Death wobble occurred over 50 mph after hitting bump while slightly turning left on highway
2019 Ford F-250 SD complaints
Owner reports filed with NHTSA about this vehicle, newest first and reproduced as filed. They are unverified accounts: one proves nothing, and a pattern across many is the thing worth reading. Back to the full 2019 record →
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-250. The contact stated while driving at 65 mph, the vehicle started to violently shake causing the contact to swerve into another lane. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with the drag link rod, the rod assembly, loose inner tie rod ends and the steering damper assembly needing to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 27,400.
Travelling 75 MPH on interstate (posted speed limit). entered onto a bridge and the front end started shaking violently, from the wheels all the way up to the steering wheel. Truck was hard to control and I had to pull over and reduce my speed to 20 MPH to stop the violent shaking. I was in the #1 lane and had to pull over across the #2 lane to reach a usable shoulder. Traffic was heavy and I became an immediate hazard to motorists around me. The truck has 29,000 miles on it.
On the morning of June 18, 2021 while my pregnant wife was driving down the highway our 2019 f250 began to violently shaking to the point she believed she was going to lose control of the vehicle with her and our three kids in the back seat. Luckily she made out of the Highway safely only to be stranded for over three hours. The vehicle was towed to Peques Ford where hopefully the can determine the malfunction/defect in a timely manner due to the fact that she is now stranded 8 hours away from our home in Florida. From research and from a gentleman that was driving beside my wife when the malfunction occurred believe that it’s what some people call the Ford “death wobble.”
Death wobble. Took it to the dealership and they “fixed” it. That fix lasted about a month.
Tailgate has opened over 30 times while driving. Recall 19s48 was preformed but problem persists. Dealer has attemped to repair 7 times. Tailgate opened on freeway leaving dealership 5 minutes after tailgate recall rewiring service. A computer memory box was installed until tailgate opened again then dash mounted tailgate switch was replaced twice. Tailgate has been damaged and repaired by dealer when opened at highway speeds while towing and contacted my trailer turning to get off the road. Very unsafe condition since truck is used primarily for towing. When tailgate drops down on highway I cannot turn vehicle of will damage tailgate and/or trailer. This forces me to pull over in emergency lane and close tailgate while vehicles drive by at speed. Ford customer care number was called and refered me to another dealer to attempt repair, but that dealer wants to charge me to diagnose problem. Ford motor company will not help in fixing this problem. Consumers need a class action lawsuit or something that will get FMC to honor recall commitment. FMC is not supporting local dealers attempt to fix problem and is making is making consumers pay the price.
At highway speed if I hit a bump on the road or was in a corner the steering started shaking very violently. Had to emergency brake down to 25-30 mph before it corrected. Happened 4 times on a 250 mile trip on 6/5/21 and once on a 250 mile drive on 6/6/21. The condition put us at risk of losing control of the truck and possibly crossing the center line and hitting oncoming traffic. This just occurred so the truck has not been inspected. There where no warning lamps or messages sent. The truck has 16600 miles on it and is available for inspection.
Experienced front wheel oscillation or "Death Wobble" . This occured at 70 MPH treveling on a straight portion of interstate highway after crosing an expansion joint between bridge and road
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-250. The contact stated while driving at various speeds over potholes, the front end of the vehicle would shake uncontrollably. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and was diagnosed with the steering dampener needing to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The contact then took the vehicle back to the dealer two months later where the steering dampener was replaced again. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact back to the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 21,000.
I was driving on route 78 East from Pennsy to NJ 5/27/2021 just crossed into NJ carrying a load of about 1400 pounds in bed of truck had cruise control set at 65mph when all of a sudden front of truck started to shake VIOLENTLY. Steering was shaking, dash board shaking and front of truck shaking. Had to almost go on the grass median because could not get over to right side lane because I was in the middle lane when this happened. All tractor trailers were on the side of me on right side lane so I was able to get over to the fast left lane and head into grass median when it stopped after I got down to 40 mph or less. With cars and trucks flying by me since I was only doing 40 mph in a 65 mph zone. Was able to get back over onto the far right lane next to the shoulder and started driving at 60 mph when all of a sudden it started to do it again. It stopped doing it again and was able to get back home 45 miles away from the initial incident. Got home and called Ford IMMEDIATELY to bring truck in. Truck only has 19000 miles which it turned on that hell of a scary trip. I could have killed myself or others the way I lost control of the steering. I couldn't even put my flashers on because I needed 2 hands on the wheel at all times during this incident. Truck is now at Ford dealership 6/1/2021 for service of this. NO lights or messages came on during this incident.
Truck tailgate has been opening on it’s own while I’m driving for several weeks. The first few times I thought I had maybe pushed the FOB in my pocket somehow. I pull a bumper pull trailer most of the time and I had been taking the FOB out of my pocket and setting it in my console so I would not “accidentally” open the tailgate. Over the weekend I ran to the store and when I put my truck in reverse I could see from the camera that the tailgate was already open, and the FOB was sitting inside my console. Today I’m pulling a trailer and the tailgate opened up again at some point and smashed the tailgate all up from it crushing against the jack on the trailer. FORD tells me my truck wasn’t involved in the recall that was issued for this already and yet my truck is experiencing the exact same thing with no recourse other than to file it on my insurance and get hit with a higher policy amount or pay for it out of pocket and from what I can see will cost several thousand dollars. A quick internet search shows there are far more than me that are having issues with this.
Death Wobles. It has happened 4 times now in the last three days. Very scary and very unsafe. Numerous times on a busy freeway outside of Sacramento, CA. Had to avoid trucks and they had to avoid me when i had to slow my vehicle down to 50 mph. Ford should take care of this issue immediately. What does it take? Some people to die before there is a recall?????????
Hit small bumps and the front end start shacking like a death wob you have to get on the break’s hard to control the vehicle Only have 16,000 miles on it
The radio has malfunctioned and now shows zero display and will not turn on or off. I have tried the various methods listed online to fix the issue but nothing has worked.
Traveling on i75 trading around 75mph, I am not sure what happened, but the truck started shaking violently. The steering wheel want shaking and was stiff to move, but I was able to get off the road and stop. After looking at the truck, nothing was wrong, I continued down the shoulder to see if the problem happened again. Since then it has not come up, but I am worried this might happen when I am hauling my 10k 5th wheel camper. After research, this issue looks to be the death wabble of the front end.
Took truck in for service recall 4 months ago for the damper rod - no parts. I wasn't having that much of an issue at the time, maybe a little bit of shaking of the wheel at highway speeds. Now, it is getting a lot worse. Anytime on the highway that I go through a dip or bump I get the wobbling of the wheel. Even worse when I am in a turn of the road and experience a bump/dip. I find this when approaching or leaving a bridge.
Back window blew out closing the drivers door
I had the recall for the unintended tailgate opening fixed at the dealer in July of 2020. However on multiple occasions I noticed the the tailgate would open unintentionally. I thought it was my key fob in my pocket getting activated , but soon dismissed that theory. The tailgate would sometimes open when I am shifting from Park to Drive. Several times it would open when I release the E brake. I have contacted the dealer, but all they can offer is " we'll take a look at it"
On numerous occasions while traveling at speeds at or above 50 mile per hour upon encountering a bump above grade or a pothole in the roadway surface the steering wheel shakes in a harmonic vibration that can only be stopped by drastically decreasing speed. The shaking has becoming a serious safety hazard. I purchased the vehicle one year ago with 19,000 miles indicated on the odometer, it now has 30,000 miles indicated and the steering shake has become a safety hazard. Ford has only acknowledged by offering an increased warranty of the steering dampener. The problem is much worse than a defective steering shock. Recently I encountered this problem in a construction zone and it nearly caused a multi-vehicle crash involving not only my vehicle but tractor-trailer rigs as well. Ford needs to address this problem that is well documented and has been named the “Death Wobble” BEFORE the name is well earned.
When driving I came across a rough patch in the roadway. I was doing about 60- 65 mph when suddenly the front end starting shaking. I had to grab the steering wheel with both hands and apply the brakes to gain control of the vehicle
AFTER DRIVING OVER BUMPS ON THE FREEWAY THE TRUCK START SHAKING VIOLENTLY. IT WAS HARD TO CONTROL AND HAD TO SLOW DOWN TO 15 MPH TO GET IT TO STOP.
While accelerating onto onramp on IH35 South of Ft Worth my truck went over a small bump. Speed was approx 65mph at that point and a violent shaking started. I pulled over and slowed and it stopped after I slowed to approx 40mph. I got out and inspected but found nothing. I got back to hwy speeds and about 20 minutes later hit another bump in hwy. Same issue: Violent shaking of front end/Steering Wheel. Luckily I was in far right lane and was able to control vehicle until I could slow enough to make it stop.
2019 Ford F250. Consumer writes regarding low fuel pressure gauge. THAT CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE BECAME FULLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES AND WAS DESTROYED. WHILE DRIVING THE CONSUMER SAW SMOKE EMITTING FROM THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY THE MANUFACTURER.
DEATH WOBBLE, VIOLENT SHAKING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AFTER SMALL BUMP IN ROAD
THE TRUCK REACTS VERY STRONGLY WHEN DRIVING 60-70 MILES PER HOUR AND HITTING A ROUGH PATCH OR POOR ROAD SURFACE. THIS RESULTS IN STEERING PULLING TO ONE SIDE/VEERING, EXTREME VIBRATION AND SHAKING THROUGHOUT THE TRUCK. I HAVE TO HANG ON TO THE STEERING WHEEL TO KEEP IT IN THE LANE AND LIFT THE FOOT OFF THE GAS WHILST IT SETTLES DOWN TO DRIVING SMOOTHLY AND BACK IN CONTROL AGAIN. ONLINE I SEE THAT THIS IS REFERRED COMMONLY TO 'DEATH WOBBLE'. IT IS GETTING WORSE AND MAKES ME CONCERNED RE DRIVING AT HIGHER SPEEDS AS IT IS DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE TRUCK STRAIGHT / NOT BOUNCING UP AND DOWN. IT HAS HAPPENED 6-8 TIMES IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS SINCE MAR 2021 - IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT ON THE INTERSTATE WITH A ROUGH SURFACE.
TRUCK SHAKES VIOLENTLY WHILE ON THE ROAD AND STOPS SHAKING AFTER IT SLOWS DOWN.
MY TRUCK WAS PARKED LAST NIGHT AND I CAME OUT TO IT THE MORNING AND MY REAR HEATED SLIDING GLASS WINDOW WAS SHATTERED
APPROXIMATELY 5 TIMES IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS I HAVE EXPERIENCED "DEATH WABBLE" WITH MY F250, IN THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT, I ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER HITTING A BUMP AT HIGHWAY SPEED, I EXPERIENCED AN OSCILLATION IN THE FRONT WHEELS, CAUSING VIOLENT SHAKING, THAT WOULD NOT STOP UNTIL I STOPPED THE TRUCK. FORD TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRUCK.
I WAS DRIVING ALONE E ON IL RT 64 AT ABOUT 2:45 PM WHEN I HIT A SERIES OF BUMPS ON ROAD THAT MADE THE FRONT END SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY. I HAD TO BRAKE AND SLOW TO UNDER 20 MPH BEFORE IT STOPPED. AGAIN LATER THAT NIGHT AT ABOUT 8 PM COMING S ON IL RT 2 WITH CRUISE SET AT 55 MPH IT HAPPENED AGAIN HAD TO BRAKE/SLOW TO UNDER 20 MPH AGAIN. THIS TIME MY WIFE AND MOTHER-IN-LAW WERE WITH TO EXPERIENCE IT. I HAVE NOTICED FRONT END BEING A LITTLE WISHY-WASHY AFTER HITTING BUMPS BUT THOUGHT IT WAS DUE TO STIFFER SUSPENSION AFTER EXPERIENCING THIS I DON'T BELIEVE THAT IS THE CASE. VEHICLE HISTORY SO FAR- PURCHASED USED FROM WICKSTROM FORD. WENT THRU THEIR USED CAR INSPECTION BEFORE I COULD PURCHASE IT- NEW REAR TIRES AND BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS ALL AROUND. WILL TRY GETTING IN TO HAVE CHECKED OUT AND TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR STEERING DAMPER PERFORMED. HAVE PUT LESS THAN 600 MILES ON TRUCK SINCE PURCHASING.
WHEN I HIT A BUMP OR UNEVEN LANES (50-60MPH) MY TRUCKS MY FRONT END VIOLENTLY SHAKES AND MAKES MY VEHICLE HARD TO HANDLE. AT LOWER SPEEDS 20-50 WHEN I HIT A BUMP OR UNEVEN LANES THE TRUCK WILL SHIFT TO THE SIDE THE BUMP HIT ALMOST LIKE DRIVING ON ICE.
I AM EXPERIENCING SEVERE DEATH WOBBLE. IT HAPPENED 6 TIMES ON THE INTERSTATE BETWEEN 4/24/2021 AND 4/25/2021. IT IS VIOLENT STEERING WHEEL OSCILLATION AND TRUCK VIBRATION. IT HAPPENED BETWEEN SPEEDS OF 65-75MPH. MY TRUCK ONLY HAS 32000 MILES ON IT. FORD HAS RECALLED THE STEERING LINKAGE DAMPENER. I'M AFRAID THIS REPLACEMENT WILL ONLY FIX THE PROBLEM FOR A FEW THOUSAND MILES AND THEN I WILL HAVE TO COVER COSTS OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY. I PLANNED ON KEEPING THIS TRUCK FOR A WHILE BUT IT IS DANGEROUS. IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN TOWING MY GOOSENECK TRAILER, I WOULD HAVE LIKELY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. IT COULD HAVE INJURED OR KILLED MYSELF, MY FAMILY, OR OTHER MOTORISTS. I HAVE A VIDEO OF THE INCIDENT, BUT I CAN'T UPLOAD IT HERE. THE FORD TECHNICIAN SAID IT WAS THE WORST HE HAD SEEN.
I HAVE EXPERIENCED WHAT MANY REFER TO AS THE "DEATH WOBBLE" NUMEROUS TIMES INCLUDING WHEN TOWING MY CAMPER WITH MY WIFE AND KIDS IN THE TRUCK. HITTING A BUMP OR SEAM IN THE ROAD AT OR APPROACHING HIGHWAY SPEEDS SENDS THE TRUCK STEERING INTO A VIOLET SHAKING THAT CAUSES ALMOST A COMPLETE LOSS OF CONTROL. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER AND THEY TELL ME IT IS NOT COVERED AND THAT I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE NUMEROUS STEERING COMPONENTS ON MY 2019 F250 WITH LESS THAN 50K MILES ON THE ODOMETER. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE FOR ME AND MY FAMILIES SAFETY LET ALONE OUR MONTHLY BUDGET. IT APPEARS FORD IS PUTTING CORPORATE PROFITS OVER THE SAFETY OF ITS LOYAL CUSTOMERS.
UPON ENTERING THE FREEWAY, THE TRUCK STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY AND WAS NEARLY OUT OF CONTROL. I PULLED TO THE SIDE, STOPPED, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, RESTARTED, AND CONTINUED ON. THE DEATH WOBBLE STOPPED FOR THE MOMENT.
AFTER ENGINE OIL CHANGE AT DEALER, TECH ADVISED OF POSSIBLE BAD TRANSMISSION PAN GASKET. TOOK BACK TO DEALER AND THEY SUPPOSEDLY FIX PROBLEM COMING FROM TORQUE CONVERTER SEAL. GOT HOME AND INSPECTED IT AND FOUND SAME LEAK. CALLED DEALER AND TOOK BACK IN. AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION DETERMINED LEAK COMING FROM TRANSFER CASE AND TRANSMISSION. ORDERED MORE SEALS AND O RINGS. PARTS ON BACK ORDER FOR A MONTH. TECH NOT SURE WHERE LEAK IS COMING FROM. 2019 F250 ONLY HAS 14800 MILES.
TRAVELING AT ABOUT 60 MPH, HIT A ROUGHER SPOT ON THE HIGHWAY AND TRUCK BEGAN TO VIBRATE UNCONTROLLABLY. I SLOWED TO APPROXIMATELY 35 AND IT WENT AWAY. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK WITH 19,000 MILES ON IT, AND IT NOW HAS 32,000. I DID SOME RESEARCH, AND IT IS THE 'DEATH WOBBLE."
VIOLENT SHAKING AT A SPEED OF 72MPH, SHAKING STOPPED ONCE SLOWED TO 50MPH. ISSUE HAS BEEN REFERRED TO AS THE DEATH WOBBLE. MY TRUCK ONLY HAS 18330 MILES ON IT.
TRAVELLING APPROXIMATELY 70MPH ON THE INTERSTATE, I CROSSED A SMALL BUMP IN THE INTERSTATE WHICH CAUSED THE TRUCK TO START SHAKING VIOLENTLY, I TRIED TO CONTROL THE TRUCK BUT WAS LOSING CONTROL AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I THEN HIT THE BRAKES TO DECELERATE THE TRUCK AND IT SEEMED LIKE THE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS NOT FUNCTIONING AS IT NEEDED TO. THE SHAKING AND VIBRATION DID NOT STOP UNTIL I WAS UNDER 35MPH I HAD TO GET INTO THE LEFT EMERGENCY LANE TO AVOID CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I SAT THERE FOR A FEW MOMENTS TO GATHER MY SELF UP GOT OUT OF MY TRUCK CHECKED ALL 4 TIRES TO VERIFY NONE WERE FLAT AND PROCEEDED TO DRIVE AT APPROXIMATELY 50MPH BACK TO MY RESIDENCE, WHERE I PARKED MY TRUCK UNTIL I DELIVERED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP ON MONDAY MORNING TO ASSES THE TRUCK AND ALLOW THEM THE OPPERTUNITY TO MAKE NESSECARY REPAIRS. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO THIS PARTICULAR TRUCK. THE FIRST SCENARIO WAS PULLING A CAMPER ON THE INTERSTATE APPROXIMATELY 70MPH AND I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER AND REGAIN CONTROL AT APPROXIMATELY 35MPH. IT WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED A STEERING DAMPENER AND CHECKED ALL SYSTEMS FOR PROPER FUNCTION. APPARENTLY THE PROBLEM WAS NOT ADDRESSED CORRECTLY BUT WAS TOLD THAT IT COULD BE MULTIPLE FACTORS CAUSING THE "DEATH WOBBLE" AS THE DEALERSHIP CALLED IT. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NO CORRECT SOLUTION BUT MORE OF A TRIAL AND ERROR FIX.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2019 FORD F-250 SUPER-DUTY ON THE HIGHWAY AT NIGHT I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY THE TOUCH SCREEN RADIO DISPLAY BRIGHTNESS INTENSIFIED SO BRIGHT THAT IT APPEARED AS IF A HEADLIGHT WAS INSIDE THE CAR. WHEN THAT HAPPENED, I FOUND MYSELF TEMPORARILY NIGHT BLINDED AND I STRUGGLED TO HOLD POSITION IN MY LANE. I TRIED TO TURN THE RADIO OFF WITH NO SUCCESS. I MOMENTARILY SWITCHED THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH OFF AND ON WHICH NORMALLY DIMS THE RADIO DISPLAY BUT THAT DIDN'T HELP EITHER. I GRABBED A TOWEL FROM INSIDE THE CAB AND LAID IT OVER THE DASH AND RADIO SO I COULD BLOCK THE LIGHT AND DRIVE. THERE WAS NO PRIOR MALFUNCTION OR INDICATION OF IMPENDING ISSUE. SINCE THE OCCURRENCE, I HAVE LEARNED THAT FORD HAS A WIDELY KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE SYNC 3 SYSTEM ALONG WITH NUMEROUS FAILED APIM MODULES. UNFORTUNATELY THEY HAVE NOT ISSUED A RECALL. THIS IS A SERIOUS HAZARD AND I WANTED TO LET OTHER CONSUMERS BE AWARE OF THE DANGER.
I HAD A 2006 F250 SUPER DUTY WITH ONLY 120K MILES ON IT THAT WAS A DIESEL THAT HAD THE DEATH WOBBLE. FORD'S FIX FOR IT WAS TO SEND ME A LETTER SAYING TO SLOW DOWN AND MASH ON THE BRAKES. I FINALLY SOLD THAT BECAUSE IT ALSO HAD MAJOR ENGINE PROBLEMS AS WELL FOR THE ENTIRE LIFE OF THE TRUCK. I BOUGHT A 6.2L 2019 F250 NEW BECAUSE I WANTED A RELIABLE VEHICLE TO TRAVEL ACROSS STATES WITH MY FAMILY AND DOG. JUST HAPPENED TO ME 3 DAYS AGO WITH EVERYONE IN THE TRUCK AND IT WAS MUCH MORE VIOLENT. LUCKILY I HAD A PLACE TO PULL OVER ON A TWO LANE ROAD AND DID NOT GET IN HEAD ON. PRETTY UPSET WITH FORD AS THEY KNOWINGLY SELL THESE TRUCKS WITH EXISTING ISSUES THAT ARE DANGEROUS. TRUCK SHAKES VIOLENTLY OUT OF CONTROL AND PLACES THE PEOPLE INSIDE IN A VERY DANGEROUS POSITION. THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN ME DONE TO STOP THE SHAKING IN THE FRONT END. THIS IS KNOWN TO MANY AS THE DEATH WOBBLE AND SHOULD DEALT WITH. THIS TRUCK WAS MOVING AT SPEED OF 60MPH ON A FLAT, STRAIGHT, SMOOTH ROAD.
WHILE DRIVING ON I-90 IN OHIO AT APPROXIMATELY 65MPH, I STRUCK A SMALL POTHOLE WITH THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT TIRE. THE TRUCK BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. I BUMPED THE BRAKES AND THE SHAKING GOT EVEN WORSE AND STEERING WAS DIFFICULT. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER AND HAD TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP TO GET IT TO STOP. I DROVE THE TRUCK AFTERWARDS APPROXIMATELY 700 MILES HOME. I WAS CAREFUL TO AVOID BUMPS OR HOLES, BUT BRIDGE SEAMS CAUSED A SIMILIAR PROBLEM MANY TIMES, ALTHOUGH NOT AS VIOLENT AS THE FIRST TIME. FORD HAS A SERVICE NOTIFICATION THAT THEY WILL REPLACE THE STEERING DAMPENER IF YOU EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM, BUT IT DID NOT FEEL LIKE A DAMPENER PROBLEM. I'LL ALLOW THEM TO DO IT, BUT SUSPECT I'LL HAVE MORE ISSUES.
AT SPEEDS ABOVE 55 MILES AN HOUR WHEN I HIT A SMALL BUMP I WOULD EXPERIENCE DEATH WOBBLE. THE VEHICLE AND STEERING WHEEL WITH SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND WOULD NOT STOP UNTIL I SLOWED BELOW 30 MILES PER HOUR. HERE IS A LINK TO A VIDEO OF ONE OF THE MANY INSTANCES THIS HAPPENED. FORD DID NOT FIX THIS FOR OVER TWO MONTHS BECAUSE THEY SAID IT WAS FIXED THE FIRST TIME AND THEN THE PARTS WERE BACKORDERED. HTTPS://YOUTU.BE/8UCEGIR7T8E THE SEAT WILL WOBBLE AND MAKE A CLICKING SOUND
WHILE DRIVING AT 70MPH ON I-565 IN HUNTSVILLE, AL, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AFTER DRIVING OVER A ROUGH SPOT IN THE HIGHWAY. STEERING WHEEL WAS SHAKING AND VEHICLE WAS SHAKING. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE, AND THE SHAKING STOPPED AND DID NOT REOCCUR.
DEATH WOBBLE WHEN HITTING BUMPS AT HIGHWAY SPEED. TRUCK HAS 8K MILES ON IT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 FORD F-250. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE DEATH WOBBLE WHILE DRIVING OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD. THE CONTACT CONTINUED DRIVING TO HIS DESTINATION. THE CONTACT CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER - GULF COAST FORD (3000 N, STATE HWY 288, ANGLETON, TX 77515, (713) 422-7200) AND MADE THE DEALER AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 28,000.
TWICE NOW WHEN WE HAVE BEEN ON I75 IN BRANDON, FL , WE CAME OVER A ROUGH PATCH OF ROAD AT 60 OR 65 MPH AND THE TRUCK BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY MAKING STEERING EXTREMELY DIFFICULT AND HORRIFYING. BOTH TIMES WE HAD TO PULL OVER ACROSS MULTIPLE LANES OF TRAFFIC TO THE SHOULDER AND COME TO COMPLETE STOP. WE THOUGHT WE HAD LOST THE TREAD ON A TIRE OR HAD SOME OTHER TIRE ISSUE. WE DIDN'T. WHEN WE STARTED AGAIN, THE TRUCK DROVE FINE. IT HAS ALSO BECOME SLIGHTLY UNRESPONSIVE GOING BUMPS ON THE HIGHWAY PREVIOUSLY BUT I HADN'T CORRELATED THE EVENTS. I HAVE NOW SINCE FINDING OUT ABOUT THE STEERING DAMPENER ISSUE. OUR DEALERSHIP IN FT MYERS, FL WILL NOT FIX IT UNTIL 5/6/21.
THE FORD DEATH WOBBLE. WAS DRIVING AT 65 ON I 5 OVER THE ALTAMONT AND LOST CONTROL OF STEERING HAD TO HIT BRAKES TO SLOW TO 45 TO GET VEHICLE BACK UNDER CONTROL. HAD SEVERAL VEHICLES THAT HAD TO SLAM ON THEIR BRAKES ALMOST CAUSING EXTREME ACCIDENTS. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THIS IS HAPPENED AND IT IS GETTING WORSE AND HARDER TO CONTROL.
UNATTENDED TAILGATE. TAIL GATE OPENS ON ITS OWN AFTER SAFETY RECALL WAS PREFORMED. DEALER CAN'T REPRODUCE ISSUE. TAIL GATE OPENS RANDOMLY. MY TAIL GATE IS DAMAGED. FORD REFUSING TO SOLVE ISSUE. I READ AN ARTICLE ABOUT YOUR AGENCY HAVING SAME COMPLAINTS AFTER RECALL WAS PERFORMED. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN RIGHT WHEN I START THE TRUCK AND PUT INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE.
EXPERIENCED VIOLENT SHAKING OF THE VEHICLE ON HIGHWAY. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES AT SPEEDS OVER 50 MPH. WE BELIEVE THIS IS WHAT IS COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS 'DEATH WOBBLE'. THIS IS A VERY SCARY EVENT. I AM SO SURPRISED THAT THE NHTSA HAS NOT FORCED FORD TO DO A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE.
I AM ON MY SECOND HOOD. THE FACTORY HOOD STARTED FAILING AT THE LATCH. THE HOOD BEGINS TO CRACK OUT AROUND THE LOOP THAT LOCKS INTO THE LATCH. IT CAME APART STRUCTURE WISE AND I HAD IT REPLACED. NO RECALLS WERE FOUND IN ANY SYSTEM. THIS ISN'T THE ONLY TRUCK IN OUR FLEET THAT HAS DONE THIS. WE'VE HAD TWO OTHERS. NOW, AFTER A RECENT REPLACEMENT, HERE I AM AGAIN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. HOOD IS CRACKING OUT AGAIN, AROUND THE HOOP AND IT FLIES UP AND 'DANCES' IN THE WIND AND ESPECIALLY PASSING SEMI TRUCKS. THIS HAS TO BE A RECALL AND I CANNOT BE THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS TROUBLE. HOOD FEELS AS IF IT WILL BREAK AWAY AND END UP ON THE WIND SCREEN. PICTURE BELOW IS OF THE ORIGINAL FACTORY HOOD.
WHILE GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 55MPH THE TRUCK STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AFTER HITTING A SMALL BUMP. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND STOP FOR THE SHAKING TO STOP. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED AROUND AND WENT HOME. ON THE WAY HOME I EXPERIENCED IT MULTIPLE TIMES. THE TRUCK IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP. AFTER RESEARCH IT APPEARS THE EXPERIENCE IS REFERRED TO AS THE 'DEATH WOBBLE'. IT IS A VERY SCARY EXPERIENCE WHEN YOUR FAMILY IS IN THE TRUCK WITH YOU.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
