I have a CMBS issue. Nothing around that would trigger it just driving through an intersection and the CMBS came on and basically just stopped the car for no reason. I get these "BRAKE" messages mostly when the car in front of me is turning right and the Odyssey doesn't think I slow down enough. I know the car is turning, the Odyssey doesn't. I've also had it come up a couple times while going around a curve, I think it detected the oncoming traffic as being in my lane and it told me to "BRAKE". I have video files to prove from my dash cams but I could not upload these files here. Honda dealer misdiagnosed to replace power distribution module but it did not fixed and I found other Honda vehicles has the same CMBS issue. Hoping you got some resolution. Thanks.
2019 Honda Odyssey complaints
Owner reports filed with NHTSA about this vehicle, newest first and reproduced as filed. They are unverified accounts: one proves nothing, and a pattern across many is the thing worth reading. Back to the full 2019 record →
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that she was involved in an accident and that the grille shutter malfunction warning alarm and "power down" message were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic shop, where it was diagnosed that the distance calibration sensor needed to be replaced and that the vehicle was inoperable. The vehicle remained at the mechanic's shop awaiting the parts for the repair, which were on backorder. The contact made a local dealer aware of the failure and was advised to file a complaint with the NHTSA hotline. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was unknown.
Right sliding door will not fully close. It gets a few inches from being closed, then reopens all the way.
The car shuts off when stopped at intersections. We have taken the car to Honda several times and they have been unable to find any problem with it. The message we get is "The system has lost power. Push and hold the power button for more than two seconds to enable the system."
There is often an acceleration hesitation, I have taken the vehicle to various Honda dealers and received no answers of what may be causing the acceleration to be delayed. Coming from a complete stop and trying to pull out and make a left or right turn with oncoming traffic the vehicle doesn't accelerate immediately risking a chance of me being hit by oncoming traffic. I am also teaching my daughter to drive, and we were nearly hit by a car because the van stalled when she was making a left turn. After it fails to accelerate it then takes off at a very high rate of speed causing the wheels to peel off. At some point I feel like this defect is going to cause an accident or something worse. I just pray the issue is addressed before it happens to anyone. There is no warning light, or messages that indicate there is a problem. This problem is ongoing but not consistent on a daily basis it just happens often and randomly ,and has been going on for almost 2 years now.
After driving for over 20 minutes this occurred. Driving down the highway my car had transmission code alert lost speed had to pull over. Turned off car then back on still had alert. For safety reasons I had to drive the car off highway with RMPs going up as I drive. I had the Car towed to a Honda dealership who said dead batter which erased codes and sensor was changed. Got the car back and I had an incident trying to cross traffic where I stepped on gas and it would not go at a normal speed until loud shift and it kicks in. Then another incident driving down highway in Atlanta traffic. Been driving for over an hour, took my foot off the gas due to construction. When I pressed the gas again no gas/speed. The speed kept dropping. No Alerts. Speed dropped to 40mph then a loud shift sound and the car started to regain speed. I am very concerned for my safety. Went back to Honda dealership and they are telling me nothings wrong with the car and no codes.
I have had my 2019 Honda Odyssey in for transmission problems on 3 occasions. The first two times were because of rough shifting with clunking and jerking when upshifting. The mechanic drove with me and after several upshifts with jerking and clunking did, finally, admit that it was rough upshifting. However, when I picked up the vehicle, I was told that nothing was wrong, but that they did download some software to help. I did not help. They said they couldn't address transmission problems unless the failure was experienced by their mechanics. A month later, I was driving about 60-65 mph, on a local highway, in heavy traffic, when the transmission slipped back to a low gear and stuck there with the engine racing. There was nowhere to turn off and cars and trucks were honking at me as I tried to pull over. (It was a very dangerous situation and my handicapped husband was with me. We were both very scared.)I was finally able to pull over into a parking area. but the car wouldn't shift down to neutral when I came to a stop. I called the Honda Dealer and asked if I should have it towed there. He said, "No, when this happens, just turn off the engine and then turn it back on again and see what happens." I did and the transmission acted normally again. I took it into the dealer the next day. They gave me a rental car so they could check it overnight, but returned it to me saying that they detected nothing wrong. I told them that there was something very wrong with the transmission
The vehicle often judders/stutters when accelerating (almost seems like it is buckling), especially when going from low speeds to higher. On occasions, when accelerating, juddering has caused the vehicle to leap forward. This has been happening ever since purchase of the brand new vehicle from the dealer; however, it appears to be occurring more frequently now (at 40,000 miles). We have mentioned this to the dealer and they only recommended a transmission flush. We are concerned both about safety and the durability of the vehicle itself (which was a pretty expensive purchase). On researching this further, it appears that several other owners have been complaining about similar problems.
On Sunday while driving on North Gayton Road at 45 MPH the car started making a terrible sound almost like one makes when overheating and there was a popping type sound. I looked at the dash and it showed a large red "P" which I initially thought was an error code of sometype. I quickly pulled over into the next available turn and noticed when I stopped that the electronic gear shift was in Park and not Drive. That was what the big red "P" was on the dash. It had tried to shift into Park while we were driving. It scared us to death. It has had other minor erratic electrical type problems. The flashers will suddenly be on when no one was near that button, or we will be driving down the road on a bright clear day and the wipers will come on briefly and then usually turn off after a few wipes. I do not know if it is the prom, or the computer, or a short somewhere. This morning it says the battery is low, but it is a brand new battery. We have 67196 miles on the car.
When stopping at an intersection multiple times the idle stop turns the car off and the vehicle refuses to start again and all electronics stop working until the vehicle is turned off completely and the driver door is opened. Does not happen all the time so can't consistently reproduce to have a service center confirm. Vehicle has been inspected during other recall repairs and I was told the repairs being done would not fix that issue.
Hesitation of the transmission, the car doesn't go or hesitates. According to the dealership this is "normal" for this type of transmission. This is not normal for a vehicle and if this is "normal" for this type of transmission, there is something wrong with it. I've been lucky that an accident hasn't occurred, but I've been scared it would on multiple occasions. This happens typically in stop and go traffic.
The auto engine stop feature left me stranded when the engine died. I pulled up to a traffic light and the engine cut off and wouldn’t start automatically when I let my foot off the brake. Also wouldn’t start when I tried manually starting it. Had battery and alternator tested. Both tested fine. Car finally started later. Seems to be ok if you disable the auto shut off function.
Three months into purchasing a brand new 2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L my car would not start. I was told my battery was drained/bad cell, due to the weather being too cold and all the electrical components of my vehicle. We lived in South Georgia and my van is kept in a garage. I was given a new battery at the beginning of 2019 and now in 2022 I’m told I need another AGM battery because mine is dead. I’m told by the dealership they can’t diagnose the problem exactly, but they are 75% sure this is the issue causing my van not to start, unable to be jump started, code P0600, warning lights stating emissions system problems, break system failure, anti-lock break system failure. Outside of Honda I’m told something is draining my battery, but Honda takes no responsibility and it’s out of pocket for a new $240 battery, which may or may not be the issue. Looking online at customer reviews, I’m not the only person with this issue. MANY MANY MANY Honda Odyssey owners have complained of the same issues and nothing has been done by Honda. My vehicle slammed on breaks driving down the interstate at over 70 MPH while my family was in the car. My doors stop closing if I start the car while the doors are mid-close, it will tell me to apply break while shifting to park even when the break is applied. There is an electrical issue within the Odyssey that needs to be addressed and recalled. These vehicles are too expensive to be malfunctioning and needing replacement parts after 3-4 years. I drove m
This has happened twice so far. Car has been driven for awhile, come to a stoplight, auto idle engine kicks in and car shuts down. Car display says press brakes and hit starter to turn car back on. I am essentially stopped at a light unable to move. I am on my 3rd battery for my 2019 Odyssey. I have taken to dealership for diagnostic and they're unable to replicate.
While driving, if I don't make a complete stop (say at a yield sign), and I accelerate, there is a 1-2 second gap between when I press the pedal and the van actually goes. This can happen while fully stopped, while yielding, or even while getting onto the highway. Taking it back to the dealer has yielded only firmware upgrades to the software and recommending a $400 transmission flush. This happens more frequently while in economy mode, but also happens in sport mode. This has been going on for about a year now. The dealer has stated there is nothing wrong with the vehicle, but if I ever have to suddenly accelerate it could mean I will get into an accident.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V438000 (Back Over Prevention) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
The sensor on the passenger sliding door failed to work when the engine was on. Once the engine was off, the sliding door would close. The problem was reproduced by a Honda dealer service and while they were checking with the extended warranty to see if the sensor would be paid for, they let me take the van home for regular use. The next day, the door would not close with or without the engine on. We were not home and we could not leave the van in the parking lot or drive home with the door open, with our two young boys in the middle row in their carseats. My husband stood outside with the van for about 15 minutes until the door finally closed and the rear passenger window shattered. The safety of our family was put at risk due to the loose glass shards and due to the fact that the door was no longer functional. The vehicle was inspected by an agent from Louisiana Dealer Services today and they deemed that the broken window and track are due to damage and will not be covered under the extended warranty. There were no warning signs of a broken sensor before, during or after this incident.
Jerks when downshifting and upshifting. Has been a problem since the vehicle was purchased new off the lot. Is dangerous because of the jerking. Also noticed a clunking noise when transitioning.
When I come to a complete stop and the start/stop motor goes into idle mode (shuts the engine down), I have a problem that occurs after it. It is unpredictable but when I come out of the idle and the engine is supposed to kick back on, my minivan stalls out. This has happened in heavy traffic areas and it takes 30 seconds to a minute to get the van to turn back on as the electrical system malfunctions. Big safety issue that can be scary in the moment. There are error messages that come up on the dash including "Collision Mitigation System Problem", "Brake System", and the center console system will restart. This problem doesn't happen when I disable the start/stop motor as it doesn't go into idle-stop mode. I have read through online forums recently and it appears this issue has happened in other Honda models dating back to 2016 models. This is clearly an issue across years/models and needs to be addressed. The local Honda dealership said they haven't heard of this problem and couldn't replicate. Therefore, there was no repair provided.
The passenger side, rear sliding door does not engage in the locking mechanism. It intermittently lacks securely latching. In looking into the door, it appears that the actuator is not engaging properly. Upon researching this for a few minutes, I do see that there were recalls on 2018-2019 Honda Odysseys (as well as other models of Hondas). My car is a 2019 Odyssey. I have called Honda about this issue and they do not acknowledge this recall in regards to my VIN. Service Bulletin 18-128 in Nov. 2018 I do not understand the method used to determine which cars are impacted by the recall, or rather how mine is not (yet) included when I clearly have a faulty door latch which can potentially harm my children and other passengers. The door has automatically reversed from opening to closing halfway through and has come very close to hurting my daughter. Please get me a recall notice/repair notice (online would be fine!) asap so that I can get this taken care of immediately. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2018/RCRIT-18V795-2903.pdf Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
My van regularly hesitates from the stopped position. This often causes a safety hazard when turning right into traffic or making a left turn because I am not able to accelerate for several seconds and the vehicle feels as if it is stalling out. It is a known mechanical defect with Honda and they do not currently have a resolution. When reported, I was told the mechanical system defects to switching through all the gears before accelerating, causing the delay. I have brought the car into the dealership once regarding the issue and have been dealing with Honda headquarters with no resolution. Not only does this cause performance issues, there have been several close calls when I try to accelerate entering highway or making sharp turns
Brought the car in to get fixed for a static issue on the stereo. And it would no longer beep when getting close to a object backing up
Transmission stalled when the vehicle was in drive in the middle of the road. Wouldn't accelerate or move. I put my entire family in the car at risk of 6 people and those on the road as my car completely stopped driving. Went to Honda dealership was told faulty Transmission. They could not cover any of the repairs! It's a 3 year old vehicle with a faulty Transmission. No lights or warnings came up until the Transmission stalled out of no where.
HI , I am getting mails from HONDA corporate on my vehicle for a faulty rear view camera as per ( Federal motor vehicle safety standard No 111, "Rear visibility " . This was mailed in SEP 2020 and now i received the 2nd notice . I have been chasing up honda dealers ( Honda of Turnersville and burns Honda ) to fix the issue , every time these dealers keep mentioning that they don't have spare parts or remedy to fix the issue. Its been 2 years , So far there is no resolution and i feel these vehicles are not safe on roads while pulling the vehicle back . I have reached HONDA corporate also to register my complaint and they mentioned the dealers have spare parts now , But when i call dealers they always come with story that they dont have remedy to fix the issue from corporates .
Leak in the fuel system vent line, vent line rupture. Leaking of fuel when car is parked in the Sun.

My vehicle had recall 20V-438 issued in September 2020. I recently received a followup letter from Honda informing me that I had not completed this recall. Since the recall was issued, I have attempted to schedule to have the recall completed at every service appointment I've had at my Honda dealership. Every single time (January 2021, July 2021, December 2021, May 2022), I was told parts were still not available. To have a recall open for almost 2 years without a supply of parts available to complete it is extremely frustrating. At this point, Honda should be contacting me when the parts are actually available.

This is a problem with the auto engine idle shut off. The engine shuts off normally when I come to a stop when I have the system engaged. The problems begin when I take my foot off the break expecting the engine to start up again. What happens consistently (though not all the time) is that when I take my foot off the brake, the engine shuts off, shifts itself into Park, and I have trouble getting the engine to start up again. A number of warning messages show up on the center console as well. Things like, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Road Departure Mitigation, Brake System warnings start displaying. Sometimes, I can get the engine to start up again within 30 seconds. Sometimes, it's been more than a minute. It almost looks/sounds like the battery is dead too (makes that clicking sound and the RPM gauge jiggles around zero). My Honda service shop says they couldn’t replicate the issue, that there are no codes, and no service advisories. This started happening around 6-8 months ago and the incidents have recently increased significantly in frequency. This is a significant safety issue as every time this happens, which is now daily, I am vulnerable to being rear-ended and other vehicles are vulnerable to being in an accident by trying to go around me while I’m waiting for my vehicle to be able to restart.
Collision mitigation system problem error keeps appearing randomly on the screen!

Rear backup camera failed. There is already a recall for this problem but does not extend to all VINs.
Vehicle shifts hard in low gears creating a safety risk
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while at an intersection and attempting to make a left turn, the accelerator pedal was depressed however, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact waited approximately 3-4 seconds and depressed the accelerator pedal again and the vehicle responded. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 34,186.
Frequently the engine will stall on restart after idle stop system cuts the engine off at a light. Occasionally the stall will lead to a full reboot of the control system taking up to 3 minutes to allow a restart of the engine.
In September 2021, I started occasionally receiving the error message "Collision Mitigation System Problem" on my dashboard. It would appear and quickly disappear. At that time, my car shut itself off when I came to a full stop at traffic lights and stop signs 3 different times. The car would boot back up, but it happened to me in the middle of intersections. I took the vehicle into the dealership and they told me it was the battery. I had the battery replaced, but with time, the "Collision Mitigation System" error reappeared along with other messages, "Engine Management System Problem" and "Road Departure Mitigation Problem." During this time, my car would brake on its own occasionally, happening 6 times in total, when there was no threat of a head-on collision. Three of these incidents happened in the middle of intersections with cars all around me and in one instance, my car come to a screeching halt on its own making me terrified that the car behind me was going to crash into me. The last straw was as I was driving to my child's school and when I came to a curve in the road, my steering locked up completely, not allowing me to turn with the curve. I was able to slam on my brakes and keep myself from crashing, but it was very dangerous. At the same time, the same error messages were flooding my dashboard. That is when I drove my just 3 year old car back into the Honda Dealership and told them they must fix this before I put my child back into that car, and my car still sit
From time to time the automatic sliding doors (usually the driver side) would fail to close when the close button was pressed. The sliding door would move toward closing but it would bounce back to open position after traveling 2/3 of the way as if it detected an obstruction. At time it would take many tries for the door to actually close itself successfully. It happened at random occasions with no patterns.
Passenger side slide door unable to open. i have older people to transport and becomes highly issue to move them to other side and get out of the vehicle. dealer charged for the issue and just manually reset coulple of days back and again it started coming. kindly address the issue.
Car has 22,000 miles. And has intermittent transmissions issues. After a stop, I accelerated thru and intersection then when I pulled my foot off the gas to slow down the car engine revved up so loud, really loud. But there was no movement. Also coming off of a stop the car doesn’t go sometimes. I have to push the gas more. If I’m on the freeway at high speeds and I release the gas because I know the traffic is slowing up ahead. The car will shift down loudly and sometimes jerk.
I purchased my 19' Odyssey in March, almost two months ago. It was used with only 19k miles. During the test drive I mentioned to the sales guy (sitting in passenger seat) a strange noise that sounded like fluttering, but only when accelerating 1k-1500k RPM. I didn't think much of it so I made the purchase. Come May 2nd I got the Oil changed (at the same dealership). I couldn't help but notice the same sound mentioned earlier, but even louder. Since then I've recorded numerous videos of the sound, also worth mentioning the speaker crackling. On Monday of this week I took the car in, showed the mechanic the video of the engine noise and speaker crackle. He mentioned he's only worked on one other odyssey with the same engine sound, resulted being the short block. After they were done, I was told by the service writer that they couldn't replicate the engine noise but did change fiber optic connectors for my speaker crackling (crackle still occurs but only on HD signal). I went over to the Service Manager and showed him the videos, we went for a drive around and heard the noise. He said to drop off the car Friday (today) and he'll have a loaner ready for me. I dropped off the van, spoke with the senior mechanic and the manager, they saw the videos and said they are going to take care of it. They wanted to test drive the car, however the sound is much louder when my car is either cold, or before reaching it's regular temps. I will attach two links to this letter that better show t
AUTOMATIC RAIN SENSING WIPERS EQUIPPED WITH ELITE MODELS DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY HINDERING VISIBILITY IN RAIN/SNOW. IT FUNCTIONS IRRADICABLY, WIPING TOO FAST WHEN THERE IS VERY LITTLE RAIN OR CONVERSELY, NOT WIPING ENOUGH WHEN THERE'S A DOWNPOUR. ADJUSTING SENSITIVITY LEVELS KNOB DID NOT AFFECT ANYTHING. Six months or more ago, my van started acting as though it is stuck in a gear before it finally shifts to the next gear. At first is happened every once in a while, but it now happens several times every trip and always at speeds between 25-40mph. Additionally, when I press down on the gas pedal, there sometimes tends to be a delay in it responding, so I've been very careful about pulling out in traffic. But recently, it seems to be happening while the van is already in motion. And, just yesterday, when accelerating from a stop, the car lurched forward and the wheels screeched. Regarding electrical issues, just this past December, we were driving home from vacation, and as we were passing through downtown Nashville, the car suddenly lost all electrical power. As the car began to slow, my husband pumped the gas as we were on an interstate junction and had no other alternative. Thankfully, after a 10-15 seconds, everything turned back on and we continued to our way. I've owned the van since Oct 2020 and it only has 57K miles on it. We've had several Hondas over the past 25 years (this is our 3rd Odyssey), and have loved them all. But, I'm very concerned about safety as well as the money spent.
On April 14, 2022 I parked our Odyssey in the parking lot of our child care center. I went in the building and when I came out of the building (approximately 5-7 minutes later) flames were coming out of the hood near the windshield. Within a few more minutes the flames had engulfed the front half or two-thirds of the car. Prior to this incident we had no warning lamps, and zero indication of anything wrong with the vehicle. The vehicle had approximately 35,000 miles and had always run perfectly. The incident has been reported to insurance. A fire inspector came to the scene and said the damage was so bad we would likely not know the cause of the fire.
My vehicle has a problem with delayed acceleration and excessive acceleration. When releasing my foot from the brake pedal then pressing on the gas pedal, the vehicle doesn't always accelerate when the gas pedal is pressed. There seems to be a few second delay and then all of a sudden there is too much acceleration. We've reported this to our dealership several times. Several of their employees told us that this is just the nature of the 9 speed transmission. We've also reported it to Honda's corporate service and they didn't acknowledge any problems. They were plenty nice but lacked what I felt was the drive to help. Their time between my report and their follow up was terribly long. There are multiple reports of the same exact thing online so I know it's not exclusive to us. This is an absolute safety issue as the delayed acceleration can cause us to get hit from behind and also mess up our timing as we move along w/ traffic. The excessive acceleration is a safety issue in that it may cause us to hit a vehicle or something in front of us as the vehicle jolts. Overall, the vehicle is fantastic other than this issue. I've told the dealer and Honda as such. This has gone on since owning the vehicle and even this morning, 4/5/2022, with approximately 53k miles on the vehicle. Fortunately, we haven't had any accidents and I hope there is never an accident with us or any other 2019 Honda Odyssey owners....thus my reason for sending this message. Thank you for your consideration.
Minivan's transmission seems to lurch/skip while driving at lower speeds. Did it twice in a matter of seconds.
I’ve had this vehicle into the shop many times for what seems to be erratic shifting at low speeds. Each time I go they tell me they’ve done and update and the problem is not resolved.
I was driving my 2019 Honda Odyssey on the highway and it stopped suddenly in the middle of the highway. The car went to idle mode and changed itself to park gear. We had to off the car and restart it which was dangerous in the middle of the highway. This same incident happened earlier too but in a residential street. We took it to the dealership but they said they couldn’t find anything wrong. Then I heard the news story about nhtsa investigation into this problem with Honda and wanted to report my experience. This is dangerous and they need to figure out what is going on.
The multi function display froze up at beginning of the power cycle with an error message about Apple Carplay not available. All other functions of the display were also frozen out such that the front window defogger, and backup camera would not function. The frozen display lasted throughout the entire drive cycle and even remained after the car was parked for 15 approximately 15 minutes. Full function returned on the next drive cycle about 40 minutes later. Dealership confirmed that a code was stored but did not give the code. Dealership requested a $75 charge in order to update the software in the multi function device. This device is required to operate defrost and backup camera functions so expect this is a safety critical concern.
The contact owns a 2019 Hyundai Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle suddenly experienced Phantom Braking” and the vehicle decelerated to 60 MPH. The contact tapped the brakes excessively causing the sudden self-braking to cease. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the vehicle. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 31,000.
When I look up the recalls for my vehicle https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls says "If the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for your vehicle in a timely manner, please contact the NHTSA". My vehicle manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy safety recall Manufacturer Recall Number W83 / NHTSA Recall Number 20V-438. I've been in communication with my dealer for over a year trying to get this fixed. Every time, including last week, they say "we can't fix that because the parts are on backorder".

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
