Front grill deflector detached from vehicle when traveling on highway. This is a recall repair for the same issue. There were no warning lamps.
Following engine replacement per NHTSA for 6.2l GMC engine. I am submitting a safety complaint regarding my 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali (refresh body style). The vehicle has experienced repeated failures of driver-assist features and safety system warnings, including: Dash messages: “Lane Keeping Assist System Unavailable” and “Service Safety Restraint System.” When the fault occurs, driver-assist features including Adaptive Cruise Control become inoperative. The issue has recurred multiple times, including after repairs. After one event, the truck sat parked approximately 10 days and the battery discharged to failure and required replacement. A dealership visit documented DTC U3000 (“Internal Electronic Failure”) in the front view camera module. The dealer replaced/programmed/calibrated the front camera on 02/09/2026 at approximately 58,405 miles (invoice/RO #285795). The symptoms have recurred despite prior resets and this repair. I am concerned about loss of driver-assist functions while driving and the presence of a safety restraint system warning. Please investigate whether there is a defect related to the front camera/driver-assist systems and/or electrical module behavior that can cause repeat faults and battery drain on this model.
Coolant control valve failed, truck cannot be driven due to overheating, Dealer has said due the national backorder, it could be 2 months before they receive the replacement part. There is a significant national backorder on the engine coolant flow control valve for 2020–2025 GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado trucks equipped with the 3.0L Duramax (LM2/LZ0) diesel engine. Many owners are reporting wait times of several weeks to months, with some vehicles sitting in repair shops for over 70 days.
L87 Catastrophic Engine Failure on second engine after 6300 miles. This is the second issue with the 6.2L engine in my Sierra 1500. The first engine passed the L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion field action and then suffered Catastrophic Engine Failure a month later. The replacement engine procedure took over 3 weeks to perform and no rental or loaner vehicle was provided by GM or the servicing dealership. The vehicle is currently in the service department at another dealership awaiting the 2nd engine replacement, but it has been over 2 weeks since the engine failure. This servicing dealer has provided a vehicle to use. This has been a very frustrating ordeal and I feel that resell and value of this vehicle has been compromised and GM has done nothing to offset this with me.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). The contact had parked the vehicle in a parking space when the engine seized. No warning lights illuminated. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the fuel system control module had failed. The contact was informed that the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
Transmission locked up after leaving a stop sign. Rear wheels locked and vehicle was inoperable. Dealership repaired with replacement transmission valve body parts under warranty.
The vehicle is subject to Safety Recall N252494001 (NHTSA Campaign 25V-274) due to manufacturing defects in the engine crankshaft and connecting rod bearings. • Component/System Failed: The 6.2L V8 (L87) engine crankshaft and connecting rod assembly. The engine is available for inspection upon request. • Safety Risk: The defect can cause catastrophic engine damage and sudden loss of propulsion while driving, significantly increasing the risk of a crash. • Dealer/Manufacturer Confirmation: The problem was confirmed via the issuance of Safety Recall N252494001. A dealership inspection was performed previously as part of the recall. • Warning Signs/Symptoms: Common symptoms include engine knocking, check engine lights, and hesitation before sudden failure. The Issue with the Remedy: Federal law (49 U.S.C. § 30120) requires manufacturers to remedy safety defects "without charge". As a permanent safety remedy for this defect, GM has mandated a switch from 0W-20 to 0W-40 (dexosR) oil for the life of the engine to prevent bearing failure. However, the dealership and manufacturer are refusing to provide this mandated safety spec change without an ongoing $85 surcharge per oil change. While they performed the initial "inspection" oil change for free, they are now using the recall-mandated spec change to create a financial burden on the consumer. Because 0W-40 is now the mandatory factory requirement to prevent the safety defect, charging a premium for it constitutes a failure to provi

Transmission has failed twice in 2023, dealer carried out repairs but still the Transmission started shuddering after every 1000 miles, truck has been in service centre for almost 12 times for the repeated issue but no permanent solution, after my bumper to bumper warranty got over in 2025 September again service Transmission sign appeared and got my valve body replaced on January. after a month on feb the same message appeared again to service transmission and they refused to cover the issue in warranty and asked me to pay almost 7k dollors to get it repaired.
While driving I get a reduced acceleration warning on my dash cluster, drastically reducing horse power. My check engine light came on. This has happened before. I checked the code and it was a P1098 code. After researching I found out it was the Engine coolant control valve. My fan is constantly running. This issue is ongoing. This seems to be a common occurrence with my vehicle year.
My GM Dealership completed the GM 6.2 Engine Inspection and recommended Oil Replacement as part of the 6.2 Engine Recall. Roughly 5,000 miles after this service, the engine failed. I attempted to accelerate from 45-65 miles per hour while getting on the highway, and the engine seized up. I was able to coast/steer the vehicle to the side of the road. The vehicle's starter could not crank the engine. I had the vehicle towed to the shop where the dealership confirmed the engine had seized. The dealership and GM replaced the engine under a warranty repair. I am making you aware of this situation, as the manufacturers suggested solution to the engine issue (The Change in Oil Type, Filter and Cap) did not prevent the engine from failing.
Engine recall 6.2 L-87 , after Pico scoop Test, which my truck passed, its using 2 plus quarts of oil per 1000 miles, the dealer has it and is saying they can find nothing wrong per the gm tech that is telling them to check this and that. Ok, oil is going somewhere, I want the motor replaced , they want to continue the oil consumption test, my thing is wasting my time to continue driving and bring back to it back for a low oil reading, Its not gonna fix its self by driving it. I understand gm wants to figure out why, but it should not be at customers time , replace the motor all ready, something is wrong. the first 1000 miles after a oil change and they put die in the oil to check for leaks. When They check the oil level friday 02/06/26 the oil did not read on the dip stick.
The front forward-facing camera module has failed, causing cruise control and driver-assistance features to become inoperative. Dealer diagnosis indicates the front camera must be replaced and recalibrated in order to restore cruise control and safety systems. This failure disables cruise control and driver-assist features that were standard equipment on the vehicle at purchase, resulting in a sudden loss of functionality while driving. The dealer has provided a repair estimate of approximately $1,150, including parts, labor, and required calibration, at owner expense. Based on similar reports from other owners, this appears to be a recurring issue affecting this model year.
54k miles. Crankshaft failure. Truck shut off and put in neutral while driving with no codes on dash. Got a text saying to service engine and transmission immediately. On a side note, it is bullshit that you can't put the truck in neutral to get it off the road. The dealership is also doing a great job covering it and offering a loaner.
Upper grille deflector flew off vehicle while operating. No previous damage, just flew off. There is the same issue with my make and model that gmc issued a recall for but it is not appearing for my VIN
To start off my truck has been to the dealership multiple time for the camera. After third time in the shop they fixed that issue. Then the infotainment started acting up after about 4 times in the shop it was fixed. They gave me the prescribed fix for the engine recall in november. Engine passed the test. Then 3 weeks ago the engine siezed up from the crank and bearings on the interstate doing 70 pulling a trailer in traffic. Leaveing me and my dad in the middle of the interstate. I had to have it towed 2 hours to my house. After the prescribed engine fix. They replaced the motor in 3 days. Great right? No they did not test drive long enough. Or they would have felt the shudder that developed after the new engine went in. It is now about to go back to the shop. Because of the shudder at low rpm and im haveing electrical issues again as well . My remote start also stopped working after the engine replacement.
1) Component/System & Availability for Inspection Transmission control system. When shifting into reverse, the CHECK ENGINE lamp flashed and a “Transmission Service” warning appeared. Dealer retrieved DTC P07B4 and documented: “DIAGNOSIS OF ENGINE/CHECK ENGINE LAMP - CUSTOMER STATES WHEN SHIFTING IN REVERSE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON FLASHING AND WARNING MESSAGE ON FOR TRANSMISSION SERVICE. CHECK AND ADVISE. NOTE: CUSTOMER DOES NOT FEEL ANY ISSUE WHEN DRIVING. SAVI CODE P07B4.” The component remains installed and is available for inspection upon request. 2) Safety Risk A transmission control malfunction can lead to unpredictable shifting or loss of propulsion, posing risk during reversing, crossing traffic, or merging. 3) Reproduced/Confirmed by Dealer? Yes. Dealer confirmed the condition and stored code P07B4 consistent with my report. 4) Inspected by Others? Inspected by an authorized GM dealer. No inspections by police/insurance/others. 5) Warning Lamps/Messages & Onset Yes. The CHECK ENGINE lamp began flashing immediately when shifting into reverse, with a “Transmission Service” message. I did not feel drivability issues at that moment. Addendum — Link to GM Safety Recall N242454440 GM Safety Recall N242454440 addresses excess wear of a transmission control valve that degrades hydraulic pressure, causes harsh shifting, and—rarely—momentary rear‑wheel lock‑up during a downshift. The remedy is a TCM software update that monitors valve performance and detects wear ~10,000 mi
I was driving my 2022 gmc Sierra with the 6.2 engine 10 speed transmission and I was at at a red light, the light turned green and I went to go and I could feel my rear wheels lock up and then it released went into limp mode was not shifting gears correctly and I had no reverse
I purchased my vehicle in June 2025. In January of 2026 the vehicle would sometimes shut down at red lights, requiring me to restart. No engine codes would pop up. On Jan. 16th, 2026, I exited my vehicle and heard a “cow bell clunking” coming from the engine area. I scheduled a service, and I was informed that the issue was part of the GM recall for 6.2L engines. This concerned me, because my vehicle had already had the “remedy” for the recall (changing engine oil type) prior to me purchasing it Certified Pre-Owned, and the engine still failed. The dealer I brought the truck to did a full engine (and appropriate parts) replacement as part of the open recall.
After i had the car inspected per thier recall on potential engines issues, the car passed and was told no issues. 6 months later driving on highway with family during rush hour and suffered complete engine failure going 70 mph. Lucky not to have been hit from behind. scary to be on highway like that. It was freezing outside. Dont understand being told car is fine and then this happens.
On November 16, while driving on the highway, my GMC vehicle suddenly lost engine power without warning. I was forced to stop in traffic, creating a dangerous situation and putting my life at risk. The vehicle required towing and has remained at the dealership since that date. The dealership determined that the engine requires replacement. Repairs have been significantly delayed, including an incorrectly ordered replacement engine, and the vehicle remains out of service more than two months later. This defect caused a sudden loss of power while driving and presents a serious safety concern. After the incident, I contacted the dealership immediately. Diagnostic appointments were scheduled and then canceled by the dealership twice, which delayed inspection and repair. I was only able to leave the vehicle at the dealership on December 12 due to these delays.
My vehicle stop running as I approached a traffic signal and failed to restart, it happened at a heavy traffic intersection during morning commute,I had the vehicle towed to Dealership that same day (01-22-2026). Later that evening the dealership called to inform me that the motor was blown and had ordered a new one.the mileage is approximately 39,285.
My TAILGATE kept opening randomly and ENGINE WAS MAKING CLUNKING SOUND initially. Lost many tools on the highway once when it opened. Dealership told me my truck is not covered under a recall for both issues, even though other similar vehicles are. I refused to pay anything to have it fixed. They claimed my truck “wasn’t built in the factory that has recalls”. A month later the STARTER AND BATTERY burned up when I started up the truck, something locked up it sounded like. Eventually it started but didn’t sound right. A few days later the engine finally blew up. I paid out of pocket for everything for that trip. It’s currently back at the dealer being repaired with a new engine for the recall but GMC refuses to pay for the initial clunking/starter/battery and the tailgate issues. I’ve encored so many charges with tows and rentals from all these issues. I would like full reimbursement for everything.
Onstar module is not working
I was driving on the interstate when the hood deflector blew off suddenly and unexpectedly damaging my hood and hitting the windshield. This vehicle was recalled for this part defect last year and the fix was applied by the dealer. It appears that some sort of adhesive was applied to the retainers but they still ultimately failed. This was a very dangerous situation that could have ultimately caused an accident. I am reporting this so that the approved repair can be reviewed. This part should have been replaced, not simply placing adhesive on the defective part. The past safety recall # was N242490120.
Driving down the road, the radio volume will randomly rapidly increase to full volume. There is no way to turn the volume down. This is very startlingly and can lead to an accident due to the driver panicking and trying to turn off the radio or turn the volume down. It has happened approximately 5 times since I have owned the vehicle. Thie first time was when the vehicle was only a few months old. It happens so infrequently that it cannot be reproduced. It has not been confirmed nor inspected by a dealer. There is no warning as to when it might happen, nor any similar circumstances when it happens. The only solution I have found is to stop, turn off the vehicle and open the door for a minute or two, which is difficult to do in traffic.
The front chrome grille deflector came off 9-10 months after the dealership inspected it.
My telematics onstar unit went bad at 37,200 miles. No onstar, no SOS, no hands free driving, etc. I paid roughly 3k for the extended subscription servies for three years. Like many others who have this problem, dealer/GM will not replace the faulty unit even though I still had time left on my on my subscription. Apparantly its a common problem.
Setting in a parking lot and the tailgate fell open and hit another car. The tailgate was closed and has fell open 3 more times while the vehicle is in park and one time it was powered off.
2022 GMC AT4 w/ 6.2L V8 was my retirement gift to myself at a cost of $70k. I have had 2(two) engine failures! Of course they failed in the middle of rush hour traffic when no one wants to be kind. Since the wheels will NOT rotate once the failure has occurred, I was stuck in middle of traffic for 2 hours awaiting a tow truck. Not even 3k miles after the 2nd engine failure I was told by the dealership that I now need a transmission replacement. As a loyal GM customer, GM has to do better.
Complete engine failure, at 57,000 miles, was driving approximately 75 mph on the I-15 in Utah outside of St. George, and the left lane, engine turned off, was able to pull safely in a shoulder in a canyon with my family, my wife, my kids [XXX] and [XXX] old. Vehicle was towed that evening at 7 PM to the dealership, where it was diagnosed with completed engine failure. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Just after merging from I-65 North to 264 East at 65 mph in Louisville KY on November 14th, the display indicated to "press start" and the engine stalled. I was only able to get the vehicle about 3 inches off of the left side of the yellow line before running out of inertia. I was stuck there for 2 hours while waiting for a tow truck. The first truck could not lift my vehicle because with the engine off, the electric shifter would not move out of park. A second tow truck was called with dolly's and then a 3rd tow truck was required to block traffic. During this 2 hour period several cars swerved left of the yellow line and I was in fear for my life. The traffic was so heavy that I was trapped between the concrete median wall and the left lane. I called 911 to ask for a safety vehicle to shield me from traffic, but they never arrived as promised.
I had a lifter fail which is a well known problem for these GM engines. The lifter caused the cam shaft to be damaged because of the lobes being shaved off. Now I’m being told that it will be over $10,000 fix a 3 year old truck.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V060000 (Structure), but the failure occurred. The contact stated that while driving at 65 MPH, the top deflector shield detached from the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 13,100.
Lost brakes and couldn’t stop the truck
70mph with cruise control on, truck shifted from drive to neutral uncomanded. There were no indications of the issue before it happened. The dealer has the truck and I havent heard back from them yet. From my limited research, this is a common problem for these trucks.
Driving home with kids from snowboarding and check engine light comes on. “Power reduced, drive carefully” well I’m in 4 wheel drive the roads aren’t great and I have my kids in the truck. We were safe. Now? I am nearly getting ran off the road there aren’t any exits from the freeway. Kids are terrified. Able to limp home all the while with crying kids. Hook up scanner and it’s p1098. A little research tells me it’s a coolant control valve. Which is known problem from gmc so much so that the company issued an extended warranty to cover. No recall? No just let people experience this event across the country in a truck that is billed as safe and reliable by the company that sells them. This is a complete joke. The part is on national backorder because the problem is so prevalent. So now I have a truck that is inoperable. 52k miles and it’s a 2022. Someone needs to investigate this company as soon as possible.
Radiator is leaking where plastic meets metal. Leaking coolant at upper corner driver side. This is crazy for a 70k truck. It is a known problem. Dealer refused to submit a claim to GM. I am seeing people get theses replaced. It has been an issue since coolant control Valve was replaced.
Tailgate opened on its own while driving, creating a safety hazard where items inside could have fallen out. The tailgate was secured prior to driving.
The windshield defroster and heater blower speed reduces and/or shuts off shortly after accelerating to highway range speeds. Blowing snow from Alaska roads will melt and refreeze on the windshield reducing visibility creating a safety hazard. The truck has not been successfully repaired after multiple and lengthy attempts. The heated steering wheel also malfunctions intermittently. The blower motor does seem to come back up to speed when vehicle speed is reduced to city speeds but is intermittent also.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH, the check engine and several other warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle almost stalled and then lunged forward. The vehicle was driven back to the residence, and a local dealer was contacted. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) by the same dealer. The contact stated that the dealer had tested the engine and added thicker viscosity oil. The contact related the failure to the recall work. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.
1.)When driving the vehicle it will randomly shutoff while driving with loss of brakes and steering until it will randomly turn back on.The vehicle experiences intermittent electronic and drivability malfunctions. The issue appears to involve one or more vehicle control modules and/or electronic systems. At times, warning lights and system messages appear, and vehicle performance is affected. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. 2.)These failures create a serious safety risk because they occur without warning while driving. The vehicle may lose normal functionality, display multiple warnings, or behave unpredictably. If this occurs in traffic, at speed, or while maneuvering, it could increase the risk of a crash or leave the vehicle stranded in an unsafe location. Furthermore on 3 separate circumstances I came close to crashing the vehicle putting at risk lives in the vehicle and outside. 3.)The problem is intermittent and has been difficult to reproduce on demand. I have taken the truck to the dealership multiple times. The dealership has stated that because the issue is not actively occurring when they have the vehicle, they have been unable to duplicate the concern and have instructed me to continue driving it until the issue happens again. Despite this, the problem continues to return during normal use. 4.)The vehicle has been inspected by the authorized dealership on multiple occasions. To my knowledge, it has not been inspected directly by the manufactu
Transmission self destructed at 68,000 miles. Had to have it replaced at GMC dealership at a cost of over $7,000. GMC did not offer any coverage of the cost.
Purchased this vehicle used with having 34k miles. Currently has 37k. Powertrain is still under warranty. I will be taking it in to have looked at. The truck has already been in for rear main seal failure and the dealership failed to investigate the transmission issue as far as I know. The issue is with the transmission and shifting, specifically going into second gear. While going into second gear the truck feels like it is in neutral for a couple seconds then ultimately gets its 2nd gear. This appears to only happen after the truck has been sitting off for some time. Between a few hours and overnight. The biggest concern for me was when this happened as I pulled out into the road and was left without propulsion for a brief moment with oncoming traffic. If driving in snow I feel like once the gear grabs, would likely cause a spin-out in front of traffic. This is a serious safety concern. There are no warning lamps or messages on the dash for this issue. This is a 2022 GMC Sierra Limited Elevation crew cab 2.7L V4 with turbo.
There was engine failure whereby the pushrods were ticking extremely hard. After towing the vehicle to the repair shop, it was determined that a new engine would be needed. The cost for repair was $11,500.00 dollars. The original engine has approximately 75,000 miles.
My 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Limited (6.2L L87) had an engine recall performed by an authorized GMC dealer (Paul Masse Buick GMC) in November 2025. Prior to the recall service, the vehicle had no check-engine lights, no drivability issues, and no knock-related symptoms. Immediately after picking up the vehicle from the recall service, the check-engine light illuminated within seconds of leaving the dealership parking lot. I returned the vehicle immediately. The dealer diagnosed a failed knock sensor and replaced it at my expense. There were no prior warning signs or symptoms before the recall visit. General Motors declined responsibility, classifying the issue as an out-of-warranty repair and confirming only that the recall procedure was followed. GM did not evaluate whether dealer handling, component disturbance, or recall-related activity contributed to the immediate failure. I am submitting this complaint because the failure occurred directly after recall service, suggesting a possible recall-adjacent issue or unintended consequence of recall procedures, and because GM declined to investigate causation beyond procedural compliance.
My truck went into "limp" mode and had very little power. It was towed to the dealership where they diagnosed the issue as a bad solenoid causing the engine misfires. The solenoid was replaced, but the issue was not fixed. Now the dealership is stating the engine has bent lifters and the repairs will not be covered under the ongoing massive engine recall. The vehicle had the pico test on 9/17 and it "passed", but less than 3k miles later and the engine failed. This is a clear safety issue and well known by NHTSA and GM. Now I'm negotiating with the dealership to cover repairs and my truck has been gone nearly a month.
Tailgate unlatched by itself, first time I was connected to a trailer and it damaged the tailgate. Multiple (4+) times afterwards while being parked in garage tailgate opens by itself all during the same day could not get this to stop. Called dealership today for appointment where they could get me in the shop in the middle of the week, but they told me that this issue is known but not covered under my VIN.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle independently accelerated. The contact stated that the failure had occurred while driving approximately 60 MPH with the cruise control engaged and set at manual control and not adaptive cruise control. The contact stated that after manually disengaging the cruise control and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as intended, and the vehicle unintendedly accelerated. The contact stated that the vehicle nearly crashed into the rear of another vehicle due to the failure. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, but the vehicle could not be diagnosed because no DTC was retrieved. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure, and the contact filed a complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 33,000.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
