What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - The transmission was jerking forward and taking a long time to shift. Including not shifting out of 3rd gear and almost locking tires when coming to a stop. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? - Pulling out onto a highway with little then getting stuck in 3rd gear. Cars had to make quick reactions because my car would not go. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? - yes, I have had it looked at by Certified Ford technicians. They say the transmission should be replaced, and that this is a widespread problem with Ford F150s and other models that use their 10-speed transmission. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? - Ford Dealership. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? - No warning lights, no check engine, nothing.

I was driving on a congested thoroughfare during rush hour on a Friday night. My truck became unresponsive and the steering wheel locked up. The truck made a screeching stop. With over 100 cars behind me honking. I was unable to drive car off the road shoulder in a safe location. The cars electrical system when dead. With very limited battery life on my phone, I worked to to solve this problem. Luckily I had a few tools in the truck and was able to dismantle the all of the underdash plastic and metal components in about 1 hr with cachophany of honking and yelling with ever car. No stopped to help. I had to push the vehicle approx a quarter of a mile on a moderate incline and jump in the cab without power steering and coast down a side street. I had to learn how to put the car in neutral this way to move. This is Friday night and unable to get a towing service provider to my location, I had to wait in a lesser than desirable neighborhood until 2:30 am to get the car to my place residence. This was one of the scariest and deadliest incidents I have ever had in a motor vehicle. I am deathly afraid this will reoccur on a highway with fatal consequences.

Since purchasing the vehicle the infotainment system has and always been substandard. Which is very frustration when your purchasing a new truck. There seem to be many glitches to the system and never reacted the same way twice when I had to reprogram it every time I got into the vehicle. It became an unreliable way to communicate and very unsafe. I felt very insecure using the system knowing that I would have to readjust or touch the infotainment to make it work had to pull over on the side of the road a lot. I believe that this product is completely faulty and could have been a fatal flaw for Many f150 drivers.

I was stopped at a traffic light and all of a sudden my rear window exploded. It sent glass forward richoceting of the front windshield into my eyes. It was like a gun shot was fired into my truck. This caused me to have post traumatic stress. This and the fact that no one believed me that the rear window spontaneously exploded. Since my care was paid for, the window was paid out of pocket adding insult to injury

Subject: Urgent Resolution Required for Defective 2018 Ford F150 Truck Dear [Dealership Manager/General Manager], I am writing to express my profound disappointment and frustration with the 2018 Ford F150 truck I purchased from your dealership five months ago. Despite being certified pre-owned by Ford, the vehicle has been plagued by significant mechanical issues, primarily excessive oil consumption, leading to engine and transmission failure. This situation is deeply troubling, as it not only poses a major safety concern but also represents a significant financial burden and inconvenience. Despite repeated attempts to address these issues through servicing at Ford Sawgrass, the truck has been deemed unserviceable, necessitating a new engine and transmission. My efforts to seek resolution from Ford Motor Company have been met with indifference, as they have cited a third-party warranty that allegedly supersedes their responsibility. Similarly, Grieco Ford of Delray Beach has been unresponsive to my complaints, citing the "as is" nature of the sale. I am requesting immediate action from Ford Motor Company to rectify this situation, including providing a new engine and transmission or compensating Sawgrass Ford for the necessary repairs. This defect in the 5.0 Coyote engine constitutes consumer fraud, and I expect Ford to take full ownership and accountability for it. I trust that both Ford Motor Company and the NHTSA will uphold their integrity and address this matter promptly

Ford has a known motor defect with 2018-2020 F150 pickups with coyote engine. In my case at 57k miles dealer determined I need a new engine due to this oil consumption issue caused by the costing they sprayed on the motor cylinders. Searching the internet thousands of this model have same issue and ford refuses to recall it. In fact I am having issues even getting Ford to cover it under warranty. While I jave not experienced a safety issue yet, if the motor seizes while on the highway it is highly likely to cause a safety risk. Fords fix as indicated by attachment is to extend the dipstick so you put additional oil(takes 10 qts by default so requiring more) to hide the issue from consumers. Their goal for sure is to hide the issue from consumers until out if warranty.

Hello, The suspension on this truck is coil (spring) over the shock. The spring just sheared sitting in my driveway under no load what-so-ever. This could have easily caused an accident and somebody could have been killed. I googled this and did find another incident of this exact thing happening to the same year/model truck. The vehicle is at the dealer service department now. There were no warning at all before this happened and this truck has been "babied" for its whole life. I do have photos....but my phone will not send them right now for some reason. Thanks!

While approaching a highway exit ramp I felt a brief loss of power. At the light at the end of the exit ramp the truck would not move. Engine RPMs increased but the truck only rolled forward on a slight decline. After a brief period, the transmission engaged with a loud bang. No check engine light was illuminated at this time. The truck was brought to a transmission shop where they found no faults or computer codes. A service (fluid and filter) was completed. It was notice over the next few weeks that the truck would drop in and out of gear at highway speeds. The check engine light came on over this time period. The truck was brought to a Ford dealer and diagnosed with a CDF Clutch Cylinder problem per TSB 24-2101. As the truck is out of warranty with approx 87,000 miles, I was told I would be responsible for this repair. Why is Ford allowed to ignore what is a potential safety issue with this transmission? If this was known it should have been replaced in the warranty period, or a recall issued. In this specific case there was no incident with another vehicle or vehicles.

The smoke and smell began under the back seat passenger floorboards, and within 45 seconds, was burning. I have pictures, video, witnesses, and police reports for corroboration. There was no accident, no impact, no nothing. It simply lit itself on fire.

On a weekly basis while operating my truck, I've encountered an issue where the transmission disengages unexpectedly, leading to erratic shifting into various gears. These incidents frequently occur on busy roads, posing a potential hazard as the transmission shifts from 10th gear down to 1st gear. This matter has not yet been formally inspected by the manufacturer, law enforcement, or insurance agencies. Notably, no warning lights or error indicators are displayed. Ford is aware of the issues pertaining to their 10R80 transmission.

I have had multiple issues concerning the transmission on my 2018 F-150. The issue that occurs most is after starting the truck and shifting into forward, the vehicle jumps from 1st, to 4th, and quickly back to 2nd gear. When it shifts back to 2nd gear the truck feels like it is being hit hard from behind. When it finally engages, the transmission skips 3rd gear every time. At times the transmission disengages when attempting to get into traffic from a side street. When the transmission does engage, the vehicle shutters hard, goes into too high of a gear, and has trouble getting to speed. I need to let off the gas to allow the transmission to downshift. Once again when it downshifts, it feels as if I am being hit hard from behind. When in city traffic, the transmission occasionally feels like it shifts into neutral when the vehicle is at low speeds. The engine races to high RPMs, the transmission engages, and the truck feels like it was hit by another car. I have also experienced shifting issues when attempting to safely pass other vehicles. The transmission had trouble shifting and I was left in the passing lane with a transmission that won't engage. Recently (04/23/2024) the transmission shifted from 1st, to 7th, to 2nd, to 7th, and to 4th. The wrench icon illuminated on my dashboard. I was less than a quarter mile from home. The transmission would not shift out of 1st after this. My F-150 has less than 60,000 miles on the odometer.

I purchased this vehicle from my grandfather. He bought the truck new and had it evaluated at approximately 15,000 miles due to transmission jolting. Ford topped off fluids and the problem improved. Around 60,000 miles or so, I started noticing intermittent misshifts, jolting, jerking, slipping and engine revving. I put a lot of highway miles on my vehicle. At about 66,000 miles I was attempting to cross an intersection and the truck stuttered, hesitated and bucked when moving into the lane. I narrowly escaped getting into a major accident with oncoming vehicles. I also had issues where the truck would "rev-up" when applying the brakes. Apparently this is a known issue with the 10 speed transmission with several class action lawsuits filed against Ford for these very reasons. I contacted Ford on several occasions and was told that since the vehicle was not in warranty (and despite the previous recorded problem) there was nothing they could or would do for me. Patrick Turner at Mullinax Ford suggested I open a case, which I did. He told me Ford would be helpful, they were not. The agent said she just collected information. Patrick did tell me there were three service advisories on the vehicle which can sometimes fix the problem, but again the truck was not in warranty. Sorry, not sorry attitude. A transmission does not fail at 66,000 miles, unless there is a manufacturing issue. Very disappointing as this vehicle is a threat to drivers, passengers and other cars on the roadway

The engine makes a popping sound, acceleration and deceleration rattles and response delay. Dealer repair was a replacement of the intake manifold/runner controls. Service advisor advised the dowels that hold the interior parts and runners come lose due to improper factory installation or defect. The popping is raw gas causing the popping. When the runners fall out the vehicle will lose power. Obvious safety defect and concern to the public. The vehicle has 30K miles, no warning light or computer error shown at the dealer, obvious concern with this. Concern with transmission delay, clunking and jerking, along with the poor running engine. The dealer said this was normal and again no warning light comes on or computer code. All repairs and concerns have been addressed with the dealer. Ford is res041920ponsible for a poorly built truck and lack of warning systems in place.

The vehicle hesitates for several seconds and then very forcefully hard shifts going from 7th to 8th gear every time. If I am stuck in a steady flow of traffic where it is constantly shifting up and down for lights or people stopping to turn, the vehicle will sometimes lurch and hesitate multiple times in a row like it's playing tug of war. I've taken it to to the dealer for all my regular oil changes and Ford keeps telling me it's normal because of the "adaptive driving". It has done this since I purchased the vehicle in 2019 and progressively gotten more aggressive as time goes. I currently have just over 75k miles currently. I can get online and search 2018 ford 10 speed transmission hard shift issues and people are complaining left and right. Many have said it has led to transmission failure prematurely, as early as 65k miles. Ford has no fix for the issue but all the Ford service departments know about it. We have seen service bulletins released regarding the issue but no permanent solution to actually fix the issue. And yet, Ford still refuses to issue a recall for this specific transmission issue. We already have a 2018 Ford focus with a blown motor at 65k miles sitting in our driveway due to Fords neglect and I doubt it will be long before we have a broken truck too if this is allowed to go unaddressed. I am terrified that I will be driving to or from work and the transmission will fail catastrophically and leave me stranded on a busy highway with no shoulders. I hope

Whiplash my head. Now the dealership is stating that another part failed the transmission which I think they don't want to replace there mess.

Left valve cover cracked causing an oil leak. Oil runs down to exhaust manifold and could cause a fire. On Ford's Blue Oval forum we found multiple occasions with images of the identical situation.

The warning light came on the truck which was the wrench symbol on Saturday March 30. Over the past couple weeks the transmission has been doing harsh shifting, jerking, loss of power or just hesitantion its as though the truck doesn't know what gear it needs to be in while driving it will go 10th gear to first gear without any warning. We took the truck to our local ford dealership on April 5th to have the transmission filter changed and the transmission flushed the service technician then drove it afterwards and left a detailed description of what the truck was doing. After paying for the repair the service representative told me basically the transmission needed to be replaced. This is a very well know issue with the 10r80 transmission.

The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
