This is a hybrid braking issue where an extreme loud 'clunk' noise which can be felt coming from under the car at low speed less than 10 miles an hour when braking the car. In addition, the brakes seem to not engage properly at stop and go traffic forcing driver to stomp on the brakes to make the car stop. The brakes sometimes won't release after stopping forcing the driver to hit the throttle where the car suddenly lunges forward after the sudden release of the brakes. The Forward Collision warning also comes on unexpectedly without having another car in front of me. Happened twice since ownership of the car. Seems to be common in cold weather.

Hybrid Maverick: The brakes grab so abruptly while coming to a stop. It will jerk your upper body forward. Sometimes the brakes won't grab until the very last second. It feels like the transition from Hybrid braking to mechanical braking is lethargic then grabs all of a sudden. In stop and go traffic there is a lack of confidence that the brakes will actually stop you in time. It literally hit or miss. Very dangerous and jarring. It is not something that the driver can get used to through muscle memory. As the driver you have zero control over this action. Anything slow and/or at a downward slope in traffic will make you cringe.

When I go to stop the vehicle brakes take longer to catch on to stop the vehicle. This has been an ongoing problem since vehicle pick up March 2022. I drove my truck in the last snow fall we received and when I went to brake it was much worse than in normal conditions. It felt like I slid into the stop and had to push the brakes really hard and my kids heads jerked trying to brake. Clearly is a safety issue. When I was in a drive thru waiting for my food the truck jerked forward and it felt like the transmission was falling out.

When I use my remote start option and just put my key in the ignition and start the truck it has a constant burning wire smell. If I come to the truck and turn it off after remote start and just restart it with the key I don't smell the burning wire. If I don't use the remote start option and just start my truck with the key I don't smell the burning wire smell.

My hybrid has an occasional shudder/rattle/vibration noise when the gas engine switches off. Started around 1900 miles on the odometer. Occurs at all speeds with the most noticeable shudder/rattle/vibration noise when stopped. I was worried that the transmission may cease to work and leave me stranded in traffic. There were no errors codes and no warning lights. Has been at the Ford dealer for 26 days as of today with no resolution nor a diagnosis.

When braking at slow speed and almost stopped, the brakes grab hard suddenly and prematurely then lock without pushing the brake pedal any harder. Happens when I'm just slowing to stop. I have not taken the vehicle in for this. I have not had an accident. No one has been hurt. It is a safety risk stopping short of the intended spot. Driver and passengers suddenly getting jerked forward when not prepared. Loud bang or grabbing noise. Could be rear ended due to sudden unplaned braking. Doesn't occur everytime. No dash indicator lights on when this occurs. Brakes release is normal after this occasion. This has happened numerous times since purchase in March 2022.

When switching from gas engine to electric, the gas engine shook/vibrated violently causing the entire truck to shake like I went over rumble strips. It vibrates quite often when switching from gas to electric and vice versa but this time was dramatically different. P.S. There are no rumble strips by my house.

Vehicle was in traffic traveling 5-7 mph applied brakes, they failed to engage. Continued to apply more pressure without effect to speed. After three to four seconds of forward momentum and continuing to apply steady pressure to brakes, brakes engaged forcefully causing the wheels to lock up. This was without warning. This has been happening more frequently and with more randomness. Due to the hating motion, this latest event compounded a prior injury in my back and passenger shoulder (from the seat belt locking). Reported problem to dealer, was told this was normal. This has happened many times prior, this is the first time it caused an injury.

Breaks not responding or working correctly at low speed... At low speed the break pedal will suddenly become "soft" and vehicle will surge forward until the break pedal is moved a significant distance downward in some cases causing a very abrupt stop from having to slam on the breaks. The other situation during slow speed is that the breaks will suddenly stop short and hard. Then you will need to release the break to move forward causing the above situation to occur where the break pedal becomes soft and takes a lot of downward travel to achieve the same level of breaking. I am an experienced driver of many years and have owned or rented hybrids and EV's and none have had breaks that responded as dangerously as the 2022 Ford Maverick. I have nearly hit two other stationary vehicles in a parking lot and while at a stop light as well as nearly hitting someone that was walking between parking spaces as the this vehicle surged forward from a sudden loss of breaking at low speed. As you can imagine this also causes many looks of concern from observers as your vehicle is surging and stopping abruptly while driving in parking lots or traffic. I purchased this vehicle for my family to use and I don't want them use it due to these safety concerns. The breaks work as expected on highways at higher speeds, only issue is during slow speed breaking. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED.

About two weeks after first buying the car I noticed that when breaking the pedal requires inconsistent extra pressure at times to stop the car. Also while breaking and coming to a slow downhill stop the front end makes an odd clunk sound while jerking to a stop. These things only happen very infrequently, so when I took it to the Hansel Ford dealership (in Santa Rosa, Ca.) they could not repeat the sound or breaking effect. The first time I heard the noise I thought I hit something. I feel that the inconsistent breaking could pose a safety issue, making it harder to stop, and potentially causing a collision. I called Ford consumer assistance, they gave me case # [XXX], and asked me to return it to the dealer. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

While attempting to accelerate to pass, the engine shut down and a warning displayed to pull over as soon as possible. The engine check light displayed and I only had electric motor operation. There was no power to continue to pass and I was able to return to an open lane and pull off the road without any further incident. I was lucky that the road was fairly open and there was no oncoming traffic. This is the third time this has happened and each time was while attempting to perform rapid acceleration in "normal" hybrid mode.

The aluminum battery cable is intermittent, which leaves the truck dead. TSB 22-2340 has been issued. IMHO, this should be a mandatory recall. A totally dead hybrid is dangerous!

While driving in traffic on the highway at about 20-30 mph, traffic in my lane slowed further. In response, I applied what should have been an adequate amount of brake pressure to slow down and stop if needed given the following distance I had left. Initially I progressively applying more braking pressure, but after a ~3 seconds of this I slammed the brake down. Instead, the vehicle did not slow as expected in the following ~5 seconds. Despite having slammed on the brake at that point, the vehicle only then showed the emergency braking alert and emergency braked in addition to my foot being fully down on the brake. However, this was too late as my passenger and I rear-ended a Toyota Tacoma. They and myself have filed against my insurance, so there is an accident on my car report that I know has depreciated my new vehicle’s value. Although I do not currently have the Toyota’s estimate, I believe I can ask the owner or my insurance for this. Previously, I had several rear-ending close calls in the car when in traffic and I knew that I often struggled to slow down at stop lights when they first turn yellow. As a result, I’ve often sped up to beat the red since I knew my vehicle struggles to brake in time. My car is currently being repaired by the closest dealership to my SO, but I no longer trust the vehicle. I believe my hybrid maverick does not adequately mechanically brake since it over relies on the weaker regenerative braking. The dealer has attempted to replicate the issue

New incident for me on a recent road trip. I had the check engine light activate once on me back in May when I was on the interstate with cruise set around 75 MPH and I hit the accelerator to go around someone. Just the Yellow/Orange light and it disappeared a day later. On this last trip, same scenario, but the vehicle threw a RED powertrain failure light and went into limp mode. The dash instructed me to pull over when safely possible. Power to accessories(but not HVAC) was on, but drivetrain was not functioning. Luckily, once I got over to the shoulder, I was able to reset the vehicle by doing a complete shutdown of the vehicle. It took a couple of tries, but it came back to life. We were able to continue on with no issues at all other than a Yellow/Orange engine light that disappeared in a couple of hours of continued interstate driving. This has now happened three times total all under the same driving situations.

There's an issue every time I pull in a parking spot or when coming to a slow stop at a red light where there's an abrupt braking issue - I slowly press the brake and it would not slow smoothly sometimes even make a loud noise which sounds like the hydraulic brake all of a sudden working when its supposed to be smooth breaking - this is dangerous as it is random and may come as a surprise when just trying to come to a slow stop. I believe its the transition between the e brakes and the hydraulic brakes its just not smooth at all.

[XXX]: Please allow me 2-3 minutes to research this for you here on my end. [XXX]: ok thank you [XXX]: I am still checking on that for you [XXX], thanks for holding! [XXX]: Sounds good thank you [XXX]: Thank you for holding for me, [XXX]! So that I can best assist you, can you please clarify for me what it is exactly that is occurring with your vehicle? You mentioned that your vehicle will not turn on, is that correct? [XXX]: yes well the truck died while running in the road, while driving suddenly no sign of power or electricity and without warning became unresponsive in every aspect regarding to electricity (Breaks, Steering wheel, Parking break, Transmission, airbags) given the case the truck is hybrid everything stopped working. After that the truck did not start again no ignition total loss of power. [XXX]: Thank you for clarifying that for me, [XXX]. I can only imagine how much of an inconvenience this all must have been for you. I want to also ask, what did Ford Lincoln advise about your warranty coverage when your vehicle was inspected? [XXX]: Well to my disappointment I was told that is was covered the after like 2 weeks they called me back that warranty was not going to cover it [XXX]: So that is unacceptable for me [XXX]: I can understand your disappointment, as having unexpected repair expens

The brakes on this vehicle tend to not respond when performing parking lot maneuvers, creeping in traffic, fast food drive-thru, or backing or pulling into garage. At low speeds, the brakes will either not respond when brake pedal is applied or stop very abruptly / grab with a loud clunk sound. Several incidents of not stopping when expected and almost hitting another vehicle or person.

Brakes are inconsistent. Sometimes the brakes will be light resulting in a longer than expected stopping distance. Other tombs the brakes will grab resulting in a jerky stop. The inconsistency makes it difficult to gauge stopping distance and come to a safe and controlled stop.

When my wife and I were driving in a slow traffic situation I was applying the brakes and it was as if the brakes were not working until all the sudden they locked up. we thought we were going to rear end the vehicle in front of us. This happens to my wife and to myself every time we drive our vehicle, It seems even worse in rainy conditions. (This has been an on going problem since we purchased this vehicle.) We feel very unsafe driving our Maverick and Have been told by the dealership that it is the way the brakes work on the Hybrids. Dealer states they could not duplicate the problem, but from there understanding thats just the way the brakes work on Hybrid Vehicle. No one other then the dealer has ever looked at or inspected our vehicle. It has been a issue since I purchased the Vehicle New, No warning lights, No message, No symptoms or problems prior to the brakes malfunction. This happen every time we drive the vehicle. I am almost 60 years old, I have been driving a long time, and have never had a car brake this way,. Definitely something not right.

I never had this sort of problem with brakes in ANY cars BUT the Maverick Hybird. In low speed (around 5mph) the brake is so unmanageable that I worry every time i park. It's unable to move forward 2-3 inch at a time, it goes to 6-12inch every stops and god knows what number it will go on the next try. This is VERY Dangerous to property and to pedestrian because the driver can't control how far the car will go before stops, even it's in low speed.

When traveling <10 mph it feels as though you are stepping on the brakes. The normal pressure needed to apply the brakes does not work. Drivers then have to apply significant pressure and the vehicle abrasively stops. The brake issue has already almost led to several fender benders in stop-and-go traffic (e.g. airport pick; heavily-trafficked roads and drive-throughs).

Accelerated to merge onto highway. Vehicle alerted to pull over safely when possible. Internal combustion engine shut off and vehicle "limped" in electric only mode until I could find a spot to park. This all happened while traveling at 70MPH on a busy freeway. Once I shut the vehicle off, I was able to start it again and travel to my nearest dealer. Dealer was unable to diagnose the issue but advised it was safe to drive home to our local dealer. Truck is currently at local dealer being diagnosed. One CEL of note was P0811 (clutch slippage). This truck is nearly brand new with fewer than 12,000 miles on the odometer. I have had similar Check Engine Lights with similar results of not being able to diagnose. However, this incident of power loss at highway speeds with my wife and 3 children in the vehicle was unacceptable.

Our 22 Maverick is brand new and we are experiencing a breaking issue. At slow speeds, we are dealing with very inconsistent results when we depress the brake pedal which range from feeling as though the vehicle won't stop to abruptly stopping. Many other Maverick owners are posting the same situation on social media and we love our truck except for this issue. Ford has notified it's dealers that they are working on a software fix for this problem but many of us feel that there needs to be a recall since any issue dealing with brakes is a safety concern.

Driving northbound on Bertelsen, Eugene, OR 97402. There is a transition from asphalt to concrete with a slight bump 60ft from the stop at the light on Roosevelt. I was traveling 35 and was slowed to 25 mph at that point while actively braking. I went over the transition when the car made a big bang noise like the hybrid system disengaged hard, the tires chirped like the locked up for an instant and then the brake pedal went hard and I rolled into the intersection unable to stop until about half way into the intersection. I called the dealership and they can't look at it for a month and a half and didn't seem to concerned about it.

The vehicle will not crank and has no power. I have been getting the deep sleep notification nearly everyday. The wiring harness seems to be the issue but dealership says they find nothing wrong. Had service 4 times for dead maverick and they have replaced the battery 3 times. The vehicle will only start if I jump it through the hood terminals. If it sits for more that 24-48 hours I have to jump start the vehicle. FordPass app is useless due to being in deep sleep mode all the time. Seems others are having the issue with the wiring harness and C1617e eyelet terminal.

The low braking system on the 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid is irregular and unpredictable. In stop-and-go traffic (sub 10mph), the braking system can either give you too much or too little brakes, resulting in the vehicle's brakes automatically grabbing and producing a jarring stop. This can be noticed when pulling in to a parking spot, slowly moving to a stop at a red light or slowly driving through a parking lot. The safety risk is a wreck waiting to happen that could injure the passengers as well as nearby cars and/or pedestrians. In winter driving (which is due soon where I live), the lack of a reliable braking system could spell even more trouble. This issue seems to finally be acknowledged by Ford via SSM 51142 but not externally to the general public. Ford does not recognize this on their site and it took a lot of work to get the dealer to finally look into this and provide the SSM # above. Still the dealer has no confirmed date as to when the software update can be made to fix this issue. The vehicle has been inspected by my local Ford dealer but they of course say nothing is wrong and that I have to wait on Ford to make a decision on when the update is available. No warning signals or messages are displayed when this issue occurs. This issue has been present since I took receipt of the vehicle back on 5/13/22.

Maverick Hybrid brakes are inconsistent. Sometimes you can brake smoothly, sometimes you cannot and the brakes will grab suddenly and lurch. Using Adaptive Cruise is miserable because the truck lurches back and forth and feels like it can't transition between friction and regenerative braking. There are no warnings on dash, truck has 1,000 miles. It is dangerous because getting more braking force than you anticipated can lead to being rear ended and not getting the brake force you anticipate can cause you to rear-end someone else.

I recently purchased my 2022 Ford, Maverick and when slowing to a stop the brakes seem to grab and then suddenly stops as more pressure is applied to the brakes. This has also happened on multiple occasions when I pull into a parking space at speeds of about 5MPH or less when the brakes suddenly grab and the vehicle kinda jerks and can stop suddenly. I would say this has happened about 30-40 times so far. Not sure if it's a brake problem or something else. I will be bringing my vehicle to the dealership next week where I bought it, Tamiami Ford in Naples Florida, but I don't expect to get any co-operation from them as I have had issues with them from the very beginning but that is a story for another time.

Occasionally the brakes don't properly stop smooth at low speeds then suddenly lock up causing a hard stop and somewhat neck pain. Brought to dealer twice but they couldn't replicate the issue. Brakes suddenly grab when coming to a stop at slow speed. Although control of the vehicle is maintained on dry pavement I am concerned that it would cause loss of control in icy road conditions. Also, when this occurs while creeping ahead in heavy traffic I'm concerned that the abrupt stop could cause a rear-end collision from the vehicle following me. I believe that the problem is inherent in the design of the vehicle and that there is nothing that needs to be fixed at the dealership service department. The effect seems to occur when braking force is transferred from the hybrid's battery regeneration mode to actually applying the brakes. The date cited below is the most recent occurrence. The problem has happened sporadically since the vehicle was new, March 2022.

At low speeds with partial brake pedal force applied the car doesn't stop in a controlled manner. It drifts somewhat as the driver increases the pressure on the pedal then it stops abruptly. It feels like the car isn't going to stop at all until at the last instant it almost "panic" stops. Very unnerving and potentially dangerous as the vehicle tends to drift several feet before stopping.

While driving , at times the transmission suddenly stops responding when gas pedal is pushed. The engine revs but the transmission does not engage and the truck drifts to a stop. This happens every once in a while, not predictably. If you turn off the engine and wait a few minutes the transmission seems to reset itself and then drives normally for a while. Very dangerous when driving in traffic at high speed, to suddenly lose power and come to a stop. So far I’ve been lucky enough to be able to get off to the side of the road onto the shoulder. The Maverick is in for service now and I’ve told them that other Maverick owners are reporting this on owners forums.

Occasionally when braking at low speed, primarily when coming up to a turn, stop sign or traffic light the brakes lockup causing the vehicle to come to an abrupt stop. Even when not changing the amount of pressure being applied the brakes act like I have applied full pressure. Most of the time it hasn’t been a safety issue but there is potential in wet/icy conditions for the vehicle to slide. Also the issue could cause someone to rear end me as they are not expecting me to suddenly stop.

At low speeds, the brakes do not apply evenly or smoothly. When light pressure is applied to the brake pedal, they go from being ineffective to locking in a way that causes the vehicle to jerk as though it has been hit by another vehicle. This is very problematic in slow moving traffic conditions. Safety of myself and others are put at risk because the driver of the vehicle cannot reasonably predict the vehicle braking response. In brief discussion, various dealership representatives said that the behavior is typical for hybrid vehicles. The brake system as not been inspected to my knowledge. There have been no related warning lamps or indicators related to the brake issues.

Ford is taking an unreasonable amount of time in correcting NHTSA Recall Number 22V594. I have purchased the vehicle and the dealership will not let me take ownership until the recall is corrected. Ford estimates the parts to be available in the first quarter of 2023. Not allowing a consumer to take ownership of a vehicle for over three months after paying for it is unjust. The delay in fixing the vehicle is absurd considering the fact that other Ford Maverick's are currently being built and delivered with a safe airbag system.

I was driving East on Rte 70 near Mt. Airy, MD at approximately 2 am the morning of Sunday, Oc. 11. at approximately 65 mph. In and instant all power to the vehicle went dead. The engine stopped and all electrical components went dead. Most importantly, my lights went out, the power steering was inoperable, and the brakes went out. It was absolutely terrifying. Because of the lack of brakes, I narrowly avoided colliding with an 18-wheeler. I was able to pull the car off the road on the right side and allow the vehicle to drift to a stop (again, no brakes) over the course of 1/4 - 1/2 mile. I called a tow truck. They towed the vehicle to Apple Ford in Columbia, MD. I am told by the Dealer that this most likely an issue with the battery wiring harness, and that Ford is aware of the issue. It's unfathomable to me that Ford would not issue a recall for this extraordinarily dangerous issue. I have contacted Ford directly. They have been nothing short of abusive. Their IVR phone system seems intentionally designed to confuse and frustrate callers. I have attempted to escalate the issue to a supervisor, given the extremely dangerous nature of the issue. At 6k miles my early build 2022 ford maverick hybrid died entirely while sitting in the garage. The truck can be jumped but will not hold a charge beyond that one use. The battery is fine according to the dealer, but it appears internal connections are not correct, causing the truck to die after every use. Ford is saying this might not be under warranty when the truck is an obvious lemon. Other owners are reporting the same issue with the hybrid models on various internet pages. It seems to be a common issue that should be subject to a recall.

My truck is never inactive for 14 days and has never been in extreme cold/hot weather conditions. Therefore I can only conclude severe voltage drops from the battery. Car would not accelerate under full power. When I fully depressed the gas pedal, the power meter (hybrid gauge instead of rpm) would only go up to 45%, the engine sounded like it was revving high but the car barely made any power. After a few minutes of this happening I got a message in my instrument cluster to immediately stop the vechicle, along with a red triangle with exclamation point dash light, at which point the car lost power, and started decelerating rapidly (as if in full regeneration mode (electric braking)) in the middle of the highway. I barely had enough time to get over 2 lanes of traffic and stop on the shoulder. I tried turning off the car, and on and the shifter wouldn't even go out of the P position (I physically couldn't turn it.) After a couple minutes I tried starting car again at which point car started with the check engine light on and drove normally like nothing ever happened.
