Was driving down a busy road with my [XXX] and [XXX] , when all of a sudden my steering wheel got super tight and the car shut down. A message stating "power steering assist fault" popped up on my dashboard. There was ZERO warning before it happened. I just bought this car 3 months ago from a facebook marketplace car dealer. When this incident happened 2 weeks ago, I googled 2011 ford fusion recalls and it says NHTSA recalled in 2015. When I'm not understanding is why a VIN number makes a difference, when I'm having the problem on the type of year/model that was recalled. I have been informed about the customer satisfaction program, which expired years before I purchased the vehicle. Again, why should that fall on me? On multiple occasions after an ABS brake event, the brake pedal will travel all the way to floor with very little braking power. In some instances, the brake pedal returns to normal after a short amount of time and repetitive pumping of the the brake pedal. In other instances, an extended period of time and aggressive pumping and stabbing of the brake pedal is required to regain full brake control. In every case, this condition has occurred immediately following an ABS brake event. However, it does not occur after every ABS brake event, making it very unpredictable. There have been no warning lamps, messages, symptoms, or other indication of a problem prior to each occurrence. This vehicle has been inspected by a Ford Dealer. The dealer was not able to reproduce the problem, but loss of brake pedal with little brake control continues to occur unpredictably. We use this vehicle for commuting to downtown Minneapolis in heavy traffic and ice roads. Despite cautious driving habits, this issue has created multiple close call collisions with other vehicle.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The steering system of my Ford started to fail, to be specific my steering wheel went hard and it was impossible to turn it. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I was driving at around 50 miles per hour, and I was with one friend and all of the sudden my steering wheel stopped working and I had to pull over immediately since I was no longer able to drive it. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? I have heard that these cars 2010-2012 Fusions have this problem and they are a lot. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes, when this occurred a message appeared saying first: "Service Power Steering assist" after I parked and turn off the car it appeared a second message saying "Service Power Steering Now" and the steering wheel was rock solid, it didn't move anywhere. With those messages a message saying "Service Advancetrac" also appeared, and they were changing back and forth. I had to towed my vehicle to my house.

The gas tank has developed a crack towards the top of the tank. This appears to be from the exact same issue that Ford recalled because the "purge valve" can cause the pressure to change inside the gas tank. As the pressure increases and decreases, a crack can develop in the top of the tank, allowing fuel to leak. My VIN was not included in the recall for some reason. Even though it is the exact same model and I believe was even built at the same plant in Mexico where the other impacted vehicles were made.

As stated in a previous complaint vehicle has what one professional mechanic diagnosed as an "electrical fathom draw" which drains the battery. The issue with the vehicle started on July 1st which the timing seems ironic since it was the first day of the month. I have taken the vehicle to several qualified mechanics who could not diagnose what was draining the battery. Purchased a new battery and still having the same issue. Each time I had roadside assistance jumpstart the battery they stated it was not the altenator or the starter. No codes to perform a diagnostic like "check engine" light or other warning signs.

In June 2023 I experienced sudden steering failure with my Fusion. Upon checking parts costs at my local dealer (North Star Ford) I was advised that there may be an extended recall. I checked with the service department who reportedly checked with Ford and advised me that the recall was still in effect if certain codes were met despite its 186,000 miles. I had to have the vehicle towed to North Start and they verified the proper codes. When they sent the claim to Ford it was denied. North Star was un-able to get an explanation as to why they were told it was covered or why it was denied. I was given a Ford customer service #. I had to have the vehicle towed again. Upon calling Case #CAS44009218 was assigned but was given no assistance. To date I haven't heard from either North Star or Ford. I have owned the Fusion since 2012 and have never received a recall notice. I would like to know what year or at what milleage this condition stopped being a dangerous hazzard.

This is in regard to programs 15S18/14S06 and 15N01 for power steering failures. Ford was addressing the recall by reprogramming the module instead of repairing the failing part. Customers (such as myself) who addressed the recall via this method were left bearing the cost of repairs when the part failed. Customers who did not address the recall by having the module reprogrammed are getting their steering gears replaced by Ford at no cost. I've had multiple Ford dealerships tell me that they don't feel it's right, but they are handcuffed by what Ford is instructing them to do in these situations. My vehicle has now been inspected and diagnosed by a Ford dealership, and I've paid to have the steering gear replaced. This is a very expensive repair. The dealership quoted $3200. My request is for the NHTSA to reassess this situation and recommend that Ford do the right thing and make sure to replace the steering gear or extend coverage for those owners who no longer have 15S18 open (those who have addressed the recall via reprogramming of the module).

When applying the brakes, they go almost all the way to the floor without warning. This just started happening this year so I had the master cylinder replaced by a certified mechanic and it still occurs intermittently. They will work fine for months at a time and then do exactly the same thing where they go almost all the way to the floor. It can happen when driving or at a stop. When it happens when driving at high speeds it is scary as I don’t feel I am going to stop. I am thinking of trading in the car because I don’t feel safe and feel that I am putting myself and others in danger.

The "Power Steering Assist Fault" light came on when the car was started and the steering wheel was very heavy and hard to move. Simultaneously, the "Service AdvanceTrac" light also came on. The vehicle was later scanned and an internal component failure code "U-3000:04-68" was identified for the Power Steering Motor. This is an internal system failure. The safety risk was to the driver along with other drivers on the road due to the vehicle being harder to control. The failure happened during a 600 mile drive and the vehicle was driven home carefully as no other arrangements could be made. Driver sustained wrist injury and pain at the carpals from increased effort needed to manually steer vehicle. The "Power Steering Assist Fault" had previously appeared for a couple seconds upon vehicle start up but had not previously disabled the power steering. It had been originally reprogrammed with the recall in 2016 but the recall re-programming proved ineffective.

The brake ABS module fails intermittently on 2010-2012 model year Ford Fusion Hybrid vehicles. It has failed multiple times on mine and I have only owned the vehicle for 2 months. The vehicle is available for inspection. When the module fails, the vehicle switches from electronic to manual braking; however, there are times when the brakes will not engage with the pedal at full travel, touching the floor board of the car. When this happens, the car does not stop and has almost resulted in accidents in the past and around April 2024, most recently for me. The only reason a crash did not occur is the light I was stopping for changed green and the car in front of me began moving. I was traveling approximately 25 mph when I began to press the brake pedal. I pumped the pedal 3 times but was still traveling around 15 mph when the light turned green. I had the car inspected by a mechanic because of this issue and found out the entire ABS module and brake pump housing is defective; the plastic pieces from the module that connect to the pump can fracture due to brake pressure. The module is also vin/vehicle specific and replacement parts are extremely hard to find. Symptoms leading to this issue are the parking brake lights-one on the instrument cluster and one on the information screen, and the Check Brake System message illuminate. There is also a clicking noise and vibration from the brake pedal, which I was told is the electronic assistance lever moving away from the pedal. There a
