Driving our BEV Mach E at a normal speed, we got an error code, "Pull to the side of the road safely / stop safely" on our instrument display. The car turned itself off, and we had to slowly coast to the side of the road, which caused a lot of potential harm with other drivers not expecting our sudden course change - We activated our hazards, though. After cycling the car on/off, we were able to finish our drive home (about 8 more miles) with no further error codes. But this completely disabled the car and was extremely dangerous. If this had happened on the freeway or at night, and/or the vehicle would not have been able to be restarted, this would have been EXTREMELY DANGEROUS and is UNACCEPTABLE. Ford must be responsible for this, and must take action. Ford must fix the high voltage junction box, before someone is killed by this poor design. Thank you for taking the time to look at this note. This was VERY scary, and VERY dangerous.

Car would not move- "Stop Safely Now" error. Had to get it towed.
Car did not start - was in local grocery parking lot- needed to be towed to dealership.
On May 20, 2022, for the second time in a month my 2021 California 1 Mach e has had a catastrophic failure. It is less than a year old with 21,000mi. First time (April 20, 2022) I pulled out onto road after fast charging. Tonight, I started driving out of parking space after shopping. Emergency bells go off, all kinds of alerts and the car dies. You cannot get the gear cluster to turn...at all. Car will not turn off either. If this happens on a highway, it could be life endangering. First time it happened I was in Charlotte and Ford Dealer (Capital Ford) said it was 12v battery issue. Said they fixed it. I took it in to Palmetto Ford in Charleston to have it investigated further and they said it was fixed. That was two weeks ago. Now it's happened again. In second incident on May 20, I called for towing. As truck showed up, my car started normally (i had tried several other times before). I am still taking into Palnetto Ford Dealer. The Ford Motor Company needs to fix this before someone is killed. Documenting this for myself and others. This is happening to other Mustang Mach E...because I have seen the issue written about in online forums. The problem onset is sudden and catastrophic, meaning the car just dies. First time I was on a busy road traveling 30mph and managed to roll into a parking lot. Had their been traffic I could have been hit. Second time, I was in a parking lot traveling 5 mph and blocked an entire lane for 10min. To emphasize: two dealers looked at vehicle
While parking in a garage the vehicle unexpectedly accelerated and ran into a wall. Anyone in or around the car may have been seriously ignored. The issues has happened twice but can not be reproduced by me. There we no indicators that the event was about to take place There is a recall for this on the vehicle type but not for the date of my manufacturing.
Travelling from WI to NC using Electrify America DC fast chargers along the way. While in NC, got Stop Safely Now alert on screen and had to immediately pull over and stop where there was no shoulder. Could not move vehicle in any way after this. Could not put it in N, could not put it in Emergency Tow Mode. Had to wait 8 hours for tow with proper equipment. Issue was caused by failure of HVBJB - High Voltage Battery Junction Box which needed to be replaced.
Bricked Mach E Extended Range with 10K miles and recently completed the roof and windscreen recall the week prior. Went to brunch and then came out to a car that would not start. Warning of "Stop Safely Now" even though the vehicle was driven to the location and then sat for 2 hours and was currently parked and still gave us this message. Low voltage (12 Volt) came in slightly low at 12.6 VDC. Attempted two jumps from another vehicle and a higher amperage tow truck with no change in error code nor would the vehicle "start". We resulted in doing a tow to a dealership for potential repair. Dealership has had it now for going on the third week. They are citing the replacement of the battery bus where the Low Voltage 12 VDC interfaces with the brains and main battery system. This has been cited before in the Mustang Mach E blogs. Replacement part is on hand but the dealership has a specialist being flown in to remedy the replacement part installation. Read in Mach E forums of similar problems where the battery became low and the vehicle was then disabled from engaging the drivetrain. Overall problem gave us pause on ownership and we will qualify for the Lemon Law buyback for CA if it comes to that. Looking to see if repairs will be complete this week.
After charging at Electrify America using DC Fast Charger, car windows stopped working, then safety alerts started flashing "Charge State Error" and "Stop safely now!" alerts. Car would not go forward but would go in Neutral some tries. Flatbed was able to load car and haul to closest dealer. Tech said High Voltage Junction Box went bad and needed to be replaced. 3 weeks later, part is replaced but windows don't work. Dealer says it will be 2 more weeks before windows can be repaired.
Vehicle would not start after a brief stop, with a "Stop Safely Now" error. Vehicle could not be shifted out of Park, and could only be shifted into Neutral using the Emergency Tow Mode. Vehicle was towed to nearest Ford dealer, and the High-Voltage Battery Junction Box (HVBJB) failed and required replacement. This is a known issue that has affected many similar vehicles of the same make, model, and year.
There are two safety recalls for many Mach-Es including mine for the windshield and glass roof. Many owners are finding that their Ford dealer is refusing to do the recall work. I first attempted to get mine done in November 2021. My dealer says they still can't do the work. I have called 5 other dealers in the Denver area and I finally got on the waitlist for one dealer. The other dealers say they are unable to do the recall. I have talked to owners in other parts of the country that are experiencing the same refusal by their dealer.
I received a “Stop Safely Now” message upon returning to my vehicle at the end of a work day. The vehicle would not shift into drive, but accessory power did work. It was late at night and in a hospital parking structure, I was forced to leave the vehicle there overnight. After some unsuccessful troubleshooting the next day, I had to call a tow truck and have the vehicle brought to a dealer for repair. It was diagnosed with a faulty BECM (Battery Energy Control Module). After repair, I have not yet seen a repeat occurred the issue.
During a normal maintenance service appointment car had a Stop Safely Now error message appear. Diagnosis was a bad High Voltage Battery Junction Box and BECM. With were replaced and car has been fine since then
Stop Safely Now, HVJBC and BECM failure, car wouldn't shift or move.
Second time this has happened. A message will pop up saying “please stop safely now” once you stop you can not get it out of park. If your driving you are stuck wherever you are. I was stranded the first time with no heat in 20 degree weather. They fixed it after having it for a month then it just happened again today in 80 degree weather with my kids in the car. This has happened to multiple other people as well.
Vehicle reported an electrical issue and would not let me take the vehicle out of park. Had to be towed to a local Ford Service Center. Have heard of similar issues from other owners.
I was stranded in a parking lot in the evening when my car wouldn't start. The vehicle displayed a "STOP SAFELY NOW" message and I couldn't get the car to move on its own. This happened on April 13, 2022. My safety was at risk because I was in a parking lot at night and unable to engage my car. I had to call and wait for a tow truck. The Ford dealership, in consultation with Ford engineers, confirmed that it was due to a faulty High Voltage Battery Junction Box (HVBJB) and it had to be replaced. With the faulty HVBJB, the car was undrivable. The HVBJB was inspected by Ford personnel and determined to be faulty. It was replaced under warranty. There were no other messages or warnings before my car failed to start. No prior symptoms. I drove normally to a store, parked the car, and when I returned to my car it failed to start.
I have been attempting to get two recalls done since November of 2021: NHTSA recall Numbers 21V711 and 21V712. I have called several ford dealers (O'Meara Ford, Larry Miller Ford Lakewood, Groove Ford and Schomp Ford) and no one will either schedule the repair or they will schedule it and then cancel it on the day of the incident. I've been told either ford won't pay enough to get the recall done (Approx. $350 for labor and not being clear on covering the cost of a broken panoramic roof) so the glass subcontractors won't take the job due to liability concerns or that the parts needed, (spare panoramic roof and windshield) in case the glass breaks during removal, have been on backorder so they can't (and won't order) the parts. I have become extremely concerned as the recall notice notes: "INADEQUATE URETHANE ADHESION OF THE PANORAMIC ROOF GLASS MAY RESULT IN INCREASED WIND NOISE, WATER LEAKS, AND OR THE ROOF GLASS MAY LOOSEN AND BECOME DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE, CREATING A ROAD HAZARD AND INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH." So now I'm driving a vehicle for six months where my roof could come off, creating a potential hazard for me and the public driving behind, not to mention the potential damage from leaks could cause to the interior of my vehicle. It seems that neither Ford nor the dealers are taking this issue seriously in the Denver Metro area.
At around 600 miles my vehicle displayed "high voltage battery warning" and "powertrain malfunction" dashboard warning lights. Each light had an associated description that indicated the vehicle's power could fail at any time. This is a 1st model year all electric vehicle. The fact this occurred within 1k miles of ownership is concerning. I took it to a local Ford dealer, ultimately they replaced the high voltage battery junction box and battery electronic control module.
I was driving 70 mph on Hwy 99 in California about 35 miles north of Bakersfield when the car suddenly lost all power. A warning message appeared on the dash "stop safely now." I was able to coast over to the side of the road (there really wasn't much of a shoulder). It was extremely unsafe. The car would not move out of gear, would not start, etc. The car has 1550 miles on the odometer. I waited 1.5 hours for a tow truck to take the car to a Ford dealer. I was 4 hours from home. I am a 71 year old widow. I was traveling alone with my small dog. It was very frightening. The car has been at the dealership for a week. They have no idea what the problem is. The dealer is working with "a Ford engineer" to diagnose the problem. The Mustang Mach-E owners' forums are FILLED with complaints from other owners who are experiencing the exact same problem with this car.
The vehicle started saying a door was ajar without indicating which one. Sometimes we would get an intruder alert while the car was plugged in at work but nothing was open or unlocked. Occasionally the passenger door would open on its own after turning off the car. Now we get a door fault alert after starting the car. We have contacted a local dealer as well as our purchasing dealer but both indicate. Month before they can see the car due to lack of qualified techs. Today, 4/26/2022 the passenger door opened on its own while at highway speed. Only the driver was in the car. The driver had to reach over to rematch the door. A dealer appointment was set two weeks prior for 5/12/2022.
While driving around a curve, my car lost all power and went completely dark. I didn't have brakes, steering, lights or any other functions. My car was completely bricked. This happened before daylight and I didn't have emergency flashers to notify other drivers I was stopped on the side of the road. After waiting for 6 hours for a tow truck, I went and tried to find the problem myself. I found a loose connection. It was the main power feed supplying the fuse box. Once I tightened it up, I was able to start and drive the car. I've attached a picture of the connection I tightened.
Was driving 55+ mph on freeway, was told by the car to 'stop safely' Had no accelleration, no power steering, came to a stop at a stop sign, could not shift to neutral to move it.
The High Volt Battery (HVB) would have a fault in charging sporadically. When this happens, the vehicle can't start. All the alerts for safety features come on and says that it's in accessory mode only. It's no longer in my possession for inspection. It was approved for lemon law buy back and is now owned by Ford Motor Company. They've recognized that the 12v battery drains dead when this happens and they were attempting to replace the ECM module, Battery Control Harness, and the HVB junction box to remedy the issue. My safety was put at risk in terms of when this happened. It was between -25 to -40 when this was occurring and the heat doesn't come on in accessory mode. There was the possibility of frostbite within 5-10 minutes if I didn't seek warm shelter. The problem was reproduced by the dealership where purchased [they have all the documentation on file] as well as multiple people [more than 50+] in other states having the same problems reproduced on their Ford Mach-e vehicles as well at macheforum.com. The vehicle and components were inspected and ultimately bought back the vehicle by the manufacturer. No warnings lamps, messages, or other symptoms appear prior to the failure. They first appear when the vehicle 'decides' to not charge anymore. Since Ford has yet to announce any recalls / notices because of the increasing amount of people having the same issue. I wanted to inform NHTSA because it's just a matter of time before someone does have a risk event because of th
Drove my fully charged Mustang Mach E(MME) from TN to my daughter's school and to a local dealership to have some aftermarket wheels/tires installed (20 miles in total). Upon parking the vehicle in their service lane, I turned the vehicle off and handed them the keys. They get in the vehicle and try to turn it on and tell me "the vehicle won't turn on". I get in the vehicle myself and sure enough, the main dash display, screen display, transmission lights, etc are not working at all. After 7+ hours of trying to diagnose, there is apparently already a TSB out there for 12v batteries failing and other issues regarding the LVB (low voltage battery). None of these were ever addressed or reported to me. My vehicle is only 1.5 months old with 2k miles on it. The car is broken and completely inoperable at this point. Ford sent a roadside assistance individual (2 hours later) and they physically had to drag the vehicle onto the tow bed because it will not go into neutral or react to anything they did. Ford then tells me it could be weeks before they can even look at it. The car is incapable of moving and I have kids to pick up. I had to call Ford HQ (which takes hours) and they are going to provide me rental reimbursement afterward, but I could be out thousands of dollars out of pocket in the meantime. Why aren't these issues resolved before selling people a vehicle? I could have been stuck on the side of the highway or in traffic or similar with 0 way to move or operate the vehicle.
Was driving home and stoped at a business with no issues. Return to car to operate and car not functioning properly. Getting error light “Stop safely now”. Car will not start with power button, will only go into full accessory power mode. The car cannot be switched from park to anything else. R, N, D not accessible. It seems that a system update was recently pushed to the vehicle.
On 4/1, while entering the FWY @ about 50 mph under moderate accel, big thump (felt like the trans fell out), drivers display cycled thru multiple errors with "stop safely now" repeatedly flashing. Throttle went dead, speed dropped to 35 and steadily decreased. Was able to slowly exit FWY @ next exit, rolled thru light @ bottom of ramp and pulled over to the side of a busy side street. Came to a stop & car would not move. Put in park, cycled on/off several times. Would not come out of park. Tow truck arrived. Found emergency tow function in the main display. Tow driver hooked up front, put rears on dolly & towed to dealer.
The 12V battery drains to the point the car will not boot or go in gear. It spits about 8 error messages at you but none that say low 12V battery. This has now happened 3 times in the last year. This has left me stranded in the cold hundreds of miles from home one of those times. They are now saying that a high voltage junction box and a battery energy control module is required. After waiting 4 months for parts we will see soon I am hoping. Noted in additional details the first time it happened is referenced. Car was parked in my home garage and would not start, displaying "Stop safely now." Vehicle appears to have code P0AA1 Hybrid battery positive contactor - circuit stuck closed. Many other Mach-E vechicles are exhibiting this defective part in the high voltage battery system, which appears to be the Battery Electrical Control Module (BECM). Ford appears to be aware of this issue, and, unconfirmed, has stopped production of the Mach-E to canibalize parts to fix vehicles that fail. However, some are less lucky than me and had their car stop dead while driving on the highway, and Ford should not be waiting for vehicles to stop and strand people before fixing this serious defect. The vehicle displayed "Stop Safely Now" on the instrument panel and would not drive. Required a tow to the dealer, High Voltage Battery removal, replacement of the High Voltage Battery Junction Box, and vehicle reassembly.
As the vehicle was braking to a stop the rear motors began chattering. The vehicle stopped and gave multiple error messages including "Shift System Fault" and "Stop Vehicle Safely." It locked the parking brake and could not be moved. It was stuck in the road and could not be driven or pushed out of traffic. It was a hazard to the occupants and other drivers on the road. There was no indication before this failure occurred. The dealer was able to confirm that the error codes had occurred but could not reproduce the failure and made no specific fixes other than replugging electrical harnesses..
As the vehicle was braking to a stop at a stoplight the rear motors began chattering. The vehicle stopped and gave multiple error messages including "Shift System Fault" and "Stop Vehicle Safely." It locked the parking brake and could not be moved. It was stuck in the middle of a busy intersection on a county highway. It could not be driven or pushed out of traffic until the error cleared. It was a hazard to the occupants and other drivers on the road. 911 was called to get support with traffic. There was no indication before this failure occurred. It will be going in for service in 2 days. This is the second occurrence of the failure on this vehicle, the previous one at 2011 miles.
Found when friends were sitting in the backseat that the seatbelt retractors were not functioning correctly. Upon further investigation, we found that one had a slight tear in it and then she was trying to pull the retractor out and releasing it to get it to cross her chest it ripped right out of the mechanism. I took a look at the other side and noticed that there was some fraying on the seat belt and this too must've been damaged by the mechanism. Both seatbelts are now considered not usable one completely tore out of the mechanism. Opening Ford replace

If any of the passengers are unbuckled and the seat chime is on the car does not have an audible forward collision or pedestrian warning alert sound.
While the blue cruise is enabled in stop and go traffic the car has a electrical malfunction. The car slowed then proceeded to go forward and speed up at an intersection the car stoped in the intersection abruptly would not move and could not shift the car into any gear or neutral. Multiple warnings on dash. First was service select shift next was service advance trac even after turn the car off and trying to turn back on the car was stuck for approximately 5 minutes until the car test itself. While driving on thruway, it began to snow.. One. by one the safety sensors reported failure due to being blocked. Even basic criosese control stopped working. As conditions cleared none of the sensors recovered. I pulled off at an exit to clear any remaining snow that may have been blocking the sensors. The sensors were already clear, yet still reported. being blocked. I pulled into a car wash and. had the car washed and dried to make sure that every sensor was unobstructed. All of the sensors were still in a failure state. Not one sensor recovered. I had to turn off the car and restart to clear the sensor failures. This is a big problem when driving on a long trip. Every time it snows and a sensor fails, I have to exit the thruway and find a place to pull over and restart the car. In instances where roads are wet, cars ahead spray road mud and block the sensors. This happens constantly in upstate NY. Every few miles when the sensors is blocked the car will lose cruise control and most of the safety features. The only way to recover is pull off of the road to restart the car. It happened, several times on 50 mile drive. It's unnerving when it does. When weather conditions are poor, I want to get to my destination safely, without extra driving caused by exiting to restart and merging back on the thruway multiple times. Any other modern vehicle that I have driven will clear a sensor failure when the condition no longer exists, without restarting the car. The Mach-E refuses to

Second time in less than two weeks: Vehicle started making grinding noise, and a warning came up on the screen SHIFT SYSTEM FAULT, service soon. But the car came to a halt a hundred feet later, then would not get in or out of any gear, parking brake could not be released, vehicle could not get into Neutral so not able to push or roll it. I was barely able to get out of an intersection today (Nov 11), and rolled into a parking area on Oct 30 with the same fault. After about a half hour, vehicle could be moved but would show the fault shortly afterwards, locked up. Vehicle was towed on Oct 31 to dealership, they checked fault codes, performed some software updates and test drove 4 miles. They returned the car. Today, same thing happened. Car was at an intersection. Called AAA and still waiting for them to schedule a tow truck (required wheel lift and dolly). Fortunately I was on back roads today but this is a serious problem which would have been much worse on a highway. Car is not drivable. Again, this is the second time in two weeks!
The issue I'm describing is an inherent design flaw. This has not been discussed with third parties. The shift knob on this vehicle is a rotary knob with a configuration of PRND. The knob does not have positive stops in any direction and is only interlocked from moving out of park when the vehicle is not on. What this means: To enter reverse from park: Turn knob one stop clockwise. To enter reverse from drive: Turn knob two stops counterclockwise. Forget you are in drive: Turn knob one stop clockwise and drive forward into the nearest object. There is nothing to stop you from doing this. I have owned the car for 6 months and have had several incidents where muscle memory has led me to nearly drive forward into a wall or other cars while parking.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E. The contact stated while washing the vehicle he noticed a structural issue with the rear hatch not aligned properly on the vehicle. The contact called the local dealer who informed the contact that all vehicles under the model Mach-E were manufactured alike and there was no repair or fix for the structural design. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 800.
The tailgate on our 2 Mustang Mach E’s have spontaneously opened on their own several times. One time narrowly missing one of our 2 year grandsons and another time impacting a closed garage door resulting in approximately $1,500 in damage (State Farm Insurance Claim). The issue was not able to be reproduced at the Ford Service Department but has been reported to have occurred by several additional Mach E owners on the Mach E Forum. Both cars are available for inspection.
This vehicle is sold with a single key FOB and an option to use Phone As A Key software. This feature has been a continual source of problems, as reported by almost every purchaser. It has been updated numerous times, including a dealer installed software update. This is a serious safety issue. To unlock the key, you can use the traditional keypad on the door handle. This works consistently. However, once inside the vehicle, it can be impossible to have the car recognize the phone in my hand. Many owners report having to have the phone in a certain position, out of pocket or at a certain location in the car. Rebooting the phone, starting and stopping Bluetooth, getting out of the car, locking it and starting over again have all been mentioned. These work in a very hit or miss approach. I truly believe this software feature is still very much in its beta stages and should not be relied upon in lieu of a second key fob which is standard on every other Ford vehicle. To purchase the second FOB requires a purchase of the key and a programming service from the dealer, a $300 investment. While I understand there will always be software issues, and the Sync 4 center console certainly has them, the ability to start my car should not be part of this roadblock. Carrying the single FOB with me simply makes it more likely to be lost, and no way to have any assistance available to start my car and get me home safely. My fear is that anyone could easily be stranded in an isolated / dangerou
MachE relies on drivers using their phones as a key to get in and drive their vehicle. Ford does this and encourages drivers to not use the key fob, of which they provide only 1, less than the industry standard of 2. The app has a propensity for randomly failing as happened to me today. Could not use the app to get in the vehicle, no amount of rebooting or other phone tests could get me in the vehicle. There is a backup code, but I forgot mine. Luckily I was able to reach my wife and use hers, but that is an unreasonable expectation. What if my wife were incapacitated and I needed to reach her? My car was immobile and Ford believes that is ok? They need to pick one option. Make the phone as key product work or call it an experiment (which it is) and provide all MachE customers two key fobs. There is serious safety impact of this middle road and consumers expect the “key” they are told to use to ALWAYS WORK!!!
Possible stability control system problem. Driving on wet road, following several other vehicles so my speed could not have been excessive. About half way through the corner experienced what felt like the start of a skid. I corrected it and continued on. My concern is that I am wondering if the stability control system malfunctioned and it thought that it needed to do something which then actually started to put me into a skid. I have been driving for about 60 years including significant driving on snow and ice and have never experienced anything quite like what occurred. I only have about 2000 miles on the 2021Mach E so the tires are virtually new.
While driving on a mountain pass, my 2021 Mustang Mach-E vehicle lost all regenerative braking which, due to the downhill grade, caused a sudden and shocking increase in speed, played warning chimes, and displayed "Stop Safely Now" and "1-Pedal Drive Fault Press Brake Pedal To Reduce Speed" and lost all drive power, forcing me to coast to a stop on the side of the mountain, in an area without cellular coverage to call for help. The vehicle did not restart and would not shift out of Park in 5 attempts to restart. After 10 minutes on the side of the road, the vehicle restarted without issue and no error messages remain in the vehicle.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
