Steering wheel feels like it sticks at center. When you try to make a minor adjustment, you need to use excess force to break the hold. That's causes the car to jerk into an over steer and you have to jerk it quickly back to correct. This can be very dangerous and put you in bad situations constantly.

Steering
Filed Mar 21, 2023NH

At highway speeds and after longer periods of driving (>20-30 minutes) the steering becomes stuck in position until excess force is applied, leading to over-correction, and I believe this is a safety concern. This problem has been observed widely when searching online. The vehicle has not been inspected, is out of warranty, is available for inspection upon request, and no messages or other symptoms appeared. This problem first appeared in 2020 and persists when different tires and wheels are mounted.

Steering
Filed Mar 3, 2023FL

When trying to keep the vehicle traveling straight, the steering seems to stick and then suddenly release once more force is applied to the steering wheel. This causes an over correction in steering and requires the driver to quickly correct in the opposite direction to avoid going in to the next lane.

On February 5th I was taking my car out to the grocery store. All of a sudden my lights turned on and as soon as I'm going up the hill, going back home the car starts to shake uncrontrollably. I check my car under the hood toes what is going on, all of my wiring had been damaged, even the battery was damaged. I later bought the new wiring and and battery and had it replaced. After a few days at the mechanic I was able to get my car back but the mechanic said that due to the fact of the material that Honda is making their wiring which is the soy bean material, animal love to eat from that it has been something that he has seen for quite some time. Anyway I thought it might've been from the location of where I parked the night before when I had to go outside of town because I always park right in front of my house and its the first time. February 17th, I was pulling out of my parking spot and noticed that my car wasn't breaking as it should be so therefore I stopped the car and opened my door and immediately when I look under the hood I knew animals had gotten into from the pile of leaves and sticks on top of of everything and afterwards the car just turned off all by itself. I am now experiencing the exact same thing which puts my life at risk because the car just stops working mid ride and I could be on a whole highway and cause a collision. If they know that this is something that animals look for to eat I think that it is not safe to use for a car cause I could have been in

SAFETY CONCERN > while driving on a local roadway, the right front tire went flat but the OEM TPMS ( this Civic model uses a indirect system ) never alerted ( due to traffic & road conditions was unable to pull off road ) & had to drive to nearest tire dealer, where a associate confirmed no TPMS warnings were displayed. after repair work completed, contacted a local Honda dealer service dept. , where a advisor stated there is no repair possible on Honda's indirect TPMS. he suggested installing a aftermarket direct TPMS ( tire pressure sensors are installed in each tire & a display unit fitted somewhere on dash ) at owner's cost. this is a safety concern.

Wiring harness was "damaged by rodents" twice due to the swap to soy-based, edible wiring. No other vehicles have this issue in my area and I have lived here 5 years. This damage causes all electrical systems to fail, including power steering, and will eventually result in a fatality - if it has not already. Honda will not cover this under warranty and has done nothing to resolve the issue! The alleged "spicy tape fix" does not deter rodents.

I purchased a 2017 Honda Civic LX from a local Honda. 10 minutes after leaving the dealership, the TPMS lights came on. Please note it was cold outside. Took the car to Autozone to have codes read. Code c0077-78 was detected. Once I got home, I checked the tire air pressure and the tire air pressure was low. I added air to tire afterward. I reset the TPMS and the TPMS light went away. The next day, the light came on for a few seconds after I started the car, but the light disappeared again. I didn't check the air pressure. I took it to Autozone to see if any codes were detected, but no codes were detected and all systems were functional.

This is a known issue with Hondas from 2016 and up where the Body Control Module (BCM) is faulty and malfunctioning. When the car turns off, it turns itself back on and makes noises to turn itself back on. This issue may cause possible electrical issues that may short and start a fire internally. Honda dealerships across the country have known about this issue for many years, yet they have not fixed the problem. There are youtube videos entailing the same occurrences in a lot of other people's cars, including myself. My vehicle has not been inspected but spoke with several Honda dealerships about the issue, and they are all aware of the issue, yet have no solution but to replace it. The BCM is on backorder for months and people are without cars to use due to the repeated occurrences for everybody. There are no signs of any issues before the faulty BCM malfunctions. Dealerships charge $1500-2500 for car repairs that they are not able to fix due to the backorder of the component. If this issue has been going on for several years, why hasn't Honda fixed and replace the issue, instead of knowing the issue and making their customers pay a large amount of money to fix what they know will go wrong? It is unethical and demoralizing to have a company take advantage of its customers. Link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKdfkzsnXT0

2017 Honda Civic with 15K milage - A/C broke down for the second time after I had it’s condenser replaced at the dealership in 2019 due to cracks/holes. I took it to the dealership few days ago and they told me it costs $509.00 for diagnosis. Took it somewhere else to recharge it but it only lasted 2 days and we’re back to blowing warm air but what’s interesting is that the passenger side’s vent blows slightly cooler air than the driver side! I took it to many auto repair places and I was told many times that 2016-2019 models have faulty A/C which Honda knows about but won’t issue a recall. I hope these complaints lead to a formal investigation.

Several messages indicating a transmission, parking brake, hill assist, fuel gauge, steering, braking , traction control, charging system failures were displayed. The vehicle hit the garage door. The contact attempted to reverse but the gear shifter remained stuck into park (P) position. The contact manually disengaged the transmission linkage located in the AC system. The contact then pushed the vehicle backwards. An independent mechanic came to the contact's residence and diagnosed that the transmission control module (TCM) had failed and had affected the computer system, which led to the failure. The independent mechanic associated the failure with Honda Technical Service Bulletin Number: 17-012. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified and informed the contact that the vehicle would be repaired at his own expense as the vehicle was out of warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.

This results in air bubbles separating the glass from the glue seam and rubber seats. If too many occur for a long enough period, windshield can crack, shatter or break completely free during normal driving. This is happening on a less than 5 year old car. Honda Dealership has inspected and taken pictures of bubble areas that are occurring between the entire seal. Bubbles started occurring 3 years ago and got significantly worse over time. This complaint is specifically about the A/C Evaporator in my Honda Civic. After taking my car in for the 2nd time in about 13 months (to the Honda Dealership), the A/C system appears to be faulty on my vehicle. After online research, it appears that this is very common issue for many 2016-2019 Honda Civic models and it’s hard to imagine the company isn’t aware. Thus far, the company has offered to cover the Condenser issue (after the company was in a class action lawsuit) but will not cover the A/C Evaporator, which costs over $2000. Given the recent heat waves, the safety of myself and my passengers are potentially compromised until this issue is fixed, especially those with disabilities. It would be highly appreciated if this matter is investigated and resolved for all Honda Civic owners. Thank you!

1. Driving on the freeway with multiple lanes. I driver cuts across multiple lanes and even though they only stayed 1 second in front of me and jumped into another lane, Honda thinks it's time to apply the brake after they have merged over to next lane. Applying the brakes when nobody is in front of me! 35mph 2. I can be 25 feet behind a car. That car happens to be making a turn at an intersection. It clears my path, but it's stuck just at the corner of the other street because traffic isn't flowing for them. I have 100% clear of path. And guess what, Honda decides to slam on the brakes because it saw the vehicle is about a foot away from my lane stopped. Honda can't tell the difference if I'm going straight or following the car that turned so it thinks it's better to slam on the brakes when in question. Very dangerous! 40mph 3. When on a multi lane freeway. I have no car in front of me but there is a vehicle in another lane. As I try to pass the vehicle, my Civic applies the brakes when the road isn't straight but very slightly curved. In my opinion it's not calculating at all that we are in a curve. It seems like Honda is not using vision from camera to tell the lanes and lane markers and also the steering wheel. But it only detects that somehow we will collide. 65mph A dangerous system and shouldn't be allowed until the bug is fixed with software update. So far Honda hasn't acknowledged anything. I have to gather all my footage and share it with you, maybe through youtube?

2017 Honda Civic the AC stopped cooling in the middle of summer in summer California where the temperature is regularly above 110 degrees. An AC failure in this area IS a safety issue. After paying $289 for diagnosis they said the evaporator is leaking. The warranty was extended for all 2017 Honda Civics for leaks of the condenser. They also have similar complaints for the compressors. We have 3 other older Hondas that have never had an evaporator start leaking and when we said that to the service tech, he said that newer Hondas are less reliable. This is at a Honda dealership, so it's quite the sales pitch for buying a new Honda. It seems obvious that the 2017 Honda Civic has an overall problem with the AC. I was quoted $1800 for repair, but I am not convinced that is the problem. I wish I hadn't taken it to a dealership to start with, but I was sure that they would be honest and cover the repair under warranty. A new aftermarket evaporator from a very reputable company costs under $70 so that's a lot of labor costs added on. Civicx.com has so many reports of this problem that it's over 12 pages long. This problem should definitely be covered under the 10 year extended warranty.

Last week the AC in my '17 Honda Civic Hatchback went out and I took it to the local dealership to have it diagnosed. Upon review, they informed me the AC's evaporator unit is leaking and it will cost $800 to replace. I'm aware there is a recall (TSB 19-091) on the condenser from 2016-2018 Civics. Honda came out with a TSB regarding this issue, all 2016-2018 civics have 10yr/unlimited mile warranties now on condensers. TSB 19-091, dated Dec 11th 2019. Per the bulletin: " American Honda is extending the warranty on the A/C condenser to 10 years from the original date of purchase with unlimited miles. This warranty only covers vehicles that have a defective A/C condenser from the factory. The A/C condenser was not manufactured to specification. As a result, tiny holes may develop in the condenser tube walls that allows the refrigerant to leak out. " However, there seems to be an EQUALLY large number of complaints online about compressors and evaporators failing in those years of Civic as well. Every single private mechanic I spoke to said they's seen dozens of '17 Civics with the exact same issue and to take it back to Honda. As such, it turns out failure across ALL the components of the AC system (compressors/condensers/evaporators) is relatively common after only a handful of years. I believe an amended bulletin should be provided to cover ALL repairs across the AC system. As a 1st responder, it is not safe for me to drive this vehicle to/from work in the 115 degree weather t

I believe the issue I'm about to explain is with the EPS Rack Assembly. I am deeply concerned for my safety and the safety of other riding in my vehicle as it is difficult sometimes to keep the vehicle on the road due to the steering sticking at random times. MANY other 2016+ Honda Civic owners are experiencing this problem as there are several forums currently viewed on the internet discussing this issue. When driving the vehicle, the steering wheel "sticks" in one spot when turning and sometimes takes a considerable force to break the steering wheel free. This issue seems to happen after the car/engine is warm (20-30 minutes into driving). This problem started out as minor and sporadic, but has become much worse in the past month or so. I will be making an appointment with my local Honda dealer for evaluation.
