The car had problems with automatic start/stop function. During this time the car had a transmission that failed. The automatic start/stop function was fixed by the dealership and the new transmission that was installed failed. The car is currently on its third transmission at 85,000 miles and this transmission is starting to give the car problems where the information system tells the driver there are transmission problems that are present randomly when driving. These are not currently repeatable enough for the dealership to see. The car had 3 transmissions under 88,000 miles, and is probably going to be on its fourth transmission soon. Also the honda information system does not work properly with the phone and only connects 70% of the time.
This vehicle keeps having a "Emissions System Problem" Then other times says "Transmission Temperature Too Hot" I bought and get this serviced at my local dealer. They don't know what the problem is and it goes away after I see them for a couple weeks but the problems come back. They say no problem. It's unnerving to drive a car with theses messages and I drive long distances.
Alarm spontaneously went off while in garage & several indicator lights lit up and repetitive clicking sounds heard. Honda dealership Johnson City, TN diagnosed problem as a faulty body control unit module. I was told I could drive the vehicle and afterward unhook the battery cable to keep the alarm from going off & draining the battery. I followed instructions but then it would not start and was then told the body control unit module is at fault. My understanding is that some features of safety are compromised with body control unit module malfunction so perhaps I should not have been given this advice?? When we first got vehicle, 2017 awd honda pilot w RES - the NAV system did not work. Supposedly they replaced it - still does not work. The RES quit approx 2019 - still not work. The contact owns a 2017 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle hesitated. The vehicle jerked and then lunged forward. The RPM decreased from 3,000 RPM to 0. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to another local dealer, Honda of Serramonte (485 Serramonte Blvd, Colma, CA 94014) who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer suggested trading the vehicle. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the vehicle was no longer covered under the warranty and provided no additional assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 44,000.
The drive side power seat will not raise above a certain height, and compromises a shorter drivers visibility and proper driving potion (someone under ~5'"6'). This is a know problem caused by a part failure and is documented in Honda Service Bulletin 18-034 (Clicking from the Driver's Power Seat While using the Height or Tilt). As a result of Service Bulletin 18-034, this voids the extended warranty that was purchased with the vehicle and Honda USA will not cover the repair as it is out of original warranty. This is a safety concern as stated above and the need to place a cushion under the drive to raise their height puts the seatbelt at an unsafe position. The cost of repair is excessive at $2,400 but regardless of cost this is a known problem and a safety concern for both driving and in a crash.
TRANSMISSION RANDOMLY MAKES A JUDDERING JERKING SOUND AND HESITATES WHILE DRIVING. HONDA HAS FLUSHED MY TRANSMISSION MANY TIMES UNDER SEVICE BULLETIN 17-014, 17-015 AND THE REPAIR IS SHORT LIVED. HONDA STOPS HONORING THE EXTENDED SERVICE BULLETIN AFTER 80K. THEY HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AT LEAST SINCE 2016 YET THE DON'T FIX OR ADDRESS THE ISSUE. THEY MERELY OFFER FREE TRANS FLUSHES TILL 80K MILES AND THEN YOUR ON YOUR OWN. MANY COMPLAINTS OF THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET YET HONDA DOES NOTHING MEANINGFUL TO FIX THE PROBLEM. Emission system problem , transmission system problem. Car frequently stops with these error messages and it stopped the acceleration during driving on a freeway. It could have caused a major accident if I had not pulled over safely.
When stopped at a stoplight in traffic, the auto stop/start feature failed to restart the engine after removing my foot from the brake to the gas. All lights on the dashboard were lit and there was an orange message on the dashboard saying I needed to push the brake to restart the engine. However, I needed to put my car in park, fully turn off the engine and then it took several attempts to restart the engine in the middle of traffic, causing a safety concern of a stranded vehicle in the middle of a busy highway. I attempted to push the brake to move the vehicle into neutral and try ti coast to the side of the road, however, I was not able to move my car out of park until the engine was fully restarted.
My Honda continues to display a transmission service problem warning. There’s nothing specifically wrong with the transmission and this is a reported problem across the Internet. I suspect there is an issue with the torque converter or other part that is causing this error in some cases, passengers have been stranded.
On March 18th, 2023 at 6:30 PM I parked my car and waited for the curbside pick up at a cafe with my 3 girls 6 (my niece) 7, (daughter), and 11 (daughter) years old. The car started blinking all the lights started accelerating by themselves and turned off immediately. while I tried to turn it on it never started instead it blinked and displayed many messages, including transmission system problem, emission system problem, etc. I thought the battery died and called my husband to jump-start the car and it took 30 minutes to get driving with all these scary movements. my kids were traumatized by the experience and I thought thank god they were safe and the problem is solved. After almost a week once again on March 27th at I'm driving the kids to Karate and driving back at 5:45 PM all of sudden it started blinking, shanking, grinding noise, loud noise, and many messages, transmission system problems, emission system problems, etc. "D" drive started blinking. smoke came and I was still on the road not sure what to do. I thought I will be hit by the other cars behind me. luckily I was almost close to our street and it made a loud noise and I parked the car. it still blinked and smoked heavily and I turned off and got out of the car. It was a very scary movement of my life. I have 2 kids and I drive them every day for their day-2 day school/activities. I cannot believe I bought a new car in 2017 trusting the brand and it is already failed, my family. The car has to be towed to the d
I have a 2017 Honda Pilot EX-L with a mileage of 41010 miles. I have completed all the recommended services in a timely manner by an authorized Honda Dealer. When I was driving the vehicle yesterday (3/25/2023) at a speed of around 65 mph, I got an error message saying "Transmission System Problem". There was no error code associated with it. There was no problem in the driving. But at the end of the drive, in the parking lot when I had to reverse, the backup camera will not turn on. After parking the vehicle and turning off the vehicle and restarting it, the error message went away. And then the backup camera also started to work fine. When I was driving back home, the error message came on again when the speed reached around 65 mph. I came home and searched about this error message and I came across a lot of complaints of the same nature for 2017 Honda Pilot owners. Please refer to the discussions on the following links as samples: https://is.gd/RB78A1 , https://is.gd/a84e9h . Since many owners are experiencing this, I am wondering if this is a manufacturing issue. Many owners are talking about the Dealerships asking them to replace Transmission which costs around $8000 or to replace Transmission torque converter which will cost $5000. As of now my vehicle drives fine but I got exactly the same message twice at the speed of about 65 mph. I am scared to take this vehicle on to highways since my vehicle is following exactly the same pattern as that of other owners of 2017 Hon
The autostop feature on the car fails to restart the engine. The car completely shuts down and all electrical is dead. This has happened multiple times over the course of many years. Often is takes multiple attempts to restart the vehicle while sitting in dangerous traffic situations (e.g. highway, nighttime with no lights). This is a significant safety issue. Honda has failed to fix the problem despite a new ignition switch and new battery. They don't seem to know how to fix it.
Emissions System Problem is an ongoing issue. I have used cataclean, only used premium gasoline, and had it reset multiple times. I feel there is an issue with acceleration from a stop.
Went out to garage and started noticing headlights and running board lights were on, so assumed another household member had opened door to put something in the car which is not common. After this started occurring more often, asked and no one fessed up so started paying closer attention and even opening garage door just to check. After that, started noticing clicking sounds under the hood. Googling, saw online that others had similar issues. One day went to start car to head out and the car was dead. Called dealer and they said I must have left the car in accessory mode, but I wasn't so sure. AAA jumped the car with much effort. Next morning, car would not start again. This time, I remembered I had one of those jumper boxes and was able to start it, maybe because it was just one day difference. I know I was careful to make sure I fully stepped on brake to not leave it in accessory mode like dealer had said I probably did prior. Drove it around to charge the battery and went to store. When I came out, my car alarm was going off. When I got home, I left car out to see if alarm would go off and sure enough it did. I had also noticed that dashboard lights would flicker Honda symbol. This time didn't lock car and the alarm did not go off. Googled some more and luckily found on piloteers a post about replacing the control module around the driver side dash and considered myself lucky that my alarm was only going off when locked as others were saying they had to disable battery bec
I took the car in at approximately 55,000 miles (under warranty) because I was could heard a noise coming from the transmission and the vehicle was not driving correctly. The dealer flushed the transmission and did a computer update. The DEALER paperwork stated "judder from torque converter clutch." 25K miles later (now out of warranty) I get a warning light on the dash that states " transmission problem". I take the car back to the same dealer and they tell me that the torque converter clutch is failing and it will take $4250 to fix the car. I told them it was failing 25K miles ago and you put 2 bandaid's on the car and not Im out of warranty. I did call Honda of North America and they did nothing for me.
This appears to be a known problem with the Honda Pilot with the car auto start/stop feature. The power/engine cuts on and off when trying to start back up. The dealer replaced the battery but after around 6 months it has started again. Before the battery replacement, we had the issue happen on the freeway while driving. So, it wasn't just after the autostop but it happens more prevalently then. It happened at least 2 to 3 times on the freeway. After reading that some vehicles don't start back up, I am concerned that if this cuts out on the freeway and doesn't start back up, it could cause an accident on the freeway at high speeds. I urge you to push Honda to recall the vehicle to fix this issue before someone get hurt. The dealer tech doesn't know what to do to fix the problem. And, doesn't appear to be the battery as we had the new one checked again just to be sure.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 MPH and decelerating, the fuel saving feature malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to hesitate and almost stall. The contact was able to drive the vehicle off the road to turn off and restart the vehicle. After restarting the vehicle, the transmission erroneously shifted to neutral and failed to drive. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 24,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while making a stop at a stop sign, the vehicle stalled with an unknown warning light illuminated. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle started operating normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed; however, the contact was unsure which fuse the dealer stated needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 20,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while making a stop, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The dealer was contacted, and the dealer confirmed being aware of the failure; however, there was no fix for the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 40,000.
Car has failed to restart numerous times after coming to a complete stop, typically at a traffic signal leaving me stranded in the middle of the road with cars whizzing by in adjoining lanes and cars behind me beeping. This creates a very great hazard. This has happened at least a dozen times. To restart the vehicle, I have to put the vehicle into park, put my foot on the brake, and press the start engine button. This issue started in 2019. Another issue is that periodically the dash display will rotate through every possible malfunction indicator. When this happens, each malfunction indicator light stays on the screen for a couple of seconds and moves onto the next one. When this is happening, the vehicle will not go any faster than 15-20 mph which I think is a safety mechanism to make sure the engine is not further damages if an actual issue is occurring. Fortunately, this has only happened on neighborhood streets where the speed limit is 35 mph so the sudden loss of power did not create an immediate hazard. This issue started in 2019. I took the vehicle to a Honda dealership regarding both these issues but they were unable to determine what caused these issues even after I showed them the video I took of the dash display rotating between all of the malfunction indicators. No police, insurance representatives, police or others have inspected the vehicle.
Vehicle's start/stop system continuously failing. Vehicle will "stop" or shut off at intersection as intended, but then fails to restart, leaving my family stranded in the middle of traffic. This obviously creates a very dangerous situation for my family. This has happened several times. When you try to restart the vehicle it acts as if it doesn't have the power to do so. Inspections of the vehicle at the dealer continuously show the battery is in the "green" or great working condition. Although they've said this, their only response to the issue so far is to replace the seemingly fine battery.
The vehicle will start fine from being parked but when the auto stop turns the engine off, the vehicle fails to start back up. This has happened a few times now in heavy traffic creating a problem with traffic flow, putting us in an unsafe situation. Each time this happened, the vehicle has needed jumped, creating additional issues with traffic and our safety. We have had the battery and alternator tested and both appear to be fine. Looks like this has happened to quite a few others, so I feel that it is important to bring light to the defect.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently drifted into another lane. The contact also stated that while driving, the vehicle stopped independently. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle failed accelerate as needed. The collision mitigation system, the ACC, and LKAS warning lights, the road mitigation warning light and the brake warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed and produced codes: by001c-swlka and u0104, indicating “A Loss of Communication with the Body Control Module) however, the contact was not provided a clear diagnostic result of what parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.

Fuel injection problem Vehicle less than 37000 miles on it
I took ny Honda Pilot in for a routine oil change. I have had issues with a squeaky sound coming from under the hood. The dealership said my transmission fluid had broken down, and they had to flush/replace it. It cost me over $350. Honda said it wasn’t covered under warranty as it is a maintenance issue. I only have a little over 57,000 miles on it. The squeaky sound persisted, so they replaced a belt. I had to take it back a week after, because yup sound is still there. It was in the garage for over 2 weeks and I just got it back yesterday. I’m not sure exactly what they did, only know they had to take the undercarriage off to get to it. I never received the paperwork as the case hasn’t been closed by the repairman yet. I have an appointment Thursday February 16th to go over wheel bearing issues now and am supposed to get the paperwork for this last repair then. Very frustrating.
Was stopped at a very busy intersection today (2/12) and the vehicle's auto start/stop turned the vehicle off. When the light turned green, I attempted to apply gas and the engine stalled out. Was unable to restart the car again after many retries. I was very concerned that another vehicle would hit me since we were at a very busy intersection. All the electronic warnings on the dash appeared to flicker on and off when trying to restart. Eventually had to have the vehicle towed to the Honda dealer since the vehicle could not be jump started or restart on it's own.
I been hearing a rattling noise from the engine area for a while. I took it to Honda dealership where I bought it and they test drive a few times. They said they don't hear the noise, but when the test drive with me know the suv they hear they noise numerous times but don't know where the noise coming from. It's all over the honda bulletin customer are complaining about the same noise nothing I'd getting done about it. I opened a case with American Honda and they did nothing sbout as well. Now my transmission system problem light came on at 49000 miles and I see alot of people complaining about that as well and Honda dealership is saying it's not Honda problem. The complaints is on Honda forum and Honda sites. I think Honda should be investigated for these problems.
Car turns off at stop after auto shutoff will not restart
The engine fails to restart on its own from a complete stop at a traffic light or road intersection with the Auto Start/Stop function engaged. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// This is an extremely dangerous vehicle malfunction and needs to be addressed as soon as possible before someone is killed. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// While driving on the freeway or highway, traffic comes to a complete stop, the engine idle feature stops the engine, and upon restart, the vehicle stalls. This leaves my wife and kids stalled, sometimes on the freeway for up to a minute until my wife can get the car restarted. During that minute, she's at risk of being hit by other motorists traveling at freeway speeds. ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// I brought our Honda Pilot to the dealership, and they could not diagnose and fix the issue. The Dealshp also claimed they were unaware of any issues with the Auto Start/Stop feature. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Scott Robinson Honda 20340 Hawthorne Blvd, Torrance, CA 90503 /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
The auto stop/start does not restart after stopping at a red light.
Engine Idle Shutoff engaged while at stoplight, however, upon removing foot from brake and attempting to move along with the greenlight signal the vehicle failed to restart. This is the second occurrence with this vehicle since 2018. Engine failed to restart for several minutes while dangerously blocking moving traffic on a busy city street.
For the past couple of weeks, I have seen an quick error message (flashes and then disappears) and my Pilot has hesitated upon restarting after the auto engine idle stop has engaged at a stop sign. This was a longer hesitation (almost a failure to start) than the typical hesitation I feel when this feature engages. Yesterday, an error message stayed on the information screen, warning me that the auto idle stop feature was not working. This morning the error message was not there on startup. When I was at an intersection, my Pilot failed to restart after the auto idle stop feature engaged. It took a couple of attempts (pushing the start button) before the vehicle restarted and I could resume driving. This is a safety hazard for both me and other drivers. I have not yet taken the vehicle to the dealer for inspection.
The alarm has gone off 30 times from 7am this morning to 2pm. I also have a picture of the dashboard lights. About a month ago I took it to the Honda Dealership and they charged me for a bunch of other things and gave it back for it to do it again the same day. Honda said it's a control unit they need to replace but I have to pay?
My car's hood continues to shake. It has been tightened by the dealer, Don Moore Honda in Owensboro, KY. I have taken it there three times because it continues to loosen. I am worried that it will loosen and fly up when I am driving on an Interstate. I am aware that other vehicles of the same year and make/model have been recalled due to this same incident but my vehicle VIN has not been recalled. It is the worst on a windy day or when driving on an interstate. Driving at speeds like 35-45mph doesn't really show.
My 2017 Pilot Elite has been suffering repeated issues with stalling out / engine not turning back on due to some sort of issue with the stop/start function (which will automatically turn the vehicle off when the break has been suppressed for more than 3 seconds). This is extremely dangerous and has put myself, my family, and others on the road in harm's way on multiple occasions. It appears that both NHTSA and Honda are both well aware of this issue, but for some reason are not moving forward with formal resolution despite the severity.
Several times while at a full stop, the idle stop feature has failed when I have taken my foot off the brake and tried to accelerate. The error message tells me to put vehicle in park then press start. That does not immediately work. So far, I have gotten the vehicle to start within 1-2 minutes but this is a safety problem for me and other drivers on the road. I have not taken this to Honda but will be doing that in the next few days.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while her husband was driving approximately 5-10 MPH, the vehicle stalled at an intersection. The contact stated that while driving, the engine seized. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 96,000.
Emissions System Problem message and light on after reset 2 weeks ago. Please refer attached jpeg file.
My Pilot is suffering the auto stop/start fault that many others have reported online. The vehicle will sometimes fail to restart from the stopped state, forcing us to manually turn off, and restart the engine. As of this morning, the vehicle permanently reports an "Auto Engine Idle Stop System Problem" error.
Keyless Start System Problem indicator illuminated in driver information display. Error notification is displayed intermittently. Stays on for several drive cycles and then goes off for a bit only to come back on again. So far the car seems to start ok, not sure if this issue may eventually cause car to no longer start. This issues has been going on for a few months and will stay illuminated for weeks then suddenly turn off. Scheduled an appointment with local Honda dealership but the indicator was not showing the day of the appointment so we cancelled as do not want to pay for the repair. This is a Honda issue and they should repair regardless of the indicator being illuminated or not.
I had my fuel pump replaced today and there were 3 other cars Hondapilot there for the same reason needing a fuel pump replacement. Person at counter advised there was an unusual amount of request they were getting to replace the fuel pump
I am reporting 2 safety issues in this report, both involving the AUTO STOP/START function in my car. SAFETY ISSUE #1: MALFUNCTIONING AUTO STOP/START (ASS) FUNCTION: At least 4 times during the past 2 months, I have had a serious safety issue with my 2017 Honda Pilot wherein it stalls and is completely inoperable for a short time, while I’m stopped at an intersection. This has caused me undue stress and jeopardized the safety of myself and my passengers, and disrupted traffic. According to my best recollection, the situation occurs when the ASS function stalls the engine (when stopped), and I manually press the ‘Disable ASS’ button to restart the engine. But instead of the engine turning back, all systems completely ‘black out’ as I frantically try to re-start the engine, to no effect. After several scary seconds, somehow it re-starts. SAFETY ISSUE #2: CORRECTLY FUNCTIONING ASS FUNCTION: Even when functioning correctly, the ASS function has caused a safety issue for me at least twice. When the ASS function was automatically engaged, I was unable to immediately accelerate to avoid a potential collision. Although no collision resulted, these few scares ‘trained me’ to manually disengage the ASS function whenever I remember to do so. Based on my experiences, It would be safest to have no ASS function at all.

RPM Judder from Torque Converter Lock up clutch felt while driving between 20 and 60 mph. The issue is caused by transmission fluid that overheats and deteriorates quicker than it should. It can be resolved by a vehicle software update which prevents transmission fluid from overheating and prevents the judder. A transmission warning light appears in the vehicle when the issue is experienced. This issue has been confirmed by Honda - see Honda Service Bulletin 17-014 dated 2/27/18. Honda service centers will try to blame consumers for not flushing and changing transmission fluid frequently enough due to black transmission fluid and service is not covered by most warranties since it's considered a fluid maintenance service by Honda.
We drove from Grand Rapids, Michigan to Alexandria, Virginia on 12/27. About 20 minutes from our destination, we exited the highway onto the parkway and as we were going about 15-18mph on an exit ramp, the closed sun roof imploded. There were no trees, bridges, or even other cars (due to it being near 10pm) nearby to cause this from falling debris. There is no impact site- just a broken roof. It was terrifying and I nearly drove off the road from the sound (my husband and 2 children 9 and 11 were also in the car.) The only reason I did not crash the Pilot was due to the fact that I am pretty cool headed- it took us an additional 20 minutes of driving with an unknown state on the top of the roof to discover what had happened due to the fact that there was no way to exit or pull off the parkway. We validated that there was no bridge (aka no one was able to throw something off and onto to the top of the car) and the night was mostly clear. If it was an item it would have to be "part of a plane or a meteor" And no item came through or damaged the closed sun shade for the roof. We took pictures of the glass and have to have it replaced today since we are on a road trip and have to be able to drive this vehicle home before New Years. It is also parked outside and we have to get the roof re-sealed before it rains. I am spending $700+ out of pocket to put a used sunroof on the pilot to be able to get this home (which probably has the same glass defect). The shop is going to do this t
The auto start stop function has failed multiple times on this vehicle in different situations with multiple different drivers. When my mother in law was driving my vehicle with my kids in the car the vehicle would not restart at a stop light in the middle of town with moderately heavy traffic. It took several tries to get the vehicle started again. This has happened to me several times at stop signs and traffic lights since I don't primary drive the vehicle I forget to turn off the auto start stop function. It has failed several times on my wife as well in similar situations. I have not brought this to the dealerships attention due to no fix available and not want to pay to have them tell me the same thing I already know.
Auto Start does not work. Car frequently stalls when in traffic or at red light and fails to auto start when removing foot from brake.
The issue with our 2016 Honda Pilot pertains to the Auto Start/Stop feature. The pilot began stalling out after being at stop signs/traffic signals and the vehicle would attempt to re-start and then stall. When stalled it was very difficult to get the car restarted. On several occasions, the vehicle has stalled in the middle of intersections which has been highly dangerous as the vehicle was stalled for several minutes. We have first logged a complaint with the Honda dealership on 06/10/2020. The dealer claimed it could not replicate the issue. We filed another complaint on 04/23/2021 as the problem persisted. The dealer, again, claimed they could not replicate the issue and then stated we needed a new car battery. The dealer is not being honest as we took our vehicle to a local mechanic (Henn Automative in Waxhaw, NC) for general servicing and he called us to inform us of a dangerous problem with the Auto Start/Stop. This independent service center performed their review on 12/20/2022. He alerted us that a formal action number had been opened by ODI under “PE22005”. Currently our fix is to disable the Auto Start/Stop feature every time the vehicle is operated. In rare occasions when we forget to do so, the vehicle stalls consistently. There have been no alarms, warnings or the like. I believe the dealer & Honda are well aware of this problem but have not garnered the necessary resources to address the issue and pretend that their customers are imagining these occurrences.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
