear safety camera does not work and can be inspected. Cannot see via camera when backing up. Has not yet been inspected by anyone but myself and no outside party has yet been contacted. There were no warning signs other than black screen when in reverse. Broken wires can be visibly seen at driver's side tailgate hinge point. Appears to be flawed design that does not allow for sharp bending of wires on repeated usage of tailgate.
The problem revolves around the rear-view camera failing through the normal use of the vehicle. The issue affects 2017-2018 Ridelines, a number of whose owners complain that the screen goes black when they try to reverse. The complaints suggest that the wiring harness going from the main body of the vehicle into the tailgate, where the camera is located, suffers severe damage caused by the normal opening and closing of the tailgate. In my case I've confirmed this is true. Backup cam suddenly stopped working. Inspected wiring to backup cam at back where tailgate is and confirmed wiring is severed.
The failed system is the Backup camera and the failure can be inspected. Our safety is compromised because we cannot see objects behind the vehicle before or during backing maneuvers. The damage has been reported and confirmed by the Honda dealer as well as an independent. There was no warning of the failure, one day it worked the next day it did not work.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled without warning. The power steering seized, and the contact had to coast to the side of the road. After pulling over, the vehicle was restarted but almost immediately stalled again. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were displayed. The vehicle had been towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the fuel pump had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V215000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, neither the VIN nor the model year was included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
Rear view camera failed - wiring harness drivers side in tailgate is damaged from normal use. Wires are frayed/cut.
Wire harness failed due to pinching in tailgate. This resulted in the rear view camera no longer functioning. Due to the camera failure, I can no longer see behind the vehicle when reversing. This has been inspected by the dealership. Although this is a common issue, they declined to repair it. Cost to repair would be $465 + labor.
After a recent Fuel Injector service last week, there is a strong smell of gasoline both in and out of my vehicle. Honda Service technicians report they cannot find the issue and there are no Codes reported upon diagnostic check. However the smell remains and fuel gage needle falls closer to E when the vehicle is parked a few days.
Backup camera quit working. Found broken wires in wiring harness, by tailgate hinge. Wire routing is unacceptable, causing this break.
The rear camera shows black when shifting into reverse. Upon checking it appears the wire harness that contains the wiring from the camera to the dash is cracked. P/N32109-T6Z-A00. Approximately 40 other vehicles in the 2017-2018 years have experienced the same problem.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Rear camera wire harness has failed. When vehicle is in reverse the screen displays a black image. Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Please see attached image. These wires are visible when the tailgate is open. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The rear camera adds tremendous safety information as I reverse the vehicle. In every situation this information is valuable; more so in a neighborhoods like the one I live in. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No. I will mention it during my next routine service. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, first signs were the camera would fail sporadically , now almost permanently. Sometimes after opening/closing the tailgate the camera will work until the tailgate is opened again.
Backup camera stopped working. Will sometimes work after the tailgate has been opened and closed. Wiring harness from the tailgate to the truck body is frayed and poorly designed for the fold down and swing feature of the tailgate. Poor sightlines on the truck make backing up using the mirrors challenging and stressful.
The back up camera worked for a few months and all of a sudden stopped. I drove it like that for a month or so hoping it would pop back on but it never did. The fuse wasn't blown and the backup lights worked so I assumed it was getting power. Looking online I saw the posts about the cut wires. Mine were not cut where it usually seemed to be by the swing gate hinge, but it was very pinched. After opening it up I discovered one of the wires had in fact been cut via the pinching. Respliced the wire and the camera came right back on.
Tailgate wiring harness is broken after warranty had just passed , which caused backup camera not to work
The backup camera does not work as the wiring harness snapped between the harness's exit from the body and into the tail gate. This is on the left side near the hinges for the tailgate. I reconnected broken wires and camera works again.
The rear view back up mirror stopped working it is intermittent. I believe the problem is a flaw where the wiring harness goes to the mirror near the hinge on the tailgate. Seems to be what was shown on some sites on the internet. spoke to dealer he said he never heard of the problem kinda blew me off. Hope this government agency can get Honda to fix the problem. Thank You [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
I have had 2 windshields crack in this vehicle. I had to have it replaced 2 years ago when a small rock cracked the entire bottom of the glass. The 2nd incident happened on July 2nd, 2022. A rock hit the windshield in the mirror area and caused a huge chip. I do not think this is normal. It sounded like a small explosion when it hit.
Backup camera failed at 65k miles. Upon researching issue, found that this is a common problem amongst Ridgeline owners, generally right after the warranty period is over. The indicated cause, according to the research, is broken wires in the wiring harness due to regular use of the tailgate. The Honda dealer confirmed this diagnosis and wanted $600+ to replace the wiring harness. After discussing with them and pointing out the common-ness of this problem, they agreed to cover the cost this one time, but stated that the wiring harness wouldn't be routed any differently, so probability of recurrence of the issue is high. Obviously, I was unable to use the backup camera during this issue, so this is a safety problem.
Wire harness for rear backup camera along the side of the tailgate is visibly damaged. Camera image is blacked out when in reverse.
Broken tailgate wire harness caused backup camera failure. Yes it is available for inspection. Dealer inspected it and confirmed the wiring harness had broken wires causing the backup camera from working. It has not been inspected by the manufacture. No warning light or lamps indicated this problem.
My 2018 Honda Ridgeline pickup has a backup camera which became nonfunctional in June 2022. Upon inspection the wiring harness at the back gate pivot point has broken as the gate has been opened over time, disabling the backup camera - the display is now black when the vehicle is in reverse. This has made it difficult to accurately back the vehicle up, and puts pedestrians, pets and other objects at risk as it is impossible to see directly behind the truck when backing. The dealer has confirmed this wiring harness failure, and has quoted me $2,000 to repair the wiring harness. The vehicle is scheduled for repair, but I would not expect this failure to occur this early in the vehicle's duty cycle.
A fire started in the engine compartment of the 2018 Honda Ridgeline. The vehicle was being driven while towing a lightweight trailer. The driver pulled over to allow vehicles to pass and check the trailer. The driver allowed the engine to idle. As the driver returned to the vehicle she smelled and saw smoke then saw flames appearing from under the hood near the windshield on the driver's side of the vehicle. Recall work was performed under NHTSA Recall 19V-053 10/09/2019.
Unknown: Fuel pump problem. Engine stalls and slow down to dangerous speed on highway speed limit. Dealer unable to get fuel pump to fix this problem. Claim back order is the problem. On going problem for 10 plus days. Service advisor said truck can be driven. Still waiting on fuel pump.
Broken wire in backup camera bundle due to improper design where the bundle exits the tailgate and enters the left rear fender area. Wire had been broken and poorly repaired prior to my purchase. The wire bundle needs a redesign to prevent flexure at the point of failure. Failure caused loss of backup camera . There have been many reports of failures at this specific point in the wire bundle Needs redesign and recall. Thank you.
Rear backup camera does not work. This is a known manufacturer defect in the wiring from opening the tailgate the wiring harness breaks there should be a safety recall on this They want $653.00 to replace the harness with the same harness which will just break again
The back up camera no longer functions due to the wiring harness cracking and breaking at the junction where the wires run from the tailgate into the left rear tail light area.
The backup camera on my 2018 Honda Ridgeline stopped working. I took it into the Honda dealership and they diagnosed it as a broken wiring harness. They will replace it for $833.45. I asked why Honda wasn't fixing this at no cost given the wiring harness should not break. The dealer indicated that they had not heard of this problem. After I returned home, I saw that there is a class action lawsuit.
The back up camera finally stopped working. For a few weeks it would work intermittently, usually the guide lines would be orientated upwards instead of to the rear of the image OR the guide lines would be there but there was no camera image. Now, there is simply a black screen. The wiring harness at the left front of the tailgate has broken. There are exposed wires and a broken plastic spiral wiring loom.
Back up camera stopped working.
The backup camera stopped working. I brought the vehicle to a Honda dealer and they said it was due to a broken tailgate wiring harness. The dealer said the wiring harness would need to be replaced. I asked the dealer why the harness broke and he said it was due to corrosion. The replacement part was ordered and the repair was made within two days. I asked for the damaged part when I picked the vehicle up. Upon inspection, there was no visible corrosion (especially since the outer shielding is made of plastic).
The backup camera has stopped functioning after working intermittently for a short period. The wiring harness was found to have severed wires at the tailgate interface.
The backup camera doesn't always work correctly. Looks like it's due to an issue in the wiring. The wiring harness that runs near the tail gate left hinge is damaged and bare wire is showing.
Several times now, the alarm of the vehicle has gone off in the middle of the night for no reason. The key access remotes does not respond to the commands properly after replacing them with new batteries. After several different combinations to set the alarm off, the vehicle is continuing to make electrical circuit noises, flashing the dashboard with potential risk of fire and damages to computer, plus creating the possibility of a heart attack to those nearby. The only solution to keep the alarm of is leaving one door unlocked. The vehicle reflected the Keyless start system problem light for many hours. However, the dealership "couldnt" replicate the issue and gave back the vehicle. The vehicle continues to malfunction & could cause an accident, fire while driving or theft, given known issues that Honda Corp doesn't want to recognize as manufactures' issues. There is a Technical Bulletin addressing 2016 & 2017 Honda Ridgelines (Service Bulletin 20-117), noting an extended warranty coverage & the requirement to replace different aspects. However, for 2018 to 2019 Honda Ridgelines, despite reporting the same issues as the 2016-2017 Ridegelines, the Technical Bulletin notes to check the alarm registry & complete replacement at the customer expense (Service Bulletin 21-055);no recalls or extended warraty. An investigation should be completed to ensure customers' safety
Back up camera wiring crimped and is no longer working
My 2018 Honda Ridgeline began to make a loud knocking noise from the lower motor. I bought this vehicle last June with 47k miles on it. The vehicle has prompted me twice to change the oil. Both times I changes the oil myself within two days of the car warning stating I had 15% life of the oil. At the same time as the indicator light lit I began to notice the knocking sound. I change the oil the very next morning only to find the noise getting louder. The car is at the dealer now and the dealer is fighting me tooth and nail not to cover the work. They made me financially responsible to tare down the motor and find the root cause of the engine failure. Im literally paying them to find whatever excuse they can to not cover the repairs. They are sending out an adjustor to assess the engine parts and take oil samples. At that point a report will be sent to Honda stating the findings. They are asking for my oil change receipts that I unfortunately do not have. I have used OEM filters and reset the on-board computer with each oil change. OfCourse Honda claims they cannot retrieve this information from the on-board computers that I find hard to believe. The vehicle has approximately 64k miles on it and has had a recall completed for a malfunctioning fuel pump that leaks fuel into the oil. Did the repair get done in time to prevent this issue? The issue ever truly get resolved. The warrantee is a Honda Certified warrantee that covers the vehicle for 100k or 7 years. Furthermore, Honda
Failure of backup camera wire harness at tail gate hinge area. 2018 Ridgeline at approx 26,000 miles, light duty use. Backup camera became intermittent, then failed. Dealership service said harness has failed, no kidding. Wire harness has sheared in area due to opening tailgate…….this is a two direction tailgate, drop down and swing out. Wire harness wires been sheared, cable protective jacket has been cut due to normal opening operation. As a engineer with many years of experience in medical device manufacturing; this is clearly a defect related to weak construction, poor harness routing and mis-assembly. Overall, a extremely poor design…….leading to premature failure…this should have not been allowed…..…this is a SAFETY ISSUE due to lack of backup camera……there is already a class action law suit in process in the state of California for this very issue. It needs to be fixed by the manufacturer………and all Ridgeline owners made whole, accordingly………
2018 Honda Ridgeline rear back up camera has stopped working 04/02/22. Seems to be a common issue. Clearly can see damage to wires from the tail gate.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
