The vehicle’s shift control module in the transmission is malfunctioning. The vehicle is shifting hard and having trouble finding the gears. The safety issue is that this is a known GMC transmission malfunction with the risk that the rear wheels can lock up when downshifting in the higher gears. Sudden rear wheels lock up proses a risk to cause an accident on the roadway potentially harming the driver and passengers in the defective vehicle as well as risking other drivers on the road. No warnings were given before the malfunction. The vehicle has been regularly serviced on time and taken care of. The malfunction began and within one week the vehicle progressed to shifting so hard I didn’t feel comfortable driving it especially with my child in tow.

My daughter and I drove to town to run some errands, we live twenty-three minutes away and take the freeway. Speed limit on that specific section of the freeway (I80) is 80mph. As I was taking the on-ramp to enter traffic, My GMC started shifted very hard and losing power. The vehicle was sputtering and making strange sounds. I was unable to exceed 60mph due to excessive vibrations/shaking the vehicle. Steering was starting to be difficult at the same time I noticed Oil Pressure Gauge slowly dropping on instrument panel below 25psi. I had to pull over immediately. oil pressure remained lower than normal, verified Oil was filled to manufactures specifications (changed June 30, 2025). Returned the vehicle to my place of residence as safe and slow as I possibly could and parked it as it is a major safety concern.

My 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 shows message "Shift To Park" when turning off, even though it has been shifted to park. Have to play with shifter to get it to stop, sometimes turning it back on and off will do trick. Locking it with remote works most of the time but this last time it took over 10 minutes .

Unloaded my Denali at huge loss with 30,000 miles because gm wouldn’t fix recall after many times in shop, broke down on freeway, and need to travel to Canada on business. Canada won’t allow vehicles with open safety recalls to enter country even though im pretty sure engine was MADE in Canada. Gm corporate office told me there’s nothing they can do. While in shop for 4 days of testing i watched vehicle on app, never started, moved, just put out back for 4 days then told absolutely nothing. Just wanted fair trade in for diesel. Truck looked identical to brand new on lot, 10/10 except engine recall. Gm promised to reimburse rental fees when broke down a week or so, submitted documents to Gm, nothing recieved. Bought ram instead for obvious reasons. Is there a lemon law, class action, agency etc that can help compensate for losses? The public should be warned!
A 2022 Sierra 1500 had a catastrophic engine failure while driving. The vehicle was unstable and came to rest. The issue has been confirmed base on the recall notice. The vehicle has been sitting at the dealer for three months waiting for GM to 'Open' the recall on this vehicle. Customer Service has been contacted on several occasions but the recall is still not opened.
Purchase a used 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali with a 3.0L diesel at around 42,000 miles. Drove it for about 1,500 miles before I started noticing unusual shifting with the transmission which became more noticeable with time. At around 44,000 miles, the truck had two hard shifts going 35-40 MPH on a flat round and put itself into limp mode. Turned off and on the truck multiple times, the engine light always stayed on but the symptoms would come and go. Either way the truck always went back into limp mode after a few miles. I did a quick scan and it came out with a P0700 and P0746 code. I limped it to the dealer and was told that it was a bad valve body which is apparently on back order with no ETA and they can’t tell me when I will get my truck back.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that after shifting to drive (D) and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as intended. The contact shifted to park(P) and attempted to turn off the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to turn off. The contact stated after several attempts, the vehicle turned off; however, the contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The contact stated that the "Service Engine" warning light was illuminated. The contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer. The contact stated that the tow truck driver was unable to shift the vehicle to neutral(N) to winch the vehicle onto the flat bed. The dealer had not yet diagnosed the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 17,000.
While driving on streets and freeways the truck will shift hard and then loss of acceleration and into limp mode. Lights all on dash go crazy like brakes, 4WD, fuel gauge and check engine light. It has done it 8 times now and has been in the shop 5 times with same issue. Major safety issue while driving 70 mile hour then governs it at 55-62 mile per hour.
The radiator needs to be replaced on the 3.0L due to a leak in the seam of the radiator. The dealer has stated that they have had a few in the shop recently due to the same issue. There are a lot of complaints online that have the same issue, and customers have had to pay $3000 for the same replacement.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 25-30 MPH, the transmission shifted hard while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that while driving 75 MPH with the cruise control activated, the vehicle hesitated with the message "Service Transmission Immediately" displayed. The vehicle stalled and the contact coasted the vehicle off to the shoulder of the highway. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. While speaking with a relative that owned a similar vehicle, the contact was informed of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V797000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that the vehicle was not under recall; the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,200.
Pulling away from a stop sign when we were driving, and when I started to excelerate the truck it just died. We were at a busy intersection and was able to pull off the road into a parking lot and had AAA come and tow the truck and took it to Poages Auto Plaza, Quincy IL. This could have been really serious had we been on a busier road. We tried to restart the vehical and it would not start. We are going to need a loaner vehical preferrably a Truck.
While driving on [XXX] from Houston to San Antonio the front Grille spontaneously flew off from my hood and hit my windshield. Grille damaged the hood but no known damage to shield. This was very frightening while on a highway because it almost caused me to crash as it triggered my PTSD from the blast and led me to swerve. Fortunately I regained vehicle control and avoided other damage to others. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Multiple times today my tailgate dropped randomly without my knowledge. With the tailgate randomly dropping, and no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms, it puts others at risk due to the potential for the contents of the truck bed to fall out into traffic causing damage or bodily injury to others on the road. During my research on what could cause this to occur, I was made aware of a recall of this same make, model, and year vehicle. The description of the reason for the recall was exactly what I experienced with my vehicle. I immediately attempted to confirm that my vehicle was listed on the recall by entering by VIN online. I discovered that there was not an active recall on my specific vehicle, so I contacted the nearest GMC dealership. After speaking with the service tech, he confirmed that my symptoms was exactly what the dealership had addressed with other vehicles that were on the recall list. He confirmed that my VIN was not included, yet the recall did have the same make, model, and year. I will be making an appointment at my dealership to repair this at my expense since it is not covered on the recall.

Year: 2022 Make: GMC Model: Sierra 1500 Denali 6.2L V8] - Location: Navajo Nation Reservation - [XXX] INCIDENT DESCRIPTION The engine completely seized while driving at highway speed, rendering the vehicle inoperable. Farmington GMC dealership confirmed total engine failure requiring complete replacement. All engine components available for inspection at dealership. I request preservation of all failed components for manufacturer/NHTSA inspection. Safety Risk This catastrophic failure created severe safety hazards: 1. Highway Emergency: Engine seized at approximately 65 mph, causing sudden power loss requiring emergency stop in remote area off [XXX]. 2. Remote Stranding: Breakdown in extremely remote Navajo reservation area with minimal cell service, no local emergency service available, leaving family of three small children, y wife and myself, stranded overnight in vehicle under harsh desert conditions and exposed to robbery or worse. Emotional and mental stress was very high. 3. System Failures: Complete engine failure caused loss of power steering, brakes, air conditioning, and charging systems during emergency stop. While traveling at highway speeds in a very congested and busy segment near Virginia Beach Virginia the truck began shifting erratically and suddenly lost power which required me to cross two lanes of traffic 30 miles an hour below the speed limit to get to the shoulder. Cars were swerving everywhere to miss us with this sudden loss of power and speed. The truck has been towed and now at the dealer where it has been diagnosed with a stuck/failed pressure control solenoid and the valve body must be replaced which is apparently on back order due to the high number of failures on the GM 10speed transmissions. Such a sudden loss of power and the reduced power mode of the software made the situation extremely dangerous at highway speeds in congested traffic. Something should be done quickly to get these vehicles off the road until a suitable fix is resolved as someone is going to get killed.
I bought the truck 3.5 months ago with 66,000 miles with a recall (reprogramming) on the transmission already done according to the dealer. Then yesterday on 6/25 the truck stuttered then shifted hard. When I got to my destination it didn’t have reverse. But no warning lights. So I drove it to the dealer and before I got there it did it again and sent the truck into a power loss mode this time with a warning light. And would barely finish going up the hill with cars behind me. Now they are saying it needs a transmission but gm is only offering to pay half. Also saying the diesel would be covered but my gas isn’t even though I’m pretty sure they are the same transmission makes no sense. Lastly shouldn’t them offering to pay %50 show that they know they have a problem
Due to GMC not having a fix for the safety recall to repair the potential engine failure, we are unsafe driving our car. This has been in effect since April and still no fix is available. We feel extremely unsafe driving this car due to this issue.
The OnStar module is no longer working. When I purchased the vehicle, the green light did not turn on. I called customer service, and they advised me to take it to the dealership since they were unable to connect to the vehicle. I am unable to contact emergency services in case of an accident, and I cannot access services like remote location and remote start from the mygmc app. I have seen several people online state that their module failed as well. It's a common occurrence that falls onto the customer to pay for. An update to the module seems to be the reason so many modules are failing.
The tailgate keeps dropping while driving and while parked. The key fob is in a protected area or not near truck at all when this occurs
I was on the way to the airport and my vehicle suddenly went into reduced power mode and had trouble shifting into gear. I pulled over, shut off my truck, and turned it back on only to have the problem continue. I was able to turn around and make it home, but the vehicle would then not shift into reverse. We had to push the vehicle so that I could position it in the street. Once we were back from vacation, I took it to a GM Certified Service location (my local Cadillac dealership). After review, they diagnosed a defective valve body and the engine recall. I’ve been informed as of today that my valve body will be $3,000 and GM will not cover it because I have more than 60k miles on the truck (it has 72k). After research, this is a common issue and it is ridiculous that GM will not escalate the issue and help consumers with this clear problem due to their manufacturing and/or design. The vehicle is currently sitting at the dealer waiting for a back ordered valve body and I have had to go out of pocket to rent a vehicle. Every service for the vehicle has been completed at a GM Certified Service location. It is available for inspection immediately, if required.

The contact stated that the failure reoccurred, the vehicle lost motive power, and the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact returned the vehicle to the same dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact stated that the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was towed back to the same dealer. The dealer had not yet diagnosed the vehicle but advised the contact that the transmission had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 31,000.
The incident occurred during a journey from Sacramento, CA, to Winchester, CA, a distance of approximately 486 miles in my 2022 GMC Sierra AT4, equipped with the recalled 6.2L V8 engine, which has accumulated around 61,000 miles. I was driving when a loud bang caught my attention over the music. After that, I heard swooshing sounds three times before the engine lost power. I was able to move over to the right shoulder throughout heavy traffic; I managed to make it safely. During the maneuvering of my truck to the shoulder, I noticed on the dashboard that the vehicle was telling me to shift the vehicle to neutral and start it. I shifted the vehicle to neutral, but it did not start. Upon inspecting the fuses and battery for any obvious issues, I proceeded to check the harmonic balancer for signs of engine seizing. The engine had completely locked up.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 80 MPH, there were several abnormal loud sounds coming from the vehicle and the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was drifted over to the shoulder of the road. The message “Shift to Neutral and Restart Vehicle” was displayed. The vehicle failed to restart. The contact performed an inspection under the hood and determined that the engine had seized. The contact stated that the failure occurred while on travel. The vehicle was towed to the hotel. The following morning, the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle had been at the dealer since April 28, 2025. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact was advised to contact the dealer for a status update. The failure mileage was 60,910. Parts distribution disconnect.
I am writing to formally lodge a complaint and request immediate resolution regarding my 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 equipped with the L87 6.2L V8 engine, which has been out of service for more than 30 consecutive days due to a recall-related defect. The vehicle is inoperable, and I have been informed by the authorized dealership that no loaner vehicle will be provided, with no clear estimate for when parts or repairs will be available. I have contacted both General Motors Customer Assistance and the local dealership to request a loaner vehicle. In both cases, I was informed that no loaner was available. I was advised that I could rent a vehicle at my own expense, and that GM would only consider reimbursement up to $44 per day, but only after the recall is completed and only if my case is deemed eligible upon review. This reimbursement policy—requiring me to first pay out-of-pocket without guarantee of repayment—has placed significant undue hardship, financial burden, and emotional stress on me and my family. This situation is especially frustrating considering the vehicle: Remains under GM’s lifetime powertrain warranty; Has been completely unusable for 59 days without replacement; Has left me with no reliable means of transportation, and Involves a known defect acknowledged by GM, yet with no definitive timeline for resolution. As a result, I am suffering direct and ongoing consequences, including: Out-of-pocket transportation costs; Disruption to daily life and mounting stress th
Engine has had recall and still no remedy for it. Paint is chipping off and back locks stopped workingp
I was driving and entering the highway the truck lost power and acceleration was very slow, the engine fan runs 100% of the time, the check engine light comes on.
While driving on the freeway, my truck suddenly experienced a severe and unexpected downshift into first gear at highway speeds. Dashboard warning lights immediately illuminated, indicating multiple system faults. I was able to safely pull over and shift the vehicle into park. However, after doing so, the truck completely refused to engage drive or any other gear. This abrupt and uncommanded downshift posed a serious safety risk, not only to myself but to other drivers, due to the potential for loss of vehicle control. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene. It has now been at the dealership for over two and a half months, with no clear timeline for repair or resolution. This incident raises major concerns about the reliability and safety of the transmission system, particularly under high-speed conditions.
The dealer is telling me there is a faulty engine coolant, flow control valve on this vehicle and multiple other people are having the same issue. The part is on backorder and takes months to arrive. They are telling me I can drive the vehicle, but it becomes a safety issue because the engine thinks it is overheating And goes into reduced acceleration mode, which can impact safely driving the vehicle. Pulling out in traffic and not being able to accelerate can be extremely dangerous.
Tailgate automatically opens while driving or in park tailgate fell down on its own and hit garage door causing a scratch scrape of paint vehicle only has 46000 miles this part should not have gone bad already and why was this year not on the recall should not have to pay for part and labor on a 3 yr old truck bad business... Onstar module went bad GMC truck only 3 yrs old should not have to pay for part and labor and installation on a new module this failure should be covered by gm as it there fualty part on a new vehicle bad business
The coolant control valve is defective and the part is on back order with GM and dealer can’t tell me when part will be available because General Motors doesn’t know. Dealer has had my vehicle for three weeks and because of GM can’t tell me anything new.
GMC has failed to offer a solution to this major engine defect. In talking to two dealerships they are unable to perform any tests at this time that would in fact identify the engine as defective. We hear a knocking lifter but GMC has not acted in a timely manner I called the GMC line (Reggie) and was told there is no remedy and no known information as to when a remedy will be available. I even told one dealership that GMC had backed out of changing the oil viscosity because it had made problems worse.
While driving on the highway at 75mph, the engine stopped responding to the cruise control speed it was set to. The vehicle started to slowly lose speed and the shifting was not normal causing the engine to rev from below 2000 RPMs to about 3500 RPMs, at this point the engine stopped producing power, the transmission was shifted to Neutral by itself, and the check engine light illuminated. While I was able to move to the shoulder and put my hazard lights on, this could've caused an accident in a more congested area. No one was harmed or any accidents occurred. The truck would no longer start, at this point GMC ONStar was called and they provided a tow truck to the nearest GMC dealership. While waiting for the tow truck, I decided to read the codes for the check engine light, P0016 and P0011 codes were populated. The codes were provided to the dealership. The dealership has since then confirmed the engine is seized and a new one will need to be installed. Model of the engine is the GM 6.2L, which currently has an open recall against it for the crankshaft manufacturing defects.

Control Valve Engine Coolant which is a well known issue with back orders taking months for the part and GMC not acknowledging responsibility and having loyal customers pay out of pocket.
Truck has failed coolant control valve. Unable to get replacement part. Truck is still under factory 3 yr 36,000 mile warranty. Truck has been in the shop but was not advised not to drive vehicle. Have had multiple instances where cooling fan is stuck on nigh and get reduced engine power message limiting power while driving. My engine developed a tapping sound about 10,000 miles into owning it. Wasn’t throwing any codes and it wasn’t extremely noticeable. I have been a mechanic for 20 years and knew something was wrong. Brought it to the dealership. They refused to investigate further due to no codes being on the computer fast-forward to 74000 miles on the vehicle. The engine locks up and leaves me stranded six hours away from home. Yes, the oil was changed religiously throughout the engine’s life, and all service was done through the dealership. I went back and forth with GM for weeks and they still refused to replace the engine on their dime. I was forced to come out of pocket 13000 dollars to replace the engine. Due to the warranty being out by 14000 miles. GM COULDN’T EVEN TELL ME WHY IT EXPLODED AND COULD NOT ASSURE ME THAT THE SAME ISSUE WOULD NOT HAPPEN TO MY REPLACEMENT ENGINE. 2nd engine started to DO THE SAME THING AFTER 8000 MILES AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED AT THE DEALERSHIP. THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THERE WAS NO CODES. NOW I HAVE 30,000 MILES ON THE SECOND ENGINE AND I KNOW WITHIN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS IT’S GOING TO DO THE SAME EXACT THING BY THE WAY IT’S RUNNING. I’m disgusted. GM has personally put me in excessive financial strain and caused me serious anxiety. And now I’m driving around a ticking time bomb with no resolution.
The engine gave out without warning while driving on the highway at 70 miles per hour on April 11th 2025. Upon towing the vehicle to the local GM dealership, I was told the motor had blown and needed a full replacement. One week after, the recall comes out. I bought the truck used in 2023. I called the dealership I originally bought the truck from to ask about any past problems and was told this same incident happened to the original owner of the vehicle before it hit five thousand miles.
Complete transmission failure without warning, resulting in loss of power. Vehicle has been maintained meticulously by the book. There were no warning lights or CEL before or during failure.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
