Since I have had this vehicle I have had power steering faults every other week sometimes multiple times a week sometimes they take a couple week break, but the power steering cuts out and I get a power steering assist fault or service advancetrac fault on the display and it cuts out the power steering. If I pull over and shut it off and turn it back on it will go away and I can continue with power steering again. Sometimes it does this before I get going and sometimes it does this while I’m driving and the only solution is turning the ignition off and then waiting a bit and starting it again. Sometimes I have to do it 3-4 times but it will eventually behave normally again. However today, luckily while still at home, the service advancetrac will not go away and power steering is completely gone. Only after the complete failure have I now read about ford extending warranties to 10 years 150,000 miles which I am just out of time, I’m well under 150,000 miles. No service center has reproduced it as it was such an intermittent issue I couldn’t just leave my vehicle there for weeks.

The power steering went out on my son while driving and he could have gotten in an accident! at 61k miles and the part on this car was made 10 days before the recall. I believe this VIN should have been included in the Steering Gear Assembly recall! Now I’m stuck with a 2k repair! For a faulty Steering Gear Assembly! And Ford Motor won’t budge- spouting the 60k warranty. This part should not fail at 61k- it’s a known issue! Many engineers at Ford have told me it’s highly likely the part in my car could have been in the same manufacturing lot as the ones recalled.

While driving power steering lost. Instant loss of control of vehicle. Brought to dealer scanned for diagnostic code U2011 present. The dealer applied to have my steering rack replaced under campaign 15N01. Ford denied. I called for customer service and although they are aware of the issue it is Not a recall so they are not required to replace it or offer any good will. The campaign is expired on my vehicle by 3 years. This should be a safety recall for which there is no expiration date. It is up to the NHTSA to enact this potentially deadly situation. Ford has acknowledged this defect for which I have already experienced loss of power steering but is hiding behind a date on an expired campaign verses a safety recall. What needs to happen for this to be a recall which would require Ford to address their faulty part?? Please contact me immediately to discuss.

The power steering went out in my vehicle after it being well in the negative temps as I live in North Dakota. After doing some research online it seems to be a common issue with my vehicle. I am glad it happened not while I was in motion, as losing power steering on the highway would not have been good. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Power Steering Assist Fault. It has been looked at by an independent car shop and the Ford dealership where I live. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Power steering going out. While I was not in motion at the time of the failure, if i had been the safety of everyone around me and my own life would have been put at risk. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes Ford has it at their dealership right now. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? It happened to me once before when it was really cold, but turned back on. Now I have a $2,500 bill on my hands, as the whole steering rack needs to be replaced.

Car was working great and is serviced regularly. Brake system completely went out- throwing tons of codes. There was a recall for the same issue on models 2010 and earlier but not on the 2011 or later! Many people have had the same issue (brakes going out while driving, ABS module/pump failure, etc.). The parts to fix it are also currently discontinued!! I have no idea what to do because nobody is helping.

Within one week, my power steering fault came on twice, luckily driving at 5-10mph. But still scary at 10mph. Scary to imagine any faster. It locks up randomly out of no where in the neighborhood. Nothing touched before hand, no indication it was going to lock up, no warning. It locks up and cannot move the wheel so I have put it in park and turned off engine and restart it to move the steering wheel again. On the dash it will say ‘Power Steering Fault’. This is my vehicle I rely on for work and commute for myself and my child. No other vehicle possible for backup. This is dangerous and will not risk driving the vehicle, and at dead end with work and transportation on a busy schedule. I was lucky it did not happen in an intersection or crowded street or freeway and more lucky that my child was with me on one of the two times it happened driving 5mph and not 10mph. Cannot imagine it happen with other vehicles around.

On 12/28/2023, my power steering went out on my Fusion. It gave a message in the message center “Power Steering Assist Fault”, and after software diagnosis, the steering rack has been confirmed to be faulty. The vehicle has been a nightmare to drive, requiring up to 14 rotations of the steering wheel to rotate sufficiently, causing minor but repeated injuries to my neck, hands, wrists, and arms. On 1/10/2024, a supervisor called me and again denied an extension of the repair program to replace the faulty rack, putting my income and safety at risk.

Power Steering Assist Fault in a 2011 Ford Fusion not being treated due to it previously being reprogrammed to satisfy the recall 15S18 but they never replaced the steering gear which is now failing. The CSP 15N01 is now expired on my car and the dealership and Ford corporate refuse to treat it despite the negligence of the original technician who never correctly fixed it in the first place. This is an extremely dangerous issue as power steering may randomly shut off and make it nearly impossible to steer safely. The steering gear replacement was confirmed by an auto repair store.

The ABS Brake module had an internal failure, per the Lucas Ford Dealership in Burlington New Jersey. The Part I believe is available upon request. - The way my safety / the safety of others was put at risk was that my abs brake system had an internal failure. No car dash indicator lights came up, however my brake peddle became spongy and created a delayed brake time response due to the fact the brake would not engage until nearly fully depressed or engaged into the floor. - Once i noticed the brake issue and this brake concern did not go away I then contacted and brought my car to The lucas ford dealership in Burlington NJ, in which this dealership confirmed my brake issue and told me there was an internal failure in the abs brake module. - The Component has inspected by the Lucas ford dealership, who repaired the issue on 1-7-24 - No warning lamps, messages were emitted concerning this brake failure. The only reason I knew about this issue is due to the fact my brake peddle started to feel like a sponge when engaging the brake peddle to stop the car. - I have documentation of the repair done by Lucas Ford Dealership. - I appreciate the work the NHTSA does to keep U.S Citizens safe, which is why i am reaching out to explain the issue i had regarding my brake system to keep others out of harms way. After doing some research online, this issue regarding the abs module failure in this particular car model seems to be an issue other U.S Citizens are having. To note, This particu

This defect is Ford caused and should be reopened to the owners of these older vehicles before someone gets seriously injured or results in death by loss of steering. control. Being a mother of 3 with very limited income and this being my only mode of transportation, I am at a loss and will be unable to get this repaired or another vehicle resulting in the loss of my job and my children being unable to get to and from school. The electronic power steering assist module malfunctioned resulting in loss of steering control. The unit began smoking and was stopped immediately, fortunately in the driveway so there was no risk to anyone while the car was travelling on a roadway. The vehicle (2011 Ford Fusion) is currently not driveable since as soon as the battery is reconnected it heats up and the unit starts smoking again. There is no way to steer the vehicle as a result. There was an online article indicating that this year and model may have been subject to a recall due to the steering defect, but searching the NHTSA database did not reveal this particular issue being addressed. The vehicle has not yet been inspected as it needs to be towed to either the dealer or auto repair shop depending on whether Ford will assist in the repair.

I bought the car in 03/2019. I was not informed about this recall. We had the epsa go out last week, called the ford dealership, made an appointment. Drove the car without power steering to the dealership, they looked at it and told us $2,200.00. I said there is a recall, the man said I am at 158,000 and that is over the allotted 150,000 miles. I was not informed about this recall, therefore I could not know to go get this fixed. I called Ford customer service and she said they cannot help. This is a SAFETY concern and I do not know how this is even legal. I am filing a formal complaint.

While driving on a major highway during rush hour, at the posted speed limit (65MPH) , without any warning the vehicle completely lost any and all braking capability without any prior warning or indication of an issue later on after managing to avoid any type of accident or collision with anything around. I turned the car off, when turning the car back on then and only then I received a dashboard full of lights most important being “service advancetrac” and (!) BRAKE, “Check break system”. By reading many other forums with the same car and the exact issues and notifications it says that there is a glitch in the ABS module with communicates with the hydraulic control unit which caused complete and catastrophic brake failure. Which could have resulted in a major accident, risking my life, the occupants of my vehicle, and any other vehicle around. Lucky I was able to maneuver my way off to the side of the highway, and slowly make my vehicle come to a stop, then putting it in park, which would be the only way to stop the vehicle from moving or rolling back or forward. I believe this is a very serious issue that must be addressed. The car is now being diagnosed at a Ford Dealer at a cost of $200 and probably a repair cost of over $2600 according to others. I’am still waiting after spending $1000 on a car rental to make it to work so I would not risk my job. Abs pump failed resulting in very little brakes which almost caused a accident with my wife and daughter in the car. With no warning lights on and no indication of brake failure until they tried to avoid a car/ group of deer accident. Car had 25% brakes. They cautiously got the car home. Upon inspection no leaks or anything wrong with brake system. After doing research on the problem car is experiencing, I found that previous models of the fusion had been recalled for the same problem. 2011 and 2012 were still having problems with them, but no recall, even tho many owners had the same problem. $850 plus tax for just the part and no labor. I put a new abs pump in and corrected the problem. Ford should recall this as brakes are very important safety issue. This could kill or injure people as there is no warning at all to the failure.

I was driving on the highway and my power steering suddenly went out on me in the middle of traffic. My 2011 Ford Fusion SE had a "Power Steering Assist Fault" on my dash and it stopped working, it only had 117k miles on it. I then took it to the dealership to get it diagnosed and they said it was the Rack and Pinion that needed to be replaced. They told me that its a known problem, and for this generation of Fusion there was an extended warranty for this problem, but only 10 year/150k miles, whichever comes first and my car(12 years old) is now too old to get it replaced at no charge. Said that Ford around 2011 was introducing electric power steering for the first time. The Ford Dealership then wanted me to pay out something like $2300 to have them replace the parts needed. This was so incredibly dangerous to have this suddenly happen, I almost wrecked trying to get off the highway during rush hour. I have no clue why Ford would make a car and not make it a mandatory recall to replace parts for the electronic steering. After Googling my issue, I found many others having this same problem and getting screwed over by Ford. Please don't keep letting them get away with this. I just want to feel safe on the road in my car.

I experienced power steering failure while driving nearly causing me to have a major accident. This failure is due to a Power steering module failure. Ford had a safety recall for this (14S06), link below. There was no warning. I had a mechanic inspect and confirm the problem. The car is nearly un-drivable. I tried calling a Ford dealership (Tasca Ford, Berlin CT) they told me the recall expired. I called Ford, they told me the same thing. The brake pedal on my 2011 Fusion compressed to the floor just barely stopping the vehicle. This happened suddenly without warning. This puts me, other drivers, and pedestrians at risk. This braking issue was confirmed by my mechanic. My mechanic said that the issue is with the hydraulic control unit (ABS part), and he said that it looks to be like the exact issue covered in the current recall for 2006-2010 Fusion models. He also replaced the brake master cylinder as part of the problem although the brake pedal is still very soft. The local Ford dealership confirmed the issue but says the ABS part is on back order thru early 2024.

On November 28, 2023, I was driving about 30 mph when my power steering completely went out. Two warnings popped up stating “service power steering now” and “service advancetrac”. The two icons with what looks like tires sliding / tcs indicator are also present. I did nothing out of the ordinary and typical driving. I wasn’t on icy roads or speeding. I didn’t hit my brakes in any manner that would trigger a mishap with sliding. But this is scary to have happened and now because it’s winter in Idaho, it will be absolutely unsafe for me to operate this vehicle. This needs to be taken care of.

I googled the problem and found recall# 15S18 for the same make and model, but my VIN# was not included. I called Ford about it and they said that recall has been closed out in August 2015 and the issue is not covered under another recall. While drive I experienced a complete power steering failure. The steering wheel barely moved while traveling around 40mph surrounding by traffic. The steering wheel basically locked with little to no movement. I immediately put on my hazard lights and pulled to the far right lane where I hit a curb. I heard a chime noise and I looked on the dashboard where it displayed POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT. This same warning message has popped up over the years from time to time when initially starting the vehicle but never while driving. There is a recall on for this issue from Ford # (15S18) for the same year, make and model but just not my exact vehicle Ford had told me. While having my vehicle serviced over the years from Ford I've informed them since 2015. While having an airbag recall fixed by Ford a few years back I informed them about the issue once again and was told I'd have to wait for a recall and not to worry about it. I've never been more afraid in my life of being in a car accident. Upon calling Ford today I was told they know about the problem and I'd have to wait to see if I receive a recall for my vehicle that's unsafe to operate and that I could've been seriously injured in or worse.

I was driving my vehicle (Ford Fusion 2011) home and while on a busy street, my vehicle began to shake and displayed the following warning on my dashboard - SERVICE POWER STEERING. I luckily made it home without incident. I haven't driven it since. -My safety was in jeopardy as well as others on the road. -The vehicle has NOT been inspected by Ford, or any others. As it would need to be towed. -The warning came on AS the problem began. -I've reached out to a few Ford dealerships in the Dallas Metro, whom have CONFIRMED it has a recall - however are demanding I pay for repairs, which to my knowledge is illegal if it is a recall.

Started the car and a "Power Steering Assist Fault" immediately appeared on the dash, making the steering impossible to use at a stop or low speed. I believe this could be part of NHTSA campaign 15V340000, but it doesn't come up on my VIN. On the Ford website my VIN shows it as campaign 15N01, described as "Epas steering efforts".

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
