While driving on the freeway (65-70mph) headed home from work my front end began to shake so hard along with my steering wheel. I had no idea what was going on their was no warning of something wrong. It lasted a min or two but very unsettling. My mother-in-law called this a death roll, her roommate has a 2011 F-250 and just experienced this same feeling. Thank you in advance for your time, Danielle

My vehicle was purchased from Shottenkirk Ford new in 2016. They perform my maintenance regularly. Recently, I experienced a leak and took it in; I had it towed to them. Shottenkirk wanted $1200 because they stated that the water pump needed to be replaced. After replacing the water pump, the leak was worse. Shottenkirk wanted $1200 to replace parts they said needed replacing in the transmission cooling portion. They tried to get me to trade in my vehicle for a new one. I could not afford that. After they did that repair, they said there was still a small leak. I tried to head straight home, but the vehicle would not shift into third gear, stranding me in highway traffic. I had to have the vehicle towed back to them. Now, they state that the transmission needs repair and they want $9000. I stated I could not do this and they said I could trade my 2016 Ford Diesel F350 with 4WD with numerous upgrades for a base-model 2008 Honda Ridgeline 2WD with over 100,000 miles. After researching, I believe Ford and Shottenkirk are well aware of the problems with the manufacturing of this truck, and I believe it needs to be addressed at a national level.
My wife and I were pulling a 40’ fifth wheel from AZ to Idaho. On the Montana side of 4th of July pass I suddenly get a trouble code. The exhaust filter is full. My wife and I are both handicapped so in the mountains pulling our rv scared us both. I pulled over when I could and called Ford. The guy tells me to just drive it at a constant speed over 45 and it should clean itself. My question was I’ve been traveling over 45 for miles so why is it full? No explanation, however, he tells me if it doesn’t clean out then the trk will go into limp mode and that’s not good. But also says we should be ok for the 200 remaining miles until we get to Idaho. Well here’s the problem. My understanding is that this component is part of the emission system and is not something that is life nor death if it isn’t working. Well we get part way up the mountain not fifty miles in the middle of no where and the trk suddenly starts loosing power on a two lane mountain pass with two handicapped people, one 70 and one 62. This trk slows to 5 mph in first gear and that’s it…. That as far as I’m concerned put our lives in danger! We could have died over a stupid part of the emissions system that Ford decided was important enough to put a vehicle into a not even a limp mode but actually create a dangerous situation. Why so they can charge me $200 to clean it. Which is done by hooking a code machine to the trk and telling it to clean the exhaust filter and it all automatic. I understand this limp mode and
I am writing because I own a 2016 ford f-350 that has had a clock spring contamination recall for months. The manufacturer has NOT developed a fix for this problem and I cannot use the vehicle for rental purposes because of this recall. This situation is coding me hundreds of dollars per week and needs to be resolved or they need to buy the vehicle back. Can you help?
While driving severe shaking (wobbling) of steering wheel. Had to break and pull off road. Had heard of ford death wobble before , first time for me.. Really frighting, luckily no traffic.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-350. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle started to shake significantly from side to side. The contact then stated that on a separate occasion, while driving approximately 35 MPH, the front driver’s side tire started to wobble significantly. The contact then stated that her husband was able to pull the vehicle off the road. The contact’s husband turned off and restarted the vehicle. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was advised to call the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000. The contact stated that the vehicle does not have steering stabilizing shocks attached to the steering arms to suppress the wobble.
Brand new shocks and steering stabilizer installed. This truck since ive owned it is dangerous to drive. When you hit bumps at highway speeds the vehicles shakes and wobbles to the point it feels it looses contact with the road. You either have to dramatically lower speed or risk crashing due to loss of control. This should be recalled due to the enormous amount of complaints for this issue. I will be forced to sell the truck and lose money if something isnt done by manufacturer.
While driving at approximately 62mph, my truck hit a small bump in the road and began shaking so violently that I could barely hold onto the wheel. I immediately braked which caused the truck to shake even more until I finally slowed to about 20th and pulled off the 2 lane highway. Luckily there was very minimal traffic and I was able to keep from losing control. I have only had this truck that I bought from a Ford dealership approximately 5 weeks. This is extremely alarming that a truck like this has no safety recall for something that after some research is named the death wobble across the web. There is no warning, and I do not believe the dealership will do anything to fix this issue without compensation.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-350. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH, the front-end was bouncing abnormally, causing the contact to pull over and stop the vehicle. The contact then continued driving however, the failure persisted, and contact pulled over to inspect the vehicle. The vehicle was then restarted and worked as designed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000. The VIN was not available.
My vehicle started to shake uncontrollably at 50mph when driving. Research online indicated what people call a "death wobble". I contacted my local Ford dealership multiple times to see if my repair would be covered by Ford. On November 8th, 2022 I turned my truck in and on the 11th I was told what repairs needed to be done. On November 21st, I picked up my truck and parked it at my house. I drove less than 40 miles locally with speeds never exceeding 50mph. On December 6 I began a work trip to Nashville from Killeen Texas. 20 miles into my trip my truck did the "death wobble" with me going 70mph. Two hours later it happened again. I drove all the way to Nashville going 50mph and experienced the death wobble about 8-9 times. Now my engine has a ticking noise that I am certain came from the unsafe, violent, and terrifying shaking of this massive truck.
The backup camera fails to function creating a danger to children that it was specifically suppose to address.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-350. The contact stated that the instrument panel occasionally went black intermittently. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the failure was related to the failure listed in NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V337000 (Air Bags) however, the part was not available. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 72,484.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-350. The contact stated that the horn and several other electrical functions on his steering wheel had failed to operate as needed, with the air bag warning light illuminated. The contact then received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V337000 (Air Bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The dealer had been notified about the recall and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The manufacturer had been notified of the recall. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
While traveling at Interstate speed (55-75 MPH), when you hit a certain bump or pothole or road irregularity, the front passenger wheel will begin vibrating which quickly grows in magnitude until the entire engine compartment and cab starts to violently shudder, to the point where all 4 tires begin losing contact with the road surface. The only way to regain control and reduce the harmonics is to apply maximum braking. However, as the truck starts to slow, the shudders will become more violent until finally dampening out appx. 100 yards later at around 40 MPH. Once damped out, the truck will drive smoothly and predictably again at speed until the next bump. As it stands now, I am afraid to drive the truck and my wife refuses to drive it. The big fear is having this happen while in a turn or in heavy traffic where the sudden maximum braking can cause an accident.
Any time I hit a bump going over 50 mph the front end of my truck starts shaking violently. So much that it feels like the front end is about to break apart. The only way to stop is to slam on the brakes and slow down as fast as possible. It’s ways on the highway so it’s a danger to myself and the people behind me. I have to hold the steering wheel as tight I can to keep from losing control. Dealer told me it happens but they don’t know why. This has been happening on a daily basis since I drive on highways to get to work. And only a matter of time before I get into an accident.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-350. The contact stated that while driving, the air bag warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact then stated that he received notification of the NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V337000 (Air Bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
I was driving down the interstate at about 65-70mph and my truck started violently shaking out of no where causing me to nearly lose control. After pulling off the road the shaking went away. I brought my truck into my mechanic to have it looked at and they told me this is a known problem with these trucks. After spending a considerable amount of money to have the steering stabilizer and drag link replaced it happened again four days later. My truck is now currently back in the shop. I maintain this truck extremely well and do not abuse it in any way, I should not be having an issue like this. I do not feel safe driving in this truck knowing I can lose control without any warning at highway speeds.
Experience the famous death wobble from 50mph to 70mph hitting a bump or uneven surface you have to stop the vehicle to regain control.
This truck has the death wobble. Started when I purchased the truck at 19000 miles. When at highway speeds, bridge joints and bumps will make the truck nearly uncontrollable. This has happened MANY times in the 80K miles that I've put on the vehicle. It has new tie rod ends, new shocks and has had several sets of tires in the 70k miles that I've owned it. Nothing that I've had mechanics do has fixed the death wobble. The most recent incident is listed below.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-350. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the diesel particulate filter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was advised to call the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 44,000.
There is an "advanced" recall on the clockspring contamination on my vehicle. The local ford dealership is stating that they do not have access to the parts to fix this issue, as it's an advanced warning. The issue is that the truck is having the malfunction. The buttons on the steering wheel do not work, which is now causing me to not be able to see the display b/c it's blocked by a warning, the airbag light is on which is an indication that it does not work. Ford won't look at it without charging $200 for diagnostics and then I will be responsible for paying for the repairs, even if it has to do with the recall. They aren't even sure if the truck can be repaired because they don't have the parts for the repair?????? This is a safety issue, and is basically forcing me to find another vehicle to drive since the airbags are showing they won't work. I also can't use the handsfree phone options since the buttons don't work on the steering wheel. Need to know when the parts are going to actually be available.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-350. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the diesel particulate filter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The contact related the failure to Customer Satisfaction Program: 20M06 (Diesel Particulate Filter Warranty Extension) however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.
My 2016 F350 tried to kill me! I was driving 58 mph on local Hwy 146 (where the speed limit is 60mph) with rainy conditions and put my blinker on to switch lanes and when doing so I ran over the reflective lane divider, located all down the roads for safety purposes that are designed to be drove on, my truck's steering wheel and front suspension began to violently and dangerously shaking uncontrollably! The issue was so aggressive I felt like my vehicle was going to flip! The other vehicles around me immediately recognized there was a problem and moved from around me and allowed me to pull my vehicle off to the side of the road finally slowing down and stopping. Once I got down to around 20 mph I was able to regain control of my truck and bring it to a complete stop. I was completely traumatized and fearful of continuing to drive the vehicle. I took the truck to a respectable mechanic shop right up the road from where the incident occurred and upon reviewing my truck the mechanic said he thinks it is what is referred to as the "Death Wobble," which I feel is appropriate because I truly thought I was going to die! The man said I should be okay to drive but to avoid going over 50 mph and to take it to a Ford dealer because they know of the issue/problem and are fixing it at no charge to customers, even though there has not been an official recall as of yet. While waiting to speak with a Ford representative I pulled videos of people experiencing the "Death Wobble" in their Ford
My truck has the death wobble for the second time now. I have had many ford trucks and this problem has been on all of the later models. It is extremely dangerous. Every ford dealership knows about the problem but Ford Motor Company does nothing about it. My truck shakes violently when I hit a bump in the road. I have to slow to almost a complete stop to get the truck to stop shaking. It will almost shake the steering wheel out of your hand and you can’t hardly steer it off the road to safety. Ford needs to do something about this before someone is severely injured or God forbid, killed.
I have now experienced what has been called the "Death Wobble" numerous times in the past month. Driving on the highway at speeds greater than 55, usually while driving around a very slight curve (although it has happened going straight), I hit a small bump in the road, and my steering wheel goes into a horrific shake. The vehicle becomes very hard to control, and the only correction is to slow it down to about 20 before it goes away. So far, there has always been a shoulder to do this in and I haven't been run over by a 18 wheeler yet. No warning lights or previous indication occurred before each incident. No one has looked at it yet. I am just starting to research the repair. A discussion with my local Ford dealer says it is not a warranteed repair.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F- 350. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V337000 (Air Bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. VIN tool displayed no unrepaired recall on the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 1,000.
Assuming something in suspension. Uncontrollable vibration in front suspension/steering of vehicle. Not as of yet for my vehicle. Did find many reports online referencing what I/we experienced. Scheduled to take into Dealer and local service facility for further inspection. No warnings of any kind. Around 65 -70 MPH there's VIOLENT vibration/shaking on the wheels making steering uncontrollable. Vibration continues till vehicle's speed is reduced to around 40 MPH. Seams to occur when tires experience bumps/imperfections in road. These bumps/imperfections are minor at that. I have now experienced this situation now 6 times. As previously mentioned, during research I found multiple YouTube videos other online references this situation as "Death Wobble". Multiple News affiliation have done reports on this experance/situation.
On 4/24/2022 I purchased a used 2016 Ford 350 super duty 4x4 to tow my 3 horse trailer, with around 86,000 miles on it. As I was driving on the freeway traveling about 65 mph. I went to pass a slow vehicle , went over the reflector bumps. The truck started violently shaking, I could barely control the truck. It felt like the tires were falling off. I had to stop in the emergency fast lane get out of the vehicle and check. I saw that the tires were fine. So I started to drive it again. I was able to get to the slow lane and drive again. I googled the problem and I had experienced the Ford Death Wobble. I was never told of such a dangerous problem or ever reported to Carfax. I would never of bought the vehicle If I would have known. This is a very serious problem. What can I do about it?
While idling at an intersection my truck will “lunge” forward requiring me to apply excessive braking to prevent the vehicle from going into oncoming traffic. Ford has acknowledged that they have a known service bulletin on this issue related to CEL P054F or SSM45540 which states that the idle control sensor is alerted that the torque converter is malfunctioning. Ford has replaced several 2016 F350 vehicles under warrantee but since mine failed after the 100k warrantee expired, they are unwilling to repair my vehicle under warrantee. Since this failure has such a significant potential human harm, I believe it should be repaired under recall or warrantee to protect the lives of 2016 F350 owners. My dealership has estimated $4,500 for the torque converter replacement and I would like your help to get Ford to acknowledge this defect and repair at no cost to the owner.
Ford Deaf Wobble is fierce.
The diesel exhaust fluid system, reductant heater and sender assembly. The truck went into a -idell reduced power mode ( 5 miles an hour) 25 miles from service at 2:00 AM 300 miles from home. The dealer has the truck. They towed it in September, 2021. they have had it for seven months. I need a TRUCK !!!!!!!! What is going on, this is unacceptable.I have been renting a car since Oct, 2021. Ford didn't offer me anything. The truck has 21,000 miles on it. Sell it and get me a new truck, I need a TRUCK.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-350. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH on the highway, the vehicle started jerking and shaking. The contact pulled off to the side of the roadway, turned the vehicle off, and waited to restart the vehicle and continued to drive safely for three miles before the failure recurred. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact drove to an independent mechanic and the vehicle was diagnosed; the contact was informed that the steering arm needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 51,695.
The emergency brake pads came off of the steel brake backing causing my rear tire to lock up. 1 of the 4 pads came off, broke and locked up the tire. After the repair I checked the other pads and noticed all 4 pads are coming off of the bonded steel emergency brakes. This is a very dangerous situation for anyone who experiences this situation while driving down the road.
My truck started severely shaking after reaching speeds of 50mph when driving over bumps in the road. Our mechanic replaced many front end suspension parts and it is still doing it. I have almost crashed numerous times. I have videos of this happening and almost crashing. This is NOT OK!
Vehicle was taken to Seaside Auto Repair, Satellite Beach FL to be looked at for problems it was having on the 24th of March. On 3/31/22 the using federal agency rec'd call to pick up vehicle at the shop as they could not figure out the problem and how to fix it. The agency picked up vehicle from shop. Agency started vehicle and drove to the Pest Mgmt Shop at Patrick AFB, As the vehicle crossed the main gate, the driver heard a strange noise coming from the driver side of the hood near the side mirror, sound got faster. As he approached Anvil Ave, all power to the vehicle went down leaving him with only brake and steering control. At the same time the driver saw flames spew from the driver side panel of the hood. He pulled over, exited vehicle and contacted base fire dept.
Vehicle fire started in engine compartment. Vehicle is a total loss
The 2016 model does not include a cabin air filter. It put me and my kids at risk. It puts the elderly, people with immune issues, kids, etc., at risk. I developed severe asthma at 37 years old and a non smoker. Over the past 4 years, driving the 2016 Ford 350, it came with unexplainable upper respiratory infections. I'm now on 2 types of inhalers. I spoke to Ford and they did not care that the 2016 model does not have a cabin filter. (If this was not a problem, then why does the models after 2016 come with one??) All I was hoping, is that Ford would add a cabin air filter to my truck. I'm not asking the company to pay the doctor bills or give me back 4 years of breathing. I'm just asking for the company to apply a piece of equipment to my truck that would help me breath and not directly take in all stuff coming in my truck. I literally smell everything. Everything comes through: Vehicle exhaust from other vehicles Chemicals in air Pollution while driving in cities (dallas) Pollen Dust Clay/dirt Smoke...fires burning...cigerate... Just driving on the interstate, other vehicle exhaust comes in. I turn ac off. (It gets hot inTexas) This sets off asthma attacks. Even if parked and someone has their truck running...the exhaust comes in. I'm considering talking to a lawyer about about this, since Ford will not consider my complaint and willing help me. However, I care about others. No kid should be inhaling exhaust or anything that can cause issues with the lungs. I wish Ford woul
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-350 SD. The contact stated that while driving at speeds exceeding 60 MPH, the vehicle would suddenly experience severe front-end vibration and shaking nearly causing the driver to lose control of the steering wheel. The failure had occurred on multiple occasions after driving over a bump in the road. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who installed torsion bars to the suspension however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
I was driving on the freeway and all of the sudden the front end started shaking violently like I hit washboard ruts on a dirt road at 70 mph. I have come to know this as the death wobble. Fortunately it was not very busy at the time this happened and I was able to get to the section between the onramp and the freeway. I am glad I was not pulling my trailer, it would probably caused an accident.
Purchased truck new/no wrecks/no modifications from factory stock/ approx 113k miles/proper tire inflation Sat Feb 5th driving approximately 70 miles per hour in heavy traffic /good weather on interstate near Indianapolis the truck began violently shaking on the front end transferred up through steering wheel. The interstate was 3 lanes wide with heavy traffic in all lanes. Miraculously I was able to get pulled into left median without causing an accident. Vehicle was out of control. Waited several minutes for a break in traffic pulled back out and slowly went to next exit to examine for damage causing this. Cursory Visual inspection showed no broken parts Ford evidently knows of this “death wobble” and has done nothing to notify or repair 2016 Super Duty Models. My unsafe truck is home parked in my garage.
When I hit a bump at speeds over 45 miles per hour the front end starts to shake so bad that I'm losing control of my vehicle, hitting the guard rail and have to hit the brakes immediately. Called the death wobble. I have replaced the shocks, the steering stabilizer and balanced the wheels and it still shakes very bad.
The truck has 43615 miles on it and the transmission don’t want to work
I have started experiencing the known “death wobble”. I have 68585 miles on truck.
After going over a bump in the road at 70 mph, vehicle began to shake violently. Unable to control the vehicle. Had to come to a complete stop. Checked tires, all tires were good and had good air pressure. Took the vehicle to repair shop. Repair shop referred to the 'Death Wobble' . They checked for any loose parts in the front suspension/steering and did not find any. They replaced the steering damper indicating sometimes this will fix the issue. Two months later I hit another bump at 70 mph, vehicle started shaking violently again for several seconds. Had to slow to under 50 mph for the shaking to stop.
I was driving through a construction area on interstate 95 and hit uneven pavement and the front of the vehicle starting shaking violently. It took everything I had to hold the steering wheel the shaking was so violent it rendered the brakes almost useless. Fortunately no one was next to me in the next lane because I could not control the vehicle and I had to ride the shaking out in both lanes until my speed came down do approximately 40 mph, Everything smoothed out and the vehicle began to operate normally. I knew I experienced the Ford Death Wobble because It has happened to many of my friends vehicles already and has been a topic of discussion amongst many of us which is why I brought it to the dealership immediately. If you google "Ford death Wobble" thousands of people are experiencing the same problem and they have a Facebook page dedicated to it. I brought it to the dealership and they verified the play in the front end and replaced the steering track ball joint. My friends who had this done have had the problem return so it is a temporary fix for a potentially very dangerous situation. I spoke with the mechanic and he said he does 5 of these a week. The repair cost me about $700 for a defective part or design by Ford.
While driving at 75 mph my truck started to vibrate violently causing me to lose control of the steering. I backed it down to 40 mph to get it to stop. I continue to drive 200 more miles and it happened again while driving 65 mph. My research shows that this is happened to many Ford F350 and F250 trucks. I just wanted to make sure that I document that this is happened to me.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-350. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle experienced the death wobble. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the passenger’s side track bar roller joint, passenger’s side tie rod, steering damper, and link boot to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 56,149.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
