This truck when shifting from 4th to 5th will snap your neck! sometimes it just slips in gear., when I back up ity will stop like its in neutral and then bang into gear. sometimes you pull out on the road and it will not go just sit in neutral then bank in gear and take off. This is totally unsafe with this 10 speed trans.

On [XXX] I [XXX] started my truck and left my job at Publix Supermarket in Lake City, Fl. As I turned out of the shopping plaza, My 2020 Ford F-150 felt like it was about to lose power. As I turned into [XXX]. The truck shifted from the first gear, to the second smoothly, as the truck shifted from 2-3 , the truck revved and did not engage into 3rd gear. I let off the gas thinking it was going to catch the next gear and continue to increase speed. but it did not, again it revved and did not engage into 3rd gear. now the traffic was flying past me, i pushed the accelerator to the floor in attempt to avoid an accident. and not get rear ended. After several seconds , the transmission engaged and the truck began to move forward at a slow pace. This is when i received a notification for Ford Pass app, saying the power train malfunction/ reduced power. I was able to get the truck to the closest gas station. where I shut it off. After several minutes, I restarted the truck and drove back to work with no issues. The next day I took it to a local shop, where they indicated that I needed a new transmission. Since then, this vehicle has been in the shop multiple times for the same issue. This will be the 3rd Valve body replaced. Its unsafe to be on the road. Its a safety hazard. The listed vehicle uses approximately 1 quart of oil every 500 miles, which is a grossly large consumption of oil. This same issue occurred with two other vehicles in our fleet with a similar make and model. One vehicle corrected itself over time. The other uses approximately 3 quarts of oil every 5000 miles. This issue has been confirmed and unable to be fixed by our city's vehicle shop since we obtained the vehicle in January of 2020. Over consumption of oil could cause the oil to run dry while in use, possibly causing the engine to overheat, permanent engine damage, engine seizure, etc.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the windshield wipers were inoperable. No warning light was illuminated. When clicking lock and unlock on the key fob or door panel, all doors lock and unlock EXCEPT the driver door. It does not move no matter what you do. Replaced the fuse and that did nothing. This truck is approx 5 years old and should not have electrical failing like this.
Transmission shifts harshly when increasing speed. The vehicle will jump or feel jerky when accelerating. One incident of loosing complete power from transmission when turning corner. When stopping the transmission causes the vehicle to push forward. This vehicle has only 17,300 miles.
Repeated failure of transmission after multiple repairs.
A ticking, rattling, or knocking noise from the engine The noise occurs when starting the engine after a long period of inactivity and when the engine is idling after warming up.

Got into my truck as normal and closed the driver side door, only to find the notification on the dash that the driver side door was still ajar. While driving, the alert just keeps sounding off and the dome lights will not go off. It appears that the door latch sensor is faulty, or at least that seems to be the consensus from the dealership. But I've also read that it could potentially be the wiring harness. Safety is at risk because this creates many distractions while trying to drive. The lights stay on, there is constant alerts going off on the dash, and notifications pop up every time I stop or slow down, and I have to manually set my dash back to the odometer so I can see how fast I'm going. 3 separate distractions all from 1 issue. The dealership just wants to replace the door latch because the sensor is built in. But they state it is a common occurrence, and there are plenty of instances just like this online. I am taking my truck to the dealership tomorrow to have them look and potentially replace the door latch because I can't handle the constant alerts while driving. There was no prior indicators to this issue. I drove my truck to work just fine, parked it, and went to get in it at lunch and then the problems began. Out of nowhere.
Shifting became erratic i lost 9th and 10th gears with hard shifts to 4th and 7th ,,ford dealer said it is cdf drum in tranny.. and it is just over 60000 and not covered..that is 8300 dollars out of my pocket.
Since my initial purchase in 2020 I have had issues with the 10-speed transmission. The vehicle often shifts hard from gear to gear, banging harshly, and the vehicle pauses between gears while driving. While my vehicle was under warranty, I had the truck in the Ford dealers shop 5-7 times for that issue with no resolution. I even spoke with Ford back then about this and what happens after the warranty runs out. Even when I had my truck serviced (for my transmission) by another Ford dealership, I heard the comment "Oh yeah, it's the 10-speed transmission". Well, here I am, and my truck has consistently maintained the symptoms even after "repairs" were performed by the dealership, now the truck is so bad it is a road hazard for other vehicles by pausing, shifting out of nowhere, and such poor performance that I had to take it back to Ford and was told that the Transmission needs rebuilt...money out of my pocket that Ford should have fixed while under warranty. Will a rebuild really resolve the recurring issues??? While investigating this issue I found this this is a recurring topic on several forums and even your site lists numerous complaints of this known issue by many Ford owners experiencing the same exact same issues with this transmission. With the volume of complaints, how is this not a recall? Is there any other recourse for us?
Ford’s 10R80 Transmission is PLAGUED with issues. I own a 2020 Ford F-150 with the 2.7L V6 engine that has the 10R80 Transmission and this car has nearly gotten me in a T-Bone collision on NUMEROUS separate occasions. The transmission will slip as you’re first starting to accelerate, giving you zero control over the car and the RPMS will shoot up surpassing red line. This transmission is extremely clunky and downshifts extremely rough as well. This transmission is genuinely a safety concern when at intersections, accelerating from a turn etc. This transmission needs a recall IMMEDIATELY as I’ve talked to a LOT of other F-150 and other Ford owners that have the same 10R80 transmissions and have the exact same issues. This is a SAFETY CONCERN for ALL Ford owners with the 10R80 Transmission!!!
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the transmission failed, and the vehicle failed to properly accelerate. Additionally, there was white smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle before the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the local mechanic who determined that the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. The transmission was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 46,000.
In March 2024, my F150 started hard/miss shifting. Between 3,4 & 5 gear. Ticket to Mount Ford dealer and they informed me the that the transmission need to be either rebuilt or replaced.I was informed parts to rebuild were on back order. Because Ford was having lots of issues with the 10R80 10 speed transmission. So I had to get a remanufactured one.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing excessive oil consumption. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming 2 quarts of oil each 1,300 miles driven. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where an oil consumption test was performed, and the dealer confirmed that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of oil. The dealer determined that the engine needed to be replaced; however, the repair was not covered under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
Transmission hard shifting and shifting from 7th gear down to 1st, this is dangerous!! Vehicle is available.
Transmission issue, took it into the shop not for the issue. Dealer called and stated transmission is making a noise and should be repaired/replaced. This is an everyday vehicle used 90% on highway driving. No warning signs or devices.
When the vehicle is cold, and the transmission has not yet warmed up, putting the truck into gear results in a significant jerk. Specifically: Initial Gear Engagement (Drive/Reverse): When shifting into either drive or reverse from park, especially when the engine is cold, there is a noticeable delay before the gear engages. This delay is followed by a harsh "jerk" or "thud" as the gear finally engages. Reverse to Drive Transition: When shifting from reverse to drive, a similar delay and jerk occurs before drive engages. Hard Shifting: In addition to the initial engagement issues, the transmission exhibits delayed and harsh shifting for several minutes when cold. Shifting is not smooth and seems delayed then shifts very hard and aggressively when driving during the warm up period. Clunking Noises: While driving, I intermittently hear clunking noises when the transmission shifts gears. This occurs at [ Mention the specific times or driving scenarios when you observe this - e.g., "low speeds," "during upshifts/downshifts," "when accelerating," etc. ]. These problems are most pronounced when the engine and transmission are cold and seem to gradually improve (though not completely disappear) as the vehicle warms up. I am concerned that these symptoms indicate a serious problem with the transmission. I have asked a Ford Dealer to look at this and they state that there is NO RECALL for my VIN #. They have always appeared since I purchased this truck.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the transmission experienced erratic shifting between the 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced or rebuilt. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 100,000.
Cam phasers sensors have failed three times and repaired each time. Caused the engine to stall and accelerate poorly. The third time they failed a part was defected the dealer claimed. All this work was covered under the powertrain warranty. My safety could have been at risk as my vehicle did sputter and wouldn’t accelerate at enough speed to keep up with traffic. Although I was not in an accident or hurt at this time. Yes, engine light has came on, on each occurrence. My powertrain warranty through ford will expire shortly and I’m afraid I will be left with a large repair bill if this issue occurs again soon.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact noticed water leaking from the top of the vehicle located near the microphone and the sunroof control area. The contact noticed water leaking from the area while it was raining. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Cam Phasers need to be replaced due to knocking sound. The problem was reproduced by an independent service center. Check engine light is displayed. This issue is under recall for ford f 150 3.5 however we own a 5.0. The same issue is occurring in our vehicle.
Dash screen went blank while driving engine has a sound like lifters rattling vehicle lost all electrical connectivity and then it finally came back on no other instances
The rearview camera is and impossible to see when the sun hits it or after dark During the day it is blurry half way up. Been cleaned over and over and makes no difference. Dealer says this is the way it is. I have and own several fords with no issues like this.
2020 Ford F150 83,000 miles Automatic Transmission 10R80 loses power driving while shifting at multiple different speeds. Causes vehicle transmission to disengage while driving on the freeway and over rev engine. Sometime vehicle will not engage from full stop or slow start. Causes extreme jerking when finally engaging transmission. Vehicle gave me whiplash upon engaging. Cannot rely on transmission operation in any traffic condition.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle shuddered abnormally. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The described vehicle uses approximately 3 quarts of oil every 5000 miles, which is an over consumption of oil. This same issue occurred in another vehicle that we own which has the same year, make and model, but the issue appears to have fixed itself over time in the other vehicle. This issue is still a problem with this vehicle. This issue has been confirmed and unable to be fixed by our city's vehicle shop since we obtained the vehicle in February of 2020. This over consumption issue has been present since the vehicle's purchase. Over consumption of oil could cause oil to run dry while in use, possibly causing the engine to overheat, permanent engine damage, engine seizure, etc.
While driving on the highway the truck shut off. A message appeared (Auto StartStop Shift to P, Then Restart Engine) This is an ongoing issue. It has happened three times already while driving. After the error message appears I stop, the turn the truck back on and it works perfectly. The issue is that the truck turns of while going at any speed. I have already replaced the battery.
Front windshield camera malfunction. Vehicle only had 61,000 miles.
Driving at approximately 20 miles miles per hour going up a slight incline per engine shut-off. I applied the brakes placed the transmisson in neutral and turned the ignition key to start, the engine started. Had some hesitation at first, but the engine continued to run normal after.
The transmission is currently at dealership having transmission replaced at only 54,000 miles. The truck started experiencing rough shift, sometimes taking a few seconds to actually go into gears 4-6. While on the highway, I had to use extra caution merging on or off the interstate because of the delay in changing gears. The dealership shop has told me the CDF drum is damaged internally and they are replacing it with a re-manufactured transmission.

On [XXX] I took the truck to Ford dealer after noticing the front floor passenger side carpet was wet and door locks and electronic tire pressure indicator failed to operate correctly. Ford service dept found a/c drain was letting water back into passenger compartment and caused body control module (bcm) failure. Bcm was replaced after 2 1/2 months in the service dept. Returned on 8/26/24, 9/18/24, and 10/22/24 for same water intrusion problem. Different repair done on 10/22/24 to remedy problem. Service dept contacted Ford national office and learned this was considered a design flaw by Ford. Expected a recall will be issued. Remedial treatment for mold was applied because I had been smelling a vinegar smell in the truck cab which is typical smell for presence of mold. This is the primary safety issue I believe exists, but failure of body control module could cause other safety problems. . No recall issued yet.
Violent stutter switching into 3rd gear. Truck bogs down/flares in 5,7,8,9 gears. This could cause a major accident leading to a crash involving this vehicle and others.

The contact related the failures to Ford Customer Satisfaction Program 24E12 however the VIN was not eligible for a second repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.
MY SONS 2020 FORD F150 FELT LIKE IT WAS LOSING POWER. AS I TURNED ONTO HIGHWAY. THE TRUCK SHIFTED FROM THE FIRST GEAR TO SECOND GEAR SMOOTHLY, ASTHE TRUCK SHIFTED FROM 2-3 , THE TRUCK REVED AND DID NOT ENGAGE INTO 3RD GEAR. I LET OFF THE GAS, THINKING IT WILL CATCH THE NEXT GEAR AND CONTINUE TO INCREASE SPEED. BUT IT DID NOT, IT AGAIN REVED AND DID NOT ENGAGE INTO 3RD GEAR. NOW THE TRAFFIC WAS FLYING PAST ME, I PRESSED THE ACCELATOR TO THE FLOOR IN AN ATTEMPT TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT AND NOT BE REARENDED. AFTER SEVERAL SECONDS, THE TRANSISSION ENGAGED AND THE TRUCK BEGAN TO MOVE FORWARD AT A SLOW PACE. THIS IS WHEN I NOTICED ON MY FORDPASS APP, SAYING POWETRAIN MALFUNCTION/REDUCED POWER. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE TRUCK TO THE CLOSEST GAS STATION, WHERE I SHUT THE TRUCK OFF. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES, I RESTARTED THE TRUCK AND DROVE THE TRUCK TO WORK WITH NO ISSUES. THE NEXT DAY, I TOOK THE TRUCK TO A LOCAL TRANSMISSION SHOP. WHERE THEY INDICATED THE TRANSMISSION WAS SHOT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED OR REBUILT.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
