2026 Honda CBR600RR

Defect. Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2024-2026 CBR600RR motorcycles. The cylinder head may have been improperly manufactured, which can lead to rod bearing failure, possibly resulting in rear wheel lock up or oil leaking onto the rear tire.

Risk. Rear wheel lockup increases the risk of a crash or injury. Engine oil that leaks onto hot exhaust components increases the risk of a fire.

Remedy. Dealers will replace the engine assembly, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed February 9, 2026. A second letter will be sent once the remedy is available, anticipated October 31, 2026. Owners may contact Honda's customer service at 1-866-784-1870. Honda's numbers for this recall are KT5 and KU3. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning January 7, 2026.

The contact was able to safely get off the roadway and became aware that there was smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. The contact attempted to restart the motorcycle. The motorcycle was towed to the residence. The motorcycle was not repaired. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V891000 ( ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING); but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact not to attempt to restart the motorcycle. The failure mileage was 16,500.

Bike is running rough and burning oil.

The oil level in my motorcycle has continued to drop every time I take it to the dealership to get inspected, and 7 months after I was notified about the recall, there is still no repair available for my vehicle. This is unacceptable as i am unable to ride my motorcycle across long distances and am inconvenienced every 300 miles to get it inspected at my dealership. There needs to be a solution asap to repair my vehicle.

The vehicle experienced a harsh cranking noise and the power diminishes when changing gears. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where engine oil was added and observed for any additional leaks. The dealer stated for the contact to come to the dealer every 200 miles to add oil. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 1,800.

I recently learned that this motorcycle is affected by an active recall related to potential engine defects that can lead to oil loss, rod bearing failure, and possible rear wheel lock. As a new rider, I do not feel safe operating this motorcycle until the recall repair is fully implemented. The first stage of the recall was completed prior to my purchase, but the defect persists and the permanent remedy is not yet available. I request the following actions be documented and addressed: 1.Official acknowledgement of my safety concern and that the bike is currently unsafe to ride. 2.Escalation to Honda Customer Relations for review of transport assistance, towing, or other options while the recall repair is pending. 3.Notification to NHTSA of my ongoing safety concerns, including my inability to safely ride the motorcycle. 4.Documentation of the unresolved recall and any potential next steps, including eligibility for goodwill compensation or buyback if the defect cannot be repaired promptly. I appreciate your prompt attention to this serious safety concern and ask that all communications and documentation be retained for my records.
